Where they'll chart is a foregone conclusion, but how many will they sell?

I hope a LOT but I guess over 100K and I'll be over the moon...

Said 80-100k myself which would be great. This is the first big album of the run in to xmas!! Pity bands like this dont get much xmas tv promo like the XF stars do!

But they're more of a fanbase act, than an Xmas gift one.

I know but my point was aimed at XF promoting theyre own and same style acts than letting alternative bands get some promo!
Arctic Monkeys aren't exactly a fanbase band though...

I can't agree there - it's just that they have a rather larger fanbase than similar acts.

I've always thought of fanbase acts as acts who have no one giving a shit about them apart from their fanbase. For the Arctic Monkeys that is clearly not the case.

YAY

A better example from the last few weeks of a fan base act would be Franz Ferdinand because they got no radio promo and still got top 10 because they have had previous popularity and so have a fan base!

If I'm right didn't Suck It And See sell over 90k...or was that Humbug??!!

I think it will sell over 100k as they have the hype to do it and they're in the Live Lounge on Friday so ill say 105k as my prediction!!

I'm surprised so many people don't think this will pass 100k, I'm fairly confident it will at least and I've actually predicted >120k. I'm the only one though so I'll probably be wrong.

I'd say they are a pretty good example of a fanbase band

There seems to be a lot more hype and excitement around this album then the last 2.

It's not like they've had a song in the top 40 for 3 months and another one for 1 month or anything.

They are undoubtedly a band with a large fanbase but 'fanbase band' implies a band with a fanbase but nothing else. The sorts that have decent first week album sales but plummet out of the chart quickly and generally don't make the singles chart at all. Avenged Sevenfold are a good example. Arctic Monkeys aren't.

The slow past 2 months has made people more sceptical id say!

I'm really not sure what to think here. I'd like to say over 100k but I wouldn't be too surprised if it just fell short. Suck It and See managed 82k but that was in the summer with a not so successful lead single (in comparison to the two hits from this era, that is) so I think it would be daft to think AM will sell less than that. I can see this selling anywhere between 95k-120k so I'll just go for the option that covers the majority of that.

In defence of people saying Arctic Monkeys are a "fan-based band", I think it's just a case of them having the "definition" muddled up rather than them claiming they think Arctic Monkeys don't reach out to people outside of their fan-bases, i.e. Avenged Sevenfold, like mentioned.

Bowie fell just short and that was probably more hyped within the crowd that tends to buy albums, but the Arctics' singles success should help them pass 100k. I know the two charts correspond very little these days but it's not necessarily that the singles have sold a lot but that they've been so well received - I can imagine a lot of people doing the same as I have and buying AM despite not bothering with Suck It and See.
