Just reading a thread on Devoted got me thinking.

Are his fans on here happy to wait for Will to produce new material or would they prefer him to go down the covers route if it means an earlier release?

Though I'm anxious to see and hear him it's the original material that excites me most. He's grown so much as a singer/songwriter with Echoes being amongst his best work.

Still bemused by what Will meant by Cabaret opening so many doors for him. That surely can't just refer to the Magritte documentary.

What are others thoughts?

Not a cover album, but maybe a classic to cover as a one off single, gutted no new material will be happening any time soon fans will soon be ex fans i think, obviously still love will but frustrated with lack of new stuff

I'm happy to wait for new material...I ain't going anywhere lol!

I love the occasional covers we get from Dermot's shows, tours etc but for me there is nothing like hearing new material for the first time :w00t: Echoes is sublime and if the new album is anywhere near that standard I for one will be a very happy bunny indeed.

As for Will's comment I doubt he was referring to the documentary but I really have no idea tbh.

Thanks for sharing your views Neil and Jacqui. The occasional cover is fine by me too but that's my limit.

I'm sure a new original album will be well worth the wait, othough I appreciate how frustrating the wait is going to be. I think all who post in this forum see Will as a singer first and foremost but understand his need to diversify. I can only think he has some big project planned as I can't believe such a creative mind will allow him to sit twiddling his thumbs for 2 years.

If I'm honest I still don't believe there'll be nothing for another two years from now. No one who apparently heard him say that has surfaced to explain it, and for all we know it may have been something to fob off the person asking, or even the first thing that came into his head, or even how he was feeling at the time.

But I would never want him to do an album of covers just to get something out. I realise there are a lot of fans who would like it as they seem to want him to have a profile singing, whatever if takes, but not me.

I want an album he's proud to put out and will just grit my teeth and wait.

Will's never been one for disclosing his plans to his fans so you could well be right Ros. We'll have to pay more attention to his cryptic tweets. :P

I agree with this. Don't think an exact timescale can be put on anything either. Also, if it was right, he wouldn't be doing other things / nothing for 2 years, as part of that time would be spent writing and recording the album - no idea how long it takes to do this but I would think it's going to take some time, plus you have to be at the right place / feeling creative to write.

Bumbling on Devoted has posted she thinks there may have been two new songs added to the ASCAP database by the way, says there were 91 songs registered, now there are 93.

Sunday is the one to ask about new songs on the publishing sites Abbie. I'll get in touch with her.

Sunday reckons they are just duplicates or songs from his albums that suddenly got added for no reason years after release. :(

It would be nice if someone could tidy up the songs on Wills search on that publishing site. So much repetition and some titles are just parts of other songs aren't they?

Yes there are duplicates and titles that can be identified from lyrics.

I'm sure an album of Will covers would sell well but at this stage in his career is that what it's all about. For me it would be a backward step. Once on the cover trail it's often more difficult t get back to being successful with your own music, look at Ronan Keating.

I don't want him to go down the covers route, and I don't think he would do it.

I will be here waiting for his new album :) .

He likes to be busy so I can't see him doing nothing for the next 2 years!

But it's Will the singer I love not the actor.

I certainly wouldn't like an album of covers after waiting two years (if that's true!). In two years time I'll be so OLD and most probably have a zimmer frame with wheels (of course)

Oh I'm sure it isn't true, just something some of his Devoted fans would like to happen. Seems that no one who posts on here is in favour of it. I agree with finally can't see Will wanting to take that route at all, especially with how hard he's striven for credibility.

Age is just a number Avis and you are definitely have a much younger outlook. :)

I think that's why he perhaps didn't give permission for Ronnie Scott's to record and release him singing live classic songs. I saw there was a live session at Ronnie Scott's on Sky Arts the other day.

I know fans have been upset about a lot Will's live stuff being withheld but I believe this has all been part of the plan. Sometimes it's best for longevity to always leave your audience wanting more.

Julie(Will4me) has posted a couple of interviews from the Scottish press, leading up to Cabaret in Edinburgh. There Will says

“I was meant to be having a sabbatical this year but the one work thing I ended up doing was the Olivier Awards in April because the show got nominated. I got nominated, Siân Phillips (who plays Fraulein Schneider) got nominated. We did a performance there and I was talking with the guys afterwards and I said, ‘This is so much fun, I think we should tour it’. And so we are.”

Makes me wonder if he could possibly be taking back the 'me time' and after that the album is indeed the next thing on the agenda.

Thanks TT for bringing across.

Yes he knew when the first stint of Cabaret was over that Bill Kenwright wanted him back again, so maybe he's just shuffled the schedule around a bit before the album gets priority. That's what I would like to think anyway.

I've already beaten you to it.
