December 10, 201311 yr SO many people nominating Disclosure. I always thought they were more dance orientated. Aw well. We now know the album of the year since practically everyone has nominated them haha. :(
December 10, 201311 yr Yeah as much as I love them, I do not understand why people are nominating Little Mix & Disclosure. Little Mix are clearly pop and Disclosure are clearly dance ... they might have R&B influences in some of their songs but they are not R&B artists.
December 10, 201311 yr i think garage / house music has its roots in both dance and urban, and as per MOST discussions with music genres cross over so much these days it is hard to distinguish!
December 10, 201311 yr Author As much as I love Disclosure and think the music most definitely does has urban tinges & origins it probably won't be getting my backing/votes mainly because I think there's better/more relevant examples of the genre this year. Like, I think I'll be basing a lot of my votes on what represents the best/most pure urban music right now (if that makes any sense). YAY for the turnout though! Keep them coming and the next stage will be up sometime this week :D
December 10, 201311 yr oh definitely, i'd say it's all up to distinction and personal preference of how you want to run it - a lot of inclusions are iffy but in terms of genre awards you will always get that!
December 10, 201311 yr I just took it in the wider sense, as the MOBO's take it for example, Disclosure were certainly nominated for a few MOBO's this year, and I can imagine Little Mix being next year with such a new found R&B influence.

December 10, 201311 yr Album of the Year > Kanye West 'Yeezus' Song of the Year > Drake feat. Majid Jordan 'Hold On, We're Going Home' > Fuse ODG 'Antenna' > Justin Timberlake 'Mirrors' > Justin Timberlake feat. Jay-Z 'Suit & Tie' > Kanye West 'Black Skinhead' > Kendrick Lamar 'Backseat Freestyle' > Laura Mvula 'Green Garden' > Macklemore and Ryan Lewis feat. Mary Lambert 'Same Love' > Tinie Tempah feat. 2 Chainz 'Trampoline' > Tinie Tempah feat. John Martin 'Children Of The Sun' Collaboration of the Year > Frank Ocean feat. Nicki Minaj and Pharrell 'Get Like Me' Outstanding Contribution to Urban Music > Kanye West I'm drawing too many blanks on the other categories and didn't really feel like submitting my lists of like 3 people max per list (they've all been nominated plenty already anyway). I tried ~ Still just submitting my sole nom for AotY because I can't just not nominate in like the main category.
December 11, 201311 yr Author Bumping this up one last time if anyone wants to squeeze some noms out before tonight (even if it's just one/two categories)?? I know there's a few shifty-bums that promised to respond (<_<), but once this closes you're ALL welcome back in the next stage of voting where it really heats up :o :o
December 11, 201311 yr YAY. prefer the next stage because i'm pretty terrible at this genre sorting stuff so count me in.
December 11, 201311 yr Yeah as much as I love them, I do not understand why people are nominating Little Mix & Disclosure. Little Mix are clearly pop and Disclosure are clearly dance ... they might have R&B influences in some of their songs but they are not R&B artists. I haven't nominated, but if I were in charge of an award show like this I would include Little Mix and Disclosure personally. I think even Little Mix's singles from their first album were quite R&B-sounding to be honest. Disclosure especially, since they collaborate with lots of R&B/soul singers like Jessie Ware and Sam Smith, all the urban stations (Choice FM, Radio 1Xtra, Rinse FM, Capital Xtra) have been playing them, and they always play Disclosure in urban clubs. Although I would include them personally, I could understand not including Little Mix since they're not really involved in the scene, but it would be unfair not to include Disclosure imo, since they were one of the biggest artists in the urbanized areas in the country during the past 12 months. December 11, 201311 yr I, for one, am surprised at that list of nominations. (Scotland is still part of the UK btw)
December 11, 201311 yr I know there's a few shifty-bums that promised to respond (<_<), but once this closes you're ALL welcome back in the next stage of voting where it really heats up :o :o Yeah, that's what I'm doing. I would nominate Kanye for the Outstanding Contribution award but I can't be arsed really.
