Posted March 4, 201411 yr I just watched this movie at the cinema today. I needed an action movie after so many Academic movies..The beginning was quite bad and the dialogues reminded me "Xena : Warrior of Princess" (Do you remember her..?). But it got better and the last 30-45 minutes were impressive (Volcanic Eruption). The directory was good but it could be even better if it had a recognizable director. Paul W.S. Anderson has also directed "Resident Evil" and "Alien v.s Pretador". I think that he hadn't the experience to undertake a project like "Pompeii"..At least, his movie wasn't boring and the two leading actors (Kit Harington & Emily Browning) were suitable for the roles. It doesn't need to have great expectations for this..It would be a good choice if you hadn't something better to do..I guess that it would be better if you watched it at the cinema (Big Screen is always the best). There is also a 3d edition. Official Uk Release : 2 May 2014 t6TRwfxDICM
May 7, 201411 yr saw the 3D version today. Fair to say it's basically an action movie. I won't spoil the plot and tell the ending. OK I will, Pompeii gets blown to smithereens and virtually everyone dies (we assume). For once, the British are the goodies, and the gladiators are virtually superheroes in their ability to kill and maim at an astonishing pace. Dialogue and plotting more Eastenders than classic Latin drama, though fun to see historical facts on the screen (and a lot of historical fantasy too). 5/10
May 7, 201411 yr I thought this was bloody BORING and also terribly written, acted, directed and the CGI was woeful too. All it needed to do was be entertaining for 87 minutes and it was an absolute slog to get through that with wooden performances and characters I WILLED to die and (aside from the obvious eruption) you could have guessed every character moment/motivation if someone had provided you with a brief 2 minute synopsis.
May 7, 201411 yr I saw the trailers for this at the cinema, and the first thing that popped in my head, the raspberry film of the year, I wouldn't even pay £8.50 to watch the film, you would have to drag me to see it. I'm booked for Godzilla next Thursday :D
May 8, 201411 yr There was one bonus I forgot to mention: Carrie Ann Moss of The Matrix fame is in it. Another plot hilarity: the hero dispatches whole armies of trained warriors single-handedly (virtually) yet has a bit of trouble swordfighting with 2 ageing Roman politicians who murdered his family. Hah!
May 9, 201411 yr I thought this was decent, a solid 6/10 but nothing more, far too much before the volcano erupted imo
