119. "Show me the meaning of being lonely" Backstreet Boys (1 week)

Reached #1: 17 February 2000

UK Chart peak: #3

Third consecutive #1 (the sixth overall and their last date) of the Backstreet Boys. The song was also #1 in Canada and Romania.

The music video shows the boys reflecting on the subject of death: Brian Littrell's open heart surgery, A.J.'s high school girlfriend who died on a car crash, Kevin's deceased father, Howie's sister who died of lupus and the deceased Swedish producer Denniz Pop.

Interessante alguns dos #1's tugas. A minha favorita dos Santamaria foi "A Voar", em 2000.

Cant wait to see the rest :)

Obrigado. O ano de 2004 foi particularmente fértil em #1's tugas.

120. "Life's too short" Lightning Seeds (2 weeks)

Reached #1: 24 February 2000

UK Chart peak: #27

Believe it or not this was Lightning Seeds' only entry ever in my chart (not even the seminal "Three Lions" did that!)

So it's even more remarkable that this one made all the way to #1, but for me it still sounds amazing and it's a shame that it never made it to the UK top 20, at the very least.

121. "Unforgivable sinner" Lene Marlin (2 weeks)

Reached #1: 10 March 2000

UK Chart peak: #13

Lene Marlin's "Playing My Game" was the album of the year 2000, as I was the proud owner of a copy and I'd played it to death. In result, Lene Marlin became the first artist ever to have three songs in my top 10 in the same week, with "Where I'm Headed", "Sitting Down Here" and "Unforgivable Sinner" sitting at #5, #6 and #7 that week.

But out of those three, "Unforgivable Sinner" was the only one who made it all the way to #1. It was also #1 in her native Norway. Lene recently spoke publicly about her problems dealing with her sudden success and its aftermath, that even led her to some suicide attempts.

122. "American Pie" Madonna (2 weeks)

Reached #1: 24 March 2000

UK Chart peak: #1

Madonna saw her coming back to the top of my chart with her controversial abridged cover from Don McLean's epic classic "American Pie". The track also hit #1 in the UK, Australia, Canada, Finland, Germany (her first #1 there since the 80's!), Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

It was featured in both her "Music" album and in the soundtrack to her film "The Next Best Thing". Her co-star Rupert Everett provided the back-up vocals.

123. "Be with you" Enrique Iglesias (3 non-consecutive weeks)

Reached #1: 7 April 2000, 26 May 2000

This went on to became one of the biggest hits of the year in my chart. After two weeks on top, it kept on having such success that it claimed a third week at #1 five weeks later. It would be #2 on my year-end chart.

Sadly and although it was a worldwide hit, even hitting #1 in the US, "Be With You" was never released in the UK because the previous single "Rhythm Divine" missed the UK top 40. It would take Enrique two more years so it could emulate in Brittania the success he was enjoying anywhere else.

124. "Join me in death" H.I.M. (4 weeks)

Reached #1: 21 April 2000

Finnish rock band H.I.M. (His Infernal Majesty) became huge in Continental Europe with this sumptuous track that topped chart not only in their native Finland (where is the 15th biggest selling single of all time), Germany and Yugoslavia. It was also #1 on my year-end chart, and one of the two longest-running #1s of the year.

HIM would only start to hit the UK charts a couple of years later, so "Join Me In Death" never charted there, but

did chart at #53 in the UK!

125. "Oops...I did it again" Britney Spears (1 week)

Reached #1: 19 May 2000

UK Chart peak: #1

The title track of Britney's second album stretched her run of sucessive #1 hits to five, a chain that was still far from being broken. It also topped the charts in the UK, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

The male voice in the infamous Titanic-inspired dialogue belongs to none other than the writer/producer Max Martin.

126. "It's my life" Bon Jovi (2 weeks)

Reached #1: 2 June 2000

UK Chart peak: #3

Proving that in the new millenium, they were a tried and true force that survived the 80's hair-metal era, Bon Jovi had a huge it with the first single from their album "Crush". "It's my life" was #1 in Austria, Flemish Begium, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland.

After acting opposite him in the "U-571" film, Jon Bon Jovi handpicked actor Will Estes to be the protagonist of the music video.

Reached #1: 16 June 2000

UK Chart peak: #1

After guest starring on garage seminal hit "Re-rewind the crowd say Bo Selecta", Craig David was ready for stardom with its first single, that topped the UK chart in a week where the top 6 was entirely consisted of new entries.

In 2009, BBC Radio placed this song at #93 in their list of UK Top 100 Songs of the Decade.

128. "Toca's Miracle" Fragma (1 week)

Reached #1: 30 June 2000

UK Chart peak: #1

Mashing up German dance group's "Toca Me" with Coco Star's "I Need a Miracle" (which were both UK top 40 hits), "Toca's Miracle" became one of the definite dance hits of the year.

A 2008 release with new mixes of the track hit #8 in my chart.

129. "It feels so good" Sonique (2 non-consecutive weeks)

Reached #1: 7 July 2000, 28 July 2000

UK Chart peak: #1

Originally released in 1998 (where it peaked at #24 in the UK), "It Feels So Good" became an unexpected hit in America where it made to the top 10, prompting a new release in 2000, which topped the charts in the UK and Norway.

In the crazy year of 2000 where there seemed to be a new UK Number One every week, the track was able to stay three weeks on top, therefore making Sonique the first British female artist to have a record spend more than a fortnight at #1 since Kate Bush back in 1978.

130. "To give" Silence 4 (2 weeks)

Reached #1: 14 July 2000

The first single from Silence 4's second (and last) album, it became the band's fifth consecutive #1 in my chart.

This video is credited for a boost of federated athletes of the sport of synchronized swimming in Portugal in the early 2000's.

131. "Wicked game" HIM (1 week)

Reached #1: 4 August 2000

Following the success of "Join Me In Death", HIM scored their second #1 in my chart with this cover version of Chris Isaak's 1990 hit.

This is notably one of the most paradigmatic non-number ones in my chart, dropping to #9 on its second week and vanishing out of the top 40 after five weeks on chart.

You love Britney, can't wait "Lucky" (my # 1 song from 2000 with 9 weeks at # 1) result.

We shared the most her singles as # 1s : "Baby One More Time", "Sometimes", "Born To Make You Happy" and "Oops... I Did It Again".

From Lene's singles I prefer "Sitting Down Here". Want to believe in Geri's # 1 solo single.

Yeah, back in the turn of the millenium Britney was the supreme queen of my chart.

Geri does have a solo hit in my chart. ;)

132. "I turn to you" Melanie C (3 weeks)

Reached #1: 11 August 2000

UK Chart Peak: #1

Miss Chisholm not only became the first Spice Girl to have a solo #1 hit, she was the first artist ever to have #1s in my chart both in a group and as a solo artist. (But some others have done the same since). It is her most successful solo single internationally, hitting #1 also in Austria, Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.

Melanie C never had another solo #1 yet in my chart, but she almost did it in 2006, when "The first day of my life" hit #2 (and she performed Portugal several times that year). But as a Spice Girl, the #1's were not over yer.

134. "Gotta tell you" Samantha Mumba (3 weeks)

Reached #1: 8 September 2000

UK Chart Peak: #2

Irish popstar Samantha Mumba scored a #1 in my chart with her debut hit "Gotta Tell You", holding off the topspot from Modjo's "Lady (Hear Me Tonight)", one of the most successful songs on my chart ever not to reach #1.

"Gotta Tell You" topped the charts in Ireland and New Zealand and made it top #4 in the US, which is always quite something for an European artist. Mumba would have five more top 20 hits in my chart.
