274. "Mas que nada" Sérgio Mendes feat. Black Eyed Peas (2 weeks)

Reached #1: 18 June 2006

UK Chart Peak: #6

Originally recorded in 1963, "Mas que nada" rapidly became Brazilian musician Sérgio Mendes's signature song and has since been convered multiple times for acts like Dizzy Gillespie, Al Jarreau and Miriam Makeba. Version by Echobeatz and Tanga Girls had entered my chart in 1998 and 2003, respectively.

However a re-recoding featuring The Black Eyed Peas introduced this Brazilian music standard to a whole new generation and became a worldwide hit, reaching #1 in Brazil and the Netherlands. It was the Black Eyed Peas's second #1 in my chart and Mendes became the third Brazilian artist to top my chart.

275. "Unfaithful" Rihanna (7 weeks)

Reached #1: 2 July 2006

UK Chart Peak: #2

Rihanna had already a few hits in my chart but "Unfaithful" was the first to take her to #1, and did so in style, breaking the ten year-old record for most weeks at #1, a record yet to be broken and that would only be equaled once. It was also the #1 song in my year-end chart of 2006.

Written by Ne-Yo and Stargate, the song received praise for approaching the topic of self-confessed female unfaithfulness, rarely approached in pop songs. The song was #1 in Canada and Switzerland and #2 in the UK, Australia, Austria, Wallon Belgium, Germany, Ireland and Norway.

Nine years after topping my chart with "I'll be missing you" back when he was known as Puff Daddy, P. Diddy returend to the topspot again.

His 2006 album "Press Play" notoriously featured a big array of female guest vocalists like Christina Aguilera, Keyshia Cole, Ciara, Brandy, Mary J. Blige and Nicole Scherzinger who thus scored her first (and so far only) #1 hit outside the Pussycat Dolls.

281. "Jump" Madonna (1 week)

Reached #1: 29 October 2006

UK Chart Peak: #9

The "Confessions on the dancefloor" era proved to be Madonna's most successful in my chart as the album spawned three #1 hits (and it could have been four since "Get together" spent three weeks at #2 locked behind "Unfaithful").

Unlike "Hung up" and "Sorry" though, "Jump" just stayed a week at #1 and rapidly went down the chart. The track was also a #1 in Hungary and Italy.

Reached #1: 5 November 2006

UK Chart Peak: #11

Sure, she already had a couple of #1 collaborations afterwards, but Christina Aguilera was yet to have a #1 on her own in my chart since her debut with "Genie in a bottle". Seven years later, she finally did with "Hurt" which has rapidly went down as one highlight of her repertoir and a talent-show hopefuls' favorite for their auditioning songs.

"Hurt" was #1 in Switzerland and #2 in Austria, Germany, Netherlands, Slovakia and Sweden.

Originally a hidden track of their previous album AM/FM, "Fácil de Entender" became the title track and lead single from The Gift's 2006 live album. It was also their first ever single in Portuguese and became their fourth #1 in my chart.

Coincidentally, lead singer Sónia Tavares is the current significant other of the lead singer of Moonspell, whose single "Luna" was knocked out of #1 by this song. They had a son in 2011.

While "Chasing cars" was still in my chart's top 40 (peak #5), Snow Patrol snatched the Christmas #1 with "Set the fire to the third bar", featuring Martha Wainwright. It remains their only #1 to date and Martha's sole appearance in my chart (her brother Rufus Wainwright has had three top 40 hits in it).

In 2010, the song had brief revival due to its use on the trailer to the filme "Dear John", re-entering the charts in the UK and the USA.

290. "Shine" Take That (2 weeks)

Reached #1: 18 March 2007

UK Chart Peak: #1

Twelve years after being #1 with "Back for good", Take That were once again at the top of my chart with "Shine". This of course broke the record of the biggest timespan between Number Ones in my chart.

Lily Allen's 2009 song "Who'd have known" used an interpolation of "Shine" and credited Take That in it. For the same reason, Take That are credited in T-Pain 2011 hit "5 O'Clock" as it samples "Who'd have known" even if the sample does not contain the "Shine" interpolation.

"Beautiful liar" in the UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Ireland, Italy, Spain and Switzerland.

The track was also Shakira's fifth #1 in my chart.
