Kings of melancholy, Hurts, came back this year with this "stadium anthem" track. While the more orchestral, rock inspired sound didn't really hold up well across most of their Exile album, it worked extremely well for lead single "Miracle," which sounds as anthemic as is tries to be!

I absolutely loved this lovely, sad, folk-pop gem. Aplin's voice is beautiful as she sings about an ending relationship.

I'm not even gonna lie, this song probably wouldn't be that appealing to me if the guys weren't so hot. That said I do think this sound and their slight edge set them apart from other boy bands out right now, even if it's one guy doing most of the singing. But when they look like that does it really matter?

Queen Michelle Williams came back with an uplifting Gospel/RnB fusion. Michelle has always been my favorite Destiny's Child member and her voice is incredible on this track. She may have sung background for Beyonce but she'll always sing lead in my heart!

The only thing I feel was good overall in music this year was Spanish pop. I discovered this band online and instantly fell in love with their soft pop/rock sound. This song has such beautiful metaphors in its lyrics.

X Factor Australia winner Samantha Jade totally slayed me last year with her debut single "What You've Done To Me." But then she released the embarrassing mess of a song called "Firestarter" and I thought it was all over for her. Luckily her third single proves to be a true return to form. The stuttering in the chorus serves some flawless Girls Aloud realness!

After her flawless EP Late in 2012, drummer extraordinaire Florrie gave us a tiny taste of what's next this year with the catchy "Live A Little." The instrumental intro is absolutely the best part of the song! Now can she please give us a full album!

42. Fefe Dobson

Early 2000s one hit wonder, Fefe Dobson seems to pop up every few years and drops a should've-been smash just to show us she still has it. A couple of years ago it was "Stuttering" and this year it was the anthemic "Legacy." As cliche as it is I love the "Live for the moment" theme of the song. I love how the track builds up to that explosive chorus!

Cultural appropriation aside, Selena kind of slayed this year. Following up the post-modern masterpiece "Love You Like a Love Song," is not an easy feat but Selena did is a well as she could. The pre chorus section of the song is divine!

40. Anita Blay - Doing It Wrong

The theme song of the flawless Some Girls might as well be my own theme song. Blay just knows how to capture those moments of self doubt and insecurity and somehow makes it into a catchy pop song!! I honestly don't even know/care what she goes by these days; Cocknbullkid? Anita Blay? Whatever just give us a follow up to the flawless Adulthood

Selena Gomez does her best Britney impression and actually succeeds! Girl can't sing or dance to save her life, but that doesn't stop her from putting out some genuine smashes!

38. Fifth Harmony - Better Together

Flawless girl group Fifth Harmony channel some 90s and Ariana Grande realness on this jam of a second single. This sound really suits the girls. Let's hope their debut album has a few more tinges of rnb. Special props to Normani's falsetto note and LegendALLY leading the chorus and serving that high note at the bridge!

This is everything a slow RnB jam should be! I remember Sevyn from short-lived girl group RichGirl and was pleasantly surprised when she sprang up with this song.

This I never saw coming and is exactly the reason why I try to listen to every song without any reservations. You can completely write someone off and suddenly they release your favorite song of the week. This is a soulful, reflective country ballad and Jamie Lynn's voice has this beautiful sadness to it! 33. The Saturdays - What About Us

This was truly the definition of a grower for me. When it first came out I absolutely did not like it! I thought it was dreadful. I don't know what happened but over the summer and fall it just kept growing on me and now I love it! I think what's helped is resigning to the fact that The Saturdays are the laziest popstars of all time. They are the definition of complacent. Once you get past that you can appreciate the music for what it is. Una owns this for me, by the way!

32. Delta Goodrem - Heart Hypnotic

I love the build up throughout song and Delta's voice just shines as usual. What really makes the song for me is the final instrumental and the outro section that seems to be almost a completely different song! Something about it just works.

31. After School - First Love

After School do sexy so well! Structurally and soundwise this song seems a little too similar to Sistar19's "Gone (Not around any longer)" (which you will see up ahead!). However they manage to make it work for them! My only critique is that unlike previous releases the individual girls don't really get any stand out parts to sing for themselves they all kind of blend into each other.

I never really liked any Sistar songs but their subunit completely blew me away with this sexy Saxophone laced single. And anyone that claims to not be hypnotized by the iconic table booty swaying is lying! This song is just so sultry and catchy. The breakdown is just epic! Who needs a third chorus when you can just deconstruct the song instead!!

Mariah tried so hard this year, but none of her singles seemed to stick on the charts. I don't know why that is becuase "hashtagBeautiful" is pretty epic. The production is lovely and it's overall such a soothing song! That said, the hashtag is laughable!

Somehow Nabiha can keep delivering inventive, quirky, unique singles. "Mind The Gap" is no exception. It's such a feel good, positive song. And the bass dropping for a seconds after the bridge is just genius!

This is such a smart, dark pop song that reminds me of Cocknbullkid's Adulthood album with it's dark lyrics and cheery music. The song really makes you think about jaded people and how they weren't always that way.

26. Fifth Harmony - Miss Movin' On

It seemed like an eternity waiting for X Factor US 2nd runners up Fifth Harmony to release their debut single. I'll be honest, I expected something more groundbreaking. But that's not to say the the song isn't damn good!! I wish Ally (my favorite and official spirit animal) had a solo verse; She sings the second verse during their live performances but not on the actual song for some reason. Regardless, this song was my total break up anthem all summer!!

Iiris truly has a sound that is all her own. The only way I can describe it is Bjork meets K-Pop. Tigerhead is a stunning song and the bridge is just insanely amazing! "If it's a sign that you're waiting for/baby this is it" is an incredible line!

The queens of K-Pop can seemingly do no wrong. This catchy number is taken from their third Japanese album! While I like the entire song I have to say my favorite part is SooYoung's iconic "yeah"!

Charlotte Church released not 1 but 2 amazing eps this year. They were part TWO and THREE of her EP series she's been releasing. "Water Tower" is taken from Three and it is such a stunning, ethereal musical experience. I can't wait to see how she'll continue to experiment in the new year!

This was such a welcomed return to form by Fantasia! Love the attitude and vibe of this song!

Good to see Mariah and Delta top 40 :D I agree about What About Us, it made no impact on my chart whatsoever until I started hearing it on the radio and suddenly grew to love it.

This is the second single from Gloria's De Pelicula album and such a gorgeous, sad ballad. I related to the first pre-chorus way more than I'd care to admit! Her voice is definitely not for everyone, but her ability to convey emotion and her talents as a songwriter are undeniable!

I know I throw around this word a lot but this song can only be described as a masterpiece! It was such an amazing surprise as I was expecting nothing but dance songs on Cher's new album. "Sirens" instead harkens back to to her more rockier days but with a softer side.

Lea Michele was never really on my radar but I'm nearing full on stanning mode for her!! In a disastrous year for pop it was nice to get this anthem 3 weeks before the year ends!

The leaked demo of this song was the first thing I've ever liked from Ciara. It's such a fresh, interesting sound and it just works so well!! Even Mariah's lesser American Idol co judge's rap is tolerable. This song just inspires me to be productive!

Britney promised her Britney Jean would be extremely personal it instead turned out to be a generic mess. The one song that hints at any sort of deeper look into Brit Brit's life is "Perfume." I find the theme of insecurity so fascinating and I love it in this song. I also love the self awareness in the lyrics.

Basic as they may be, I cannot stop stanning Blush. Given their super low budg status, it is truly outstanding how good their music is! I've given up any hope for ever getting a full Jessica Sutta album, and that's a shame because "Again" is amazing. It is both dark and uplifting. I love the theme of the cycle of bad choices. Her voice in the bridge is soo good, I never knew she had those pipes!!

6. Charlotte Church - Glitterbombed

Charlotte Church has truly developed into one of the most interesting artists of this year. Her sound is ever changing and releasing her music in a series of EPs really allows you to see and hear her evolution. "Glitterbombed" pushes Charlotte's newfound alternative sound from EP ONE even further out. And yet, somehow it is still pop at it's best! The reverse vocals at the end of the song are completely unexpected but oh so interesting to hear!

5. Laura Pausini & Kylie Minogue - Limpio

This was one of the most unexpected and brilliant collaborations of the year. There are several versions of this song other there (Italian/English, Spanglish, Laura Pausini solo), but the Spanish version reigns supreme. Kylie's Spanish singing is actually quite good and I love hearing her voice on a rockier song. Laura's voice is gorgeous as usual! Their voices blend so well together. Everything about this song just works!

2. Girls' Generation - I Got A Boy

What kind of flawlessness is this song??? Listening to this for the first time is truly overwhelming! You're just hit in the face with this blast of music. Before you can process what you're hearing, the song moves on to a completely different tempo and sound! I'd describe it as a symphony with all it's different sections, movements and choruses. It is unique, chaotic and truly forward thinking. Released on January 1st 2013, "I Got A Boy" truly set the bar extremely high for the rest of the year!

This song is number 1 despite what this group and their mismanaged as f*** year have put me (and all their fans) through. I mean, they couldn't even put a f***ing cover artwork on their single. Their lyric video? Fan made! At this point I'm not even expecting an album. That said, this song is flawless. Siobhan truly owns this song for me! Her voice is so ethereal. Their harmonies are, of course, life changing! The song just builds up perfectly and the lyrics are sublime!! But seriously, girls, get your shit together!! Your fans are two "soon"s away from a mass suicide pact!
