Posted March 3, 201411 yr Apologies if there's already an old thread on The US Office that I have failed to find. I know I'm about a decade late to the party here but I absolutely love this show - one of my favourite comedy series ever. Please tell me there are others who still share a similar sentiment towards it?! Was a big fan of the UK version as a kid and was foolishly stubborn about giving its American remake a chance, despite constantly overhearing quotes in school when it was popular. Anyway, I recently started watching, got immediately hooked and I'm currently about halfway through Season 3. I love nearly every character - the ridiculous yet somewhat realistic ones as well as the background, more normal ones like Phyllis! (Mrs. Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration). Toby has to be my favourite I think. I'm always willing him on in his encounters with Michael. Huge love for Kelly, Kevin and Creed as well. And obviously Dwight and Michael. I find the writing to be excellent and the various dynamics going on between the characters are intriguing. In particular I think it's really impressive how the writers have managed to maintain interest in the Pam/Jim sexual tension thing for so long (although I could imagine it may get a bit boring once they properly get together later on!). So is anyone else a fan? Favourite characters/quotes/scenes? Criticisms? Anything at all...?!
March 4, 201411 yr Surprisingly there's no topic dedicated to this show oops I think I only have seen a few episodes of this and they didn't really impress me much. Maybe some day when I have nothing else to watch (aka 99.999999999999% sure it will never ever happen :( )
December 20, 20177 yr I absolutely LOVE this show!! I mean, after about 100 attempts, the US had to get one British sitcom remake right! Started watching it earlier this year and now I've just started the 6th season. At first, I was really put off because you are comparing it to the original and it feels like the generic let's use this character but make him more outlandish and extreme (David/Michael, Gareth/Dwight). I really didn't care for those first few episodes but I carried on with it anyway to the point where I'm now addicted! As soon as it differentiates from the original, and you start seeing the show in its own right, it is SO good. This is largely down to the increased use of the supporting characters, who are often my faves in US sitcoms. Kevin and his laugh in particular is a fave <3 Angela also makes me howl, with her snarky traditional value comments to others and her love of the Party Planning Committee. I have to disagree with Noah though because I weirdly find myself supporting Michael with his hatred of Toby. :kink: It took me a while to get into the main characters but, again, I've grown to love them and they're some of my favourite comedy characters ever. I think Pam particularly has had a strong character development so far, she's the one I'm loving the most right now! I also like how, whilst he's the rootable 'hero', Jim has some really flawed characteristics such as having a bad attitude to work. It helps sort of preserve the integrity of the show as it gives a reason as to why he is staying there after all those years. I think the fact that it largely focuses on small issues also helps it as, despite being a bit OTT, it stops the show becoming tired due to the amount of episodes and it helps create some fantastic character developments. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the show, although I've heard it tails off a bit once Michael leaves... but all I see is Catherine Tate!!. Latest news is also that it could be returning with a mix of old/new cast :o
