October 2, 201311 yr How on earth is Applause down when it went up both on airplay and digital sales?
October 2, 201311 yr Incredible. It doesn't sound like an international #1 at all, it feels like a way too subtle song to achieve such success, particularly in the US! Pretty amazing for a teenager from New Zealand. Woo for a Norwegian top ten hit too, alongside a Swedish one :D That's a mammoth opening sale for Drake's album too!
October 2, 201311 yr To me it's the most unlikely #01 in the US for years. To be a 16 year old New Zealand girl, with no releases behind you, releasing a very subtle and unusual track...blasting the likes of Britney, Katy and Miley out the way. It's good to see that America has opened up to new sounds and artists
October 2, 201311 yr Furthermore if her label plays things right she should have one of the best selling Q4 releases and probably one of the best selling records of the year. She's got such mass appeal...
October 2, 201311 yr I still can't get my head around the fact that Lorde is literally my age (plus a couple of weeks). The USA have got 'teenage music' right getting 'Royals' to #1 while Bieber and 1D have thus far failed to get there. I'm aware that sentence was extremely snobbish.
October 2, 201311 yr AMAZING #1!!! :D I agree, it seems like such a weird song to get to #1. Doesn't seem like the sort of thing that'd have broad appeal, but I looked and even a lot of adult contemporary stations are playing it. The US has had brilliant #1s in 2013 imo. Apparently Drake has 12 songs on the chart this week too!
October 2, 201311 yr Author Last week, Miley and Katy were separated by just 2% in chart points. This week, I reckon the % difference was even less between Lorde and Katy. I'm in shock she managed it this week :o .

October 2, 201311 yr Author Which is your favourite out of the three songs? I have no favourite (haven't even heard 'Wrecking Ball' in full). From a purely chart perspective, I'm surprised she was able to get to #1 so soon. I thought it would be a couple of weeks when her airplay was closer to Katy.
October 2, 201311 yr ^ I was expecting Katy to return to #1 this week too. I think Royals is going to have a few more weeks now. I can't see any immediate competition, unless The Fox explodes more.
