You're so right. Not even a tour, because fans know they'll hear the classics

True, they really need to go all out on the singles, tie the promo together, have bundles, phyisical releases, tv promo and of course good songs. They need to focus on having 3 good singles per album.

Do you think the shift from physicals to streaming and digital downloads is the reason they've not bothered with the traditional b sides, maxi singles etc?
It is likely a huge factor, but since said it al they seemed to have all but given up on singles outside the lead single.
I think we all agree on the bad handling of the singles. Can anyone honestly see it improving?

Afraid I can't, Pippa. In the early days their strategy was quite strong if you consider Patience and Shine. Likewise, it was good for GD and the follow ups SIA and UAN and obviously The Flood. As we've all stated why they've released the Hey Boy video so late is perplexing.

This one may have been filmed in NY but the way single releases are handled future budgets won't stretch much further than Slough, or at a push Blackpool!! :)

Indeed and in general the budget per single will get lower and lower as they will not be financially viable.

To be point where it'll be like eight letters, using previous footage as a montage
After hearing Yorkshire today, I'm missing even more Gary's songwriting talent on the TT singles lately. I realize that is a musical and the song is adequate, but it strikes me that the same person can consent to the lyrics of Hey Boy and, at the same time, create something so beautiful lyrically as Yorkshire.

I absolutely loved the song - and the end of it gave me goose bumps. Pop but with a musical twist - fantastic. I also thought that Gary sounded really good. Did you not love the song, Milly? I reminded me a little of some of the B sides from around the BW era.

You are right though - it's hard to believe that the same person wrote Yorkshire and released Hey Boy!

After listening again the melody has more than a passing resemblance to elements of ELO and The Beatles Eleanor Rigby ( well I think that's the song I'm thinking of)

I absolutely loved Yorkshire, dylandog :) And Gary's voice sounded fabulous. After listening for 2 hours to all that Radio 2 music, I was afraid I'd lack patience and I wouldn't like the song, but it got me hooked instantly. Sadly, I'm loving more Gary's musicals than TT's music at the moment :(

For the next album, maybe the boys could split the work in 2 halves: one half for songs in the vein of FN, BW, SISYL and one half for their more experimental music. That way they could keep both the fans satisfied and challenge themselves.

For those who haven't heard the song yet, here's the link: http://picosong.com/6Ufv/

Its more of a cross between ELO's Diary of Horace Wimp and The Beatles' Penny Lane. There's also a tiny bit quite a bit of Divine Comedy's National Express in there.

Not a trace of Eleanor Rigby in it.

I'll admit though - it is quite catchy.

I can't hear Penny Lane in there, but maybe you're right - it's certainly has a Beatle vibe, and undoubtedly ELO. I don't remember Diary of Horace Wimp so I'll look it up. Showing my lack of musical knowledge as I don't know Divine Comedy's National Express - so I'll look that up as well.

It is incredibly catchy and as a musical piece it may pack quite a punch in a theatre environment.

Its more the general 'cheeriness' of Penny Lane I'm thinking of (rather than the more downbeat, sadness of Eleanor Rigby). You're right though - definitely a Beatles vibe. I've just listened to National Express again - and there are definitely elements of that in it. I love the Divine Comedy song - the lyrics are fabulous.

Kath, listened to a couple of ELO songs - can't believe I didn't recall Diary of Horace Wimp. ELO were great in their day and for anyone interested JL is doing a Radio 2 gig which will be on the red button. Gary and Mark have both expressed their admiration of ELO and of course they use MBS as the intro for Shine.

Will be interested to hear the rest of the score.

I'm keeping my eyes peeled for any upcoming concerts from Jeff Lynne (with his former ELO colleague Richard Tandy - all that is left of ELO now). I know from being a lifelong fan of ELO that Jeff Lynne used to hate the live/touring part - he loved the writing, studio and production side of things. I think he's changed recently as I know he enjoyed that Hyde Park thing he did. I'd quite honestly sell all my worldly belongings to see him live again (I went to see the iconic Out of the Blue tour in 1978 and that was unforgettable. I remember everything about the whole day in London - not just the concert - including goofy pictures taken of us with the Burghers of Calais!!!!!)

TT are doing Hyde Park next summer.

Is that a big event in UK?

I'm glad you liked Yorkshire, Kath. I'm gonna have to familiarize myself with ELO, since I know almost nothing about them - nobody here does, if I'm honest (well, from Kath's post, I realized I wasn't even born when they were already touring, so people here might have known them back then). Reading other people's comments and posts, I've inferred that they are very respected artists and very successful in UK and TT have quoted them several times as an influence, so I'll have to broaden my musical knowledge.

I think Yorkshire is very good. Chorus is very catchy!

Yeah, I got tickets to Hyde Park this morning! I think it's quite a big deal. To see TT in the summer was something I couldn't turn down, and a nice filler for the stadium gigs in 2017

Been at work all day - just got back and I've seen the news about Hyde Park. So, Jay, did tickets go on sale today? Read that tickets available from Friday- were they priority tickets today?

Also, read a lot of bad press about ticket prices which I guess is nothing to do with TT ( although they're getting the flack ) Will try for tickets on Friday as a very special treat to myself! Last time I went to an outdoor venue of this kind was the Rolling Stones in Leeds and I hated it. Stuck at the back sitting on the floor watching MJ strut his stuff at yet another of their 'farewell tours.' Hoping Hyde Park will be a better experience.
