Posted December 31, 201311 yr Hi all, I was thinking that something we haven't done on here before is a big general countdown of Buzzjack's all time favourite Eurovision songs. The only criteria to vote is that they have to have been a Eurovision entry since the contest's inception, doesn't matter if they didn't qualify for the final. Perhaps we could each vote for our top 5/10/20 (max) songs with 20 points for our top choice, 1 point for our 20th choice, and then amass the votes into a countdown at the end. We could rundown a top 50 or top 100 depending on how many different songs are nominated (there are like 1400 different songs to choose from!). We could all submit an optional top 5 'hate chart' too as an extra idea perhaps? I don't actually have the time myself at the moment to compile the votes or do the countdown (will gladly vote of course!), but would anybody be interested in hosting/running this?
December 31, 201311 yr I did the ultimate ESC song ting a couple of years back with Ani Lorak winning yay. Anyone still remembers this? :'( Sadly it's going to be heavily 2009-2013 dominated :( JUST choosing 20 songs sounds SO VERY TOUGH.
December 31, 201311 yr Author I did the ultimate ESC song ting a couple of years back with Ani Lorak winning yay. Anyone still remembers this? :'( Sadly it's going to be heavily 2009-2013 dominated :( JUST choosing 20 songs sounds SO VERY TOUGH. Wasn't that a best of the decade countdown rather than a 'best of all time'? This one would literally just be a countdown - no semis or final or anything, just a points based ranking. I was just inspired by listening to the ESC Radio top 250 (Gina G scrapes into the top 150, Alcohol Is Free top 70, go figure...). I know people like you, me, AlexRange, Tirren and some others will vote outside of the past five years so it could work, if somebody was willing to/had the time to do it. Or else it could be left for a future date.
December 31, 201311 yr I really like the idea and I should have plenty of time to host over the next month or so if you want me to do it! Whoever hosts though I'll definitely be voting although my votes will mainly be recent entries. :kink:

Hopefully it will see a decent turnout to give the best possible representation!

December 31, 201311 yr Before I post the thread for this, will the charts be submitted by PM? And are people interested in a "hate chart" or not?
December 31, 201311 yr Author Before I post the thread for this, will the charts be submitted by PM? And are people interested in a "hate chart" or not? Yes, by PM as when the countdown comes it may look as if some surprise entries pop up! The latter isn't compulsory, was just a possible idea.

Yes, that's what I was thinking too! :D I'll see if anyone else replies saying they'd be interested in a "Hate chart", if not I'll probably just do it anyway as I'm sure it'll be interesting!
January 1, 201411 yr I'd be ALL FOR some EDUCATION prior because there are some serious #bangerz outside of the last five years that should frankly be COMPULSORY KNOWLEDGE
January 1, 201411 yr I am quite GRATEFUL for Moopy's competitions helping said education (before the site suddenly had a bit of extended downtime), means I have a great idea for what's good for at least the 90s as well as the 00s. Other people should have at least the basics of good stuff outside the last few years. I HOPE.
January 1, 201411 yr I think for the 80s everyone AT LEAST ought to know the following: Avi Toledano - Hora (Israel 1982) Carola - Främling (Sweden 1983) Ofra Haza - Hi (Israel 1983) - just TRUST ME when I say that this is ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS EVER. You may not realise it on first listen - I didn't - but IT IS. Sophie Carle - 100% d'amour (Luxembourg 1984) - BANGER Bobbysocks - La det swinge (Norway 1985) - SCHLAGER BANGER. Makes Take Me To Your Heaven look RESTRAINED. Kikki Danielsson - Bra vibrationer (Sweden 1985) Sherisse Laurence - L'amour de ma vie (Luxembourg 1986) Sandra Kim - J'aime la vie (Belgium 1986) Liliane St. Pierre - Soldiers of Love (Belgium 1987) Celine Dion - Ne partez pas sans moi (Switzerland 1988) Pan - Bana bana (Turkey 1989) Birthe Kjær - Vi maler byen rød (Denmark 1989) - so schlagertastic your teeth will ROT And I could do the 90s too but frankly the list is so long I know NONE OF YOU WOULD BOTHER
January 1, 201411 yr "Terminal 3, flight's on TIIIIIME" to storm to victory please. (Or 'Dinle'!) Terminal 3 is SHIT. WORST YEAR EVER (And Dinle is NICE but if we're going for ethnobangerz from '97 it's all about MANA MOU)
January 1, 201411 yr Maybe after this we could do a truly educational one ESC per week kinda thing? Everyone would listen to songs from one year and vote, and same next week.
January 1, 201411 yr Author Maybe after this we could do a truly educational one ESC per week kinda thing? Everyone would listen to songs from one year and vote, and same next week. I doubt many people would participate in anything older than the 90s, and it would probably need a longer voting window than a week. I must admit that my knowledge is very ropey pre mid 80s save for the big hitters. I tuned into the entire ESC Radio top 250 in hope of a thorough education but most songs were from 2009-2013 (it's not just Buzzjack ). As for the worst ever entries, Montenegro, Belgium and Latvia have all contributed a lot to that hall of fame...
January 1, 201411 yr Maybe after this we could do a truly educational one ESC per week kinda thing? Everyone would listen to songs from one year and vote, and same next week. I'd love that, but the problem is that so long as we're dealing in 20+ songs a week I can't see many people taking part. I'm loathe to take the idea directly for obvious reasons, but Moopy did make it a little more accessible by doing it by country over a decade - so for example, finding the favourite Maltese entry between 1992 and 2002, finding the favourite Bosnian one in the same time period etc. Obviously it takes AGES, and I'd still be inclined to make it shorter so as not to scare off the newbies (2000-2007 would be a pretty good level covering what I imagine the average Buzzjacker wouldn't be familiar with). Even then though I'm not sure how many would take part.
January 1, 201411 yr Aside from the big hitters my Eurovision knowledge doesn't extend much far back than 2003 but I am willing to be educated!
