Commentary

All change this week, as Gnarls Barkley’s ‘Smiley Faces’ drops from 1 to 5. Claiming the top spot this week is Supermode’s storming summer dance choon ‘Tell Me Why’, which is an excellent mash up of the Bronski Beat hits ‘Smalltown Boy’ and ‘Why’. Up at two is the brilliant ‘Chasing Cars’ from Snow Patrol. This track really is Snow Patrol at their emotive best, and harks back to ‘Run’ and ‘Chocolate’ from their million selling album, ‘Last Straw’. James Morrison sneaks in three with a new entry for the heartfelt track ‘You Give Me Something’. This Blunt-a-like has a new album out on Monday, and I will certainly be getting it!

The last new entry in the top ten this week is from Kasabian. With their new track ‘Empire’. Released to radio, download and to buy last Monday, this track should see them returning to the top ten in the official chart later today. It is a storming return by the lads and shows a lot of promise. Next up at twelve is a new entry for Paolo Nutini. This Italian-Scot is also in the mould of James Blunt, and ‘Last Request’ is a gentle well written tune with a good summer vibe. The Arctics return with ‘Leave Before The Lights Come On’ at fifteen this week. It is good to hear some fresh material from them, as this track is nor included on their million selling album with a long name which I can’t be bothered to type! back to the song, it is typical witty Arctics stuff, sharply observed and with the usual jangly guitars. A number 1 in the making, I think. Finally, there is a new entry at 22 for the Moose T vs. The Dandy Warhols. We also say goodbye to Gnarls Barkely’s ‘Crazy’ which spent an incredible 18 weeks on my chart! :o

The Scissor Sisters don’t feel like dancin’ – but I do! Their fabulous new singles has shot straight to the top of my chart this week, following the premier of the video on Channel Four this week. This should be a huge hit when this is released in September, and fingers crossed for their first number 1 single! Another new entry at two this week, for Guetta vs. The Egg, a mish mash of Walking Away and Love Don’t Let Me Go. This tune has of course been brought to the attention of the public due to the high profile car ad, and should secure it a Top ten placing when released in a couple of weeks.

The Arctic Monkeys rise into the Top ten this week, ahead of the release of this brand new single, and The Feeling have a new entry at fifteen with Never Be Lonely, the third single to be taken from their mega-selling album, ‘Twelve Stops and Home’. Finally this week, Orson rise to eleven with 'Hapiness', Justin Timberlake rises to thirteen with ‘Sexy Back, and Moose T vs. The Dandy Warhols rise to 19 with ‘Horny as a Dandy’.

Commentary

No change at Number 1 this week, as the Scissor Sisters refuse to budge with ‘I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’, which is doing rather well on I-Tunes this week. None of this will, of course, count towards either their chart position or sales once released, but that’s yet another idiotic rule from the deluded OCC. Anyway, moving on, the beautiful ‘Chasing Cars’ from Snow Patrol regains its peak of 2, and is due to shoot into the Top 10 this week. Woo Hoo!! A surprise at 3 this week, after an 8 week hiatus, Cascada re-enters this week, and at its highest position by miles in my chart. This is yet another huge dance tune this year, and echoes the success of Euro-dance from the late 90/early 00s. I for one aren’t complaining, even if some are. Finally in the top 10, there are 3 climbers from the Arctic Monkeys at 8 (they must surely be on course for their third Number 1 next week??), Orson at 9 with ‘Happiness’ and The Feeling at 10 with the jangly tuned ‘Never Be Lonely’.

Three other new entries this week from Robbie Williams, Sandi Thom and Lily Allen. ‘Rudebox’ received its video premier this week, and marks a huge change of direction for Robbie Williams. I’m not entirely convinced I like this track at the moment, but it has grown on me enough for now to enter at 15. Watch this space to see how I feel about it in the coming weeks! Sandi Thom returns with ‘What If I’m Right at 21, which to me has echoes of Jem, and a certain improvement on the incredibly annoying ‘Punkrocker’. Lily Allen returns to my chart with ‘Fog On The Tyne’ (or do I mean ‘LDN’?), again an improvement, in my opinion on the dreadful ‘Smile’.

Commentary

A static Top 3 this week sees the Scissor Sisters stay at Number 1, Snow Patrol remaining at Number 2 and Cascada sticking at Number 3. This is the first time my chart has had a static Top 3, so congrats to those involved! All this staying has been interrupted by a new entry from Keane at Number 4 with the follow up to ‘Is It Any Wonder’, ‘Crystal Ball’. This is typical Keane stuff, sweeping pianos, sublime lyrics and gorgeous vocals. I’m not convinced it will emulate its predecessor on the chart, but we will see when it’s fully released tomorrow. The Feeling climb 4 places to Number 6 with the rather excellent ‘Never Be Lonely’, the latest release from their excellent album, ‘Twelve Stops and Home’. A final new entry in the Top 10 this week goes to Muse, with the brilliant ‘Starlight’, which, for me, is the highlight of their album, ‘Black Holes and Revelations.

There is very little going on in the bottom part of my chart this week, Matt Willis climbs again to Number 13, Robbie climbs by 1 to Number 14, with ‘Rudebox’, and Sandi Thom and Lily Savage (oops, Allen) climb 2 places each to 19 and 20. That all this week, folks!

Commentary

Well, a surprise at the top this week, as Snow Patrols amazing ‘Chasing Cars’ rises to Number 1 after 3 weeks at Number 2. Chasing Cars has grown on me considerably this week, from its use at the end of Big Brother, to the indications that it will rise again in the Official chart this week. It truly is an amazing special song. This means that the Scissor Sisters drop to Number 2, but im sure they will be on the rise again soon! Cascada sticks at 3 for the third successive and the much maligned ‘Crystal Ball’ by Keane has stayed at 4.

The Feeling rise to Number 5 this week with ‘Never Be Lonely’, the third single from their excellent album ‘Twelve Stops and Home’ and I have a ‘feeling’ (groan) that this will be on the rise next week! Muse rise to Number 8 with the brilliant ‘Starlight’, probably my favourite track from their Number 1 album ‘Black Holes and Revelations’. I hope this follows ‘Supermassive Black Hole’ into the Top 10 on its release next month. September have a new entry at 9 with ‘Satellites’, a dance tune that has been knocking around Europe since early 2005, and is finally set for a UK release in mid-September. This dance tune is along the same lines as Cascada and Infernal, and time will tell if ‘Satellites’ is as successful. Finally in the Top 10, Matt Willis rises to Number 10 with the excellent ‘Hey Kid’, the follow up to ‘Up All Night’.

Pink’s new stormer, ‘U + Ur Hand’ about a man and his, ahem, hand, is a new entry at Number 17 this week, and should be her third Top 10 hit this year. Finally this week, Evanescence return from a long break with their new tune ‘Call Me When You’re Sober’, a new entry at Number 23.

Commentary

Loads of movement this week, starting with a reversal of fortunes for last weeks Top 2, as The Scissor Sisters return to Number 1 and Snow Patrol drop to Number 3. The Feeling rise eloquently to Number 2 with ‘Never Be Lonely’, following their performance with Welshie Charlotte Church on Friday, this is the third hit from their feel good album, Twelve Stops and Home. The Fratellis crash in at Number 4 with the brilliant ‘Chelsea Dagger’, surely a Top 5 hit on the official chart later today, and Muse rise to 5 with the highlight of their album, with ‘Starlight’. Robbie Williams rises to Number 7 with ‘Rudebox’, I like the chorus of this track, but im still not sure about the ‘Roland Rat rapping’. Meh, at least Lovelights, the follow up, is fantastic!!

Outside of the Top 10, there are new entries this week for Nelly Furtado and Timbaland at Number 13 with ‘Promiscuous’, the follow up to ‘Maneater’, and at Number 17 for Razorlight with the rather good ‘America’. Thats all this week, enjoy!

Commentary

A static top 3 this week, there really is no beating the Scissor Sisters, Snow Patrol and The Feeling! The tune coming closest to breaking into the Top 3 is Muse’s wonderful ‘Starlight’, which rises two places this week. European Summer dance smash ‘Satellites’ rises to Number 5 this week, this track is alledegly released on Monday, but I have a sneaky suspicion that it won’t do very well on the official chart. Finally in the Top 10, Timbaland gives a helping hand to both Nelly Furtado as she rises to Number 9 with ‘Promiscuous’ and to Justin Timberlake as he bring his ‘Sexyback’ to Number 10.

There are three new entries in the Top 20 this week, the first from Ok Go, with the excellent ‘Here It Goes Again’. If you haven’t seen the video to this track yet, you are in for a treat, as there is some rather smart dancing on treadmills waiting for you!! The Zutons return at Number 18 with ‘Oh Stacey’ and the Killers enter at Number 19 with comeback tune ‘When You Were Young’. Finally this week, Evanescence rise to Number 16 with ‘Call Me When You’re Sober’. If you are fan of this wonderful band, please go and visit the Features Request Forum and go and vote Yes for an Evanescence forum. It will make Graham happy, honest!!

Commentary

Yet again, an unchanging Top 3 this weeks sees the Scissor Sisters, Snow Patrol and The Feeling staying exactly where they were last week. The Scissors have now spent a total of 6 weeks at the top of my chart, a record for the year so far. Their new album, ‘Tah Dah’ is released on Monday, and this should give their already high profile another boost. Now you have read all this, go and visit their forum and celebrate! September rise to Number 4 with ‘Satellites’ which is now apparently released this Monday, and I wonder if this tune will ever be released here now. Nelly Furtado rises to 5 with ‘Promiscuous’, another act to benefit from Charlotte Church’s new show, where Nelly was a guest last Friday. Still with me? If so, there are another 4 movers in the Top 10 this week!

Kasabian rise to a new peak of Number 7, with the ever rumbling ‘Empire’, Evanescence leap to 8 with ‘Call Me When You Are Sober’, Embrace follow up ‘Natures law’ with new single ‘Target’ at 9 and The Killers continue their rise at Number 10 with ‘When You Were Young’. Phew!

Finally this week, there are two new entries from The Automatic at Number 16, following up the mega selling ‘Monster’ with the re-released ‘Recover’. I doubt this will have the same success with the hill mounting ‘Monster’, but we shall see. Lupe Fiasco has sampled ‘Daydream In Blue’ (as have I Monster and The Beta Band before him) at Number 17, and turned it into ‘Daydreamin’, fusing gentle RnB with vocals from Jill Scott.

Commentary

There’s almost some excitement in my chart this week, as Infernal crash in at 3 with ‘Self Control’, the amazing follow up to ‘From Paris to Berlin’. This of course means no move at the top for the camptastic Scissor Sisters at Number 1 for a seventh week, and also, rather neatly, gives Snow Patrol seven weeks at Number 2 as well. Evanescence rise to Number 5 with ‘Call Me When You’re Sober’, The Killers to Number 9 with the vaguely disappointing ‘When You Were Young’ and The Automatic score a Top 10 hit with the cool ‘Recover’.

There are five other new entries in this bumper week, the first from Girls Aloud at Number 14 with the rather fab ‘Something Kinda Oooh’. Its good to see them back on top form. The Beatfreakz return with ‘Superfreak’ at Number 16, The Pussycat Dolls don’t need any men at Number 17, Bob Sinclar wants to rock your Party at Number 19 and finally The Ordinary Boys are lonely at the top. Awwww.

Commentary

:o Can it be true? A top 2 that doesn’t contain Scissor Sisters or Snow Patrol?! Finally, there is a change at the top this week, as the brilliant ‘Self Control’ from Infernal leapfrogs to the top spot, and the gorgeous ‘Call Me When You’re Sober’ by Evanescence rises to Number 2. All this shocking stuff means that the Scissor Sisters' 7 week reign at the top is over, and Snow Patrol’s similar 7 week stranglehold as runner up has finished. The Feeling fall to 5, both September and Kasabian retain their positions of 6 and 7, The Killers rise for probably the last time with ‘When You Were Young’, Nelly F drops to 9, and The Pussycat Dolls don’t need a man at 10.

Cascada rise dramatically to 11, mainly thanks to the Candlelight Mix of 'Everytime We Touch' that I am loving at the moment, Girls Aloud rise to 12, Beatfreakz to 14, the Fratellis are back up at 16, Corrine Bailey Rae enters at 17 with the beautiful melody ‘Like A Star’, and Lily Allen inexplicably rises to 20. Finally this week, The Pipettes enter with ‘Judy’ at 23 the follow up to the marvellous tune ‘Pull Shapes’.

Commentary

In a dramatic week for my chart, Razorlight’s beautiful anthem ‘America’ rises 20 places to the runner up spot, very nearly unseating Infernal who only just hold on at the top spot with ‘Self Control’. Fair play to Razorlight! Another surprise new entry into the top 10 comes from My Chemical Romance at 8, ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’ is a surprisingly good romp, almost Queen-esque in parts. Fedde Le Grand (where might he be from then?!) pops into my chart at Number 9, with dance anthem ‘Put Your Hands Up For Detroit’. The song itself is comparable to Bennii Banassi’s ‘Satisfaction’, and the video, like Eric Prydz’s ‘Call On Me’ sees many young ladies writhing about suggestively to the music. A hit on the Box then! Finally in the top 10 this week, Girls Aloud continue their steady climb with ‘Something Kinda Ooh’.

Not much else going on outside of the top 10, Lily Allen rises to a new peak of Number 14, and there are also climbs for Beatfreakz, Corrine Bailey Rae and some staying power for Cascada at 11. The Kooks enter at Number 20, with ‘ooh La’, the follow up my chart Number 1 ‘She Moves In Her Own Way’.

Commentary

The Top 10 is on the move this week, starting with a brand new Number 1! Razorlight’s ‘America’ has made it to the top after a 7 week climb, fall and then climb. This is fast overtaking ‘The Golden Touch’ as my favourite Razorlight tune. This means that Infernal’s ‘Self Control’ (moved to a November release) drops to Number 2 and Scissor Sisters still have an aversion to dancing at 3. New entry time at Number 4, from the brilliantly catchy ‘Yeah Yeah’ from the Bodyrox with new vocals by Luiciana and I expect this dance tune (sounding not unlike Nelly Furtado’s ‘Maneater’ in parts) to be huge on release. Talking of huge dance tunes, Fedde Le Grand climbs at 6 with ‘Put Your Hands Up For Detroit’, again, I think this will do big things in the official chart on release.

Girls Aloud also climb at 5, with ‘Something Kinda Oooh’. Taken from their forthcoming Greatest Hits, this track is a chirpy piece of plastic pop, and is sure to give them yet another Top 10 hit. All this climbing in the Top 10 isn’t quite over, My Chemical Romance are up a place at 7 with ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’. This will surely be the biggest hit of their career when it charts officially tomorrow – and deservedly so. Finally in the Top 10, Evanescance, Snow Patrol and The Feeling lose their staying power, and this must be their last weeks in the Top 10? Find out next week…

Proving how random my chart can be, Jamelia is new at 11 with ‘Something About You’, a song that has been around for about 6 weeks on the official chart, but it has only recently caught my ears enough for me to really like it. Lily Allen also rises yet again with ‘LDN’, again another track that has only recently done it for me. I bought both these on CD single this week, so it seems I can be pretty fickle when I want to be! The sole remaining move of note is from The Kooks at 16, rising 4 places with ‘Ooh La’, meaning the rest of the chart comprises fallers and stickers (David Guetta and The Egg refuse to budge from the very bottom of the chart!).

Commentary

With Razorlight holding on at the top for a second week, you may think my chart was static this week – wrong! Girls Aloud rise to number 2, with the funky ‘Something Kinda Ooooh’. As I have said before, this is a bit of a return to form for them after their ballads, and it should see them back in the top 10 this very week. MCR also rise to 3 with the gargantuan ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’. This epic track is kind of a Bohemian Rhapsody for the Emo generation, and certainly draws comparisons to Queen, from the different sections of the song to the Brian May-esque guitar work.

There are 3 new entries in the Top 10 this week, firstly from Christina Aguilera, with the highlight of her ‘Back To Basics’ album – ‘Hurt’. This beautiful emotionally charged ballad is, imo the best track she has ever recorded, so watch it move up my chart next week! Secondly, the 90s are back with the return of All Saints. While not quite up to the peak of 'Pure Shores' and 'Black Coffee' back in 2000, ‘Rock Steady’ is, however, better than most Girl Band efforts these days! Finally, Madonna is back with the fourth track from ‘COAD’, and ‘Jump’ is one of the highlights of the album for me. Its baffling why she didn’t release this ahead of ‘Get Together’. Oh well, shes getting on a bit, you have to excuse the odd faux pas now and then!

Outside the top 10, Snow Patrol and The Feeling finally dip out of the top tier, and there are new entries from Keane, with the third track from ‘Under The Iron Sea’ – ‘Nothing In My Way’ is another sweeping tune from them, but I suspect it will miss the top 20 on full release. Gnarls Barkley is back with ‘Who Cares?’’. Well, I care, and for the record, ‘St Elsewhere’ one of the outstanding albums of the year, and although it takes a lot of time to get it, its well worth it. Cee Lo proves yet again what a powerful voice he has, and the track is as funky as you like! Nothing else to report in the rest of the chart, dear reader, see you next week!

Commentary

For the first time, Jester’s Top Tunes is now a Top 40! :cheer: This means loads of new entries, but lets start with the goings on in the Top 10. Christina Aguilera has climbed 6 places to the top spot this week, with the best song of her career so far (imo), ‘Hurt’, a heartfelt raw beautiful ballad. Check out the amazing video in the Christina forum. Girls Aloud hold at 2, and All Saints rise to 3 with ‘Rock Steady’. Infernal also hold at 4, and, Fedde Le Grand rises to 5 ahead of poor Razorlight who drop all the way from 1-6! Madonna ‘Jumps’ to 7 (har har) with Top 10 mainstays My Chemical Romance and Scissor Sisters dropping to 8 and 9. Bodyrox cling on to 10, ahead of its release next week. Phew!

A quick rundown of the rest, Amy Winehouse is new at 11 with the brilliant ‘Rehab’, Keane and Gnarls Barkley climb at 12 and 13, Kasabian have a new entry at 17 with ‘Shoot The Runner, Oasis enter at 22 with ‘Acquiesce’, the lead track from the ‘Stop The Clocks’ EP, The Sugababes and Beyonce are new entries at 28 and 29 with ‘Easy’ and ‘Irreplaceable’ and in the extended Top 40, James Morrison enters at 32 with ‘Wonderful World’.

The View have a new entry at 33 with the rather good (a potential climber I think) ‘Superstar Tradesman’, sounding a bit like The Arctic Monkeys, imo. Cass Fox has a new entry at 35 with a fab cover of Rui Da Silva’s ‘Touch Me’, Justin Timberlake and his ducks enter at 36 with ‘My Love’ and finally Jamiroquai have a new entry at 37 with ‘Runaway’. Its new entry-tastic this week!

Commentary

Another week, another new Number 1! This time, it has gone to the well deserved Girls Aloud, with ‘Something Kinda Ooooh’. In my opinion, one of their best songs ever, and it is deservedly helping them get their first Number 1 album too! All Saints are on the move to a new peak of Number 3, with the comeback-tastic ‘Rock Steady’. Christina drops to 3, and Infernal stay at 4 for a thrid week running. Bodyrox are up again to 5, with their new wave dance anthem, and Robbie Williams has a fab new entry at 6 with the brilliant ‘Lovelight’. Madonna and Fedde stay in the lower top 10, and bith Amy Winehouse and Keane finally rise into the top tier.

Lower down, Gnarls Barkley rise to 11, Kasabian to 15, Oasis to 16, Sugababes to 18, Beyonce to 20 and JT to 21. U2 and Green Day are new at 24 with ‘The Saints Are Coming’, and Fergie is new at 26 with ‘Fergalicious’ This may shut Tyron up for 5 minutes! There are a trio of risers next, from James Morrison at 27, Cass Fox at 28 and The View at 29. These are busy times for Jesters Top Tunes!

Commentary

Robbie Williams has his first Jester’s Top Tunes Number 1 this week, with the funky but beautiful ‘Lovelight’. Easily one of the highlights of the ‘Rudebox’ album, this track gets me bopping about the living room every time! The stunning ‘Take The Fire To The Third Bar’ from Snow Patrol and Martha Wainwright is my highest new entry at Number 2. This is, imo, the best track on ‘Eyes Open’ and looks set to enter the Official Top 10 next week. Yay! Girls Aloud fall to 3, Infernal stay at 4 for a 4th week, and the All Saints slip to 5. Christina Aguilera’s stunning ‘Hurt’ slips to 6, and ‘Yeah Yeah’ also drops. Gnarls Barkley finally climb into the top 10 with the cheeky ‘Who cares?’, the follow up to ‘Smiley faces’ and the double A side with ‘Gone Daddy Gone’ (which is a new entry at 33 this week). With Amy winehouse staying at 9 with ‘Rehab’ there is room for another climber from Kasabian, who follow up ‘Empire’ with the sublime ‘Shoot The Runner. Pure class!

Outside the top 10, JT climbs to 11 with ‘My Love’, The Feeling have a new entry at 14 with ‘Love It When You Call’ as do the Red Hot Chili Peppers at 15 with the lovely ‘Snow (Hey Oh)’ and Beyonce climbs yet again at 16 with ‘Irreplaceable’. Finally this week there are new entries from Pink at 21 with ‘Nobody Knows’, the brilliant AFI at 24 with ‘Love Like Winter’, Gnarls at 33 with ‘Gone Daddy Gone’ and Muse at 37 with ‘Knights of Cydonia’. Yet another very busy week!

Commentary

My fourth new Number 1 in four weeks sees Snow Patrol and Martha Wainwright climbing to the top spot with the beautiful ‘Set The Fire To The Third Bar’. This is one of the highlights of the million selling ‘Eyes Open’, with classic ‘Chasing Cars’ (which rises again to number 21). The Feeling are also on the up at 2 with the sublime ‘Love It When You Call’, the fourth single from the rather excellent ‘Twelve Stops and Home’. This is the third Jesters Top Tunes number 2 for The Feeling, following ‘Sewn’ and ‘Fill My Little World’. ‘’Never Be Lonely’ peaked at 3, and can be found hanging around at 30 this week. Robbie drops to 3, Christina is on the up yet again at 4, and Take That have this weeks highest new entry at 5. ‘Patience’ sees TT back at their best, with lead vocals by Gary of Barlow. This will surely rise again next week?

All Saints and Girls Aloud both slip to 6 and 7, but Amy Winehouse achieves a new peak of 8 with ‘Rehab’, as does Beyonce, with the ever growing ‘Irreplacable’. This Beyonce track has taken me by surprise, I was expecting it to be as awful as ‘Deja-vu’, bit it really is a superb tune. Fair play to Beyonce!! Finally in the top 10 this week, the Red Hot Chili Peppers climb with ‘Snow (Hey Oh)’, their best song in years, imo.

Other notables this week come from the Sugababes at 13, with ‘Easy’ (another grower), Nelly Furtado, entering at 15 with the lovely ‘All Good Things’, AFI climb to 18 with ‘Love Like Winter’ and finally Muse climb to 33 with ‘Knights of Cydonia’.

Commentary

Yet another new number 1 this week sees the lovely Nelly Furtado climbing 14 places to get her first Top Tunes chart topper with ‘All Good Things (Come To An End). This track is co-written by Coldplay’s Chris Martin, and its shows. Take That rise to 2 with ‘Patience’ and Beyonce does the unthinkable and rises yet again to 3! :o I even bought ‘Irreplaceable’ this week! Snow Patrol and The Feeling fall to 4 and 5 respectively, and the highest new entry is at 6 for the Scissor Sisters with ‘Land Of A Thousand Words’, the second single to be taken from the brilliant ‘Ta Dah’. Christina falls to 7, Amy Winehouse is still in Rehab at 8, Robbie drops rather sharply at 9 and All Saints fall to 10.

Outside the Top 10, there are new entries for Jamelia with ‘Beware Of The Dog’ at 11 and Emma Bunton pops up at 12 with the 60s cover ‘Downtown’. In a static week, there is no other significant movement as Razorlight stick at 19, Scissor Sisters at 20, Snow Patrol at 21, Lily Allen at 28 and The Feeling at 30.
