Not that it hasn't been great it's just that he started off so well in the 1990s that he ran out of places to go. The Rain isn't anywhere nearly his first production job - he started in the early 1990s - but it's is so cool and laid back. Love it. 2 Weeks 30/08/1997 1 - The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly]) - Missy Elliott 2 - Risingson - Massive Attack 3 - Tubthumping - Chumbawamba 06/09/1997 1 - The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly]) - Missy Elliott 2 - Risingson - Massive Attack 3 - All I Wanna Do - Dannii Minogue Edited April 27, 201411 yr by AnthonyT
April 27, 201411 yr I have been reading this through for whole morning, fantastic stuff! Lots of dance singles that I didn't know about because I was too young at that time and then got into eurodance and brit pop. 1995 and 1996 were brilliant years for pop music. Love the unexpected appearance by 'Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore'! The song is much better in French, the English version is on 'Falling into You'.
April 27, 201411 yr Author Thanks SKOB. Although, I'm fairly sure the English version is If That's What It Takes. 58b0g2Ukd_Y Edited April 27, 201411 yr by AnthonyT
April 27, 201411 yr Yea, I meant it's on the Falling into You album. French version being far superior reminds me of Quand J'ai Peur de Tout vs. Too Lost In You although in that case there are two quite different performers, Patricia Kaas and Sugababes. Edited April 27, 201411 yr by SKOB
April 28, 201411 yr Author Perhaps but this song has many similarities in structure and lyric to a few Kate Bush songs. Vocally there's no similarity.

I can pin point the exact moment where I was gripped by it - 1:27 in the video posted above, when the warm bass kicks in and the second verse begins. It brought tears to my eyes. I always preferred it to Bittersweet Symphony. I believe Noel Gallagher did the backing vocals. Gorgeous. Maralin Manson's Tourniquet had to settle for number 2 for all of 4 weeks as a result. April 28, 201411 yr Great song I'm not a fan of Bittersweet Symphony at all, the Drugs Don't Work and Sonnet, however, are brilliant. And Tourniquet, adore it, their best song. Wonder if any single from Mechanical Animals will appear.. Edited April 28, 201411 yr by SKOB

Le Pastie comes from a time when they didn't release singles but EPs. It's quite retro and has a lovely propelling 60s pop nature to it. Useless has such gorgeous music building to that moment of tranquillity at 4:00. Dat baseline. My favourite DM album too. But they came back with one of the highlights of The Fat of The Land as a single. It was predicted that this would be a much bigger hit - some expected a third number 1 - Musicweek had them in the running to replace Barbie Girl at the top but it wasn't to happen. Nov 1997 was a tough time to release a single and they had to settle for number 8. It's still a startling record. The layers are brilliant. April 29, 201411 yr Useless! That's one of my favourite DM singles also, really adore it and the standout from Ultra. Do you approve of the Kruder & Dorfmeister remix? 4djrhgr7bgQ (not as good as the original mind)
April 29, 201411 yr Love "Smack My Bitch Up", the inspiration for the infamous Enya vs Prodigy mash-up "Smack My Bitch Up Orinoco Flow" ! Sad to see that Gene didn't even make your Top 3. "Speak To Me Someone" is easily one of my favourite songs of 1997.
April 29, 201411 yr Author cJNOOBOyn20 20/12/1997 Bjork - Bachelorette 4 Weeks Bjork's third album Homogenic was a more serious affair than her two previous albums. There's no playfulness at all. It peaks for me on Bachelorette which for some reason I didn't quite click with at the time but when I purchased the album in 2001 I fell for in a big way. The dramatic strings got me as well as the glorious melody, right down to the accordion at the end. Such a perfect song and one of her very best. "Speak To Me Someone" is easily one of my favourite songs of 1997. I posted that mash-up on Facebook today. It works unexpectedly well. I couldn't quite recall Speak to Me Someone so I went to Youtube. I don't really remember it at all. They had stronger singles, I think. Edited April 29, 201411 yr by AnthonyT
