Posted January 3, 201411 yr ^_^ Top 25 Albums: #25-21 #25: Lucy Spraggan - Join The Club So Lucy was one of my favourites on X Factor 2012, and I was gutted when she left. So I was pleased that I was able to hear her album in the end. Apparently she describes her music style as "A-Flop" ("a mixture of acoustic, folk and hip-hop").. I'm going to restrain myself from commenting on that, BUT I will say I enjoyed her album for the most part. The only problem is that it all kind of sounds the same, and I haven't listened to it as much as I'd like to, so I can't remember much of it to properly. Which is why it's only #25. Favourite tracks: Someone, Tea & Toast, Lighthouse, The Tourist, Wait For Me, Let Go, Last Night (Beer Fear), Paper Dreams, Butterflies, Safe #24: Lady Gaga - ARTPOP So, I was a major Gaga loon during The Fame/Fame Monster days, and I listened to those albums non-stop back in 2009/2010. When Born This Way came, I was really disappointed with it at first, but it over the summer it grew on me massively, and ultimately became my favourite album of 2011. However in 2013, ARTPOP was in many ways a disappointment to me. I found the album kind of messy, noisy and all over the place. I feel like the songs just don't grab you in the same way. And I feel like she's drowned out by the production in some places. I've tried to let it all grow on me over the last few months, but it really hasn't aside from one or two tracks. But in the end, I think a few good tracks is enough to place it in my top 25. Favourite tracks: Venus, G.U.Y., MANiCURE, ARTPOP, Dope, Gypsy #23: Naughty Boy - Hotel Cabana Alright, well we all know Naughty Boy has produced around 90% of Emeli Sandé's discography; and she features on no less than 7 tracks on the Deluxe Edition of this album(!). But in a strange way, I actually don't mind the Emeli overuse here. I wasn't big on La La La last year, but I actually think I like it now after all these months. Also, it's nice to know that Gabrielle still exists *-* Favourite tracks: Wonder, Hollywood, La La La, Pluto, So Strong, No One's Here To Sleep, Lifted, Top Floor #22: The Wanted - Word Of Mouth Never thought I'd rank a Wanted album ahead of Gaga, but I do! The Wanted haven't released a solid album yet in my opinion, and this one is no exception. But there's enough strong tracks here to rank it as high as #22. Battleground is my favourite of their 3 albums, though. Favourite tracks: We Own The Night, In The Middle, I Found You, Show Me Love (America), Summer Alive, Love Sewn, Glow In The Dark, Chasing The Sun #21: Selena Gomez - Stars Dance For the most part, this album sounds like a bunch of Britney and Rihanna rejects, and it's about 2 years late... But for some reason I enjoyed this album anyway. Not really sure why. I'm reminded of Dev on many tracks here. And I really liked Dev's album back in 2011(?). The bonus tracks aren't that great, though. Favourite tracks: Slow Down, Stars Dance, Come & Get It, Forget Forever, Save The Day, Write Your Name, Love Will Remember More to come later :P Edited January 3, 201411 yr by n4yr
January 3, 201411 yr Author Top 25 Albums: #20-16 #20: Tinie Tempah - Demonstration Rap albums aren't usually my thing, but I've always kinda liked Tinie. He doesn't irritate me as much as other rappers do for some reason. Though, I preferred his debut album. But I think I like Tinie's stuff mostly because of the production and the hooks by other artists.. (and don't pay attention to half his raps). Well whatever. :P Favourite tracks: Trampoline, Don't Sell Out, Mosh Pit, Children Of The Sun, Lover Not A Fighter, A Heart Can Save The World, Tears Run Day, Lost Ones, 5 Minutes, Do Till I #19: AlunaGeorge - Body Music At first, I felt this album was kinda dull and didn't like it that much, but I've grown to like it more. It is kinda samey, which brings it down a bit. I don't have a lot to say on it, but I appreciate it for what it is. The Deluxe has 19 tracks, so I get a bit bored by the end unfortunately. It isn't something I could listen to all the time. :/ Favourite tracks: Outlines, You Know You Like It, Attracting Flies, Kaleidoscope Love, Bad Idea, Lost & Found, Best Be Believing, Just A Touch, Indestructible, Put Up Your Hands #18: Tegan & Sara - Heartthrob I've never really been into Tegan & Sara before this album. I've always been meaning to listen to their older stuff but never got around to it. I haven't listened to this album as much I've wanted to, either. I really like their music style and their lyrics; how their songs come across as so personal and emotional. It has kind of an 80's vibe to it. I also like how this album is short, so there isn't much filler. Favourite tracks: Closer, Goodbye Goodbye, I Was A Fool, I'm Not Your Hero, I Couldn't Be Your Friend, Now I'm All Messed Up, Shock To Your System, I Run Empty #17: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - The Heist I know this is a 2012 album, but I would've never known who they were in 2012. Like I said about Tinie, I'm not usually a fan of rap albums, or the genre in general. But Macklemore & Ryan Lewis offer something really different. I feel the lyrics and the messages behind all of the songs is what really matters; even if I'm not familiar with every issue discussed here. Favourite tracks: Can't Hold Us, Thrift Shop, Same Love, Make The Money, Neon Cathedral, White Walls, Jimmy Iovine, Wing$, A Wake, Starting Over, Castle #16: Havana Brown - Flashing Lights The Australian DJ comes in at #16. Havana doesn't exactly create groundbreaking dance music; but I enjoy it for what it is. A few of the songs are kinda dull, but the stronger tracks make up for it. She released a couple EP's before this album, and included some of those songs on Flashing Lights, but I consider them a part of this album anyway. Favourite tracks: Warrior, We Run The Night, Big Banana, Ba*Bing, Naughty, Flashing Lights, Someone To Love, No Tomorrow, You'll Be Mine
January 3, 201411 yr Author Top 25 Albums: #15-11 #15: Chase & Status - Brand New Machine No More Idols has become one of my favourite albums of the past few years, so following that up was always going to be tough. There was just something about NMI that really grabbed me, and with this album going in a different direction than that (which I do appreciate), inevitably, I was going to find it to be a bit disappointing. But that's not to say it's bad or anything. There were plenty of gems on this, and most of the tracks have had their time to really grow on me. Favourite tracks: Gun Metal Grey, International, Count On Me, Blk & Blu, Machine Gine, Lost And Not Found, Like That, Deeper Devotion, Alive #14: Diana Vickers - Music To Make Boys Cry Diana is one of my favourite X Factor contestants ever; and she came from one of my favourite series of X Factor ever. She has a voice that you either like or hate, but regardless it's what makes her distinct. I've always liked her style. As her mentor Cheryl Cole would say, I thoroughly enjoyed myself listening to both her albums. They both have their 'meh' moments, but there's enough solid tracks on both to make up for them. It was gutting to see her do so badly in the charts in 2013, but in the end I'm glad I got to hear a second album from her. This one sounds a bit 80's yet modern. Favourite tracks: Cinderella, Lightning Strikes, Dead Heat, Boy In Paris, Mad At Me, Smoke, Blame Game #13: Rudimental - Home This was one of my most anticipated releases of the year. "Feel The Love" was my favourite song of 2012. I also loved "Not Giving In", and "Waiting All Night" was decent enough. My expectations were probably pretty high, and in the end, I'd say they were met. A few tracks I find a bit boring, but plenty of amazing ones. They definitely bring something different to Drum N Bass. Favourite tracks: Feel The Love, Right Here, Hell Could Freeze, Hide, Powerless, More Than Anything, Not Giving In, Baby, Waiting All Night, Free, Give You Up, Alien Bashment #12: Bastille - (All This) Bad Blood So this was re-released earlier this year, and I only got around to listening to the re-issue a few days ago. I'm never a big fan of albums that go on this long (25 tracks in all); but nonetheless I loved mostly everything on the original edition and that's enough for a #12 placing. I don't really like "Of The Night", but the re-issue does a few good songs on it. Favourite tracks: Pompeii, Things We Lost In The Fire, Bad Blood, Overjoyed, Weight Of Living Pt II, Icarus, Oblivion, Flaws, Daniel In The Den, The Silence, Poet, Haunt, Sleepsong #11: Jessie J - Alive J-J-Jessie J's discography has always been diverse (or all over the place, if you want to look at it that way)... but that's what kept her interesting to me. Her personality is beyond irritating, and I'll admit she's never really had a clear music style. But regardless, I liked Who You Are (album) for the most part; there was a lot of personal tracks that I felt had meaning to them; even there was more dire tracks on that one. Alive is a bit more inoffensive (maybe generic), but there's quite a few songs on here that I enjoy nonetheless. Her screeching doesn't annoy me that much for some reason. It's My Party is rather dreadful, though. Favourite tracks: Thunder, Square One, Sexy Lady, Harder We Fall, Breathe, I Miss Her, Wild, Gold, Conquer The World, Magnetic
January 3, 201411 yr Author Top 25 Albums: #10-6 #10: Union J - Union J Union J were easily my favourites on X Factor in 2012, though the finalists that year were pretty dire, and Series 9 remains my second least favourite (Series 1 is the worst tho to be honest)... Anyway, I was gutted when they only got 4th place (espeically considering who was in the top 3 :manson: ), BUT I was very eagerly awaiting what they would bring once they came off the show. And in the end, I really enjoyed their debut album. Which I didn't expect to after the 2 singles. I knew they were never going to be big with One Direction and other boybands in the picture, but it is sad to see them not do that well :( Whatever, at least I get hear Jaymi's sexy voice for 11 tracks :kink: Favourite tracks: Loving You Is Easy, Last Goodbye, Beethoven, Head In The Clouds, Save The Last dance, Amaze Me, Lucky Ones #9: Lorde - Pure Heroine / The Love Club E.P I'm going to lump them together since they're combined in some versions I've seen. Anyway, out of all the new artists in 2013, Lorde caught my attention the most. I love the stripped down nature, and the realness of the lyrics, and delves a bit into subjects other artists don't. I really enjoy the bass sound throughout; it creates a certain mood/atmosphere for the record. My only complaint is that it is a bit samey. However this album contains 3 of the biggest songs on my chart this year (and my favourite UK #1 of the year). Favourite tracks: Tennis Court, 400 Lux, Royals, Ribs, Buzzcut Season, Team, Glory And Gore, A World Alone, Bravado, Million Dollar Bills, The Love Club, Swingin' Party #8: Little Mix - Salute So looking at what's left, ultimately any of the top 8 could've been in any order, so #8 is nothing to sniff at. Regardless, this a brilliant follow-up to their debut album. I think I still prefer DNA, but Salute is not far behind. This one is a bit more R&B and less poppy than DNA, which doesn't usually suit my tastes, but I enjoy it nonetheless. I'm glad they branched into a different direction. There's just something about the way they put all their voices together that just works so well. At this point, I'd say Little Mix have become my favourite X Factor winner ever, overtaking Alexandra. Basically because Salute >>>>>> Heartbreak On Hold. If I had to rank them, I'd go Little Mix > Alexandra > Leona > Joe > Shayne > Matt > Sam B >>>>>(x1000)>>>> James > Leon > Steve Favourite tracks: Salute, Move, Little Me, Nobody Feels Like You, Towers, Competition, These Four Walls, Boy, Good Enough, A Different Beat, They Just Don't Know, Stand Down #7: Disclosure - Settle Disclosure was another new act in 2013 that really caught my attention. They have such a different/unique style to their music that I really like. However there a few that I find kinda boring, but like many others in this list, there's enough solid tracks to make up for it. Favourite tracks: When A Fire Starts To Burn, Latch, F For You, White Noise, Defeated No More, Stimulation, Grab Her!, You & Me, January, Confess To Me, Help Me Lose My Minds #6: Icona Pop - This Is... I surprisingly rather enjoyed this album. I didn't expect much from it, but since I really liked I Love It, I gave it a shot. There's some really catchy tracks here. Just something about Swedish pop I guess. Not everything is beat driven dance-pop, which is nice. Also, the fact that no song is longer than 3:20 really works in its favour. I can definitely say none of the tracks drag on. Favourite tracks: I Love It, All Night, We Got The World, Ready For The Weekend, In The Stars, Just Another Night, Hold On, Then We Kiss Edited January 3, 201411 yr by n4yr
January 4, 201411 yr Author Top 25 Albums: #5-1 #5: Sub Focus - Torus Every year I look for that one dance album that I love from start to finish. And this has ended up being one of those albums in 2013! Sub Focus have been releasing singles for this album for like forever, and so I was ecstatic when the album was finally released. I like almost everything on this. Plus their album/single artwork is amazing. Also I was missing some dubstep this year, so I was glad there was a bit of it here (on at least 2 tracks anyway). :P Favourite tracks: Torus, Safe In Sound, Endorphins, Out The Blue, Close, Turn It Around, Out Of Reach, Falling Down, Turn Back Time, Tidal Wave, Until The End (basically everything!) #4: One Direction - Midnight Memories I'd say this is my favourite 1D album yet. Though, like their past 2 albums, there are some 'meh' tracks. But like many others in this list, the strong tracks are really good and they make up for the weaker ones. But only enough to rank it as high as #4 (which is still really high mind). I might be distracted by my looning for Liam & Niall, though. Favourite tracks: Story Of My Life, Midnight Memories, You And I, Don't Forget Where You Belong, Strong, Happily, Through The Dark, Something Great, Little White Lies, Half A Heart #3: Haim - Days Are Gone There was just something about this group. I love their lyrics and their style. The album uses a lot of 80's/retro sounds, and has strong melodies. My Song 5 and Send Me Down are pretty immense tracks. Favourite tracks: Falling, Forever, The Wire, If I Could Change Your Mind, Don't Save Me, Days Are Gone, My Song 5, Let Me Go, Running If You Call My Name, Better Off, Send Me Down #2: CHVRCHES - The Bones Of What You Believe Speaking of immense tracks, CHVRCHES were another new artist this year that really caught my attention. They've had 3 (well I guess 4 now) big hits on my chart this year. This album is amazing; there isn't a single song on here I dislike (which is why I rank it as high as I do.) Night Sky is my least favourite, and even that I'd give an 8.5/10 at worst. Favourite tracks: The Mother We Share, We Sink, Gun, Tether, Lies, Under The Tide, Recover, Science/Visions, Lungs, By The Throat, You Caught The Light, Strong Hand (...basically everything!) #1: Avicii - True If there was one artist that dominated my chart this year the most, it was Avicii. Three straight #1's, followed by a #2. And Addicted To You debuting recently, we'll see if it can live up to those! There isn't a single track here I dislike. Although, I've tired of Wake Me Up due its overstay in the charts; but I still rank it amongst my favourites. I definitely prefer the tracks that aren't country/folk/whatever-dance-crossover, though. :P Plus he's Swedish; they always make great music! I just wish he'd credit the featured artists... Favourite tracks: Wake Me Up, You Make Me, Hey Brother, Addicted To You, Dear Boy, Liar Liar, Shame On Me, Lay Me Down, Hope There's Someone, Heart Upon My Sleeve, Long Road To Hell, Always On The Run, Canyons (... I think I listed every song but whatever :P ) 2009: 1. Lady Gaga - The Fame 2. Lady Gaga - The Fame Monster 3. Rihanna - Rated R 2010: 1. Ke$ha - Animal 2. Rihanna - Loud 3. Ke$ha - Cannibal 4. Katy Perry - Teenage Dream 5. Taylor Swift - Speak Now 2011: 1. Lady Gaga - Born This Way 2. Example - Playing In The Shadows 3. Jessie J - Who You Are 4. Rihanna - Talk That Talk 5. Nero - Welcome Reality 2012: 1. P!nk - The Truth About Love (though I barely listen to it anymore!) 2. Marina & The Diamonds - Electra Heart 3. Ellie Goulding - Halcyon 4. Cheryl Cole - A Million Lights 5. One Direction - Up All Night / Take Me Home My music tastes have changed a bit

First up is Robbie's flop follow-up single to Candy, which I liked quite a bit as an album track, but never charted well since it never did anything. We have Demons (and Turn Back Time bit further up) which are currently charting. The former has probably already peaked while the latter is looking for a top 10 placing. There's Applause, which I'm utterly shocked even did enough to be in this.. considering it has the worst chart run for a top 10 single by far. Then we have Serena's second single. I HATED Stompa, but I liked WIWD enough. We have Rizzle's debut single from their second album, which I never really knew if I liked it or not. There's Let Her Go and Counting Stars.. 2 big hit singles that I *liked* but never *loved* and got sick of sticking around in the charts too long. We have one of Haim's singles, which I wish I had chart sooooooo much better than that. And finally in this section is Like Home, a dance tune I liked well enough to give an okay chart run.

Next is the lead single from Jessie J's second album. It was very different for her, and I didn't care for it much at first and took a while for the song to really click with me. Right behind is Bieber's 4th single from his album Believe, which didn't really do much in the charts. I charted this on album release in 2012 thinking it was the next single (and quickly dropped it off when I found out otherwise) and so I re-charted it in 2013 for a bit. Following Bieber is Jessica Mauboy's single that surprisingly topped Australia iTunes. I got bored of it kinda quickly and it's not really that memorable tbh. Speaking of not that memorable, Katy B and Amelia Lily's tracks are up next (I joke). Katy's is rather dull in retrospect and Amelia's wasn't very unique for it do anything. I had completely forgotten about either of these songs til now (oops) BUT I enjoyed them nonetheless. Next is Little Mix's latest single which is racing up my chart and did just enough to make it into the top 150. Lily Allen makes it with her cover of the Keane classic for the John Lewis ad. I got really bored of her version very quickly. Ahead of Lily is Taylor who charted very well last year, and lingered around long enough in 2013 to make it into the top 150. And last up is Tegan & Sara's second single from their Heartthrob album. I love the lyrics to it. More to come later~

I preferred this to Counting Stars, but since I was charting both at the same time, it always felt like they were competing against each other. Next up is the first of 3 times we'll see the Saturdays in this list. The song was ok to me but lacked something. Then it's AlunaGeorge's follow up to Attracting Flies. I never really got into YKYLI as much. Following Aluna is JLS's final single. It's nothing remarkable, but I enjoy it for being catchy enough. I've always liked their songs for some reason. Next is Another Love, which starts off kinda dull but builds into a bit of epicness. Next is J Lo's annual offering which inevitably featured Pitbull. I know this (and Dance Again) are nothing special, but I really like them for some reason. Following is Samantha Jade's winner's single, which had its points split between 2 years. This is what a talent show winners single should be, not some random predictable bland cover. After Samantha, is my current #1 Higher (Free) which did just enough to be in the top 150. Next is The Wanted again with their song that sounds like Some Nights. And closing us out is Trampoline, which I found to be an interesting song, but hate the part where he names all the cities.. ~

Understandable as it's the worst single from that album. I got tired of it pretty quickly.. weird video. Following Calvin is Magnetic Eyes, which is a brilliant dance tune that I wish I gave a better run, but glad I charted anyway. Next up is Rita Ora's song about putting your paws/palms to the sky. And like one of 4 songs called Radioactive in the past couple of years. I don't mind that's kinda basic, I kinda like it anyway. Following Rita is Rihanna's latest single. Surprisingly, Rihanna let an album campaign last longer than 10 months, and released this immense ballad. It was one of my favourite album tracks off Unapologetic, but I think I was bored of it when it became a single. After Rihanna it's Jessica Mauboy's other single that I charted this year. I prefer this one to Pop A Bottle, though I'm not big on either of them. Next is Global Concepts, which I wish I gave a better peak than that. It's a very weird song with lots of weird sounds lol. Next is 1D's third single from Take Me Home, Kiss You. I loved the video for it. Speaking of videos I liked this year, but for different reason, it's Jack! Still one of the biggest WTF videos I've seen yet. After Breach, it's Conor's 4th single off his debut album, that got remixed with Wiley to get a UK top 10 placing. I much prefer the original though. And closing off this section is Lawson. They're known for having singles that spend like 3 weeks in the chart, so I usually don't remember them that well... but LTLA stuck out to me for some reason. My favourite of their singles so far. ~

This section begins with Breach's latest single, which I'm still charting but has probably already peaked. I think I prefer it to Jack. Following Breach it's Explosions, which became a single after doing well on iTunes after being used in a TV ad. It's a song that grew on me massively, and I love now. After Ellie it's P!nk's 4th single from her Truth About Love album and brought the return of Lily Allen to the charts. I got bored of this song after a while. Next is DJ Fresh's Earthquake, where DJ Fresh has gone into more... weird songs I guess you could say (his new DIBBYDIBBYDIBBYDIBBYDIBBYSOUND song follows this trend..). Next it's another forgotten dance tune from this year, Easy; not too different from Language, but I much prefer Language. After Mat/Porter it's Rih/David G. Right Now has always seemed to be a pretty hated song but I don't mind it... definitely not a good single choice though. Following Rih/DG is Arlissa. Sticks & Stones spent a few weeks in the #40-50 range in the official charts, but, sadly, never properly took off. After Arlissa is Riptide, which has grown on me a lot more after it left my chart. Hoping it can be a decent hit in the UK in 2014! Then there's Mozart's House, which I loved because it was so.. different. And closing us out, and 1 position short of the top 100, is Army Of Two. Olly released much better singles off this album (some are still to come in this countdown), but this one isn't too bad. ~

Disclosure, however takes the crown with 5 entries in the top 100. Speaking of CHVRCHES, the first of their 4 is at #99, which is currently charting and has reached the top 2 so far, will it go #1?. After Lies, it's We Come Running, which I had forgotten about till now, and I remember liking it quite a bit. Following WCR is Berzerk, which I liked a lot on fire few listens but then got bored of really quickly. Half of Calvin's 4 entries wind up in this section. The first is his remix of Eat Sleep Rave Repeat, though I like the original version too. It's like the male version of Loca People (if it had a Calvin Harris remix.. that would be interesting.) Calvin's other entry here is his recent UK #1, which I think I gave a better chart run to than I wanted. Sandwiched between the 2 Calvin's, is someone Calvin has worked with before - Example. I was still a big Example fan at the beginning of the year (and gone kinda off him as the year went). Perfect Replacement was good though. Also in this section is Union J's debut single, which was always lacking something for me, but I liked it enough. Though their album has much better songs than Carry You. Following Union J is Chase & Status' current single that just went top 10 for me; there's just something about this song. And closing us out is Big Banana, which is an interesting song to say the least. ~

I quite enjoy, mostly for the lyrics  After Lucy, it's Goin' Crazy, which was a song that sounded insanely catchy at first... but looking back the song really goes nowhere and there's not much to it. Just hype over the collaboration. Next it's Lies, another brilliant dance tune from early on in 2013. Followed by another dance tune, it's the 90's sounding Count On Me, which is one of my fave tracks off of Brand New Machine. Chase & Status still have one song to come in this countdown. Following C&S, it's London Grammar x2. Both songs are currently charting, though look to be at the end of their run soon. Next up is the only Justin Timberlake song I charted in 2013 (and the only single off of the 20/20 Experience 1&2 that I liked). After JT, it's Rudimental's current single, and one many songs in 2013 to feature Emeli Sandé. Following Rud-Sandé is Bastille's third(?) single off of Bad Blood. It was one of my favourite album tracks and I was glad that it became a single. And lastly, it's Hey Porsche. Nelly got a hit out of nowhere this year, and I sorta liked the song (maybe it's cuz I liked Whistle too? ). I probably wouldn't listen to Hey Porsche out of choice now, though. ~

Points: 304 / Entered Chart: 11-10-2013 / Chart Run: 17-5-7-6-15-19-25-33-38 [9 wks] The next section begins with Summertime Sadness, which we all know became a hit under the Cedric Gervais remix. I much preferred the album version, and felt the remix didn't really have anything interesting about it, but it did grow on me in the end, which is partly why it took so long to peak on my chart. Following Lana is another Aussie X Factor winner's single, this time it's Dami Im. I don't find Alive as good as What You've Done To Me, though. Next it's Clarity, which hasn't grown on me well, but it's still enjoyable. After Zedd, it's Acapella, which is a kind of a weird song but I liked it because of that I guess. At #76, it's Yeah Yeah, and the first of my 2013 #1's to appear in this list. It was pretty much a non #1 for me, so not surprised it's the lowest. Next it's Safe & Sound which was a pretty catchy song. Then it's Sub Focus again, this time pairing with Alex Clare. Then it's the Sugababes 1.0, which was pretty gutting to watch not do well in the charts. Then the highest of any of Ellie's singles in this countdown, with Figure 8. Was always one of my favourites from her. And finally it's Booyah!, which I found fun/catchy at first, but found kind of annoying by the time it left the charts. ~

[10 wks] The section of black and white artwork! This section has 4 songs that are currently charting. Starting off is Rihanna's ballad, Stay. I really like the song but it became victim of being a hit at the same time as When I Was Your Man and Just Give Me A Reason, and it just became boring having all 3 being big hits at the same time. This is the highest ranked Rihanna song this year, making this the worst she's done on my year end chart since I started. After Rihanna, it's StooShe. Slip was favourite single from theirs, and made me interested in their album; only to be very disappointed with said album. Next it's 2 of those songs I'm currently charting. Jessie J's current single, and Do I Wanna Know. The latter I only got into very recently, and so I'm giving it a proper chart run really late. Then it's the only Birdy song I've charted so far. I wasn't big on Skinny Love or People Help The People, but I really liked Wings for some reason. Next it's Little Talks, the second of my 2013 #1's to appear (well third if you count Higher (Free); but I wouldn't.) It didn't have a very good chart run after hitting #1 so it's no surprise it's so low. After OM&M, is Hedley's current single. They're Canadian band that's been around for a while now, and I've enjoyed most of their singles so far. Next it's Icona Pop. I Love It was a big on my chart in 2012, and I charted All Night for a bit in 2013. Then it's Rudimental's 3rd single. At first I found Waiting All Night kind of repetitive and didn't really go anywhere. I was shocked the song was so big in the charts. But it's grown on me a bit since then. And lastly, it's another song I'm currently charting - Animals; which has grown a new life on me in the last week or so (the rebound into the weekly top 10). ~

I always liked Boomerang for some reason. Following Scherzy is Chase & Status' lead single from Brand New Machine. I liked it but never loved it. Next up is double Samantha Jade. I've enjoyed all 3 of her singles thus far. After Samantha x2, is another Aussie female, this time it's Havana Brown again. Warrior is currently charting, but its run is nearly done anyway. Next is Selena's Come & Get It. Then it's CHVRCHES with their second of four singles to appear in this countdown. I found The Mother We Share to be kind of boring compared to Gun & Recover, but I appreciate it more now. Next up is another Canadian, this time Mia Martina. She's a lot of forgettable songs, but Heartbreaker was always a tune. Then it's Rizzle Kicks' current single which of course samples that EMF song. Its chart run is nearly done too. Army Of Two came in at #101, now Troublemaker comes in at #51. Unlucky for Olly, but he still has two songs to come in this countdown. Troublemaker took a while to grow on me, which is why I didn't chart it till 2013. ~

First up, it's Little Mix's How Ya Doin'. It was always one of my favourite album tracks, and the Missy Elliott version with the extended chorus was brilliant! Managed to make a great song even better. Though, Missy Elliott herself was rather useless. Following the girls, it's Sail, which went #1 near the very end of the cut off point so doesn't make the top 40 because of that. There's still 28 #1's to come. Next it's the 3rd of 5 appearances of Disclosure in the top 100. You And Me was a massive grower and I love it now. Right after Dis-liza, is Thrift Shop. The song was a massive #1 for me at the end of 2012, but it's points ended up being split between the two years. If all 688 points had been 2013, it would've been #12 on this year end chart(!). Then it's Reload. I actually prefer the instrumental version on Swedish House Mafia's album. But the John Martin vocal version is great nonetheless. After Reload, it's Austin Mahone. With the only song if his I've actually heard :x. It probably would've been a big hit if sung by someone else. Olly Murs proves to be even more unlucky here. His last 2 entries both miss the top 40. And after coming in at #101 and #51, he manages to come in at #41. What an unlucky coincidence. I'm amazed I gave so many points to the title track, when I actually prefer Dear Darlin'. They're both great tracks though. Also in this section is the highest of Iggy's entries. And then there's Just Give Me A Reason. I got pretty bored of JGMAR earlier in the year, but it's still a great track (I think I've said that 3 times in this paragraph now.. oh well.) Onto the top 40! ~ Edited January 7, 201411 yr by n4yr

I'm going to do this each track individually. #40: What can I say? The original instrumental mix was brilliant, and the Far East Movement bit was alright, I didn't mind them being on it. What really sold this song for me was the music video. Brilliant concept. Those ducks are awesome! This song takes me right back to the beginning of 2013 due to it being #1 when my hard drive crashed and was listening to the Sunday chart show on my phone. #39: Oh, Royals. I started charting this way back in April, before it was really big anywhere (besides New Zealand probably). It came and went out of my top 10 so quickly due to me really liking the concept of the minimalism and what the song was about, but then I got bored quickly. But after it tumbled a bit, it re-grew on me in a major way. And once I started charting Tennis Court (which I loved SO much), it helped give Royals a new life for me. And so I kept charting it as it became a big hit in Australia and started making waves in North America. With 22 weeks on the chart, it is the longest charting song of 2013 (and longest charting song ever, but my chart was only a Top 17 before 2013.) It was really great to watch this song become a major hit over time, and I was beyond ecstatic when it hit #1 in the UK. It's become my favourite UK #1 of 2013. My only regret is that I wish I had charted it in the top 20 longer because this deserves to be in my top 20 year end... but that yo-yo chart run is awesome to look at! #38: Ok, so Timomatic is from Australia's Got Talent, and has a had a few hits in Australia. I really liked Set It Off, but really hated the other two songs he released after that (they were so boring to me.) But he came back in 2013 with Parachute, and although it was basically a carbon copy of Starships, it was so catchy. It was produced by RedOne and I'm ALWAYS a sucker for just about anything he produces (Gaga, Nicki, J Lo / Pitbull, etc). So it's really no surprise I liked this one so much. #37: The next of my #1's. Though this is top 40 so it's hardly a non #1. I got tired of it quickly, but I REALLY liked this song when it first came out, and has since re-grown on me after leaving the charts. I think the drama of it all is what I like. And the dubsteppy breakdown is easily the best part of the song! #36: What Love Is Made Of was kinda boring and forgettable. To me, 5 AM was a return to form for Katy B. Unfortunately, it wasn't able to make much of an impression on the UK charts. But, it's a great song, and has everything I've missed about Katy B. I really enjoyed her debut album, and am really looking forward to her next one! #35: Oh Neon Jungle. They were never going to take off were they? Though I haven't listened to Braveheart yet. The video and the whole in your face attitude thing is rather off putting, and comes off a bit fake; but I can't deny that this song is insanely catchy! #34: From one girl group to another. Change Your Life debuted at #1 simply because I couldn't think of anything else to be #1 that week. But it went on to do very decently in my chart anyway. At this point in 2013, I was really into their debut album, and Change Your Life was one of my favourite tracks on there. I did get bored of it after it became a single, though. I remember eagerly anticipating the video for this song, and being majorly disappointed with what the video was. I like the message behind this song, but Little Me does a way better job at it. #33: Another insanely catchy song! This song hasn't tired on me at all besides the radio overplay (though I didn't listen to the radio that much in 2013 lol.) #32: I remember when listening to 18 Months and thinking that this would be the perfect single to close out the era. I knew it wouldn't go #1, but it'd be an easy top 10 hit since he had so many others from this album, and it'd be a nice song to have in the charts during the summer. And that's exactly what ended up happening! I like the more chilled back vibe of this song, especially with his previous singles being a bit more big on the production, I guess you could say. Nice to have a change in pace one in a while, and reminds me a bit of his older stuff. #31: I meant that the last Disclosure track was the 2nd of their 5 entries. This is the third! This song is a bit repetitive, and not as interesting as some of the other singles, but it's still a great track nonetheless, and it did grow on me quite a bit. ~ Edited January 8, 201411 yr by n4yr

So it's nice to have a change of pace. It flopped because of it, but it's why I really liked this song. It was a bit edgy I guess you could say. The video reminds me of Desperate Housewives though. #29: I've become utterly bored of this song by now; but when it first became a song I thought it was a beautiful ballad, and told a pretty emotional story. But with Stay and Just Give Me A Reason, all 3 of these being a hit at the same time, it got really dull really fast. I didn't chart Locked Out Of Heaven that well, but I really prefer LOOH in retrospect. Bruno's songs are usually victim to radio overplay, so it's hard for them to really age on me well. Though I loved Just The Way You Are and Grenade at the time, and I think I can bare to listen to them now. :P #28: The song that made me take in interest in CHVRCHES. I randomly heard this somewhere, and I was like "MUST DOWNLOAD"; and so I did, and I remember playing it a lot (well a lot for me) in the first day or so, so it was an easy #1 debut. It didn't have the best longevity, but it did well enough. #27: I'm not really sure why I liked Wake Me Up so much at first, the country/folk-dance crossover thing doesn't sound something that'd appeal to me at all, but this song just works for some reason. I'm entirely sick of hearing this song now though, and really has meaning now. #26: It's Avicii again! And with his second version of Wake Me Up aka Hey Brother. This just sounded so epic as an album track, and I knew it'd be a huge hit if released. It's a relatable song with a strong message behind it. I love the trumpet(?) bit in the production in the breakdown. I'm probably going to be sick of this song eventually though, like Wake Me Up. But I'm still enjoying it quite a bit right now. #25: I love the quirkiness of this song. Everything about it just works. The clapping, the "mmm-mmm" bits. I wanna be the only you call every day and night *clap* *clap*. I find it a song that I always want to dance to lol. #24: Not sure why I love Pompeii so much, but there's just something about it. The chanting, the production, "but if you close your eyes..". It's also a pretty quirky song. #23: I have no idea how Justice Crew are THIS high, but they are. That top 10 longevity and taking a while to get #1 I guess. And it's run is only like halfway done. It's not the most interesting song, but the saxophone bit in the breakdown is what does it for me with this song. Just let the good times flow~ #22: One of my recent #1's, and would've made top 20 if the year went on a week longer, along with Justice Crew. The heavy drum instrumental part really makes the song for me. It really reminds me of another song I can't quite remember. #21: Boom Boom (Heartbeat) just sticks with you I guess. The "I've been poisoned by your eyes tonight.." part is my favourite part of the song. There's just something about that bridge. ~ Edited January 9, 201411 yr by n4yr

[21 wks] #20: So this wound up being the highest of Calvin's singles this year. Though, I prefer Thinking About You to it now, I really like it at the time. But I guess I feel there's not much to I Need Your Love? Idk. I don't hate it or anything, just several songs by Calvin I like more. #19: And this wound up being the highest of Macklemore's singles (though Thrift Shop does have more points in total). The piano instrumental can come as boring at first, but this song is entirely about the message behind it, and I feel it's an important song for that reason. In fact, I'd say the stripped instrumental makes the song even better because it makes you pay attention to the lyrics. The song grabs you right from the opening line. Not many songs begin so forward (for lack of a better word). And the chorus is pretty powerful. I'm really glad it was able to become a major hit all around the world. #18: When I first heard Latch, I hated it and thought it was just weird and boring, and I hated the chorus. But as 2013 began, the song grew on me massively and I absolutely love this now. Everything about it is great. So I charted it kind of late, and both this and White Noise (which is yet to come /spoiler), were in the top 10 simultaneously for a few weeks, and this ended up being overshadowed a bit by White Noise, so I could've charted this better... But #18 is not bad at all! Also, the song that blocked this from #1 is in my top 10, so this was a strong #2! :P #17: I love everything about this song. Especially the break down (which I think they cut in the radio edit, but I don't really remember.) The steal drums are cool too. #16: One of the best videos of the year! I love everything about this song too. Not much else to say on this one. #15: Never thought the Saturdays would ever get a UK #1! But if any of their songs were to do it, I'm glad it was this one. There's just something about it. It just sticks in your head. It's fun and catchy I guess. I love the production too! All Fired Up remains my favourite single by them, though What About Us would probably be in my top 5. That said.. I hate the Sean Paul version of it, and I like to pretend it doesn't exit. -_- #14: Yeah, it's that song. What can I say? It was a jam. It was even my birthday #1. It was also my birthday #1 on the OCC charts. Which was a welcome change, since Mint Royale, "Sing", and Shout For England have had those honours in the past few years (lucky me being born in June, I always get those football #1's :manson: ). Anyway, I was randomly looking at France iTunes one day around May since I was expecting Get Lucky to be dominating or something, and I saw Robin Thicke at #1 and I was like WTF?! And so I ended up listening to the song, and as it became massive in other countries, I thought this was a fun song. I find the video hilarious, but more in an ironic sense. And that definitely helped. And then the song was everywhere during the summer and I just became sick of it. I can barely even listen to it anymore, but there was a time when I loved this for whatever reason. #13: After White Noise slayed my chart, I was really interested in hearing anything else AlunaGeorge had to offer. I don't really remember how/when I first heard this song, but I loved this song from the very start. The flute bit is great. #12: I remember thinking at one point this would be a top 10 contender. But then I saw it had zero radio support but thought it was at least go top 40 on name alone. Oh well. Like I said in the album commentary, I'm just glad I got to hear a second album from her. I just love this song. Not sure why, just something about it. #11: I never thought Talk Dirty would do so well on my chart. Never thought it'd be this high! 2 Chainz's part is horrible as always, but I just ignore his part. The song is catchy, it's fun. Idk. I love the horn sounds in the chorus. ~

Those couple of weeks where I was obsessed are enough to make it top 10, and I'm fine with that. It's not a bad song or anything.... I just think this song should swap spots with Royals. #8: Interesting video. The opening riff really does sound like that Eagles song, but I don't really care. The Wire took a bit of time to really click with me, but it did very well in the end and has had great longevity; I've never tired of this song. This is the highest placed song that didn't go #1. And the two songs that kept it off the top spot.. well they're both in my top 3 of this year end chart! So this had VERY unlucky timing, but has done amazingly well nonetheless. #7: Avicii had my top album of the year, and was one of my top artists of 2013, so it's only fair he places 2 songs in the top 10. This is my favourite of the True singles thus far, and I can never really explain why I love this song; I just do. #6: Video of the year! And not even close. It's funny, it's relatable, it's realistic, and it has a strong message of living your life, and eff the haters, and all that. Plus those gifs! (#PulseMemories). I think I love the video more than the song itself. Though the song itself is amazing. It was the first release of 2013 that I really liked and it was #1 on my YTD list for a quite a while until ultimately screwed over near the end of the year. I just wish I gave it more points when it was #1 because the points I gave are too low in retrospect. But oh well. #5: By far the highest One Direction has ever placed on my year end lists. But that's because most of their singles took their time to really grow on me. WMYB and LWWY should've been big smashes on my chart, but they weren't, though I love them now. When I first heard Story Of My Life I didn't think much of it, but after a couple of listens there was just something different/interesting about it. Not everyone likes this song, and it's starting to tire on me now, but it's great to see them have a big hit again. #4: One of my most played songs according to last.fm, so I guess it makes sense for it to be in the top 4. There's other tracks on the album I like more, but I still love this one. Just something about the lyrics of this. I really liked Recover, so it was great to have a follow-up track I liked even more. #3: The dark horse in this year end list. Really came out of nowhere. Conor and Little Mix have been neck and neck in points throughout most of the way, but Move recently went back into the lead and it's looking like it will stay that way, as this will drop out before Move does. But this has done amazingly well on my chart regardless. Don't think it can surpass Tennis Court in the long run though. Now, I absolutely loved Contrast and it was one of my favourite albums of 2012. So obviously I was very interested in seeing what Conor would do next. I remember the first time I listened to R U Crazy and I was kind of surprised he did a song like this. I fell in love with this song pretty quickly. Not really sure why. It seems so random that I love this as much as I do. #2: Not quite able to overtake Lorde in the end, but may well outdo her in the long run. It's had amazingly longevity thus far and I just never get sick of this song. I love odd song structures like these (part of why I love Girls Aloud); and that's what caught my interest in the first place with this song. It's fun, it's catchy, and it is different from their stuff from DNA. And it's my avi, so obviously I love this song! #1: It is my most played song on last.fm ever (well ever being since late 2010); so it's no surprise at all that this is my year end #1. This continues the trend of my year end #1's going in a different direction every 2 years (2009 Bad Romance, 2010 California Gurls, 2011 Feel So Close, 2012 Feel The Love) 2 years of pop, 2 years of dance, 2 years of indie? Who knows. It's another song that I can't really explain why I like so much. I just do I guess. The lyrics captured my attention from the first time I heard it. While Royals was still growing on me again and having a wonky chart run, Tennis Court made me really take notice of Lorde. I downloaded her The Love Club EP shortly after, and loved that too. And I loved most of Pure Heroine. But like I said, it is my most played song so I feel justified in this being #1. Edited January 11, 201411 yr by n4yr
