Here are some options for Take That to come back stronger in their next studio album.

1/ Break up and then reform in ten years time

2/ Write another hit as good as Rule the World

3/ An album with guest singers including artists such as Adele, Lulu, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran

4/ A new member of the band, for example Will Young (Gary Barlow would have to let new member take some lead vocals)

5/ Reformation of all five (seems unlikely)

6/ Co-write and star in a new Andrew Loyd Webber hit musical

7/ Reinvent their material/move into a new genre to create a new sound (would be risky)

I don't think No.1 or No.4 would work for them at all, they certainly should be adding new members imo.

Don't think a new sound would work for them either, Progress/ed was more than enough of a diversion and a lot of people found the latter just too bizarre.

No.3 could be interesting though, they've never done a project like that before.

I do agree with those points Aphrodite, it does put everything into perspective. I totally agree that the sales achieved by Three to date are indeed sales that many acts can not achieve in the life span of an album. Additionally to acts such as Coldplay, 5 Seconds of Summer, The Vamps and Paolo Nutini as you mentioned, Ella Henderson, is another who is deemed hugely successful at the moment but in a longer time frame has sold less than Take That.

Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith are currently the big stars of the moment achieving huge success and sales. Ed Sheeran has had 2 very successful album eras, Sam Smith we have yet to see how the follow up will sell but i would predict at best Ed Sheeran's sales will decrease on his third release or certainly for his 4th. My point is similar to Aphrodite, Take That have had 4 wonderfully successful albums with sales that dreams are made of, all selling in the reach of 2 million units. This is not to ignore the fact that previous releases such as Take That and Party, Everything Changes, Nobody Else the original Greatest Hits have also sold with impressive figures.

At this stage of their career, or any act at that have managed to get to the same stage to sell 400,000 albums in less than 2 months is nothing to worry about, it is in fact something to be celebrated. Achieving success to this level almost 25 years into their career is not the success that is met by many acts, in fact it is the success that many artists would celebrate if they achieved it.

Absolutely agree with you Aphrodite, well said.

I'll second that Jay.

Incidentally re Aphrodite's post where she mentioned The Vamps. I bought my daughter their album for Christmas and what a good, catchy album it was.

Looks to be that Take That sold around 20,000 copies of These Days and 8,000 copies of III last week.

Personally, I wouldn't be too open to new members in TT and I don't think many fans would be. TT is more than just a band, it comes with a whole story behind it and I don't see how anyone new would fit in that story.

As for them collaborating with other artists, it could work for a track or two, but not for a whole album. Besides, it would have to be mainly male artists, because Gary's voice does not generally blend well with women's voices. There's also the fact that people could start saying that a newfound success would be due to the artists they're collaborating with, the same way some people are now claiming that the success of Progress was down to Robbie. Dignity has to prevail over chart success.

The video for Get Ready For It is released this week. Let's wait and see what reception it gets and whether the boys have some promo lined up for it.

Gary has always said they'd never consider a new member of the band. NMS suggested Shayne Ward could replace Jason at one point ( think I read it in Gary's book) and Gary immediately poured scorn on it. Your right Milly, Take That could never replace Rob or Jason, they have too strong an identify and back history.

There's a lot of buzz around the new Kingsman film and those who had seen have rated it highly. Unfortunately the song comes at the end of the film, rather than at the start, so I can't see it having that much impact, but who know! The stills from the video look really good so let's hope it's a strong video which compliments the song.

For me only pt 2, a strong song like Rule the world or Shine would work. I am not interesed in a new member, what for? 2, 3,4, 5 - for me TT is TT and basta, i don't want a Sugababes way for them. I am not interested in another reunion or the other points.

I think just the sound of III didn't worked with the demografy of their fanbase. The sound it worked for me the best was The Circus one and the BW era. I love retro electr-pop but for the new one i don't have nothing to like (aka Progress). I like more pure sound, which is way i liked Circus with their tuba and whatever than Progress with an overload of electronic sound and voices. They went too modern, which work mainly for another demografy instead of a classic sound, which have worked across the ages. Just my opinion.

I would not like new members to join, new members would be like the conveyor belt that was the Sugababes which in the end was farcical. It would be different if Robbie and Jason were continue coming in and out of the band as they are original members of the band and are part of the history of Take That. I could never see a new member joining so i do not think we have to worry.

When a band have talent within the band it is easier to make progress and try new sounds for example Take That can use their own talent where bands like Westlife did not. The boys can write songs and each album to date has had a different sound but essentially has kept a Take That sound to it. I do believe their strengths are ballads, that said, i am a fan of both ballads and uplifting songs such as Shine, Up All Night and These Days. The weakness they are short of at the moment is a big ballad such as Rule The World which is rightly their biggest hit.

What we are looking at is TOTAL sales for III being less than FIRST WEEK sales for Progress.

I think we are seeing the end of Take That, at least for now, unless the single for the Greatest Hits is another Rule The World or they have another trick up their sleeve, both of which are unlikely.

Since their last album, album sales have dropped through the roof for many artists. Yes its a big fall in terms of what III has sold over the Christmas period in comparison to their last three albums but the album may continue to sell well over this year with future single releases. If they call it a day then I doubt it will be due to their sales but more for other reasons.

The Take That sound works best when its pure and simple. I disliked Progress in particular because to my mind it was vastly over produced. BW worked so well because the sound was pure, you could clearly hear the vocals and it had a simply and timeless feel to it.

As much as I love RTW that is over produced as well and if I have any criticism of them it's that they keep over producing their sound. The Abbey Road compilation was really lovely. I love lll but they should have come back with a sound similar to BW/Abbey Road for the latest album. Well crafted, ballads are doing well- Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran etc. If you think of Adele's 21 was in no way ground breaking. It was simply an album with solid song writing, well produced with clear vocals and a pure sound.

To remain at the top Take That need to go back to basics. Leave the modern, electronic sound to other bands and return to quality songs with an orchestral feel to them.

The over-produced sound is probably Mark's influence in the band. It's the same sound that it's on The Art of Doing Nothing and Mark did say that he likes everything that distorts his voice. On the other hand, if we look at Since I Saw You Last, it's very reminiscent of BW and the sound is so so clear.

An Abbey Road version of III would be welcome. Going by the live performances, they could have done with less production on III, because their voices don't need it. The only song the electro sound works really well on is I Like It.

That being said, I still enjoy III just a teeny bit more than BW.

I often find that Take That sound better live than on a recording. The lll songs did indeed sound good live on the Radio 2 show. Remember taking my son to a TT concert for the first time - Circus tour I think. He commented on their live vocals and actually said recently he thinks they're one of the few pop acts that sound as good live as they do on a record.

Obviously their live locals are not as perfect at the recorded version, but I think he meant that they sound clearer and somewhat stripped on the over production element. Never thought about the TT sound it terms of Gary and Mark's distinctive tastes but you're probably right. Gary's album was a more MOR effort and reminiscent of BW and Mark has a more indie sound, and dare I say it, a more imaginative approach to music.

As a huge fan of live music i am delighted to read people saying Take That are better live than on recording. I have always said i thought they were fantastic live vocalists, and i love their live albums and i live in hope we will get another live album from this tour. I have never seen take that give a bad live vocal performance and concert wise they really do give fans value for their money. As i have said in other forums and here in the past i can not understand why anyone would want to go to a concert to see someone mime, stay at home and listen to the cd is my opinion.

A side from vocally i always feel take that's music really comes alive when performed live, the full effect of the songs definitely hit home to me when performed live, i am always doing up my own play lists and cds of take that live performances and where possible its all the live versions of their songs i listen to rather than studio versions, like wise with Garys solo material.

Me too. If given the choice, I'd rather watch a video of a live performance rather than the official video because: 1. the songs reach their full potential when performed live and 2. I really love watching Gary's face when he sings

Get Ready For It was shown on Good Morning Britain. I hope this is the beginning of the promotion for this single. By the way, do we even know when it's released?

I like the song even more now, after seeing the video. I don't know why people say it doesn't have the same potential as RTW. I find it just as powerful, if not more.

Good video. It's a strong production with an epic Coldplay-esque vibe but for me the reason it doesn't have the same potential as RTW is because the chorus doesn't really go anywhere. I absolutely love the verses though!

Get Ready For It is a good song but the chorus could be stronger. I have doubts it will be a big hit but a modest hit would be suffice and would increase interest in the album. Ideally, they will have lots of promotion lined up as I believe without it the single will under-perform.

Live Take That are a pleasure to listen too, no one can deny their ability to perform live excellently. They have a great ability to deliver wonderful live performances, both in an entertaining way and vocally. They have built up an excellent name for themselves as live performers which is a fantastic to be associated with as it is an area so many performers fall down on.

III is my favourite Take That album. I don't think they could have come back with a stronger album in fairness. People say they need to go back to basics and yes beautiful world sold well but there are only a handful of really good tracks on the album. The same with the circus. Progress has a much darker sound and not keen on most of it apart from a few songs but I like every single track on III.

Mid - weeks have arrived, These Days is at number 21 with Three holding steady at number 16. Album sales will be much lower this week.

I do like all of their albums, based on my current mood i would rank the albums:

1st The Circus (Almost faultless album)

2nd Beautiful World

3rd Three

4th Progress.

I would over all have the live albums rated in here as well as both are immensely enjoyable.
