I watched this movie at the cinema yesterday. It was much better than expected!!! Emma Thompson is incredible with her role!! If there wasn't Cate's perfromance for "Blue Jasmine", Emma Thompson would be my favourite actress in 2013!!! She is brilliant as P.L. Travers. At least, she has been nominated for Bafta "Best Actress in a Leading Role" award..

The movie was based on the collaboration of Walt Disney with the author of "Mary Poppins". The latter was very strict and stubborn and she didn't want to give him the screen rights of her novel. But Walt Disney had given a promise to his children for this movie because they read this book and they totally loved it. So, he wanted to do their favour..

"Saving Mr. Banks" have many funny scenes, smart dialogues and the directory is decent. I noticed that it has very good cinematography. The music is one of the best and Thomas Newman's score received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score!!!

 

I was pretty disappointed with this tbh. There were amusing moments and Emma Thompson was very good but I didn't realise just how big a part the flashbacks would play and I wasn't as keen on them at all so that really let it down for me and from my view it definitely dragged a little.

I thought it was great, really. Emma was glorious throughout, especially near the end when she started to let her guard down a little, Tom Hanks was very good too (it was pretty much how I imagined Walt really, utterly charming, but clearly with a darker side just underneath). I think it was maybe about 15 minutes too long, but it was generally pretty well paced and amusing.

Emma Thompson is delightful in this movies. If you like her, i will suggest you to see "Imagining Argentina". It's not one of her well-known films but it's a nice movie and underated too..Antonio Banderas also plays along with her.
