March 3, 201411 yr I've pretty much stopped listening to the charts in the past year or two. I don't like the charts presenter and find her very dull. I also don't like a lot of the songs in the charts at the moment and don't get the current craze about songs like "blurred lines" and "happy". Album sales are atrocious at the moment and can't be blamed solely on the recession and illegal downloading - I think its a lot to do with a lack of strong releases in the past year or so. 90s sounding dance music appears to be making a bit of a return to the charts at present which is interesting given we've had a long era of dull urban music.
March 4, 201411 yr I don't think you have to like what's in the charts to like the charts. I was always interested, but really got into it the summer that Rock Me Amadeus went to number one (sometime in the 8s I think). Smash Hits gave a way a free poster and you filled in the top 10 over the summer, I filled it in and always remember (hopefully correctly), that Falco spent 10 weeks in the top 10 but just one week at number one. That really got me hooked. ah I bought that poster too and filled it in, and had it on my wall. Still got it. I agree about not having to like what's in the charts, it's been a hot topic since they were created, and everyone has an opinion on stuff they like or dislike, all part of the fun...

Must admit I listen to very little chart music now, except for the artists I know I like - the challenge for me is challenging the OCC's sales secrecy, to produce YTD sales lists.
March 5, 201411 yr Have they ever said anything about you producing the figs for BJ? No, presumably because they can tell from the differences between mine & their real ones, that they are only estimates (that's if they've ever bothered checking).
March 8, 201411 yr Isn't the official chart just a copy of the iTunes sales for the week? You can even predict the top 3 each Sunday just by looking generally at an iTunes chart for Monday, Wednesday and Friday. That just takes the fun out of it. Plus who really cares about the charts, when the chart is filled with records that won't go away just because somebody at iTunes keeps lowering the price of certain records to 59p for a few weeks then shoving the price back up to 99p, killing the song, till they repeat the price drop a month later and the song comes back into the chart! I think that's why the BBC want streaming in the chart, to stop it looking like iTunes!
