Posted August 29, 200618 yr From NYPost HILTON'S CD IS INSTANT TANKER 2006 -- PARIS Hilton's career as a pop star is fizzling as quickly as one of her blink-and-you'll-miss-it relationships. In its first week out of the gate, Hilton's first CD is being widely seen as a certified flop. "Paris," which features the single "Stars Are Blind," sold a lackluster 75,000 copies in the United States - a pittance compared to Christina Aguilera's first-week sales of 320,000, according to Soundscan. And projected sales for next week are said to be a measly 30,000, which is a larger than normal second week drop. "Paris" is languishing at the bottom of Billboard's Hot 100 - so Hilton's label rushed out her second single, "Turn It Up," which isn't doing very well either. "The international outlook is not much better for her," one industry source told Page Six. "The international people are not inclined to do a big push since she can't back up the album with a tour. Obviously, she can't sing live." The source added that Hilton was advised a year ago to train her voice, work with choreographers and learn an instrument to prepare for a limited tour, but "obviously she didn't listen." Hilton's rep, Elliot Mintz, said, "To me, [the album] sounds huge. For a newcomer, this is incredibly impressive." Meanwhile, Hilton's reputation as a dirty girl put one of her former sex partners on edge after they'd been to bed together. Elijah Blue Allman, the hunky son of Cher and Gregg Allman, boasted to Howard Stern the other day that he had a fling with Hilton before she was famous - but he got nervous right afterward that he might have picked up a sexually transmitted disease from her. Allman says he was so worried, he raced downstairs and grabbed a household cleaning product to pour over his private parts and "disinfect" them. While Stern flipped over the tawdry tale, aired over his Sirius Satellite Radio raunchfest show, Hilton wasn't thrilled with the disclosure. "She's not happy about it," said a source, despite the fact Allman tried to lessen the low blow by noting she was a "sweet girl" nonetheless. From Post Chronicle Paris Hilton Celebrity CD "Paris" Headed For Certain Obscurity By Jack Ryan Aug 29, 2006 It just goes to show.. just because you have the name doesn't mean you have the talent. And Paris Hilton is learning yet another very public lesson -- celebrity isn't going to save her highly touted CD "Paris" from almost certain obscurity. "Paris" sales are being "widely seen as a certified flop" says Page Six. "Her career as a pop star is fizzling as quickly as one of her blink-and-you'll-miss-it relationships." Hilton reportedly worked hard to make this music CD (we saw her "struggle" through the grueling ordeal of picking out a sexy partner for her "Stars Are Blind" music video), but it seems the monotone nature of the single didn't thrill clubgoers. A second single "Turn It Up" was released as well, but it didn't stem the downward slide. First week sales were 75,000 copies, which are expected to drop by half that for the next week. In other Paris Hilton news, our favorite heir-head has also infuriated movie bosses recently by refusing to work with any of the leading men picked for her new film. The budding actress-and-singer has reportedly signed up to star in 'The Hottie and the Naughty', but has so far been unhappy with the prospective actors picked to appear opposite her. A film insider told Australia's New Weekly magazine: "They must have tried out over a dozen guys but still not one of them has been cast. A few have made it to a screen test with Paris but either the producers aren't happy or, more often, Paris has a problem with them. She is as picky with the men in her movies as she is in real life." Shooting on the movie is due to start later this year. Ah well.. the one talent the intrepid Ms. Hilton DOES have is garnering free publicity. And she did that in spades with this latest gig. :o :o :o LifeLight
August 29, 200618 yr As much as dislike Paris, the article is biased and totally inaccurate. 'Turn it Up' was released as a dance track for clubs, much in the same fashion as 'No Hay Igual' was released in the US at the same time as 'Promiscuous' and sadly has done well in the clubs. I'm suprised Paris has sold so well, when 'Nothing In this World' is released will be interesting to see if the album starts to sell more :D
August 29, 200618 yr The Paris album is amzing, Peolpe should forget the fact the fact its Paris Hilton and listen to the album its great, Who's cares if she doesn't have the best voice? Its a fantstuc album end of! xxxxxxx
August 29, 200618 yr Author the fact is that some sources have such a great power... if they label it huge flop, everyone will consider it so and... LifeLight
August 29, 200618 yr Well. I was considering buying the album from Itunes, but instead only bought 'Screwed' and 'Turn It Up'.
August 29, 200618 yr I don't see the album as a flop at all. And you can't compare the sales to Christina Aguilera. I find that pathetic. Christina has a much larger fan base and has established herself. This is Paris's debut. I am sick of hearing about her not being able to sing - the bottom line is many singers don't actually have brilliant voices *cough britney cough* yet still manage to sell well. I think people and the media (as usual) are being far to harsh, judgemental and skeptical. Its artciles like that which make young female singers do drastic and unneccerserry things like develop eating disorders and get pointless surgery. Unbelievable. I don't see how 70, 000 in one week can be deemed a flop. The album always has the possibility of being a constant seller and remaining in the charts for awhile. The press have wanted to slam paris's album since she announced she was recording one Edited August 29, 200618 yr by Ozx
August 29, 200618 yr I agree the press wanted to slam Paris album :(. It's a good album but people won't see past the newspapers, they want her to fail to give them something to make fun of and write about :(
August 29, 200618 yr I think it's absolutely attrocious personally. I'm glad it's flopping, but as I say, I don't like her at all, so I wanted it to flop so she'll be dropped and we can add a flop to her name. No offence to anyone that does like it, each to their own and all that, but I think the vocals are weaker than a tea with 90% milk, the production on it is good i'll give it that they try not to make her vocals appear as awful as they are, which for that i'll give Scott Storch credit (even though I detest him too) but i'm not surprised or upset she's flopping. Good riddance.
August 29, 200618 yr Though theres no chance of her being dropped - its her own label (i think), unless she drops herself
August 29, 200618 yr the bottom line is many singers don't actually have brilliant voices *cough britney cough* yet still manage to sell well. What a cheap shot. Britney may not have the BEST voice but she can sing better then Paris, she can also dance, is a VERY entertaining performer, and can play the piano. And like the article said Paris can do none of those. FACT. Anyways paris' songs are good, and i think for her 70K is decent. Edited August 29, 200618 yr by Tyler
August 29, 200618 yr In a way I'm glad it's "flopping" as Paris needs a reality check, but at the same time it's a damn good album that's slated purely because of who's singing it.
August 29, 200618 yr Its Paris Hilton and its only what can be expected no matter how good or bad it might be. Most people love to hate her (me included) and the media feel that as well and the media does have real power and if they slate something then other people will be put off buying it, were as if they praise some thing its the exact opposite.
August 30, 200618 yr i really thought her music would be c**p and although i wouldnt buy her album stars are blind is catchy and better than i ever expected from her
August 30, 200618 yr Well I know me and Aly are happy about it. Also, Josh my love you're completely right the media does have a heavy influence on the success of a project. ;)
August 30, 200618 yr I am, I've heard the new version of 'Screwed' and it's decent I have to say, I also heard 'Turn It Up' and it sounded like a typical urban chav club banger to me. :smoke: 'Stars Are Blind' is tiring very fast now. Barely 100k in the space of two weeks in the US is pretty bad.
August 30, 200618 yr Agreed Britney Spears' Greatest Hits album sold 258,000 in its first week and they considered that a flop. Edited August 30, 200618 yr by Tyler
August 30, 200618 yr Tyler I apologise if I have offended but I really don't consider what I said to be a cheap shot. Britney can play the piano etc but you can't say she displayed this when she first came out. She was a product. hot bod, pretty with an okay recording singing voice. Many artists can't "sing". They have "okay" singing voices in a studio but are slim, pretty, youthfull - whatever, they have the package to be a "pop star" regardless of their singing ability. Just like Britney Paris is no different. People have had it in for her since the begining. Her songs are good, if other people sang them they would have been more successfull. And bottom line is Paris was involved in the writing process and seemed to be very hands on in the making of her album. I am not making a britney v paris debate here I just want to say that having a great voice does not have much to do with disposable pop music I think Edited August 30, 200618 yr by Ozx
August 30, 200618 yr I never thought she would be a long-term artist. I expected the album to go top twenty in the UK though.
August 30, 200618 yr I love turn it up and screwed.. i really think she should release turn it up next.. that is if she wants to save this project.
