November 30, 201311 yr oh dear I like all of them, love some (Oasis/Flo), though Thom Yorke just isn't as chirpy cheerful as he was in his younger days when he had us all hop skipping and dancing along to Creep  I can understand why his voice isn't to everyone's taste, running the gamut as it does all the way from angst-ridden to morose...
December 1, 201311 yr So - this thread is about ultra-hip bands that you might not like...... iamwhothehellamiwill.i.am The Knife LCD Sound System
December 1, 201311 yr Enough with the Radiohead hate! Everything from The Bends through Kid A is just amazing (especially Kid A) and the subsequent albums all have their moments even if none of them are quite as perfect as what came before. The Bends through Kid A Yankee Doodle Dandy*?
December 1, 201311 yr Author So - this thread is about ultra-hip bands that you might not like...... iamwhothehellamiwill.i.am The Knife LCD Sound System i'll give you ultra-hip on iammynameistoolongandsilly but I honestly believe The Knife and LCD's music transcends such vapid labelling and has a real art and precision to it. Neither are a style-over-substance band in any way... Both of exemplary within the field of electronica and we wouldn't have the new electronic music we do now without them.
December 1, 201311 yr Imagine Dragons. They sound like Nickelback and Creed (the lead singer's voice does) and everyone adores them. They don't sound "indie" to me yet they are indie.
December 1, 201311 yr So - this thread is about ultra-hip bands that you might not like...... iamwhothehellamiwill.i.am The Knife LCD Sound System all three are AMAZING. and i am so in agreement with your taste normally, these 3 should be pretty transcendental tho...

I dont at all dispute what you're saying. My statement doesn't judge The Knife or LCD or claim any relevance to their quality or influence. I was just saying I don't like them and it seems that everyone else does - in the spirit of the thread title.
December 1, 201311 yr all three are AMAZING. and i am so in agreement with your taste normally, these 3 should be pretty transcendental tho... what do you mean, transcendental?
December 1, 201311 yr Although I do like a couple of tracks, iamgonnagetmybapsoutinthenameofartami is an absolute triumph of style over substance and I am truly mystified why people get so excited by her. Yawn.
December 1, 201311 yr Other examples of ultra popular bands I do not get at all are The 1975, London Grammar (bio-engineered clones of The XX) and worst of all the absolutely dreadful Bastille.
December 1, 201311 yr Other than 'Silent Shout' and about a third of 'Deep Cuts' The Knife really are quite terrible to be fair. It took me a while to really like iam... but her album is quite good. I still however think 'Play' is by far the worst thing on it and I have no idea why it seems to be regarded as one of the best, if not the best, on it. I'd agree with Bastille too, they're ok but nothing more. I see nothing in their songs that makes me even understand why they've been such a success, particularly this recent cover. One of the worst tracks this year.
December 1, 201311 yr Hurts are mainly TERRIBLE Indeed. They are all wistful and windswept like a boy band. Stay, for example, is horrendously generic. I would deem it too wet for Westlife. Then there's the way they remind of Simple Minds, and that doesn't do them any favours. That said - I love Illuminated (although that's because it sounds like Muse) and Sunday, and like Wondeful Life.
December 1, 201311 yr Stereophonics too I loved 'A Thousand Trees' but after that they did my head in, the same grating Kelly Jones vocals, the same repetitive songs But they had huge success
December 1, 201311 yr I forgot Elbow and PJ Harvey. Yes - I went there. Elbow I can understand as apart from the truly sublime One Day Like This I find them a bit dull and sort of worthy. Peej on the other hand - blasphemy!

Perhaps I just have to try harder. I put a lot of effort into listening to Let England Shake and I came away only liking On Battleship Hill.
