Posted December 31, 201311 yr A couple of years ago I did what I hoped would be an annual awards 'ceremony but I felt it didn't work as I'd hoped. However I was quite keen on the idea of a'Hall Of Fame' for those acts who BJ posters think rank as the most important. So I'm going to revive that part and see what happens. The inaugural inductees were:- Foo Fighters Led Zeppelin Nine Inch Nails Nirvana Patti Smith ...and I'd like to bung in another 5 or so. So the premise is to nominate 5 acts each from the fields of Indie, Rock, Alternative that you feel most thoroughly deserve to be viewed as giants of the scene. I'm going to impose a timeframe of at least 10 years since their debut to allow for a proper perspective of their greatness to be taken into account. Only one nomination per act is required for consideration I'll close nominations on 17th Jan at 23.59 until then feel free to discuss various artists worth or lack of.
December 31, 201311 yr Author My nominations and why - AC/DC - 40 years in the business, a host of recognised classics and now a tope 10 hit too Metallica - Probably the single most popular Rock band still active right now. Helped to break Thrash Metal and then evolved into something far more populist but still heavy enough. Undoubtedly legends (even if their not as good as Slayer) Black Sabbath - Doesn't need explaining does it Sex Pistols - Like Black Sabbath they inspired countless others and released a classic debut album to boot Killing Joke - I doubt there'll be a flood of people suggesting them but without these guys Industrial was a bunch of avant garde knob twiddlers and oddballs like Throbbing Gristle and Current 93. Industrial Rock music was born here. Their influence should not be underestimated
December 31, 201311 yr Right, let's try this. Bruce Springsteen - I'd say he qualifies for the forum and no one has ever had a run of five albums like he did between 1975 and 1984. Masterful. Ramones - American punk has, to me anyway, been more interesting than ours for a long time and they were the spark. The Clash - a band that almost everyone can agree on, united the US and UK and continue to influence today. Muse - the last of the guitar heroes, never lacking in ambition and have built up a formidable body of work. Queen - there's a reason that Greatest Hits continues to attract new fans
January 12, 201411 yr Author I'm opening this out to include Indie given that the forums have now been merged. Seems a good opportunity. If anyone wishes to alter their nominations feel free.
January 12, 201411 yr Foo Fighters? Blur The Cure New Order Depeche Mode REM (are we allowed to nominate Kate?) Edited January 12, 201411 yr by AnthonyT
January 13, 201411 yr So if someone already nominated Pink Floyd, I don't need to nominate them? My nominations: Aerosmith Jimi Hendrix Blue Öyster Cult Harmonium Syd Barrett (as a solo artist) *Harmonium was a classic rock band from Québec and probably the best band in Québec's history.
January 13, 201411 yr Author Foo Fighters? Blur The Cure New Order Depeche Mode REM (are we allowed to nominate Kate?) Foo Fighters were a popular choice first time out. Can't say I agree but the site has spoken. As for Kate. Hmm. She's neither Indie or Rock but can generously be called Alternative at times (The Dreaming mainly). If someone were to nominate her I wouldn't veto it unless there's an outcry. The site will decide if she warrants a placing anyway.
January 13, 201411 yr Author So if someone already nominated Pink Floyd, I don't need to nominate them? No, you don't need to. They're going on the list already
January 18, 201411 yr Author This is now closed for nominations. Some great choices in there too. This will be hard.
January 19, 201411 yr Foo Fighters? Blur The Cure New Order Depeche Mode REM (are we allowed to nominate Kate?) YES YES YES!!! The Killers Kasabian Arctic Monkeys Joy Division Björk - not sure if I can nominate her, but I consider her alternative. If this is not a right choice then feel free to not considerate for nomination.
February 12, 201411 yr I think the fact Foo Fighters are in here is why the Hall of Fame idea didn't work out as well as you hoped. You might as well induct Green Day and The Offspring.
