Pharrell announced the release of his second(!) solo album, G I R L, on Tuesday, before performing the current hit "Happy" at the BRIT Awards on Wednesday night. Despite the slightly derogatory album artwork, Pharrell said in an interview with Zane Lowe after the BRITs that he wishes to honour the female figures that have been part of his life by making the record.

Happy is absolutely abysmal but I adore his past stuff like Frontin ... if he creates anything like that again I will be happy.

Thanks for the recommendation

Confirmed to have collabs with Miley Cyrus, Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys and JOJO!!

Okay, I am excited .

Agreed.

Incredible discography then he drops 'Happy'. Don't think we'll get anything close to what he's done in the past but here's hoping.

Pretty much love everything by Pharrell, don't think he's released one dud. It's a shame that Happy has been ruined by the masses but it's a great and feel-good song if you look past that

It literally is just him going "coz I'm happy" on repeat, it makes me feel angry rather than happy tbh.

Thankfully I haven't heard it much because I don't listen to radio anymore.

The production touches and choir ad-libs make the song for me.
The cover is fabulous. Love the title too. Ooh

Ugh god Miley and Justin are going to have me liking Pharrell songs :(

He's one of those artists I usually can't stand alone, but I like when there's a good featured artist or he features on a good song (such as Blurred Lines and Can I Have It Like That). As I've said about 7872382329 times, Happy and Get Lucky make me feel a bit sick.

I hope this is something that's had a lot of work put into it, rather than some rush-job thrown together to capitalise on 'Happy'.

Babe this is Pharrell Williams we're talking about here

The fact it's only been announced a couple of weeks before release is what's got me worried.

I'm part of the 'love Pharrell, hate Happy' crew, let's hope 'Happy' isn't indicative of the album whatsoever.

So here for the JT and Miley collabs, won't even pretend to care about the Alicia Keys one.

Excited for this!

I don't mind Happy, but its far from his best work, but it is easily accessible. The album rush release seems strange, but it could just be that he's been planning a solo album for some time, but the continued success of Happy has led to him and his team rushing the release. I have no idea really.

I don't know why everyone assumes it's a rushed release just because it was announced close to the release date, maybe he just didn't want his fans to have to be 'in suspense' for very long a la Radiohead / David Bowie?

I'm really surprised that 'Happy' gets so much hate on here, I can fully understand why people might find it boring especially with the overplay but it just doesn't seem like a HATE sort of song. I still really like it. Hope the album can deliver ~ JT collab could be fabulous if done right.
