January 22, 201213 yr He's going to love how you spelt Cardle ;) I'm losing my english language
January 22, 201213 yr i'm sorry mrs Regina Cardell. ;) And also today i have played club lights more than elephant :o its been top since it came out! EDIT TO MAKE MORE PERFECT FOR MRS CARDELL I'm a male, so its Mr. It is spelt CARDLE. I'm married to Jason Bateman.
January 22, 201213 yr Did I say she created music? Grow the hell up, seriously. Okay, I'm not done here. :drama: Rihanna is a trend setter, you can look at it anyway you want to. 'Only Girl' and 'What's My Name' did result in a lot of other female artists going down the same route in 2011 and now after 'We Found Love', other female pop artists are going down the same route as she did YET AGAIN in 2012. It's as if other female pop artists and their labels watch to see what Rihanna smashes with and then they release something similar to Rihanna's material in hope of the same success. Are you all saying it's just a coincidence?! Get real. It's plain obvious!

I really doubt Nicole Scherzinger, Alexandra Burke or J-Lo sit and think 'hmm Rihanna had a dance-pop lead single and then an R&B second single, I'm going to copy her'. It isn't really coincidence either, but it certainly isn't outright totally following whatever Rihanna does just to get a hit.
January 22, 201213 yr Am I right in saying English is not your first language? no its not, here is my life story..... i lived in sweden for 4 years and when i was 4 i moved to england as my grandma was very ill. (she lived in england btw) and i lived there untill i was 8. then i moved back sweden and have live here since then. BUT i am moving back to england To spend my 2 pound on itunes to live with my grandma again. So my english will be forever better

'Only Girl' is a nowhere near similar to 'Telephone' or 'California Gurls'. :/ Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Rihanna are all very much different to one another and have been the biggest female pop artists over the last few years for that very reason. Other female artists who are nowhere near as influenctial and successful as the above-mentioned merely release similar material in hope of their own success. I'm not directly referring to the artists either, but moreso their success-hungry record labels.
January 22, 201213 yr Okay let's cut this bullshit. Rihanna and her music obviously influence some artists just like other artists influence Rihanna. 'Elephant' sounds similar to 'We Found Love' in regards to the excessive dance music but I doubt it was a conscious decision by Alex and her label. Having said that, 'Elephant' was revealed as a potential lead single last August but was delayed because Alex and the producers wanted to "perfect" it apparently and, from what Alex has said, it seems like the song 'Elephant' was created before Erick Morillo got on board. Maybe it was inspired by 'We Found Love'? But the fact that Alex has been working with Erick Morillo shows that she's not really a blatant trend-follower. I'm glad she's jumped off the RedOne bandwagon btw. It's nice to know she has realised that his only great material is with GaGa.
January 22, 201213 yr I think it's silly to say Rihanna hasn't set any trends. The only one I can think of is the "dance first single, RnB second single" thing, but that trend is there and I thought it was universally recognised. Honestly, it's too common to be a coincidence. Right There, I'm Into You and Lay It On Me all followed dance singles in a very short period of time after Rihanna did exactly that with Only Girl and What's My Name. It would have to be an extremely bizarre coincidence for the artists behind the three singles I listed as examples not to have tried to copy RiRi's formula. However, that's pretty much where the Rihanna trendsetting ends. Collide premiered absolutely ages before We Found Love IIRC and it's not even similar. There's verses (singular?), a bridge and a chorus all of which heavily feature Leona's vocals. Alex can be accused of ripping off RiRi for sure, but the Leona comparison is bizarre and Alexis shouldn't be brought into this at all as she hasn't even done anything since We Found Love was released. I can't comment on Jessie as I haven't heard Laserlight but I can't imagine that was made with the express intention of ripping off WFL as the Who You Are re-release came out not all that long after WFL and I don't think they could have thought it up, recorded it and perfected it in such a small length of time. Besides, Jessie's too busy ripping off Katy Perry these days to even think about ripping off Rihanna! Also the (ft. producer) thing started long before We Found Love. Kelly Rowland featured Guetta on Commander in 2010 as did Flo Rida.

Kelly Rowland featured Guetta on Commander in 2010 as did Flo Rida. I see your point with regard to 'Collide' maybe that was just coincidental then after all. I never brought Alexis Jordan in anywhere. I may sound looney here - but 'Do It Like a Dude' was written by Jessie J for Rihanna and it ended up being sung by Jessie J - was it a Rihanna reject? In all honesty with regard to 'Laserlight' it being released now and being added to her desperate re-release is a bit too suspicious. It sounds more like a leftover from 'Nothing But the Beat' than 'returning the favour', it's like Jessie J's label thought they could milk more success out of her era by copying Katy Perry ala 'Domino' and then they realized last minute that 'Laserlight' could actually be a hit after seeing how well 'We Found Love' did for Rihanna. I'd be disappointed if Alexandra loses her artist identity and goes down the same route as Jessie J just to bag a few hits. With regard to the DJ feat, yes 'Commander' and 'Club Can't Handle Me' do have them. But the songs are sung/rapped over the production right throughout apart from the intros and outros. Whereas with WFL, 'Collide' and now 'Elephant' and 'Laserlight' it is much more excessive dance and the songs are not just entirely vocals but a vocal-dance beat mix.
January 22, 201213 yr Well the official line with Do It Like A Dude is that the label told Jessie to keep it for herself but I'd imagine Rih just rejected it. I do still disagree with you lumping in Collide with WFL and Elephant but I guess I can see your logic with Jessie and Laserlight even if I would still question if she ripped off Rihanna so soon after We Found Love. Perhaps I should actually listen to Laserlight...
January 22, 201213 yr I never brought Alexis Jordan in anywhere. Good. She copies nobody. She just sings over their instrumentals and encourages others to do the same. See, she's a trendsetter! :magic: Collide being a weak re-hash of Happiness, that is. But I'm actually inclined to agree with you on the fact that Rihanna is in many ways a trendsetter, songs like Only Girl and What's My Name WERE popular in 2011, I don't think they were deliberate copies though. This situation however, I see few similarities but if there are any, Elephant is the Collide to We Found Love's Happiness, and its much less noticeable. I didn't think of Elephant being similar until it was pointed out. If more songs other than Elephant turn up in the next few months that have a dance-heavy beat throughout the song with female pop vocals, then maybe We Found Love is a trendsetter. I think it's too early to call, and too early to have this argument.
January 22, 201213 yr Eh. Just listened to Laserlight and it strikes me as more of a Titanium rip-off than a We Found Love copy. The Guetta connection especially makes the former seem more likely. But God it is a terrible song. Stick to the Katy rip-offs and RiRi rejects darling.

Why do my favourite songs always get ripped off by terribly average ones. First Happiness with Collide, then We Found Love with Elephant, now Titanium with Laserlight. At this rate, I'll be seeing The One That Got Away influencing Nicki Minaj. Well, I never expected a Titanium rip-off from Jessie J. ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN NOW!
January 22, 201213 yr I'm glad she's jumped off the RedOne bandwagon btw. It's nice to know she has realised that his only great material is with GaGa. I'd agree he's overrated but he also did two of Alex's best songs.
January 22, 201213 yr ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN NOW! I hear Britney's doing her own spin on Florence & The Machine for her next album!
