20. Rude (Magic)

 

2 weeks top of my chart in the last half of December. A big hit in Oceania for the Canadian band and destined to be a big international hit in 2014.

 

 

19. Royals (Lorde)

 

Entered my chart at the beginning of March when it was just becoming a hit in New Zealand for the 16 year old singer. It was number one for 1 week in April in my chart. It has been number one on both sides of the Atlantic.

 

 

18. Soberbio (Romeo Santos)

 

The US bachata singer released 7 tracks as successful singles from his 2011 album “Formula 1”. One of them “Mi Santa” was number one for me in 2012 and another is yet to appear on this rundown. “Soberbio” charted in South America into 2013.

 

 

17. Made to love (John Legend)

 

First entry into my chart since “Ordinary People” in 2005 for John Legend. “Made to love” was the 3rd best video of the year for me.

 

 

16. Say Something (A Great Big World ft Christina Aguilera)

 

Number one for 2 weeks in December. The song made an impact following its performance with Christina Aguilera on the Voice in the US and is becoming a big international hit into 2014.

 

 

15. Show das poderosas (Anitta)

 

Number one for 2 weeks in my chart in August and number 2 on the Brazilian 2013 year end chart. The video provoked numerous parodies but not as many as a certain Miley Cyrus song still to appear on this chart.

 

 

14. The Mother we share (Chvrches)

 

2 weeks at number one in November on my chart for this Scottish band. It only peaked at 38 in the UK but was number one on the Japanese overseas chart.

 

 

13. Formidable (Stromae)

 

Song clearly inspired by Jacques Brel. For me this was the video of the year as Stromae plays a drunk on the streets of Brussels with unknowing members of the public and the Police playing their part as they were being filmed by hidden cameras. The song was number one in France, Belgium and Holland.

 

 

12. Another love (Tom Odell)

 

This is the top placed UK song on my year end chart having been number one for 4 weeks in February and March. It reached 10 in the UK charts in June but was a bigger hit in Holland and Belgium.

 

 

11. Hoy tengo ganas de ti (Alejandro Fernandez / Christina Aguilera)

 

Originally recorded by Miguel Gallardo in 1977 this song was rerecorded in 2013 for a Mexican soap opera and is the second song on this rundown to feature Christina Aguilera…. No “Feel this moment” on this chart. “Hoy tengo ganas de ti” was number one for me for 3 weeks in June.

 

 

10. Get Lucky (Daft Punk ft Pharrell)

 

This was the second biggest international hit of the year and was kept off the top by the biggest which is yet to come on my year end chart. It was also kept off the top of the US chart by the same song but was number one in the UK and most of Europe.

 

 

9. Hold on we're going home (Drake)

 

Drake has had over 50 songs on the US R and B charts and 13 number ones on the US Rap chart. However “Hold on we’re going home” is the rapper’s first appearance on my chart and it’s no rap song. It was 14 weeks inside my Top 10 and is Drake’s most successful track internationally.

 

 

8. Llevame contigo (Romeo Santos)

 

Topped my chart for 2 weeks in April and was the 2nd song of Romeo Santos to top my chart following “Mi Santa” in 2012.

 

 

7. Wrecking ball (Miley Cyrus)

 

Top of my chart for 2 weeks in September and October this has been a huge global hit and the video has been even bigger with over 515 million youtube views excluding the numerous parodies the most popular of which alone has inexplicably over 92 million youtube views.

 

 

6. Take me to church (Hozier)

 

This song by Irish singer Hozier topped my chart for 4 weeks in October and November and has been number one in Ireland. The video for me is the second best of the year behind Stromae’s “Formidable” and I imagine that both cost very little to make.

 

 

5. Wake me up (Avicci ft Aloe Blacc)

 

One of three songs to sell over a million in the UK in 2013 and was massive throughout the world. It was top for 2 weeks in my chart in July and August.

 

 

4. Limbo (Daddy Yankee)

 

“Limbo” was top of my chart for 2 weeks in March and April and was the second biggest Latin song of 2013 behind Marc Anthony’s “Vivir mi vida”, a cover of Khaled’s “C’est la vie” which was on my 2012 year end chart. “Limbo” has an extravagant video and the song has over 225 million youtube views to date excluding the parodies, unofficial cheorography and remix videos.

 

 

3. All of me (John Legend)

 

By the year end this love ballad had spent 13 weeks inside my Top 10 and is the second song from his album “Love in the future” to feature in this year end chart. By the year end the song was number one in Australia, Holland and Belgium.

 

 

2. Propuesta indecente (Romeo Santos)

 

Track released in July from the American singer’s forthcoming album “Formula 2”. “Propuesta indecente” mixes bachata and tango and was top of my chart for 4 weeks in August and September. Total youtube views exceed 175 million by the end of 2013.

1. Blurred Lines (Robin Thicke ft T.I./Pharrell)

 

The biggest selling international hit of 2013 is also number one on my year end chart. It topped my chart for 5 weeks in May and June. Robin Thicke appeared on my 2012 year end chart at 43 with “Love after war” and Pharrell makes 3 appearances on my chart with “Get Lucky” at 10 and “Happy” at 69.

Great #1, it defines the year like few other songs and I still love it! Brilliant to see Hozier doing so well too, it MUST smash here, it deserves to be heard and the video deserves to be seen.
