I watched this movie today. I didn't know that it was a modern fairytale.. I thought that it was an epic movie based on the official trailer. Maybe i was confused..Akiva Goldsman directed the movie. He was also wrote the screenplay. The movie based on the 1983 novel of the same name by Mark Helprin. The directory was good and the acting was decent but the whole story was quite weak..It was certainly for kids and the deepest meaning reminded me "Cloud Atlas". The latter was million times better than it though. It had a lot of romantic scenes and it was boring in some parts. There were a lot of scenes in which Colin Farrell walked alone on the streets, on the roads e.t.c..Everywhere...I would expect something better based on the leading actors. I drunk a hot strong coffee before i watched the movie but it didn't help me at all..I yawned a lot. I have already watched many exciting movies in this year but "Nebraska" and "Winter's Tale" were the most boring..

If you are a kid or an adult who likes romantic movies, i would suggest you watch this film. But if you don't belong to this category, you better leave it..

 

p.s Will Smith's role was out of time..

 

My mum loved this but I hated it. I was misled a bit by the trailer too (which actually looked GOOD), I knew how silly it was going to be from the first appearance of the horse and it really dragged on. Was hoping it would get better with Jennifer Connelly's appearance but it really didn't. Will Smith's role was so laughable and the 'deeper meaning' of the whole thing didn't work out for me at all.

 

Could see this being the worst movie I see all year, it's certainly worse than everything I saw last year!

I totally agree with you. There were many moms based on the audience at the cinema..I suppose that they loved it too..:) Me and my friend were the only men..When we saw the white horse, we realised that something was wrong. Colin's movies are so hit or miss..Surely, Jennifer Conelly didn't help it at all. She had a small role too. I don't want to remember Will Smith's appearance..It was tragic. The whole meaning was certainly for romantic people..I don't think that i'm not romantic but i believe that there is also a logical explanation for life too.

 

I think that 2013 had great movies. But i found "After Earth" worse than "Winter's Tale". The latter couldn't be a good movie because of the scenario. I would suggest you to watch "The Selfish Giant". It's a British Film. I'm sure that you will like it and your mom will adore it. Trust me.
