We all know by now that Highway To Hell has gone top ten but does it 'really count' given the nature of the sales? Is Heatseeker still their biggest hit or are we just happy to have a top 10 hit?

The trouble is, if you start discounting songs like this, it starts to get silly. After all, by the same logic you would say Rage Against The Machine haven't had a "proper" number one. That being the case, what was number one at Christmas 2009?

I agree. They've had a genuine top ten hit but it probably isn't indicative of theirs or the songs popularity. Many took issue with RATMs and I wondered how people feel about this one as it's arguably more deserved

I'd say (regardless as to what position it charted), 'Highway To Hell' is much more recognised track to the average person anyway. 'Heatseeker' was only a "bigger" hit in statistical terms. There's a reason why it was chosen as the campaign song after all.

Same goes for Rage, 'Killing Of The Name' has always been their definitive track afaik, the campaign just corrected the statistic that it was not their signature hit by giving it a higher peak!

Yes, Highway To Hell, along with Whole Lotta Rosie, Back In Black and You Shook Me All Night Long is regarded widely as one of Rock's classics and easiy warrants being their biggest hit. This is one of the reasons why I generally endorse the 'let's make it a hit' campaigns whilst others seem them as falsifying the charts (which they kind of do when people download mutiple copies). That's not to take anything away from Heatseeker either as AC/DC where at their most commercially popular singleswise in the UK in '87/88.

I get what you mean. You just don't know how many people bought the song off iTunes because they genuinely liked it and how many merely wanted to keep X Factor off the number one but would never buy it without this campaign :(

Great news plus its great that it is a Bon song and not a Brian one, Bon with all due respect to Brian was on a whole different level to Brian

i can never understand with these campaigns why they dont pick a christmas song to make christmas number one, like slade or wizzard. whoever 'they' are  how do these campaigns start?

I love the fact that AC/DC finally have a top ten hit. So overdue!

As for a Xmas song I say we give The Ramones a new peak by getting Merry Christmas (I Don't Want To Fight Tonight) into the top 10 next year.
