February 8, 200817 yr Author Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #194 – 10/02/2008 Chart Commentary No change at No.1 this week, Goldfrapp hold on to the top spot for a second with ‘A & E’, Mark Brown climbs another place to No.2 with Sarah Cracknell on vocals to ‘The Journey Continues’, which utilises the theme tune to the Lloyds TSB TV commercial. Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue started out as an actress, working on the TV show Neighbours, whose UK popularity eventuated the young singer taking up with megapop production team Stock, Aitken & Waterman. With that titanic trio behind her, Kylie became the queen of the British pop charts, scoring hit after hit. Though Kylie reigned supreme in the UK, establishing a Madonna-like presence on records and in films, she never took off in America until her 2002 album ‘Fever’ finally made her a US dance-pop diva. In Spring 2005, whilst touring her Greatest Hits, to No.4, taken from her tenth album entitled ‘X’. While her new infectious track ‘Wow’ continues to climb up the chart to No.4. Laura Marling's new single, Ghosts, climbs 6 places to No.7. The song is a simple tale of a young couple and the baggage of past relationships: "the ghosts that broke my heart before I met you". Marling deftly captures the mixed feelings of trepidation and hope that infuse budding relationships without ever slipping into the trap of poetry. And the weirdly reassuring refrain of "it's not like I believe in ever lasting love" suggests a world-weariness that far exceeds what you might expect from a 17 year old. The deceptively simple lyrics and complex emotions are delivered with a hypnotic guitar line and understated vocal that swells to a heart busting orchestral and choral climax. ‘Ghosts’ is a remarkably affecting song in every respect and sets to win over a new audience of music listeners for 2008. The highest new entry of 5 comes from Kanye West, first gained fame as an acclaimed hip-hop producer, working with Jay-Z, Foxy Brown, Mase, and others. West's solo debut was delayed due to a serious car accident, but when ‘The College Dropout’ finally appeared in 2004, it took the hip-hop world by storm with its combination of old-school R&B samples, inventive contemporary production, and clever rhymes. His new single Homecoming features vocals from Chris Martin in at No.17, the track can also be found on his ‘Graduation’ LP. Hard Fi, Amy MacDonald, Alicia Keys and Mark Ronson featuring Alex Greenwald make up the reminder of the new entries in this week’s Top 40 Chart. Will Kylie steal the No.1 position next week, or will Goldfrapp remain for a third week, with Mark Brown kicking his heels one step closer to the No.1 spot, reserve a seat here and tune in next week, same time, same channel and don’t touch that dial. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c182/MickeyGrech/Scorecards/tmpphpAW3ksj1.jpg http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CDTIVS267.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELCDSRO.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CDR6754.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELSSDUFS.JPG 01 (01) Goldfrapp – A & E [4wks] (5-2-1-1) 02 (03) Mark Brown feat. February 15, 200817 yr Author Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #195 – 17/02/2008 Chart Commentary Goldfrapp remain at No.1 for a third week with ‘A&E’, while Kylie moves up the chart to No.2 with ‘Wow’ and Duffy secures a top 3 hit at No.3 with ‘Mercy’. The top 10 remains pretty static this week with The Feeling, Rihanna and Hot Chip, spending 2 weeks at the same position. 30 Seconds To Mars fronted by Hollywood actor Jared Leto, leaps inside the top 10 at No.7 with their follow up single to ‘The Kill’ with ‘From Yesterday’ both tracks can be found on their studio album ‘A Beautiful Lie’. Despite harsh scrutiny from the music press, Jared Leto proved himself a writer of thoughtful, cinematic lyrics and compelling, almost prog-like music that drew inspiration from bands like Radiohead, Pink Floyd, and Nine Inch Nails. The hiighest new entry of 4 comes from Salford’s Ting Tings in at No.21, comprising singer Katie White and drummer Jules De Martino. The elements are all there. Scratchy, Peaches-esque guitar riff? Check. Chorus you’d still be humming after a week in Glasgow with Gallows? Check. Mischievous sense of pop as sonic thrift shop? Check! At its beating heart, peroxide philosopher Katie: "Folks got high at quarter to five/Don’t you feel you’re growing up undone?" she intones cryptically, before gabbling something about "The local DJ" having "some songs to play". At which point Jules triggers the sound of a thousand boxes being hit by a jackhammer and we’re at a chorus that’ll unleash dancefloor serotonin worldwide: "Imagine all the girls/Ah-ah-ah-ah/And the boys/Ah-ah-ah-ah/And the drums/The drums!" They are shaping up nicely as the new band for 2008. Hercules & Love Affair, Visage (aka 80’s icon Steve Strange, the track was featured on BBC1’s new TV Series ‘Ashes to Ashes’) and One Republic make up the reminder of the new entries in this week’s Top 40 Chart. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CDR6754.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELSSDUFS.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CDTIVS267.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELCDSRO.JPG 01 (01) Goldfrapp – A & E [5wks] (5-2-1-1-1) 02 (04) Kylie Minogue – Wow [3wks] (14-4-2) 03 (05) Duffy – Mercy [4wks] (9-5-5-3) 04 (02) Mark Brown feat. February 29, 200817 yr Author Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #197 – 01/03/2008 Chart Commentary Nice short quick commentary this week, and we have a new No.1 from Duffy with ‘Mercy’ taken from her debut studio album ‘Rockferry’, while after a week at the top, Kylie drops a place to No.2 with ‘Wow’ and Goldfrapp remaining at No.3 for a second week with ‘A&E’. We Are Scientists continue to climb to No.4 with ‘After Hours’, and not far behind, Ting Tings ‘Great DJ’ makes up the top 5 at No.5. Climbing inside the top 10 this week are Panic! At The Disco, with their new release from their latest new studio album ‘Pretty Odd’ with their lead single from the album ‘Nine In The Afternoon’, at No.8. Literally going down a different route, than their previous material, probably shaking off their emo image along the way with a rather laid back track rather than a loud thumping one, maybe it’s a good thing or a bad thing, I think they have chosen the right path. The highest new entry of 4 comes from Taio Cruz in at No.16 with a rather infectious, sexy and sultry number ‘Come On Girl’. In fact, this growling, fist-pumping electro-R&B monster is one of the most exciting singles of the year so far and I’m not an avid R&B fan myself. Blessed with brilliantly full, turn-everything-up-to-eleven production, it features its very own "WTF?!" moment when Luciana, the vocalist from Bodyrox' 'Yeah Yeah', turns up for a show-stopping middle 8 cameo. Utah Saints, Leona Lewis and The Foals make up the reminder of the new entries in this week’s Top 40 Chart. Will Duffy hold on for another week at No.1, notable artists to challenge for the top spot in the next few weeks come from We Are Scientists, Panic! At The Disco, and the new track from Taio Cruz which is really very catchy once its stuck in your head. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELSSDUFS.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CDR6754.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/VSCDT1970.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/DFAEMI2192CD.JPG 01 (02) Duffy – Mercy [6wks] (9-5-5-3-2-1) 02 (01) Kylie Minogue – Wow [5wks] (14-4-2-1-2) 03 (03) Goldfrapp – A & E [7wks] (5-2-1-1-1-3-3) 04 (07) We Are Scientists – After Hours [5wks] (32-20-11-7-4) 05 (09) Hercules & Love Affair – Blind [3wks] (26-9-5) 06 (08) The Ting Tings – Great DJ [3wks] (21-8-6) 07 (04) Robyn – Be Mine! Luciana – Come On Girl wupUejV5Mps
March 7, 200817 yr Author Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #198 – 08/03/2008 Chart Commentary No move at No.1 for Duffy, with ‘Mercy’, her debut studio album ‘Rockferry’ is released this week, and its bound to score her first No.1 album in the official album chart this Sunday. Kylie is a non-mover for the second week with ‘Wow’ while We Are Scientists climb up a place to No.3 with ‘After Hours’. This week’s highest climber climbs 12 places to No.4 for Taio Cruz, featuring the vocals of Luciana for a split second towards the end of the track, with ‘Come On Girls’. Its an upbeat, infectious R&B single, once it registers in your brain, you just can’t get the annoying beats out of your head. One Republic have delivered the goods again, this time going solo without Timbaland, with their infectious track ‘Stop and Stare’. When I first heard the track, I thought nothing special, until it registered after a few more listens; the track just simply grew and grew on me. The track is much better than their previous attempt ‘Apologize’ which was a Timbaland collaboration, and earns a place in this week’s top 10 at No.3. MGMT are one of the bands of the moment, encapsulating a shift toward intelligent, epic music, of which ‘Time To Pretend’ is the first marker. ‘Time To Pretend’ at No.8, is the sound off a band taking off and leaving everyone else in their vapour trail. Andrew Vanwyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, for they are MGMT, have described their sound as ‘Future 70s’. MGMT are the antidote, the saviours, bringing their accessible, universal sound to bear on a world in need of a kick. The highest new entry of 6 comes from The Guillemots - Fyfe Dangerfield, Magrao, Aristazabal Hawkes and Greig Stewart, in at No.13, with their new catchy tribal electro pop ‘Get Over It’, the lead single from their forthcoming studio album ‘Red’. The Sugababes, Girls Aloud, The Enemy, The Revelations and Kate Nash, make up the reminder of this week’s new entries inside the top 40 Chart. Will Duffy hold on for another week or will Taio Cruz or even One Republic go and chase for that elusive No.1. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELSSDUFS.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CDR6754.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1763784.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1764408.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/VSCDT1970.JPG 01 (01) Duffy – Mercy [7wks] (9-5-5-3-2-1-1) 02 (02) Kylie Minogue – Wow [6wks] (14-4-2-1-2-2) 03 (14) One Republic – Stop & Stare [4wks] (40-31-14-3) 04 (16) Taio Cruz feat. March 14, 200817 yr Author Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #199 – 15/03/2008 Chart Commentary Duffy remains at No.1 for a third week with ‘Mercy’ taken from a well impressive debut studio album ‘Rockferry’ selling 180,000 copies plus in its initial first week release of her album. One Republic move up within a touching distance of home base at the top with ‘Stop & Stare’ at No.2 while Taio Cruz moves up a place to No.3 with ‘Come On Girl’ with the help from bodyrox girl Luciana. Guillemots move inside the top 10 at No.4 with their highly pop charged infectious single ‘Get Over It’ taken from their soon to be released studio album ‘Red’ is an album of pure, attention-grabbing pop songs that marks a directional departure for them. Heidi, Keisha, Amelle, better known as the Sugababes continue to charge into the top 10 at No.8 with yet again another infectious single ‘Denial’ following on from their previous top 3 attempts of ‘About You Now’ and ‘Change’ in my personal chart last year. These 3 girls really can’t put a foot wrong in the music industry, they have had at least 5 No.1s to their career and continue to make sassy, classy and infectious tunes and survived the emotional changes of different line-ups in their career to date, only Keisha is the longest surviving original member of the group, losing Siobhan and Mutya on the way.5 The highest new entry of 6 comes from the eagerly long awaited band The Kooks, with their new single ‘Always Where I Needed To Be’ and resides at No.20, taken from their soon to be release second sohomore studio album ‘Konk’, named after the London studio where the band have been recording the follow-up to 2006's 'Inside In/Inside Out'. Mystery Jets featuring Laura Marling, Leona Lewis (Footprints In The Sand), Gnarls Barkley, Neon Neon and The Long Blondes make up the rest of this week’s new entries inside the top 40. Will One Republic touch home base next week, or will Duffy hold on for a fourth week, Taio Cruz is still in with a chance, but the Guillemots are coming on strong for a challenge as well, tune in next week, same time, do not touch that dial. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELSSDUFS.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1763784.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1764408.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1760834.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CDR6754.JPG 01 (01) Duffy – Mercy [8wks] (9-5-5-3-2-1-1-1) 02 (03) One Republic – Stop & Stare [5wks] (40-31-14-3-2) 03 (04) Taio Cruz feat. March 21, 200817 yr Author Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #200 – 22/03/2008 Chart Commentary My 200th Personal Chart :cheer: Currently no change at the top for Duffy in her 4th week at No.1 with ‘Mercy’ taken from the best selling album of the year so far ‘Rockferry’, and it deserves to be there, some of her album tracks ‘Warwick Avenue’ and ‘Serious’ deserve to be future singles along with ‘Delayed Devotion’. No more at No.2 for a second week for OneRepublic, with their infectious ballad ‘Stop & Stare, while the Sugababes climb a further 5 place jump to No.3 with ‘Denial’. Futureheads continue to climb inside the top 10 this week at No.8, with ‘The Beginning Of The Twist’. It sounds much like a pop song, the chorus especially, simple lyrics to a catchy melody. Here we have the ‘Heads at their energetic, harmonic and downright Punk best. The music industry is a cruel and unforgiving beast. The Futureheads' 2006 release ‘News and Tributes’ was a brooding masterpiece that should have seen their star rise above their copycat peers. Instead, it was snubbed by the public and the Sunderland four-piece found themselves without a label come the end of the year. Utah Saints march inside the top 10 at No.10, their big hit came in 1992 with 'Something Good' – a song that featured a Kate Bush sample and the pounding, explosive, stupidly simple intro: "Utah Saints, U-U-U Utah Saints!" 16 years later Jez Willis and Tim Garbutt have decided to re-release it. With Bush's warbling vocals spliced between the tub-thumbing Utah beats, the chorus remains a prime slab of blissful dance music genius. The highest new entry of 4 comes in at No.7 for The Last Shadow Puppets - a side-project formed by Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner and The Rascals' Miles Kane, with their debut single ‘The Age Of The Understatement’. A furious gallop of drums, guitars and strings from start to finish, this stands shoulder to shoulder and head up high as one of the best singles of the year so far. If the Broccolis are still looking for someone to do the James Bond theme tune, they need look no further. The Courteneers, Arcade Fire and Radiohead make up the reminder of the new entries in this week’s top 40 Chart. Will Duffy secure another week at the top, or will The Last Shadow Puppets secure their first No.1 single with their debut track next week. Only time will tell… you have 7 days to wait, so grab a pew, put your feet up and tune in, same time same place next week. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELSSDUFS.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1763784.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1765355.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/AT0303CD.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1760834.JPG 01 (01) Duffy – Mercy [9wks] (9-5-5-3-2-1-1-1-1) 02 (02) One Republic – Stop & Stare [2wks] (40-31-14-3-2-2) 03 (08) Sugababes – Denial [3wks] (19-8-3) 04 (06) Panic! March 28, 200817 yr Author Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #201 – 29/03/2008 Chart Commentary After 4 weeks at the top for Duffy, ‘Mercy’ falls to No.4, in that case we have a new No.1 for The Last Shadow Puppets, with their debut single ‘The Age Of The Understatement’ - a side-project formed by Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner and The Rascals' Miles Kane. OneRepublic stall at No.2 for a third week running with ‘Stop & Stare’. Breaking inside the top 10 with a small climb of 2 places at No.10 are The Kooks with their brand new release ‘Always Where I Need To Be’ taken from their second sophomore studio album ‘Konk’ named after the London studio where the band have been recording the follow-up to 2006's 'Inside In/Inside Out'. The highest of 2 new entries inside the top 10, firstly comes from the queen of music – Madonna, on her brand new single ‘4 Minutes’ in at No.3, featuring the vocals of Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, taken from her eleventh studio album ‘Hard Candy’ is anticipated to be released in late Spring 2008, and will be the last studio album released under Madonna's contract with Warner Bros. The album features collaborations and contributions from Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, Danja and Justin Timberlake. As for the track itself, its very different again, she has gone into the R&B genre, its catchy, different from her usual standard of her previous material, she is always re-inventing herself after a 3 year break from her Confessions album. The other new entry inside the top 10 is Estelle with ‘American Boy’ in at No.7 featuring the vocals of Kanye West, its very addictive after a few listens once its lodged in your brain, at first I didn’t think nothing much of it, but it grew on me after a few more listens, the track can also be found on her new album ‘Shine’. Sam Sparro, Yael Naim and Adele make up the rest of the new entries inside this week’s top 40 chart. Onto next week will Madonna grab the elusive No.1 or will The Last Shadow Puppets keep their foothold at the top, will Estelle improve on her peak position of No.7, it be tight very tight, grab a coffee and your slippers and wait another 7 days to find out. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/RUG288.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1763784.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELMADGE.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELSSDUFS.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1765355.JPG 01 (07) The Last Shadow Puppets – The Age Of The Understatement [2wks] (7-1) 02 (02) One Republic – Stop & Stare [7wks] (40-31-14-3-2-2-2) 03 (**) Madonna And Justin – 4 Minutes [1wk] (3) 04 (01) Duffy – Mercy [10wks] (9-5-5-3-2-1-1-1-1-4) 05 (03) Sugababes – Denial [4wks] (19-8-3-5) 06 (04) Panic! April 4, 200817 yr Author Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #202 – 05/04/2008 Chart Commentary No change at No.1 this week, Last Shadow Puppets remain at No.1 for a second week with ‘The Age Of The Understatement’. Madonna moves up a spot to No.2 with ‘4 Minutes’ featuring the vocals of Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, while OneRepublic drop a spot to #3 with ‘Stop & Stare’. The highest climber of the week climbs 17 places to No.4 for Sam Sparro with ‘Black And Gold’. Whether it be first, young, unrequited, lost or sexual, pop songs have a funny habit of talking about love. However, Sydney-born, LA-based Sam Sparro clearly has grander ambitions than the average chart wannabe, describing his debut single 'Black and Gold' as "pretty much existential". Sparro slowly unleashes the full power of his deep, soulful voice, pondering the meaning of life while staring into the black (the night sky, apparently) and gold (the stars). On this evidence, Sparro has more than enough talent to fulfil those grand ambitions. The highest new entry of 5 in at No.10 comes from Portishead, with their eagerly long awaited single ‘Machine Gun’ taken from their brand new studio album ‘Third’. What has been roughly ten years in the making finally sees release in the form of Third, the aptly titled release from the Bristol-based trio known in part for helping standardize trip hop in the mid ’90s. Magnificent exploitation of textures and ambient leading Portishead standard sound into new directions! A perfect return! Goldfrapp, Foo Fighters, The Feeling, Spencer Davis Group and Fragma make up the rest of this week’s new entries in this week’s top 40 chart. Will Sam Sparro nip Madonna to No.1 next week, by a whisker, is the most likeable contender for the top, unless The Last Shadow Puppets stick to their guns and remain rooted to the No.1 spot for a third week, tune in next week, don’t touch the channel. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/RUG288.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELMADGE.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1763784.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1766841.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/AT0304CDX.JPG 01 (01) The Last Shadow Puppets – The Age Of The Understatement [3wks] (7-1-1) 02 (03) Madonna And Justin – 4 Minutes [2wks] (3-2) 03 (02) One Republic – Stop & Stare [8wks] (40-31-14-3-2-2-2-3) 04 (21) Sam Sparro – Black And Gold [2wks] (21-4) 05 (07) Estelle feat. April 11, 200817 yr Author Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #203 – 12/04/2008 Chart Commentary This week sees a different chain of command at the top featuring the sultry vocals of Alison Frapp along with Will Gregory otherwise known as Goldfrapp, but how do you follow up the brilliant ‘A&E’ quite easily for Alison the follow up single ‘Happiness’ is a gem with an awe inspiring track. With a succession of critically lauded albums, the duo honed their approach and utilised an assortment of influences ranging from traditional soundtrack themes and vintage pop to '80s synth sounds, disco, and glam rock to create one of the most intriguing and satisfying electronica hybrids to emerge from the genre since its inception. The Last Shadow Puppets slip a place to No.2 with ‘The Age Of The Understatement’ taken from their debut album of the same name, while Sam Sparro peaks at No.3 with ‘Black & Gold’. Who is poised to introduce the world to his innovative music and style, with his debut album ‘Sam Sparro’ with a brilliant mix of old-school vocals and futuristic beats with synthesized 70s and 80s pop, rock and soul. Unfortunately Madonna has started spirally downwards already to No.5, with ‘4 Minutes’ as the track finally lost its charm and energy, hopefully might climb in the coming weeks once it starts migrating on the ears more. The highest new entry of 5 surfaces at No.9 for Swedish born Robyn and releases another infectious follow up track to ‘Be Mine’ with ‘Who’s That Girl’ taken from her studio album ‘Robyn’. Further down the chart ’Be Mine!’ spends its 16th week in the chart sitting nicely at No.29. Black Kids, The Wombats, Young Knives and One Night Only make up the reminder of the new entries in this week’s top 40 chart. Will Madonna do a funny turn up the chart next week, or will Goldfrapp remain at No.1 for a second week, unless The Last Shadow Puppets take a step back up the chart, so pull a chair, grab the remote and pause for another week. April 18, 200817 yr Author Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #204 – 19/04/2008 Chart Commentary The top 3 records remain unchanged this week, Goldfrapp remain at #1 for a second week with ‘Happiness’, The Last Shadow Puppets at No.2 with ‘The Age Of The Understatement’ while Sam Sparro at No.3 with ‘Black and Gold’. Madonna is back on the up at No.48 with ‘4 Minutes’ featuring the vocals of Justin Timberlake and sound effects from Timbaland. Shooting up 10 places to No.8 from the Florida five-piece band – The Black Kids, featuring the fantastically-named frontman, Reggie Youngblood. Everything except the tongue-twisting title - 'I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You', what a mouthful! - is pristinely-executed, with lo-fi production values and plenty of effortless, minimalist cool. Youngblood's breathy vocals exude sexual tension as he sings "You're biting my tongue. I'm kissin' on you. Is he better than me?" With splendid B-sides to boot, Black Kids look like they could be a little bit special. The highest new entry of 5 comes from the very cute, little cuddly thing by the name of Kylie, with her new contagious single ‘In Your Arms’ sitting pretty at No.6. The single can also be found on her tenth studio album ‘X’. This could be considered as one of her best tracks from the album, ‘In My Arms’ production is strong, catchy and fun, spoken lyrics mashed over sung lyrics, sexy and seductive... 'How do you describe a feeling? I've only ever dreamt of this...' Calvin Harris has certainly brought the magic to the track. September, Infadels, Cahill feat. Nikki Belle, and Wiley make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s top 40 chart. Will Madonna do the unspeakable and peak at No.1 next week, snapping on her heels are the new tracks from Robyn and Kylie all vying for the important spot of the number one next week, unless Golfrapp manage another week at the top, tune in next week and find out, don’t go changing the channel. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/MUTE392.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/RUG288.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1766841.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELMADGE.JPG http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/enduranceben/whosthatgirl1.jpg 01 (01) Goldfrapp – Happiness [3wks] (11-1-1) 02 (02) The Last Shadow Puppets – The Age Of The Understatement [5wks] (7-1-1-2-2) 03 (03) Sam Sparro – Black And Gold [3wks] (21-4-3) 04 (05) Madonna feat Justin Timberlake – 4 Minutes [4wks] (3-2-5-4) 05 (09) Robyn – Who’s That Girl [2wks] (9-5) 06 (**) Kylie Minogue – In Your Arms [1wk] (6) 07 (04) One Republic – Stop & Stare [10wks] (40-31-14-3-2-2-2-3-4-7) 08 (18) Black Kids – I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You [2wks] (18-8) 09 (06) Portishead – Machine Gun [3wks] (10-6-9) 10 (10) Duffy – Mercy [13wks] (9-5-5-3-2-1-1-1-1-4-7-10-10) http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/R6756.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1763784.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/AGUK001S.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1766095.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELSSDUFS.JPG 11 (08) Estelle feat. April 25, 200817 yr Author Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #205 – 27/04/2008 Chart Commentary No much happening in the chart this week, apart from The Last Shadow Puppets reclaiming the top spot again with ‘The Age Of The Understatement’, I don’t really like doing old No.1s returning back to No.1, but their album is awesome, I love it to bits, so on the strength of the album Last Shadow Puppets are back on top, while Madonna has to settle for No.2 with ‘4 Minutes’, and Goldfrapp with ‘Happiness’ slip to No.3. The Kooks return to the top 10 again, on the strength of the album ‘Konk’ which I bought this week, the single climbs to No.7. The other climber in the top 10 this week is September, at No.10, with ‘Cry For You’ the beat is strong and the lyric direct. Petra Markland the singer and chief creative force behind September has a full and rich voice as she carries the song with best intentions, its one of those dance tracks that’s grows on you after a few listens. The highest new entry of 5 comes in at No.17 for Hot Chip with ‘One Pure Thought’ it’s the band’s second single from their third studio album ‘Made In The Dark’. The tracks starts off with some messy and some keyboard sampling around. Then the song starts to bounce and the beat gets introduced and the falsetto vocal kicks in. This song is one of my favourites on their album, the track is nicely bottled up in a neat package. The Ting Tings, Raconteurs, Pigeon Detectives and Paramore make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s top 40 chart. Will Madonna edge its way to the top next week, or will The Last Shadow Puppets sustain another week at the top, hang on Robyn and Kylie are also in contention for a quick jump, you just have to tune in… in 7 days time, don’t go changing that channel. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/RUG288.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELMADGE.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/MUTE392.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/R6756.JPGhttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/enduranceben/whosthatgirl1.jpg 01 (02) The Last Shadow Puppets – The Age Of The Understatement [6wks] (7-1-1-2-2-1) 02 (04) Madonna feat Justin Timberlake – 4 Minutes [5wks] (3-2-5-4-2) 03 (01) Goldfrapp – Happiness [4wks] (11-1-1-3) 04 (06) Kylie Minogue – In Your Arms [2wks] (6-4) 05 (05) Robyn – Who’s That Girl [3wks] (9-5-5) 06 (03) Sam Sparro – Black And Gold [4wks] (21-4-3-6) 07 (12) The Kooks – Always Where I Need To Be [7wks] (20-12-10-6-7-12-7) 08 (08) Black Kids – I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You [3wks] (18-8-8) 09 (07) One Republic – Stop & Stare [11wks] (40-31-14-3-2-2-2-3-4-7-9) 10 (19) September – Cry For You [2wks] (19-10) http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1766841.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/VSCDT1967.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/AGUK001S.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1763784.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/H2B03CDS.JPG 11 (11) Estelle feat. May 2, 200817 yr Author Mikey’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #206 – 04/05/2008 Chart Commentary The top 2 remain unchanged The Last Shadow Puppets spending their fourth week at the top after a 2 week break with ‘The Age Of The Understatement’ while Madonna is safely perched at No.2 with ‘4 Minutes’ aided by Justin Timberlake & Timbaland, while Kylie moves up a place to No.3 with her new infectious track ‘In My Arms’. After a series of highly rated singles from the Wombats, their new single ‘Backfire At The Disco’ creeps inside the top 10 at No.8, taken from their debut studio album ‘Guide To Love Loss & Desperation’. In essence it’s a top notch banging indie pop song for this musical age where you certainly need some degree of quirkiness and exuberance to get your vocal chords heard. This latest single is bound to keep this Liverpool quartet on the airwaves, for some time to come. The highest new entry of 6 comes from Dublin-based The Script, which conists of Danny O’Donoghue on keys and vocals, Mark Sheehan on guitar and Glen Power on drums. This group is going to be the next best thing to come out of Dublin, their debut single ‘We Cry’ enters the chart at No.19, they have recently supported the Hoosiers and tipped to be one of the best new breakthrough acts of 2008. Futureheads, Yazoo, Natasha Bedingfield, Coldplay and Hadouken!, make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s Top 40 chart. Will Madonna climb an extra inch next week to the top, Kylie is also biting at Madonna’s heels for her third consecutive No.1, the only place to find out is to pull up a chair and wait another 7 days. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/RUG288.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELMADGE.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/R6756.JPG http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/enduranceben/whosthatgirl1.jpg http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/MUTE392.JPG 01 (01) The Last Shadow Puppets – The Age Of The Understatement [7wks] (7-1-1-2-2-1-1) 02 (02) Madonna feat Justin Timberlake – 4 Minutes [6wks] (3-2-5-4-2-2) 03 (04) Kylie Minogue – In Your Arms [3wks] (6-4-3) 04 (05) Robyn – Who’s That Girl [4wks] (9-5-5-4) 05 (03) Goldfrapp – Happiness [5wks] (11-1-1-3-5) 06 (06) Sam Sparro – Black And Gold [5wks] (21-4-3-6-6) 07 (10) September – Cry For You [3wks] (19-10-7) 08 (13) The Wombats – Backfire At The Disco [4wks] (22-15-13-8) 09 (09) One Republic – Stop & Stare [12wks] (40-31-14-3-2-2-2-3-4-7-9-9) 10 (11) Estelle feat. May 9, 200817 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #207 – 11/05/2008 Chart Commentary After 6 weeks of hanging around in the top 5, Madonna finally peaks at No.1 this week with ‘4 Minutes’ collaborating with Justin Timberlake & Timbaland, taken from her No.1 album ‘Hard Candy’. The album features a highly infectious track ‘Give It 2 Me’ as a firm favourite of mine on the album, other memorable tracks on the album are ‘Heartbeat’, ‘Miles Away’ and ‘Incredible’, but in all it’s a great album. The Script are a three-piece Irish band from Dublin, Danny (vocals and keys), Glen (drums), and Mark (guitar), having supported The Hoosiers on their nationwide tour. This is a whole new brand of Celtic Soul, blending hip hop lyrical flow with pop melodies, state of the art R'n'B production with anthemic rock dynamics, classic song construction with gritty contemporary narratives. The single ‘We Cry’ climbs 14 places to No.5 this week. While Hot Chip were one of many bands from the early 2000s to have adopted an electro-pop sound, they stand apart from the pack both for their melodic and for their fully live, band-oriented approach to the indie genre. Their latest offering ‘One Pure Though’ climbs a place to No.10 this week, taken from their studio album ‘Made In The Dark’ The highest new entry of 4 comes from Glaswegian three-piece The Fratellis who make a welcome return to the chart at No.8 with ‘Mistress Mabel’ ready to tinker with the winning pop formula as ever with frantic keys and flange pedal guitar hooks raced around a blistering chorus. The track can also be found on their forthcoming second studio album ‘Here We Come’, following on the back of their debut album ‘Costello Music’ of 2006. Duffy, Sara Bareilles and Hercules & Love Affair make up the reminder of the new entries in this week’s top 40 chart, next week should see a lot of the deadwood falling out. Could Kylie or The Fratellis climb to No.1, Duffy’s new single will be a serious contender for the top in a few weeks’ time, its very catchy and it’s my firm favourite track on the album. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELMADGE.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/R6756.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/RUG288.JPG http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/enduranceben/whosthatgirl1.jpg http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697291572.JPG 01 (02) Madonna feat Justin Timberlake – 4 Minutes [7wks] (3-2-5-4-2-2-1) 02 (03) Kylie Minogue – In Your Arms [4wks] (6-4-3-2) 03 (01) The Last Shadow Puppets – The Age Of The Understatement [8wks] (7-1-1-2-2-1-1-3) 04 (04) Robyn – Who’s That Girl [5wks] (9-5-5-4-4) 05 (19) The Script – We Cry [2wks] (19-5) 06 (06) Sam Sparro – Black And Gold [6wks] (21-4-3-6-6-6) 07 (05) Goldfrapp – Happiness [6wks] (11-1-1-3-5-7) 08 (**) The Fratellis – Mistress Mabel [1wk] (8) 09 (07) September – Cry For You [4wks] (19-10-7-9) 10 (11) Hot Chip – One Pure Thought [3wks] (17-11-10) http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1766841.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/MUTE392.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1773068.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/H2B03CDS.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CDEM748.JPG 11 (17) The Ting Tings – That’s Not My Name [3wks] (23-17-11) 12 (09) One Republic – Stop & Stare [13wks] (40-31-14-3-2-2-2-3-4-7-9-9-12) 13 (16) Yael Naim – New Soul [7wks] (35-30-23-23-16-16-13) 14 (08) The Wombats – Backfire At The Disco [5wks] (22-15-13-8-14) 15 (15) Infadels – Make Mistakes [4wks] (28-21-15-15) 16 (20) The Raconteurs – Salute Your Solution [3wks] (33-20-16) 17 (10) Estelle feat. May 16, 200817 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #208 – 18/05/2008 Chart Commentary No change at the top this week, Madonna maintains her No.1 position for the second week with ‘4 Minutes’ featuring the vocals of Justin Timberlake, the single can also be found on her studio album ‘Hard Candy’. Welsh born Duffy (Aimee Anne) climbs inside the top 10 at No. 4 with ‘Warwick Avenue’ it’s the third single to be lifted from her ‘Rockferry’ album, ‘Warwick Avenue’ is a firm favourite track of mine with a touch of retro soul 70s sound, which is on course for a future No.1 in my chart. The highest new entry of 7 comes from The Mystery Jets, with their new single ‘Two Doors Down’ at No.14, continue to grace us with such sublime, joyous and good old fashioned pop songs as this. What better way to welcome in the summer than with this track from one the UK’s most talented bunch of young men as they continue to grace us with such sublime, joyous and good old fashioned pop songs as this. On the flip side to the 7” of Two Doors Down is an inspired cover of Aztec Camera’s smash ‘Somewhere In My Heart’ advancing on those 80’s inspired influences, ‘Two Doors Down, can also be found on their forthcoming new studio album ‘Twenty-One’. One Republic, The Guillemots, Gabriella Cilmi, The Zutons, The Foals and Sandi Thom make up the rest of the new entries this week inside the top 40. May 30, 200817 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #210 – 01/06/2008 Chart Commentary I didn’t have time for a chart commentary last week, now its back, no change at the top, Duffy remains at No.1 with ‘Warwick Avenue’ and The Fratellis remain at No.2 for a second week with ‘Mistress Mabel’, while the Mystery Jets move up 3 places to No.3 with ‘Two Doors Down’. LA pop rockers One Republic are on the move upwards with their follow up single to ‘Stop & Stare’ with ‘Say All I Need’ up to No.7, taken from their debut album ‘Dreaming Out Loud’. Incidentally ‘Stop & Stare’ is at No.28 this week, in its sixteenth week. The band formed way back in 2003 and have been going strong for 5 years stateside, while their music was only unleashed on this side of the water late last year, its been an incredible roller coaster ride for them in the past 12 months churning out a hit after hit. Sara Bareilles, a singer/songwriter from the brilliantly-named town of Eureka, California unleashes her debut single ‘Love Song’ moves up the chart to No.8, its already a top 5 smash across the pond a bounding piano-pop romp that sounds great while you are waiting for a bus to come along. The track has been around for a long time since late last year, its only now the track is getting recognition on this side of the pond that truly deserves and it’s a gem, easy catchy number to listen to. The Zutons are back, after Mark Ronson did a cover version of their original hit ‘Valerie’ their new single ‘Always Right Behind You’ is a rock and roll blinder, with a touch of Status Quo influences, and just beyond the horizon, album number three is waiting to be unleashed under the title of ‘You Can Do Anything’. The single climbs 12 places to the foot of the top 10 at No.10. The highest new entry of 6 comes from Multi-talented R&B artist, songwriter and producer, Taio Cruz with his follow up single to ‘Come On Girl’ with ‘I Can Be’ this time collaborating on vocals with Estelle, both tracks can be found on his debut studio album ‘Departure’. The track earns itself the position of No.15 this week. Feeder, Snap!, Portishead, Julian Velard and the Long Blondes make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s top 40 Chart. Will Duffy remain at No.1 next week for a third week, or will the Fratellis snatch victory over Duffy unless other singles from Sara Bareilles, One Republic or the Mystery Jets can do the deed, check back in 7 days time. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1766149.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1773068.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/679L156CD.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/NUL02CD.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELCDTING.JPG 01 (01) Duffy – Warwick Avenue [4wks] (18-4-1-1) 02 (02) The Fratellis – Mistress Mabel [4wks] (8-3-2-2) 03 (06) Mystery Jets – Two Doors Down [3wks] (14-6-3) 04 (07) Futureheads – Radio Heart [5wks] (28-20-13-7-4) 05 (05) The Ting Tings – That’s Not My Name [6wks] (23-17-11-11-5-5) 06 (03) Madonna feat Justin Timberlake – 4 Minutes [9wks] (3-2-5-4-2-2-1-1-3-6) 07 (16) One Republic – Say (All I Need) [3wks] (21-16-7) 08 (13) Sara Bareilles – Love Song [3wks] (26-15-13-8) 09 (04) Kylie Minogue – In Your Arms [7wks] (6-4-3-2-2-4-9) 10 (22) The Zutons – Always Right Behind You [3wks] (31-22-10) http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELMADGE.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1772305.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697315932.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/R6756.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/DLT076.JPG 11 (18) Guillemots – Falling Out Of Reach [3wks] (28-18-11) 12 (09) The Last Shadow Puppets – The Age Of The Understatement [11wks] (7-1-1-2-2-1-1-3-6-9-12) 13 (20) Panic At The Disco – That Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed) [2wks] (20-13) 14 (21) Gabriella Cilmi – Sweet Like Me [3wks] (30-21-14) 15 (**) Taio Cruz feat. June 6, 200817 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #211 – 08/06/2008 Chart Commentary No stopping Duffy this week, she remains at No.1 for a third week with ‘Warwick Avenue’, her closest challenger seems to be Mystery Jets as they move up a place to No.2 with ‘Two Doors Down’ taken from their second studio album ‘Twenty One’ while the Ting Tings earn themselves a new peak at No.3 with ‘That’s Not My Name’. Not much movement inside the top 10, but singer, producer and songwriter Taio Cruz continues to cruise up 8 places to No.15 with ‘I Can Be’ which is the follow up single to ‘Come On Girl’ both tracks can be found on his debut studio album ‘Departure’. The highest new entry of 4 comes from singer, songwriter Ne’Yo with his brand new release ‘Closer’ in at No.9. This song is hot and on point and the lyrics are great with a touch of a summer vibe to it. Vocally he always sounds the same in every song he does, but this is my absolute favourite song of his. It's definitely going to be a top 10 smash if not No.1, taken from his third studio album ‘Year Of The Gentlemen’. Mint Royale enter the chart at No.16 this week, purely as a classic tune, the track was featured in the final of ITV’s Saturday Reality TV Series Britain’s Got Talent where the winner George Sampson, danced his way to victory by using the Mint Royale track ‘Singin’ In The Rain’ as his sound bed to his dance routine. MGMT and Laura Marling make up the reminder of this week’s new entries in this week’s top 40 chart. Will Duffy maintain her position next week, or will Ne’Yo catapult himself to No.1, unless Mint Royale put a spanner in the works and climb all the way to the top, tune in 7 days time to find out. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1766149.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/679L156CD.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELCDTING.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1772305.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1773068.JPG 01 (01) Duffy – Warwick Avenue [5wks] (18-4-1-1-1) 02 (03) Mystery Jets – Two Doors Down [4wks] (14-6-3-2) 03 (05) The Ting Tings – That’s Not My Name [7wks] (23-17-11-11-5-5-3) 04 (07) One Republic – Say (All I Need) [4wks] (21-16-7-4) 05 (02) The Fratellis – Mistress Mabel [5wks] (8-3-2-2-5) 06 (08) Sara Bareilles – Love Song [4wks] (26-15-13-8-6) 07 (15) Taio Cruz feat. June 13, 200817 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #212 – 15/06/2008 Chart Commentary Duffy remains at No.1 for a fourth week with ‘Warwick Avenue’ and it matches the 4 week chart run at No.1 with ‘Mercy’, actually ‘Mercy’ is still enjoying its 20th week in the chart both singles can be found on her debut album ‘Rockferry’ which is currently the top selling album of 2008. Ne’Yo climbs a further 7 places to No.2 with his summer infectious anthem R&B hit ‘Closer’ taken from his third studio album ‘Year Of The Gentleman’. Jumping 13 places to No.3 belongs to Mint Royale with ‘Singin’ In The Rain’ as a result of its use in the winning performance of Britain's Got Talent, now thanks to a teenage dancer and a rain machine lit in blue, makes its way into my chart. The track originally had special commission from an ad agency and was responsible for a 2005 TV commercial for Volkswagen. Australian born Gabriella Cilmi has been climbing up the chart very slowly to No.7, and this week has crept inside the top 10 after just 5 weeks, the single ‘Sweet About Me’ is actually a slow burner, and has been growing on me each week, its got a clever hook and after a few listens, it lodges in your brain, the track can also be found on her debut album ‘Lessons To Be Learned’. The track first surfaced as an ad for the TV Commercial ‘Sure’ and has gathered new status as a hit single. Feeder make a welcome entry to the chart and its their first single to enter my personal chart, the track ‘We Are The People’ climbs inside the top 10 at No.8, taken from their new sixth studio album ‘Silent Cry’. Its an anthemic, slow-build-up ballad in the usual Feeder-style the single stands out well with the likes of ‘Turn’ and ‘Feeling A Moment’. The highest new entry of 6 comes from the Florida based group Black Kids in at No.22, with their new single ‘Hurricane Jane’ is the perfect example of just why they’re so hotly anticipated – it’s infectious, sweet and just perfect for the summer and taken from their soon to be released new album ‘Partie Traumatic’. Infadels, Weezer, Vampire Weekend, The Music and Dirty Pretty Things, make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s top 40 chart. Will Ne’Yo edge his way to the top next week, or will Mint Royale snatch victory, tune in 7 days time and find out. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1766149.JPGhttp://www.freewebs.com/juranamo/Small%20Covers/neyo.jpghttp://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm155/medicatedsoap/singintherain.jpghttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1772004.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/679L156CD.JPG 01 (01) Duffy – Warwick Avenue [6wks] (18-4-1-1-1-1) 02 (09) Ne’Yo – Closer [2wks] (9-2) 03 (16) Mint Royale – Singin’ In The Rain [2wks] (16-3) 04 (07) Taio Cruz feat. June 20, 200817 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #213 – 22/06/2008 Chart Commentary This week is all change at the top after 4 weeks at No.1 Duffy slips to No.3 with ‘Warwick Avenue’ while Ne’Yo edges up a place to No.1 with his infectious R&B number ‘Closer’ which gives a nice summer vibe to the top spot, while Mint Royale edge another place to No.2 with ‘Singin’ In The Rain’. This week sees Coldplay climbing 20 places back up the chart with ‘Violet Hill’ on the back of a brilliant album Viva La Vida And Death To All His Friends’, the album is truly remarkable and you really have to appreciate their music and their lyrics. Also further down the chart at No.25 ‘Viva LA Vida’ makes a welcome addition to this week’s top 40 chart, I have to say this track is one of the highlights on the album and comes across truly meaningful, along with ‘Cemeteries Of London’ and ‘Strawberry Swings’. Las Vegas emo band Panic At The Disco follow the last single ‘Nine In The Afternoon’ with ‘That Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed’ which resides insides the top 10 at No.7, taken from their studio album ‘Pretty. Odd’. Black Kids' debut single ‘I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You’ was a breakthrough hit from the young group from Florida. It was going to be a tough to follow up a song like that but ‘Hurricane Jane’ has one of the most recognizable guitar intros of recent times, both tracks can be found on their forthcoming debut album ‘Partie Traumatic’ due out on July 8. The highest new entry of 7 comes from The Last Shadow Puppets with their new release of ‘Standing Next To Me’, in at No.13. Alex Turner's side project, The Last Shadow Puppets are taking us right back to the 60s in a way that recalls early era-Bowie and more-prominently the often overlooked Scott Walker. Teaming up with The Rascals frontman Miles Kane, they release the second single from 'The Age Of The Understatement'. Differing immensely from the galloping 'Knights of Cydonia' strings and epic overtones of the first single, 'Standing Next To Me' simply rolls along with class and grace that would be somewhat out of place on 'Favourite Worst Nightmare'. Ladyhawke, Goldfrapp, The Kooks, Those Dancing Days and Elliot Minor make up the reminder of this week’s new entries inside the top 40. What’s in store for next week, will Ne’Yo remain at No.1 for a second or will Mint Royale edge their way up another place to No.1, or will Coldplay finally peak at No.1 after 8 weeks in the chart. http://www.freewebs.com/juranamo/Small%20Covers/neyo.jpghttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1766149.JPGhttp://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm155/medicatedsoap/singintherain.jpghttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k313/davidobowie/Single%20Covers%202008/Coldplay-VioletHill.pnghttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1775699.JPG 01 (02) Ne’Yo – Closer [3wks] (9-2-1) 02 (01) Duffy – Warwick Avenue [7wks] (18-4-1-1-1-1-2) 03 (03) Mint Royale – Singin’ In The Rain [3wks] (16-3-3) 04 (24) Coldplay – Violet Hill [8wks] (38-25-10-8-18-27-24-4) 05 (07) Gabriella Cilmi – Sweet About Me [6wks] (30-21-14-12-7-5) 06 (04) Taio Cruz feat.
