What % lead does it have over #2 now & how do you find this info out?

Pop bars aren't on here anymore are they?

UK link: http://kworbtest.dreamhosters.com/popuk/

It is currently selling 852% of the #2. If you make an assumption that Clean Bandit are selling around 12K/day at the moment, then Band Aid 30 are selling around 102K/day.

There seems to be quite a storm brewing up about the rights and wrongs about: the songs lyrics, the performers, the non performers, donations, etc., etc.

If the Ebola virus ever spread out of Africa to the UK etc., concern over the pro's and cons of "Do They Know It's Christmas" will be the least of our worries!

And speaking of Ebola,

I downloaded this morning from the I-tunes top songs chart the "Africa Stop Ebola" single. It's at #97 as I type.

Just read an interesting article from Fuse ODG explaining why he pulled out: basically, he feels its detrimental to Africa in the long term. People will buy the song ,almost due to the guiltripping of Geldof, but long term the people who will buy the record barely care about Africa.

He didn't agree with most of the lines in the song, especially "No peace and joy in West Africa this Christmas time" when only 3 countries there have Ebola!

Personally I agree, also why do normal people have to donate money for this hashed-together single why the famous musicians just donate their time?

But them lyrics are not correct, if you listen to it, the correct lyrics are: "Bring peace and joy this Christmas, to West Africa"

I think they changed it due to his protest.

No, Bob Geldof told all the artists if they're not comfortable with any re-worked lyrics to change them as it's "Their own views on Africa" which was why SEAL changed his part when he sang and so did ELLIE GOULDING; but FUSE ODG said he felt awkward, so in a way it's his problem! -_-

(not that i have anything against FUSE, I like his music a lot) :)

The musicians will almost certainly have donated a large amount of money as well. It's for awareness and encouraging other people to donate.

Kworb update:

Band Aid 30 is in dark red and the #2 is sitting on 0.1591 despite decreasing itself. If we assume Clean Bandit are selling 8K/day, then Band Aid 30 are selling ~50K/day.

Apparently he felt the whole song had questionable lyrics and it would be futile trying to change them ALL. Its his continent and since his T.I.N.A movement projects a positive Africa, he is well within his rights to snub Geldof.

That's not the image portrayed though, especially as it was hashed together in a day and expect people to donate no matter what the song sounds like.

Peronsally, I don't feel the song is that bad but I can see why its provoked criticism, some of which I agree with.

That's because it's not about the song, it's about the awareness. They want you to donate no matter what and the song is an easy way to get people to do that. I doubt any of the artists involved are thinking 'we don't have to donate anything because everyone else will do it for us when we record this song'.

Of course its partly about the song, people wanna hear the lyrics and feel humbled/inspired by them in a charity record. The new lines seem shoehorned into rather than properly thought-out and that's what people are angry about.

I guess most of the artists who appeared are down-to-earth enough to donate but Geldof's attack on Adele for pulling out shows how just donating isn't enough for some - you have to donate your time as well.

He never attacked Adele. If you watch the Sky News interview you'll see he actually defends her decision not to participate. His words were taken completely out of context in the Telegraph article.

Geldof's 'attack' on Adele has already been shown to be massively exaggerated and taken out of context (but of course this wouldn't be reported by most media outlets because it's not as interesting a story as 'BOB GELDOF IS A COMPLETE ARSEHOLE TO ADELE! BURN HIM!') He has actually said that he fully respects Adele's decision to not be involved.

Fair enough if you don't like the new lyrics but the song has always had some questionable lyrics and this is not unique to BA30, I think the whole thing is being massively blown out of proportion. Is it really worth it to worry about the lyrics of a pop song when the whole point of it is to raise money for charity, which is exactly what it's doing? Even if people don't like/agree with the song its existence will probably encourage them to donate to *something* (be that to the ebola aid via a different route or to another charity which they feel to be more 'worthy' or whatever) which they may otherwise not have done.

He came across as a sarcastic grumpy bast*rd in that Sky News interview, I know the questions were awful and he'd had a horrendous day of interviews but he could at least cheer up once in a while.

Fair enough to Geldof for defending Adele, I admit I just read an article online about it and not watched the interview so an "attack" is too strong a word to use!

Of course its great to raise money for Ebola and a song is an effective way of doing that. If you've got Africans calling out the lyrics, calling them contradictory, then its right to take note of that. Fuse is right to say that outside of charity events like this, not many people give two s*its about Africa.

Fair enough. I'm glad he stuck to his morals and beliefs rather than bandwagoning to feature on a #1 single.
