December 1, 201311 yr Perhaps I just have to try harder. I put a lot of effort into listening to Let England Shake and I came away only liking On Battleship Hill. TBH though I love LES I don't think it's her most accessible album. I think you'd be better off starting with her debut Dry or To Bring You My Love.
December 1, 201311 yr oh dear oh dear oh dear, so much hate.....! For a start the divide between trendy Indie labels and rock is arbitrary and flawed. Imagine Dragons are rock/pop and way more versatile than either one-note Nickelback or Creed. The Beatles (sorry, not over-rated in any way, they are perfectly rated as the top band of all time) are pop, rock, gospel, reggae, blues, rocknroll, MOR, thrash metal, experimental, indie, psychedelic, 30's retro, ballad, world music and any other genre they had a go at (and they had a go at most). Versatility and invention is not a dirty word, churning out the same old stuff is... Elbow, PJ Harvey, Hurts, Simple Minds, Stereophonics (sometimes), Bastille, London Grammar, Green day are all about right as far as critical and popular appreciation goes, not really over-rated as such. Kings Of Leon are good, but have been over-rated at times, The 1975 I also don't get. My number one disliked band I'm afraid is rock, not indie. They have a sometimes air pilot as vocalist, are intelligent and affable, and have shoved out the same record under different titles for 35 years. That's stretching things just a tad for me....
December 1, 201311 yr Queen are another band. They only have like FOUR SONGS I'd choose to listen to. god yes.
December 1, 201311 yr Other examples of ultra popular bands I do not get at all are The 1975, London Grammar (bio-engineered clones of The XX) and worst of all the absolutely dreadful Bastille. SO agree on the former and latter especially (love their new song tho)
December 1, 201311 yr Other examples of ultra popular bands I do not get at all are The 1975, London Grammar (bio-engineered clones of The XX) and worst of all the absolutely dreadful Bastille. YES to everything said here. Although Bastille are at least LISTENABLE. Never really liked Cut Copy until this year as well. So hope is still alive for any band :magic:
December 1, 201311 yr It took me a while to really like iam... but her album is quite good. I still however think 'Play' is by far the worst thing on it and I have no idea why it seems to be regarded as one of the best, if not the best, on it. For me it's one of only about three songs of hers where I can actually detect a melody. Brilliant song, don't care for much of her stuff aside from that track.
December 1, 201311 yr I am not a fan of PJ Harvey either. (and I was pretty far gone when I wrote the transcendental comment so even I dunno what I meant there ha. basically I like them and think you should too)
December 1, 201311 yr There's every reason to dislike the likes of Bastille, 1975 and Imagine Dragons.
December 1, 201311 yr Imagine Dragons are hilariously unoriginal. Everyone of their songs sounds like a greater band. Mostly U2, The Killers and Coldplay but they also like ripping of RHCP and Franz Ferdinand.
December 1, 201311 yr I forgot Elbow and PJ Harvey. Yes - I went there. I always wondered whether or not you liked PJ Harvey. I always thought you "should" like her, but never saw you include her in your countdowns and stuff. I'm surprised, I have to say. I find it hard to choose a favourite album though, I really like them all.
December 1, 201311 yr p4k > nme and i'm not sorry The Quietus >>>>>>>>>>>>p4k>nme No I'm not sorry either.
December 1, 201311 yr Q is the best, and I assume that's why we're not discussing it. NME is TERRIBLE on an ABORTION level though.
December 1, 201311 yr bjork?!?? oh come on she's fabulous! Apart from Army Of Me I don't like anything but I loved The Sugarcubes
December 1, 201311 yr Q is the best, and I assume that's why we're not discussing it. Q is CATEGORICALLY the worst.
December 1, 201311 yr Coldplay, Keane, Stereophonics post 1998, Bjork Remove Pagan Poetry from post 1998 Bjork and I agree. I really should hate Coldplay but I dont. They seem to manage three decent singles off each album - until 2009, anyway.
