April 22, 201411 yr Author Thanks to Diz for the link to the press release and a great interview with Will. What an intelligent deep thinking character he is. No wonder being solely on the pop treadmill doesn't sit well with him. http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb152/gillwill_photos/PERSPECTIVES_WILL_YOUNG_MAGRITTE.jpg http://www.itv.com/presscentre/ep3week19/p...es#.U1ZkyvldV8E
April 22, 201411 yr And on a much more basic note, doesn't he get the wear out of his clothes?! Edited April 22, 201411 yr by ros
April 26, 201411 yr This is a decent link to Magrittes paintings in chronological order: http://totallyhistory.com/rene-magritte-paintings/ It says there are 190+ items. I wonder which of them Will will concentrate on during the programme.
April 26, 201411 yr Author Thanks for those Ros. Wasn't it the apple one that Will had on his wall as a student? None of us could have guessed the significance behind the door and outfit on the Echoes tour.
April 26, 201411 yr Thanks for those Ros. Wasn't it the apple one that Will had on his wall as a student? None of us could have guessed the significance behind the door and outfit on the Echoes tour. I can't remember to be honest. I wonder if Will thought all his audience were philistines since no one identified his efforts! All the grumbles there were over his hat, the raincoat etc.. :D
April 28, 201411 yr Looking forward to seeing Will next Sunday . I'm not into art so I hope it's not too heavy! :)

April 28, 201411 yr Not sure if I'll enjoy the programme content, but I'll enjoy seeing Will doing his best to convince me.

April 29, 201411 yr Author Thanks to Elaine. Radio Times Perspectives 10.00 ITV Pop star, actor and now art critic ... Will Young takes a gentle stroll through the life and works of Rene Magritte. Surreal. and further inside Radio Times - Art - Will Young and Rene Magritte aren't names you instantly connect. But the singer has long been fascinated by the surrealist's subversive humour. Will discovers that Magritte was, superficially anyway, a conventional man who 'lived quietly in a suburb in Brussels, dressed like a banker and married his childhood sweetheart'. As well as talking to the custodian of the Magritte estate, Will visits the artist's modest grave and hears how he summed up his life. 'Ah yes, we are all mysteries. We are part of the world and the world itself is a mystery'. Also in Radio Times. Sunday viewing 10.00pm - there is a lovely picture of Will. Will Young dons his bowler hat for a surreal experience with Rene Magritte. The write up says - Perspectives: the man in the hat - Rene Magritte with Will Young. As a teenager, singer and actor Will Young stumbled on a book about Rene Magritte, whose trademark was a bowler hat. Ever since that moment, he's had a passion for the surrealist's art. Now, in Magritte's native Belgium, Will discovers that this man with a sober exterior had the mind of a subversive rebel. Magritte had a childhood that was marked by tragedy and a marriage that survived from his adolescence until his death in 1967. He left behind a stunning legacy.
April 29, 201411 yr Author Wonderful write up in the TV Times. Thanks to Abbie. "One is the TV talent show winner who triumphed against the odds on Pop Idol and has forged a long-lasting career on stage and screen; the other is a Belgian surrealist master whose s tyle and wit made him one of the most influential artists of the last century. So what is it about Rene Magritte that captivates Will Young? All is revealed as this fine series, in which stars reveal their unlikely influences, continues. A terrific story, well told - if his singing career ever falters, Will really should consider making accessible arts documentaries as an alternative career... **** " brilliant too read that others see just what a multi talented man Will is. :cheer: Edited April 29, 201411 yr by truly talented
April 29, 201411 yr Thanks TT - looking forward to this. I watched Alan and Gary and enjoyed them both. I think it's good to have a different slant on the arts etc., some of the programmes presented by 'experts' can be very boring with them getting too 'technical', making it feel more like a lecture than a TV show. No doubt the usual Tweets will come thick and fast :P

April 29, 201411 yr Author Sounds as if Will's genuine passion for the subject really comes across in this documentary. Still think Magritte was the subject Will was studying while touring Cabaret. He never does anything half hearted does he?
