**"total estimated sales figures" are my last fm scrobbles of all versions of the song up to 11 December 2013, 18:10 - which have been multiplied by 10,000 to make them seem more like sales figures of my fictional BJSC participating country, Danaelanda. The chart is not purely based on last fm playcount, which is why some songs with lower 'sales' are higher in the chart.

Starting the top 15 is an act that I had the privilege of seeing live a few months ago! Sub Focus has made some great tunes this year, but the one that's lasted in my affections the most is this. With the help of Alex Clare's vocals, Sub made an anthemic dubstep hit which was this. Stepping away from the drumstep into drum n' bass formula that he used in 'Out the Blue' and 'Tidal Wave', it proved that he is capable of producing different sub-genres. The next single 'Turn It Around' disappointingly went back to that formula but thankfully he's now released 'Turn Back Time' which is an electro-house banger. It's been a big year for him so deservedly he gets this year-end #15 position.

Now we have a feel-good tune from newcomer Duke Dumont and his breakthrough single, and only UK chart hit to date, although that will change when he releases 'I Got U'. (he must love the letter U). With the 90s meets 2013 production, the humming of uncredited vocalist MNEK and the demanding lyrics from A*M*E ('are you gonna be the one who's always gonna treat me right?'), it was the tune that kept on giving, with 17 of its 22 charting weeks being spent in the top 20.

The biggest selling song of the year in the UK (and presumably in most other countries in the world) and the first of two Pharrell entries is at #13. 'Blurred Lines' with its controversial lyrics, video and Robin/Miley VMA performance was unavoidable in the summer - but it's a really catchy tune and I couldn't help but love it. Now tell me buzzjack what rhymes with hug me?

◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊

I've still not got bored of Need U (100%), it just works so well and is one of my favourite dance songs of the year. Really loving his new one as well so I hope that's another success!

At #12 is a song that originally made my #1 in 2012, but it continued to slay in my charts for another 6 months, helped by its increased popularity in the UK. It's a fun (I'm using that word too much aren't I?) song about how you don't need to wear big brands to look cool when you can save $$ at the thrift shop, an unusual choice of subject for a rap song considering most rappers love to brag about how much they have, but songs like this and 'Royals' are needed in the charts just to show that not everyone needs the rich lifestyle.

Sadly missing out on a spot in the top 10 is Disclosure with their best song to date 'White Noise' which is just ahead of 'Latch' in my affections (the latter would probably be higher than #41 in this chart if it was released this year). Aluna isn't the greatest vocalist on their album but she does work on this song, the main highlight however is the production - although I do love the hook too. It's been great having them in the charts this year as they provide a different style of house, but sadly it's not enough to land a place in my top 10.

Any predictions for what will be high in my chart? Will Avicii take over my entire top 3? Find out soon.

For the third year in a row, Calvin has an entry in my end of year top 10. The song originally went in my top 20 as an album track, but I properly loved it when it (predictably) became a single. Ellie's wonderful unique voice and Calvin's production work well together to create this amazing pop-dance tune. I would like to hear her do more dance songs especially if they're as good as this. Could a Martin Garrix/Ellie collab happen in 2014 after both artists expressed their love for each other's work in the chart show? I don't think so but it would be amazing.

Coming in at #9 is Hardwell's breakthrough smash hit on my chart ('The World' peaked at #36 prior to this). The production on this is amazing, it reminds me of 'Language' but with Hardwell's style, having a melodic buildup followed by a drop more focused on the bass. It also has a small vocal section which adds even more to the song (the radio edit however has this section twice, I much prefer the original mix though)

Dance music legend Armin van Buuren comes in at #8. The production may not be very exciting, but it's a very good pop song and what makes it are the melodies and the vocals. Ironically, the lyrics are about a heartbreak yet the song is very upbeat - but that doesn't stop it from being a proper tune. It was also this song that led me to check out the rest of the album, so thanks for that Armin. And it was his first UK T40 hit since 2000! Amazing! The W&W remix of this is also worth checking out.

The first of three Avicii entries in the top 10 lands here. It would be hard for anyone to follow up a song as good as 'Wake Me Up' and keep the high standard. This may not be as good as that, but it's still amazing! With uncredited vocals from Salem Al Fakir (from 'Silhouettes'), Avicii shows us how to make a good pop song. It just puts me in a good mood, every time. Keep it up Mr Bergling!

Sadly just missing out on the top 5 is Storm Queen and MK with 'Look Right Through'. Originally a 2011 song for Storm Queen, it got the MK treatment in 2012, and finally became a hit in 2013. It's by far the highest deep house song in the countdown, and with the soulful vocals of the uncredited vocalist and the catchy bassline from MK, there was no way I wasn't going to love this!

Avicii x2, AWOLNATION, Daft Punk and Martin Garrix make up my top 5. Any last minute predictions?

Starting the top 5 is the highest non-EDM song in the chart, the brilliant breakthrough hit for AWOLNATION. I love how the song builds up throughout, at the start we've got just the riff but by the end we have added drums and a guitar. The guy in the song sings as if he's shouting, but with lyrics like 'maybe I should kill myself?' this effect works well and shows his pain. And it's a proper grower, its chart run in both the UK and US reflecting this, as well as my chart.

At the #4 is the breakthrough chart hit of 17 year old Martin Garrix. There's not much I can say about this song that hasn't already been said, it was the biggest underground club hit of the year, then months later it made the UK's official #1. It's already an iconic song in the dance scene, which has inspired tons of rip-offs. Some people have gone off it because of overplay, or because it's seen as 'cool' to dislike mainstream songs - but I still love it. It's amazing and if this is what Martin can do at 17 then I have high hopes for him in the future. The drop in this is a big *.* moment imo.

Starting off the top 3 is the first of two Avicii entries. Yes that means sadly one song got in the way of an all-Avicii top 2. It is the biggest 'selling' song on the countdown, but that is largely down to the number of remixes this had and the fact that this was released months before the songs in my top 2. Avicii started off the year with this debuting straight in the top 3 and climbing to #1 a few weeks later where it would stay for 5 n/c weeks.

The song is brilliantly produced, especially the buildup where you can hear Avicii's contribution to the record - he just has that 'sound' that I love so much. The drop is not a disappointment havingsaidthat, it's far from it actually; perfect for a bedroom rave  The song's just brilliant in every way and for a few months I thought this would easily take the YE #1 unless something really impressive were to come out. And it did, and you can find out very shortly whether Avicii or Daft Punk has followed the footsteps of Yolanda B Cool/D Cup, LMFAO and PSY to become Thermo's Tune of the Year.

At #2 is a disco-pop song from Daft Punk. When I first heard the preview my thoughts were 'is this really the best Daft Punk can do after 8 years since their last studio album?' but the song was released in its 4 minute edit and I loved it. The album version (6 minutes) however is even better and the version I prefer to listen to. It has a very catchy guitar riff, which was probably Nile Rodger's contribution to the song so yay him. It also contains vocals by Pharrell who returned to relevance with this song, plus, most importantly, the return of the robotic vocals! All those parts come together for a funky song that has a 70s disco feel but weirdly sounds very relevant too. So congratulations guys for being at #2. Only 1 song released this year has been better than yours :D

And in the end it wasn't even close as Avicii storms to victory with 'Wake Me Up', the lead single from True. Similarly to Daft Punk, my first reaction to this song wasn't a good one. I was linked to a radio rip of the song and I wasn't impressed that he had left his Levels/I Could Be the One sound for a more country styled dance record - but it was love at first listen when the high quality version was out, and it shot to #1 on my chart where it would stay for 8 n/c weeks, with 18 total weeks in the top 10 including those 8. It was also a monster hit in the UK, where it was the fastest selling single of the year (even faster than Blurred Lines and Get Lucky which have outsold it in the long run), and it stopped 'Best Song Ever' from going to #1 :D

I grew to love the folk/country vibes in the song, even though I hate the genre. Other good features of the song include Aloe's vocals, the great lyrics and obviously Avicii's production especially in the drop. It fails to tire on me, it's just that good. LOVE LOVE LOVE! And even better, I'll be seeing him DJ live in February of next year *.* Can't wait to hear this song on really loud speakers, it'll be a proper moment for me.

2013 has certainly been the year of Avicii so it is only appropriate that he has the #1 album and #1 single, this is the first time an act has done this in my year-end chart.

So thank you everyone who's been following this chart, hopefully 2014 is just as good a year for music as 2013 was. Next year there will be another end of year chart, but no - the fun doesn't end here :o Because at the end of next year we'll officially be halfway into the decade (unless you're one of those people who thinks the decade started at 2011) so there will be a special chart dedicated to the best songs of the decade so far. Much excitement!

039. Rudimental feat. Ella Eyre "Waiting All Night" Not at all keen on this but Ella is a fab singer ^_^

It certainly was, proper hip-hop tune this is!

He wasn't bad on X Factor! It's definitely one of the most hyped records of the year, I'm glad it got popular though cos it's a tune

Looking forward to this chart! :D

Rihanna sure knows where to go if her pop career fails  She's very sexy imo

DWYW is outside my top 100 :P Applause is a lot better

I agree re: the fab singer part of that statement, she should do another collab with someone, I'm not sure if she'll make it on her own

Nothing more I can say but that top 8 is trumendous :cheer:

Nice to hear :D Don't you like Calvin though? :P And I imagine you're not familiar with the Hardwell song.

Thanks Rob! :D
