Unlucky # 11. Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know

Pop ballad "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know" was written and produced by Robert Lange, while additional lyrics were written by his then-wife Shania Twain and Keith Scott. Lyrically, "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know" alludes to how Spears wants to hear her boyfriend say he needs her all the way and that he loves her. Spears considered it a "pure and delicate" song. "It's just one of those songs that pull you in. That's why I like it, and I like singing it as well," she continued. "I think they wrote it 'specially for me, because the lyrics of the song, if you really listen... they're more of what I can relate to, 'cause they're kind of young lyrics, I think. I don't think Shania would probably sing some of the words that I'm saying."

The music video for "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know" was directed by the American photographer Herb Ritts. The video begins with Spears and her boyfriend in a hammock. Cuts of her cuddling with her love interest beside a fire are also included. We also see her and her boyfriend on the seashore doing a love scene. Inside a tiki hut, Spears exclaims the words she wants her boyfriend to know. In the second half of the video, she is seen on a tree where her boyfriend reaches for her. There are also scenes where she is running on the beach and her boyfriend is chasing after her. Spears wears only a bikini top and a pair of cutoff shorts during the whole video. The music video was considered by Spears as "the funnest video I've ever done."

"Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know" was not commercially available in United States, but was successful in Europe. The song was also able to reach the top ten in Austria and Switzerland, while attaining top twenty positions in Belgium (Flanders), Finland, Ireland, Norway, Denmark and Sweden. In the United Kingdom, it debuted and peaked at number 12.

# 1. Lucky

The teen pop and dance-pop song tells a story about a famous pop star named Lucky, who, despite seemingly having it all – fame, wealth, beauty – is truly lonely and unhappy on the inside. It received positive reviews from music critics, who considered its melody and rhythm as sweet and catchy, and noted the lyrics to be about Spears herself.

The video begins with Spears telling a story about very famous Hollywood actress named Lucky. Lucky is seen wearing a pink nightgown behind the curtains, standing on her billboard with fluffy white cotton balls attached to the edges, inside her mansion and shots of her out on the balcony. As beautiful and rich as she is, on set she sits on the star-shape in the sky, as she is acting, she is looking quite distressed. After the first chorus, she goes to the hotel mansion to the flowers, then she leaves and sits down and gets a mirror. Next, Lucky opens the door to reveal a handsome man, who then takes her in his arms, as the director yells "Cut! We've got it". Lucky then walks off-set into the studio as grandpa's room, replying to the director: "Finally! We've done it fifty-million times!" She then goes to have her hair and makeup done; with Spears standing unnoticed and very worried looking by her side. Lucky is then seen in a shiny gray evening gown at the Academy Awards accepting her award for Best Actress. Lucky looks happy as she accepts it and smiles at her fans, Best actress, and the winner is Lucky! but is soon revealed that this is not true happiness. She makes her way away from her screaming fans and back into her limo, where she unexpectedly finds an ornate hand mirror that was used on the film set. She looks back to the crowd to see who has left it and sees Spears leaning forward in the crowd. The limo drives away, leaving Spears behind on the red carpet. The video ends with Lucky crying herself to sleep, her make-up already stained on her face. The curtains close, ending the video.

Country singer Taylor Swift performed the song on her Speak Now World Tour on September 20, 2011 located in Louisiana, as a tribute to Spears. Wearing her signature lilac dress, Swift started to play the first chords of "Lucky" on her guitar.

In United States "Lucky" peaked at number 23 on Billboard Hot 100 and number nine on the Top 40 Mainstream chart. "Lucky" also achieved commercial success worldwide, reaching number one in Austria, Sweden and Switzerland. "Lucky" debuted at number 5 in the Official Charts Company from the United Kingdom, falling to number six in the following week. In Australia, the song peaked at number 3 and was later certified Platinum by ARIA, for shipments of more than 70,000 units of the single. In Germany, the song reached number one on the Media Control Charts, being certified Gold for shipping over 250,000 units of the single.

"Lucky" won and it's not only my favourite Britney's song, but also my # 1 single from 2000 year.

Well, Lucky is indeed quite legendary so it's a good No.1.

Congrats Alex, terrific countdown.

'Lucky' is so cute and adorable. I remember listening to that song a lot when I got given the 'Oops' album

LUCKY IS SO UNDERRATED IT IS RIDICULOUS.

It's in my top five overall Britney songs. It's just timeless for me, the nostalgia it brings is just <3.

Lucky just reminds me of Stronger which is much better.

It was only my top 10, so such good songs as "Baby One More Time", "Sometimes" and "Circus" is not here. :(
I'm ok with Lucky, not my fave from her, but at least it's not Baby One More Time :D
