Released in February 2011 it only emerged with commercial success in 2013 when it went number one in Germany, 7 in the US and a big hit in South America …it only peaked at 42 in the UK.

2nd appearance on this rundown for the US bachata singer. “Darte un beso” has amassed over 165 million youtube views since July 2013 and its success will continue into 2014.

2 weeks at the top of my chart in March for the Romanian pop singer-songwriter, model, actress and dancer. The song was top in Romania for several weeks.

 

 

36. How long will I love you (Ellie Goulding)

 

Cover of a song by the Waterboys it was never a commercial success for the Irish band but has been as the BBC Children in Need song of 2013 for Ellie Goulding.

 

 

35. Applause (Lady Gaga)

 

First appearance in my chart for Lady Gaga since “Bad Romance” was number one in 2009. “Poker face” was also number one in 2008 and “Just dance” and “Papparazzi” both charted.

 

 

34. Marabou (Antonia)

 

Highest placed Romanian production in this year’s rundown the song was number one in both Romania and Bulgaria. Marabou appears to be a somewhat obscure island in the Phillipines.

 

 

33. La La La (Naughty Boy ft Sam Smith)

 

This song by Shahid Khan better known as Naughty Boy was along with Ellie Goulding’s “Burn” ,which did not chart for me, and Passenger’s “Let her go” ,6 on my 2012 year end chart the biggest UK music exports as singles for 2013.

 

 

32. Somewhere only we know (Lily Allen)

 

Cover of a Keane song and used on a John Lewis advert got to number one in the UK.

 

 

31. Stolen Dance (Milky Chance)

 

German duo who recorded this song in 2012 but it emerged as a German number one in 2013.

 

 

30. Ho hey (Lumineers)

 

Released in June 2002 it was a sleeper and was a big US and international hit well into 2013.

 

 

29. Jubel (Klingande)

 

Was top for 1 week in my chart in December and was a German number one for the French band who have had only modest success to date in their homeland.

 

 

28. Animals (Martin Garrix)

 

Entered my chart in August peaking at 2 for the young Dutch DJ who has had a pan European hit with this track having over 170 million youtube views.

 

 

27. Hey brother (Avicci)

 

Entered my chart in September and topped it for 1 week in October. The 3rd track from the album “True” to be released.

 

 

26. Keyfi yolunda aski sonunda (Yalin)

 

This song was used on an advert for Cornetto in Turkey accompanied by a short endearing film about a teenage romance.

 

 

25. Alingo (P Square)

 

Reached the top of my chart early in the year for the Nigerian twins with both “Alingo” and “Personally” becoming two of the biggest pan African hits of 2013 in addition doing well in the Carribean although “Personally” did not chart for me.

 

 

24. Titanium (Jahmene Douglas)

 

Cover of the David Guetta track which was a major international hit in 2012. The 2012 X Factor runner up performed “Titanium” on the show and recorded it in 2013.

 

 

23. Sugar man (Rodriguez)

 

The 70 year old folk singer attracted interest due to a US academy winning documentary film about his life. Reached number one in May in my chart 35 years after its original release.

 

 

22. Read all about it (part III) (Emeli Sande)

 

Sequel to the 2011 UK number one “Read all about it” by Professor Green featuring Emeli Sande . It was sung by Emeli Sande at the following year’s London Olympics and used to good effect as the soundtrack on the 2013 Britain’s Got Talent winning Shadow Dance act. It was a UK hit in 2012 reaching number 3 but it went on to be successful in various European countries right through 2013.

 

 

21. Dear darlin' (Olly Murs)

 

Two weeks at the top of my chart in August for the 2009 UK X Factor runner up. This has been Olly Murs only appearance in my chart. The song has become a major hit in Germany and Australia but did not become his 5th UK number one.
