Mikey’s Top 40 Bullet Chart

Chart #177 – 23/09/2007

The top 2 remain the same for the second week with the Stereophonics at No.1 with ‘It Means Nothing’ taken from their soon to be release new album ‘Pull The Pin’ and Peter Bjorn and John at No.2 with ‘Young Folks’ collaborating with Victoria Bergsman of the Concretes, This track seems like a oddity in the chart, the whistling is very addictive and its quite a rarity to have a single that lodges in your head after a few listens. The Enemy move up 5 places to No.8 with ‘You’re Not Alone’ taken from their debut album ‘We’ll Live and Die In These Town’, one of my favourite new bands of the year. The girls Heidi, Keisha & Amelle otherwise known as the Sugababes climb 16 places to No.4 with their infectious new slow number ‘All About You’ taken from their new studio album ‘Changes’. The Sheffield four piece band Milburn are ready to take on the charts again with '(What Will You Do) When The Money Goes?’ is an explosive statement of intent, a real anthem in the waiting. Taken from their forthcoming new studio album ‘These Are The Facts’, climbing inside the top 10 to No.9.

The highest climber of the week climbs 25 places to No.10 for 30 Seconds To Mars is an alternative modern rock band from Los Angeles, California. The band comprises of Jared Leto, vocals and guitar, Shannon Leto, drums, Tomo Milicevic, guitars, and Matt Wachter, bass, with their heavy rock laden ballad ‘The Kill’. The band's name "actually comes from a thesis that the band found online that was written by a former Harvard professor. And one of the subsections of the thesis was titled 'thirty seconds to mars' and he goes on to talk about the expediential growth of technology that relates to humans and saying that we are quite literally thirty seconds to mars”. The track can also be found on their studio album ‘A Beautiful Lie’.

The highest new entry of 6 come from The Hoosiers, following hot of the wheels of ‘Worried About Ray’ with ‘Goodbye Mr. A’, in at No.18. And is a beast of a track set to takeover the airways, with melodic brass and riffs that will literally rip your face off before stapling it back on with choral harmonies more suited to late seventies Uberpop. The single will be closely followed by the band's debut studio album ‘The Trick To Life’ out in October. Gwen Stefani, Manic Street Preachers, The Coral, Kate Nash and Katie Melua make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s top 40 Chart.

Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart

Chart #178 – 30/09/2007

Chart Commentary

Stereophonics remain at No.1 for a third week with ‘It Means Nothing’, while the Sugababes climbs a further 2 places to No.4 with their new infectious single ‘All About You’ taken from their fifth studio album ‘Changes’. 30 Seconds To Mars, picks up speed and climbs up 7 places to 3 with a gothic kind of ballad ‘The Kill’. The Hoosiers make a jump inside the top 10 at No.7, with their new single ‘Goodbye Mr A’, which is the follow up single to ‘Worried About Ray’, both singles can be found on their debut studio album ‘Trick To Life’ which is available next month.

The Foo Fighters have been climbing up the chart fairly slowly, this week they have gathered speed and break inside the top 10 at No.8, taken from their new sixth studio album ‘Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace’. The highest new entry of 6 comes from a Glaswegian for 19 year old singer- songwriter, by the name of Amy MacDonald her follow up single to ‘Mr Rock And Roll’ with ‘L.A.’, in at No.21. Another great tune from such a remarkable young lady, she is fresh and very easy on the ear to listen to.

Feist, Jennifer Lopez,, Arctic Monkeys, Biffy Clyro and The Hives make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s top 40 Chart. Will Sugababes climb that extra position next week or will 30 Seconds to Mars rob The Sugababes of a No.1, tune in again this time next week to find out.

Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart

Chart #179 – 07/10/2007

Chart Commentary

It seems this week it’s the turn of the Sugababes, earn themselves another No.1 with ‘All About You’ after ‘Push The Button’ peaked at No.1 in my personal chart exactly 2 years ago this week, how spooky is that. 30 Seconds To Mars move up a place to No.2 with ‘The Kill’ while last week’s No.1 for Stereophonics falls to No.3 this week with ‘It Means Nothing’.

Canadian songstress Feist has won many friends over the past few weeks with her wonderfully unclassifiable and infectious number of ‘1234’ which is heavily used to the theme tune to the iPod Nano TV commercial, can also be found on their album ‘Reminder’. The single rockets 17 places up the chart to No.7 earning itself as the highest climber of the week.

How do you follow up a single like ‘Mr Rock ‘n’ Roll’ quite easily for the 19-year-old Glaswegian singer-songwriter Amy MacDonald sitting comfortably at No.9 this week with her new single ‘L.A.’, taken from her debut studio album ‘This Is The Life’. Her voice is well crafted and easy to listen and her album is a breath of fresh air.

The highest new entry of 5 comes from Mark Ronson, featuring the powerhouse vocals of eminent songstress Amy Winehouse on his new single ‘Valerie’, which can also be found on his studio album ‘Version’. ‘Valerie’ was originally recorded by The Zutons last year and peaked at No.9 in the official chart for the band.

Oasis, The Wombats, Mika and Linkin’ Park make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s top 40 Chart. Will Sugababes hold on to the No.1 spot for a second week, or will it be snatched by 30 Seconds To Mars or Mark Ronson unless Oasis make a giant leap to the top, tune in again this time next week.

Sugababes remain at No.1 for a second week with ‘About You Now’ taken from their new released album ‘Changes’, hot on the heels at No.2 is Mark Ronson featuring the vocals of Amy Winehouse on the Zutons hit ‘Valerie’ the track can also be found on Mark Ronson’s album ‘Version’, while 30 Seconds To Mars slips a place to No.3 with ‘The Kill’ taken from their album ‘A Beautiful Lie’. Feist continues to climb up the chart to No.4 with ‘1234’, can also be found on their studio album ‘The Reminder’. There are hardly any big climbers inside the top 10 this week, the highest climber surfaces at No.19 for The Wombats climbing 16 places from the highly addictive track ‘Let’s Dance To Joy Division’, taken from their debut studio album ‘Wombats Presents A Guide To Love Loss And Desperation’. The highest new entry of 7 enters inside the top 10 at No.8 for The Freemasons featuring the vocals from Bailey Tzuke on the haunting dance tune of the year ‘Uninvited’. The track originally recorded by Alanis Morissette, which can also be found on her Collection album. Bailey Tzuke is the daughter of the 80s legendary folk singer Judie Tzuke. Another new entry inside the top 10 comes for Gary, Mark, Howard and Jason better known as Take That in at No.10 with their new track ‘Rule The World’ for the latest epic big screen production from acclaimed film director Matthew Vaughn for Paramount Pictures called 'Stardust'. Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart

Chart #181 – 21/10/2007

Chart Commentary

What do I have this week at No.1… its Mark Ronson climbing a place with the old Zuton’s hit ‘Valerie’ vocals are done by Amy Winehouse, and The Freemasons climb 6 places to No.2 with ‘Uninvited’ with an unusual cover of an old Alanis Morissette hit, vocals on the cover features Bailey Tzuke the daughter of Judie Tzuke, while the Sugababes slip 2 places to No.3 with ‘All About You’.

Leona Lewis is back inside this week’s top 10 at No.7 with ‘Bleeding Love’ taken from her highly anticipated debut studio album ‘Spirit’. Leona Lewis was the first X Factor winner with international potential. In December 2006 she won the X Factor and had a massive Christmas Number 1 hit with 'A Moment Like This', the most downloaded track in the UK of last year, with an amazing 50,000 downloads in the first half hour alone. This immediately thrust Leona to having the biggest ever debut single for a female artist.

One of my favourite tracks of the year has to be ‘With Every Heartbeat’ by Robyn which narrowly missed the number one spot, by peaking at No.2 early in the year, now she is back in the top 10 with her follow up track ‘Handle Me’ climbing 17 places to No.10. The highest new entry of 5 enters the chart at No.19 for the American singer-songwriter Alicia Keys best remembered for her piano based haunting ballad track ‘Falling’. This time round she releases ‘No One’, the track can also be found on her new studio album ‘As I Am’, the vocals on the track are faultless, and truly inspirational to any music listeners.

Hard Fi, Britney Spears, Duran Duran and the Cribs, make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s top 40 chart. Onto next week, will Kylie make a big splash in the chart with her new single ‘2 Hearts’ or will Mark Ronson manage a second week at the top, other competition comes from Freemasons, Take That, Leona Lewis, or will Robyn go and better her previous attempt set by ‘With Every Heartbeat’, don’t touch that dial tune in again this time next week.

Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart

Chart #182 – 28/10/2007

Chart Commentary

This week Mark Ronson remains at No.1 for a second week, featuring the vocals of Amy Winehouse with ‘Valerie’. The Freemasons remain at No.2 for a second week with ‘Uninvited’ featuring the vocals of Bailey Tzuke. Leona Lewis climbs 4 places up the chart to No.3 with her second single ‘Bleeding Love’ taken from her forthcoming debut studio album ‘Spirit’.

The highest climber of the week goes to 25 year-old American singer-songwriter Alicia Keys, climbs 11 places to No.8 with her emotional ballad ‘No One’ taken from her forthcoming studio album ‘As I Am’.

The highest new entry of 6 comes in the beautiful shape of Kylie Minogue who comes back with a pop and gigantic masterpiece of '2 Hearts'. Collaborating with everyone from Calvin Harris to Groove Aramada, from Cathy Dennis to Guy Chambers, the return of Kylie is as spectacular as we all imagined it would be after her battle with breast cancer. This eagerly anticipated album ‘X’ will be her tenth studio release, and first since 2003's 'Body Language', and is kick-started by the infectious show stopping first single '2 Hearts' is the sort of showstopping comeback we've come to expect from the Princess of Pop, who reinvents herself once again for 2007.

Nelly Furtado, Avril Lavigne, Kaiser Chiefs, Hot Chip and Jimmy Eats World make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s Top 40 Chart. Onto next week, will Leona stop Kylie from getting a No.1, or will Freemasons edge one more step to No.1, don’t touch that dial tune in again this time next week.

Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart

Chart #183 – 04/11/2007

Chart Commentary

After 2 weeks at the top Mark Ronson makes a hefty fall to No.5 with ‘Valerie’ and makes way for Leona Lewis to grab all the attention this week at No.1, taken from her debut studio album ‘Spirit’ which probably end up the biggest selling album for a debut artist this year. After just 1 week Kylie climbs 5 places to No.2 with her new single ‘2 Hearts’ taken from her tenth studio album ‘X’. After peaking at No.2 with ‘With Every Heartbeat’, Robyn settles for a No.3 position with ‘Handle Me, another uplifting track from her studio album ‘Robyn’.

Having shot to Number 1 with ‘Once Upon A Time In The West’ – one of the definitive albums of the year – and dominated airwaves this summer. The West London four-piece Hard-Fi return with the blazing new single ‘Can’t Get Along (Without You)’ the follow-up single to ‘Suburban Knights’. The second song to be taken from their critically acclaimed 12-track LP, it’s a rousing modern classic that grips from the very first listen.

'Falling Down' marks the much-anticipated return of Duran Duran. Co-written and produced by Justin Timberlake, 'Falling Down' is taken from the band’s eagerly awaited new album 'Red Carpet Massacre'. Already recognised by both fans and critics alike as a pivotal song in the band’s illustrious 25-year career, 'Falling Down' was the last track to be written and recorded for their new album that has been a year in the making with producer’s Timbaland, Nate ‘Danja’ Hills and long-time Duran Duran fan, Justin Timberlake at the helm.

The highest new entry of 6 enters the chart at No.20 for Bloc Party, with their new release ‘Flux’ from their second debut album ‘A Weekend In The City’. It’s a weird change of pace for the band, although they’ve always been on the dancier side of Indie. This song is definitely heading more down the pure electronica road, which does work surprisingly well for Kele’s voice, and the style of the band as a whole.

Maximo Park, My Chemical Romance, Within Temptation, The Pigeon Detectives and The Emeny make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s top 40 chart. As for next week Kylie looks hot favourite to topple Leona unless Leona holds on for a second week, unless Robyn snatches her first No.1 in my personal chart.

Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart

Chart #184 – 11/11/2007

Chart Commentary

The top 5 are dominated by females this week, with a new No.1 from the Australian born Kylie Minogue with her comeback single ‘2 Hearts’ taken from her new album ‘X’. Mark Ronson with Amy Winehouse climb back up the chart to No.2 with ‘Valerie’ while Leona drops from her No.1 position to No.3 with ‘Bleeding Love’. Bloc Party keep on climbing up the chart to No.10 with their brand new release ‘Flux’ taken from their second debut album ‘A Weekend In The City’.

After many years of speculation and rumour, one of Britain's biggest ever global success stories announced their reunion tour to the world's media. Eleven years after they began to re-write the record books as one of the biggest selling girl groups of all time, Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell aka The Spice Girls announced the tour, spanning six continents to over four hundred of the world's media. Their first single ‘Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)’ taken from Greatest Hits package which is available soon, is the highest new entry at No.7. All proceeds of the single are donated to this year’s Children In Need Appeal Fund.

Rihanna feat. Ne-Yo, T2 feat. Jodie, Athlete, The Twang, and Craig David make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s Top 40 chart. As for next week, will Kylie hang on to her No.1 position for a second week, or will Robyn go one step further up the chart to No.1 unless the Spice Girls or Alicia Keys pull a rabbit out of a hat.

Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart

Chart #185 – 18/11/2007

Chart Commentary

Kylie remains at No.1 for a second week with her first single ‘2 hearts’ lifted from her tenth studio album ‘X’, Mark Ronson remains at No.2 for a second week with the highly contagious ‘Valerie’ featuring the vocals of Amy Winehouse. Alicia Keys moves further up the chart to No.3 with her beautiful laden ballad ‘No One’. She has enjoyed great success since her 2001 multi-platinum debut, 'Songs In A Minor', which gave the world an introduction to her formidable range of talents. Alicia has gone from strength to strength with 2003's follow-up 'The Diary Of Alicia Keys' and 'Unplugged', in 2005. 'As I Am', the singer/songwriter's third studio album, contains soulful lyrics and exquisite jazz-influenced piano playing that pulls on the heart-strings of the listener.

Robyn remains as a non mover at No.5 with ‘Handle Me’ while the Spice Girls only manage a 2 place climb to No.5 with ‘Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)’, taken from their compilation studio album ‘Greatest Hits’ re-unite for a unique World Tour this December, and a definitive TV Documentary. And further down the chart Hard-Fi re-enter the top 10 with their new track ‘Can’t Get Along (Without You)’ at No.10.

The highest new entry of 6 comes from Kylie’s sister that goes by the name of Dannii Minogue, and can be seen on this year’s X Factor TV series as a TV judge for the first time mentoring the boys category, her new single enters the chart at No.19, collaborating with Jason Nevins on ‘Touch Me Like That’. Girls Aloud, Remi Nicole, Arctic Monkeys, Paramore and the Editors make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s Top 40 chart.

Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart

Chart #186 – 26/11/2007

Chart Commentary

This week the top 3 remain unchanged, Kylie is beautifully perched at No.1 with ‘2 Hearts’, Mark Ronson with the help of Amy Winehouse stays at No.2 with ‘Valerie’ and Alicia Keys also a non mover at No.3 with ‘No One’. Hardly any movers inside the top 10 this week, the first comes from T2, a 5 place climb to No.8 with ‘Heartbroken’, one of the biggest 4x4 bassline anthems on the road right now featuring the vocal talents of Jodie. Maximo Park climb inside the top 10 at No.10 with ‘Karaoke Plays’ the fourth single taken from their studio album ‘Our Earthly Pleasures’. Maximo Park continue to develop with their slower percussion driven rhythms and deep-hearted, lyrical lament; "Oh, I waited up for you, but you didn't come back home. Oh, I waited up for you, couldn't you come back home?". Paul Smith manages to pitch his endearing and sincere cries at such a level that balances feeling and passion with clear delivery that strides alongside the coasting and winding accompaniment. The highest new entry of 5 comes from the Foo Fighters, with their new single ‘Long Road To Ruin’ residing at No.12, its their second siongle to be taken off their sixth studio album ‘Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace’. The reminder of the new entries come from Reverend & The Makers, Maroon 5, Arctic Monkeys and Operator Please in this week’s top 40 chart.

Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart

Chart #187 – 2/12/2007

Chart Commentary

Kylie spends a 4th week at No.1 with ‘2 Hearts’ on the back of her album ‘X’ which is released this week, her first studio album since she was diagnosed with cancer in 2005 and the follow-up to 2003's 'Body Language'. The stand out tracks has to be ‘The One’, ‘Speakerphone’, ‘Nu-d-ity’, ‘Love Is A Drug’ and so many others, I can’t even find a bad track on the album its dynamite, more than dynamite, explosive!

Nadine, Cheryl, Kimberley, Sarah and Nicola aka Girls Aloud jump 11 places to No.2 with their infectious new track ‘Call The Shots’ taken from their fourth studio album ‘Tangled Up’ its pumped with fun, cheeky songs that will appeal to everyone As for ‘Call The Shots’ its one of their best singles to date, the track reminds me of an earlier SAW production pre-80s era. Mark Ronson spends a ninth week in the top 5, at No.3 featuring the sultry vocals of Amy Winehouse on ‘Valerie’.

The Foo Fighters emerge inside the top 10 at No.4, with ‘Long Road To Ruin’, taken from ‘Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace’. Unbeknownst to most Nirvana fans, drummer David Grohl was also a singer/guitarist/songwriter who wrote numerous songs on his own during his tenure with the band. After Kurt Cobain's death in 1994, Grohl decided to head out on his own and formed the Foo Fighters, where he assumed frontman duties. Virtually an instant success.

The highest new entry of 6 comes from Amy Winehouse with her new single ‘Love Is A Losing Game’ in at No.12. Displaying the marked influence of 1960s soul music, Phil Spector girl groups, and classic Motown, the album ‘Back To Black’ also boasted clever, sexually explicit lyrics and punchy pop arrangements, all pulled together by Winehouse's superb vocal talent. The album has racked up over a million copies to date since its first inception 13 months ago and remains the biggest selling album of 2007 so far.

The Enemy, Interpol, Babyshambles, Peter Gelderblom and Kate Nash make up the new entries in this week’s Top 40 chart. Will Girls Aloud earn themselves their first No.1 in my personal chart next week or will The Foo Fighters upset the applecart unless Mark Ronson can hit home again with ‘Valerie’ or will it be Amy Winehouse with ‘Love Is A Losing Game’, tune in next week and find out.

Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart

Chart #188 – 9/12/2007

Chart Commentary

Last week’s highest new entry, is this week’s new No.1 from Amy Winehouse with her new track ‘Love Is A Losing Game’ taken from her record breaking million selling album ‘Back To Black’. The single is very bluesy and very motown-ish and it’s a breath of fresh air. Kylie slips a place to No.2 after 4 weeks at the top with ‘2 Hearts’ while the Foo Fighters manage a 1-place climb to No.3, with ‘Long Road To Ruin’.

2007 has been an unbelievable year for The Enemy; the boys from Coventry saw their debut album go straight into the UK charts at No.1 and spawn three Top 20 chart hits. They also recently won ‘Best New Band’ at the prestigious 2007 Q Awards beating off fierce competition from the likes of The Twang and Pigeon Detectives, sold out three UK tours, and supported some of Rock’s royalty in the form of The Stereophonics, Manic Street Preachers and Kasabian to name a few. Therefore, what better way to finish off the year than by releasing the title track from the album 'We’ll Live and Die in These Towns' which comfortably hogs the No.10 position this week.

The highest new entry of 5 comes from Keisha, Heidi and Amelle better know as the Sugababes, these 3 sassy girls know how to make a hit single each time they release a new track, ‘Change’ is another addictive and infectious track taken from their studio album ‘Change’. Change enters the chart at No.7, and the 'Babes emerge as a hugely successful pop act in the U.K to date, notching up some great No.1 classics like ‘Round Round’, ‘Hole In The Head’, ‘Push The Button’ and more.

The Pogues feat. Kirsty MacColl, Stereophonics, Amy MacDonald and Ernie K-Doe make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s top 40 Chart.

Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart

Chart #188 – 16/12/2007

Chart Commentary

Amy Winehouse remains at No.1 for a second week with ‘Love Is A Losing Game’, Sugababes move up 5 places to No.2 with ‘Change’ the titled track of their new studio album of the same name, the highest climber of the week up 17 places to No.3 are The Pogues featuring the vocals of the late Kirsty MacColl on ‘Fairytale Of New York’, the track is exactly 20 years old this week it first entered the official chart in 1987 which peaked at No.2. Bloc Party is having a mini revival by climbing up the chart 2 places at No.7 with ‘Flux’, taken from their second studio album ‘Weekend In The City’.

After a huge clearout the highest new entry of 8 comes from Mika with his fourth single ‘Relax, Take It Easy’ in at No.11, from his debut studio album ‘Life In Cartoon Motion’ which has sold just under a million mark, it should reach over the million mark by the end of the year quite easily. Also in the chart Mika’s second chart entry with ‘Lollipop’, enters the chart at No.23, while ‘Happy Ending’ is still in the chart at No.38 after 11 weeks.

This week the chart has some added Christmas tracks in the mix from Andy Williams ‘It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year’ this track is featured on the new Marks & Spencer’s TV ad campaign, Wham! ‘Last Christmas’ makes a welcome return and one old favourite of mine Jona Lewie ‘Stop The Cavalry’. Gwen Stefani, Lauren Rose and the White Stripes make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s Top 40 chart.

Will Amy remain at No.1 for a third week, or will the Sugababes take the plunge into No.1 territory unless The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl cause the cookie jar to topple, and give them the extra push towards a Christmas No.1, tune in next week and find out.

Mikey’s Top 40 Christmas Reload Chart

Chart #189 – 23/12/2007

Chart Commentary

No move at the top this week for Amy Winehouse she remains at No.1 for a third week with ‘Love Is A Losing Game’ taken from a million selling album ‘Back To Black’. Sugababes ‘Change’ and The Pogues feat. Kirsty MacColl ‘Fairytale Of New York’ remain unchanged for a second week. Kate Nash makes an appearance in the top 10 at No.6 with her new single ‘Pumpkin Soup’ taken from her chart-topping debut album 'Made Of Bricks'.

The sensuous pop song sees Kate Nash mature in both sound and style with her latest release. Pop crooner Andy Williams came to be known as "the Emperor of Easy" for his smooth, silky tone and understated vocal style. Williams was a virtual hit machine throughout the '60s, from the stop-time melancholy of "Can't Get Used to Losing You” to the uptempo, brassy "Music to Watch Girls By". Williams was also a TV star, whose Christmas specials became an American tradition. His latest single ‘It’s the Most Wonderful Time Of The Year’ can be heard as a theme tune to the latest Marks & Spencer Christmas TV ad, very catchy, smooth and laid back number which sits comfortably at the bottom of the top 10 at No.10.

The highest new entry of 5 comes in at No.9 for one young lady Swedish pop diva Robyn who has already notched 2 top 10 hits in my personal chart early in the year with ‘With Every Heartbeat and ‘Handle Me’. Her new single ‘Be Mine’ is another catchy electro pop tune in the making, and can also be found on her self-titled studio album ‘Robyn’. British Sea power, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Wizzard and Scouting For Girls make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s top 40 Chart

Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart

Chart #189 – 30/12/2007

Chart Commentary

Amy Winehouse remains at No.1 for a 4th week with ‘Love Is A Losing Game’ taken from her best selling album of the year ‘Back To Black’ other outstanding tracks from the album are ‘Tears Dry On Their Home’, ‘Rehab’ and ‘Wake Up Alone’, one of the best albums of the year. Another week at No.2 for three sassy girls Keisha, Heidi and Amelle better known as the Sugababes with ‘Change’ taken from their album of the same name as the single, and notable tracks on the album are ‘Denial’ and the addictive ‘About You Now’ I can’t even spot a bad track on the album, its quite a poppy album and easy to listen to. Robyn moves up 6 places to No.3 with her brand new single ‘Be Mine’, another stand out track from her after 2 top 10 hits earlier in the year in my personal chart with ‘With Every Heartbeat’ and ‘Handle Me’. All three tracks can also be found on her self titled album ‘Robyn’. The highest new entry of 7 enters the chart at No.4 for an upcoming fresh new talent and probably the face of 2008, by the name of Adele, she follows her last hit ‘ Hometown Glory’ with ‘Chasing Pavements taken from her forthcoming debut studio album ‘19’. 2008 will be her year, one of the best new music artist to hit our British music industry; she is also up for a new Brit Award as the Critics Choice of 2008. The highest climber of the week goes to Brighton’s UK based indie quartet, British Sea Power at No.12 with ‘Waving Flags’ taken from their new studio album ‘Do You Like Rock Music’. The Maccabees, Radiohead, Hot Chip, Lily Allen (…and yes Mister Blue Sky is a cover version of the ELO 80s hit Mr. Blue Sky), Booty Luv and The Wombats make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s Top 40 Chart. And check out the new feature added to my top 40 weekly chart, exclusive track of the week.

Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart

Chart #189 – 06/01/2008

Chart Commentary

Amy Winehouse remains at No.1 for a fifth week with ‘Love Is A Losing Game’, Adele moves up 2 places to No.2 with ‘Chasing Pavements’ and Sugababes down a place to No.3. Glaswegian singer-songwriter Amy MacDonald continues up the chart and lands inside the top 10 at No.7 after 5 weeks in the chart with ‘This Is The Life’ taken from the album of the same name. Key tracks on the album are ‘Barrowland Ballroom’, ‘Run’ and the single ‘This Is The Life’. I would recommend this album to anyone, if you like Amy MacDonald’s music it would make a great addition to your record collection.

Brighton, UK based indie quartet, British Sea Power moves up a further 4 places to No.8 with ‘Waving Flags’. They made their recording debut in July 2001 with the single "Fear Of Drowning"/"A Wooden Horse", released on the band’s own label Golden Chariot. A recording contract with UK independent Rough Trade Records ensued, with the quartet making their debut for the label in December with "Remember Me". By 2003 the band had expanded their line-up to a five-piece with the addition of keyboard player Eamon. Their debut album ‘The Decline Of British Sea Power’ emerged the same June and was hailed as one of the year’s most impressive releases. British Sea Power’s next single "It Ended On An Oily Stage" appeared in March 2005, and preceded the release of the band’s second album, ‘Open Season’. A more cohesive and accessible collection than their debut, the album reached number 13 on the UK album charts.

Another Brighton based group The Maccabees comes a change in direction - a brilliantly executed, stripped-down, strung-up change in direction. New single 'Toothpaste Kisses' gives us a rare chance to admire the vocal tones of Orlando Weeks and diversifies the group further, climbs inside the top 10 at No.9.

The highest new entry of 6 at No.15 comes from Mark Brown featuring Sarah Cracknell (from the band Saint Etienne) on vocals to the stunning new single ‘The Journey Continues’, which utilises the theme tune of the Lloyd’s TV Advert as a sample to a great effect. A number one track in the making totally inspiring and takes your breath away. Bjork, Mutya feat. Amy Winehouse, One Night Only, The Hoosiers and Jennifer Lopez, make up the rest of the new entries inside the top 40.

TRACK OF THE WEEK

Video: Mark Brown feat. Sarah Cracknell – The Journey Continues

Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart

Chart #190 – 13/01/2008

Chart Commentary

This week Amy Winehouse 'Love Is A Losing Game' matches the record for having the most consecutive 6 weeks run at No.1 with Madonna's track 'Hung Up'. My first ever No.1 was Anastacia ‘Left Outside Alone’ just for 2 weeks.

Back on track, Adele remains at No.2 for a second week with ‘Chasing Pavements’ while Robyn climbs back up a notch at No.3 with ‘Be Mine’. The highest climber of the week climbs 11 places for Mark Brown featuring the vocals of Lisa Cracknell (from the band Saint Etienne), on ‘The Journey Continues’ at No.5.

One of the standout tracks from the most talked about album of the year, 'Jigsaw Falling Into Place' has been hailed as one of the real standouts on 'In Rainbows' from Radiohead, climbs inside the top 10 at No.8. Claustrophobic, haunting and without any of the daft nonsense that ruined Kid A and co., this is the sound of one of the world's best bands shedding their inhibitions about selling records and just making great music again.

The highest new entry of 4 comes in at No.20 for Biffy Clyro, since the release of their latest album “Puzzle” has enjoyed a much deserved wave of success. This is the 6th single off ‘Puzzle’ if you count download only ‘Semi-mental’ and it just seems like a bit of enough is enough on this album. Typically, you always go with your strongest material early on in the single releasing campaign so naturally ‘Who's Got A Match?’ is a fine album track and just ends right there. I would of rather of seen ‘Semi-mental’ given the full single treatment as I have forgotten how good of a song this is. If you haven't purchased “Puzzle” by now, no time like now and surely you can find it in some sale bins.

Client, Jack Johnson and Lupe Fiasco featuring Matthew Santos make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s top 40 chart. Will Amy remain at No.1 for a seventh week, or will Robyn finally have her deserved No.1 track, unless Adele can stir up some trouble in the top 4 next week and the hotly tipped track by Mark Brown featuring the vocals of Sarah Cracknell, tune in next week and all will be revealed.

Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart

Chart #191 – 20/01/2008

Chart Commentary

After 6 weeks at No.1 for Amy Winehouse falls to No.3 with Love Is A Losing Game’, this week’s sees a new No.1 for Robyn, 'Be Mine' is arguably Robyn's finest pop moment after her last hit ‘Handle Me’ peaked at No.3 and still in the top 40 this week at No.36. A song depicting intense unrequited love, 'Be Mine' is just beautiful. Adele is still unable to crack the top spot, by remaining at No.2 for a third week with ‘Chasing Pavements’ taken from her debut studio album ‘19’.

'Ready For The Floor’ will be the first single from Hot Chip’s forthcoming album ‘Made In The Dark’, climbs 6 places to No.7. ‘The Warning’ proved Hot Chip have an uncanny skill for creating wide screen pop music that pushes the boundaries of what music can be. ‘Ready For The Floor’ is no exception: a glorious mix of dance floor grooves and folkish pop that is instantly intoxicating. Amid the weird and wonderful noises, Kautrock tendencies and their affinity for 2 step garage, Hot Chip have always maintained a strong pop sensibility and ‘Ready For The Floor’ is arguably their most accessible track yet, a pop nugget and no mistake.

The highest new entry of 8 comes from Goldfrapp in at No.5. The story told on the album's first single, titled "A&E," is a good example of that. Alison sings about a "bright blue Saturday" after an "accident and emergency." There's no cloud in the sky and she looks back at a bad situation that made her "feeling blue" and the singer concludes that finally "the pain has started to slip away" even though she admits there might be "pills at work." The song captures a moment of clarity as if she just woke up from a bad dream and can think rationally about what happened to her. "A&E" is one of the most radio-friendly tracks on Goldfrapp's new studio album ‘The Seventh Tree’. That starry build up and Alison's soaring vocals around the 1-minute mark gave me goose bumps down my spine every time.

It’s beautifully written and the vocals are so pitch perfect. After a huge clearout of deadwood 7 more new entries from The Feeling, Rihanna, Supergrass, 30 Seconds To Mars, Laura Marling, The Courtneers and Boy Kill Boy make up this week’s top 40 chart.

TRACK OF THE WEEK

Goldfrapp – A & E

Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart

Chart #192 – 27/01/2008

Chart Commentary

No budging Robyn this week she hangs on for a second week at No.1 with ‘Be Mine’, while Goldfrapp move up to No.2 with “A & E”, taken from their forthcoming studio album ‘The Seventh Tree’. Essex band The Feeling are back in the top 10 this week with their brand new infectious track ‘I Thought It Was Over’ up 4 places to No.7, taken from their second studio album 'Join With Us' which features the single as well. Picking up where debut 'Twelve Stops And Home' left off, the band take their blend of 70s influenced soft rock and pop to subtle new heights. Recalling ELO, Queen and Yes, hopefully this will be another well-crafted album packed with sing-along hits and memorable melodies.

‘Don’t Stop The Music’ is the second single from Rihanna that has charted in my personal chart, this week its her first top 10 hit in my personal chart at No.10. The track samples a Michael Jackson track ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Something’ and uses it to a great effect, to make it an infectious little ditty track, the track can also be found on her album ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’, along with the second biggest selling single of 2007 ‘Umbrella’.

The highest new entry of 5 enters the chart at No.9 for a fresh new talent by the name of Duffy ‘Mercy’ is one of those tracks, that you cannot get out of your head once it gets going, the drums just lodges into your brain. In 2004, Duffy came to the attention of Rough Trade’s Jeannette Lee who became both her manager and her mentor. Duffy spent the next couple years honing and developing her song writing skills all the while discovering hidden musical gems that inspired her, taken from her forthcoming debut studio album ‘Rockferry’. Also her debut single ‘Rockferry’ makes another surprising new entry for Duffy in at No.26.

Kate Rusby, Remi Nicole, Mary J. Blige and David Jordan make up this week’s new entries in the top 40 chart.

Chart Commentary

Not a lot of changes this week, but it’s all change at the top, Goldfrapp leap a place to No.1 with ‘A & E’ taken from their forthcoming studio album ‘The Seventh Tree’, while Robyn slips a place to No.2 with ‘Be Mine’, Mark Brown is still jostling for a No.1 position, but only creeps up a place to No.3 with vocals from Sarah Cracknell, once member of Saint Etienne on ‘The Journey Continues’ the track utilises the theme tune to the Lloyds TV ad to a great effect and creates a haunting dance track on the ears. The Feeling creep up a few more places to No.4 with ‘I Thought It Was All Over’ and finally Duffy fills the top 5 at No.5 with ‘Mercy’.

Scottish Alternative rock band Biffy Clyro climb inside the top 10 at No.9 with ‘Who’s Got A Match’ it’s the sixth single to be taken from their ‘Puzzle’ LP. It's over before you know it too, which is as much a good thing as a bad one! "I'm a fire and I'll burn, burn, burn tonight! I'm a fire and I'll burn, burn, burn tonight!" What else would you do if you were a fire? I wonder who actually does have a match!?

The highest new entry of 4 comes from a beautiful pop sensation by the name of Kylie Minogue, with her new infectious single ‘Wow’, I just wish this was the lead single of the album she released, its 10 times better than ‘2 Hearts’, the track can also be found on her ‘X’ LP, The track slides in at No.14 and the 'Wow-Wooow-Woooow-Wooooow' effect on the chorus will undoubtedly be the catchiest lyrics to date once they are lodged into your head.

We Are Scientists, Kelly Rowland and Marina Topley-Bird, make up the reminder of the new entries in this week’s Top 40 Chart. Finally a little mention for Robyn, ‘Handle Me’ is back on the rebound and leaps back inside the top 30 this week at No.30, the track won’t go away, I guess its having the album effect, as the album is truly a gem, I finally gone and got it.
