June 27, 200817 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #214 – 29/06/2008 Chart Commentary No change at the top this week for Ne’Yo spends another week at No.1 with ‘Closer’. This week’s highest new entry is in at No.2 for the Queen of Pop Madonna, with her infectious new track ‘Give It 2 Me’ the follow up single to ‘4 Minutes’, both tracks can be found on her latest studio album ‘Hard Candy’. Gabriella Cilmi continues to climb, this week she is up 2 places with ‘Sweet About Me’, its one of those songs that won’t go away once its lodged into your brain, its hard to put down, its crept up the top 40 really slow after 7 weeks in the chart. And we say bye to Mint Royale from the top 3 to No.12. Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys) and Miles Kane (The Rascals) are The Last Shadow Puppets, a side project that has really worked so well, the new track ‘Standing Next To Me’ is their follow up single to ‘The Age Of The Understatement’, the track itself is back dated to the 60s throwback era which you could easily mistake it for a Scott Walker hit, the track simply rolls along with class and grace that would be some what out of place on 'Favourite Worst Nightmare', a top 10 placing at No.5. ‘Violet Hill’ remains unchanged this week at No.4 while Viva La Vida gives Coldplay another top 10 placing at No.8, both tracks can be found on their latest album, ‘Viva La Vida Or Death To His Friends’, the album is a masterpiece and lyrically it’s the best album they have ever produced, and already has raked over 500,000 sales in just under a fortnight, probably tipped to be the biggest selling album of the year. New Zealander born Phillipa Brown to her friends, otherwise known as Ladyhawke unleashes her debut single ‘Paris Is Burning’ and has already shot up 9 places to No.7, comes across like a more electro Lykke Li mixed with the punk-funk tendencies of New Young Pony Club, so expect plenty of cowbell percussion and heavy bass, sat behind pianos and wiry synths. At No.16 is the second highest new entry of 7 for American singer-songwriter Katy Perry better known as Katheryn Hudson with her debut single ‘I Kissed A Girl’, well at first I didn’t think nothing much of it, but after a few listens, it got firmly lodged in my brain, and now I’m addicted to it like a rash, oh well… that’s life. Five O’Clock Heroes feat. Agyness Dean, The Presets, Sharleen Spiteri, Fall Out Boy feat. John Mayer and Ironik make up the reminder of this week’s new entries inside the top 40. Will Ne’Yo maintain his lead at the top for a third week or will Madonna edge her way up 1 place unless Gabriella peaks at No.1, Coldplay could still be a threat with their two tracks in the top 10, come back in 7 days time and find out, all will be revealed. http://www.freewebs.com/juranamo/Small%20Covers/neyo.jpghttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELCDSMAD.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1775699.JPGhttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k313/davidobowie/Single%20Covers%202008/Coldplay-VioletHill.pnghttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/RUG301CD.JPG 01 (01) Ne’Yo – Closer [3wks] (9-2-1-1) 02 (**) Madonna – Give It 2 Me [1wk] (2) 03 (05) Gabriella Cilmi – Sweet About Me [7wks] (30-21-14-12-7-5-3) 04 (04) Coldplay – Violet Hill [9wks] (38-25-10-8-18-27-24-4-4) 05 (13) The Last Shadow Puppets – Standing Next To Me [2wks] (13-5) 06 (02) Duffy – Warwick Avenue [8wks] (18-4-1-1-1-1-2-6) 07 (16) Ladyhawke – Paris Is Burning [2wks] (16-7) 08 (12) Sara Bareilles – Love Song [8wks] (26-15-13-8-6-9-12-8) 09 (25) Coldplay – Viva La Vida [2wks] (25-9) 10 (10) Black Kids – Hurricane Jane [3wks] (22-10-10) http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1766149.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/MODCDS58.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697315932.JPGhttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k313/davidobowie/Single%20Covers%202008/Coldplay-VivaLaVida.pnghttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/AGUK2CDS.JPG 11 (15) Infadels - Free Things For Poor People [3wks] (27-15-11) 12 (03) Mint Royale – Singin’ In The Rain [4wks] (16-3-3-12) 13 (07) Panic At The Disco – That Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed) [6wks] (20-13-11-11-7-13) 14 (06) Taio Cruz feat. July 4, 200817 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #215 – 06/07/2008 Chart Commentary It seems there is no budging for Ne’Yo who sits comfortably at No.1 for a third week with ‘Closer’, Madonna standing firm at No.2 with her follow up single to ‘4 Minutes’ with ‘Give It 2 Me’, while The Last Shadow Puppets move up another 2 places up the chart with ‘Standing Next To Me’. Ladyhawke moves up a further 3 places to No.4 with the most infectious chorus to date on ‘Paris is Burning’, finally Gabriella Cilmi runs out of steam and falls down to No.5. Not a lot of activity in the top 10 this week, but I do have a climber from American singer-songwriter Katy Perry, marches up 9 places to No.8 with ‘I Kissed A Girl’ forming the wit and style of Lily Allen and Kate Nash. This track bobs along really easy on the ears and very radio friendly, which should have you toe tapping along once it settles inside your brain. The highest new entry of 6 comes from the Salford duo, consisting of two members Jules De Martino (drums, guitar, vocals) and Katie White (vocals, guitar, bass drum); otherwise know as the Ting Tings. The first single released on Columbia was ‘Great DJ’, which received considerable airplay on new music stations BBC Radio 1 and XFM in the UK; and hyped by magazines such as the NME and followed it with a No.1 smash ‘That’s Not My Name’. Their new single ‘Shut Up And Let Me Go’ emerges at No 14, it first started out as a soundbed to the iPod TV commercial, and finally been given a new lease of life. If you ever wondered how they got their name the Ting Tings - named after a waitress colleague of White's at a Chinese restaurant. Cut Copy, Chris Brown, Ava Leigh, The Feeling and The Freemasons featuring Katherine Ellis, make up the reminder of this week’s new entries inside the top 40. Will Madonna ever get another No.1 next week, or will the Last Shadow Puppets beat her to the punch. Katy Perry has also got a chance to edge her way to the top, but watch out for the Verve new track ‘Love Is Noise’ coming soon, it might just steal the top spot at a whim. http://www.freewebs.com/juranamo/Small%20Covers/neyo.jpghttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELCDSMAD.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/RUG301CD.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/MODCDS58.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1775699.JPG 01 (01) Ne’Yo – Closer [4wks] (9-2-1-1-1) 02 (02) Madonna – Give It 2 Me [2wks] (2-2) 03 (05) The Last Shadow Puppets – Standing Next To Me [3wks] (13-5-3) 04 (07) Ladyhawke – Paris Is Burning [3wks] (16-7-4) 05 (03) Gabriella Cilmi – Sweet About Me [8wks] (30-21-14-12-7-5-3-5) 06 (09) Coldplay – Viva La Vida [3wks] (25-9-6) 07 (06) Duffy – Warwick Avenue [9wks] (18-4-1-1-1-1-2-6-7) 08 (08) Sara Bareilles – Love Song [9wks] (26-15-13-8-6-9-12-8-8) 09 (16) Katy Perry – I Kissed A Girl [2wks] (16-9) 10 (04) Coldplay – Violet Hill [10wks] (38-25-10-8-18-27-24-4-4-10) http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k313/davidobowie/Single%20Covers%202008/Coldplay-VivaLaVida.pnghttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1766149.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697315932.JPGhttp://img45.imageshack.us/img45/5822/katydp1.jpghttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k313/davidobowie/Single%20Covers%202008/Coldplay-VioletHill.png 11 (15) MGMT – Electric Feel [5wks] (28-17-11-15-11) 12 (18) Goldfrapp – Caravan Girl [3wks] (29-18-12) 13 (10) Black Kids – Hurricane Jane [4wks] (22-10-10-13) 14 (**) The Ting Tings – Shut Up And Let Me Go [1wk] (14) 15 (23) Five O'Clock Heroes ft Agyness Dean – Who [2wks] (23-15) 16 (11) Infadels - Free Things For Poor People [4wks] (27-15-11-16) 17 (22) Weezer – Pork And Beans [4wks] (35-27-22-17) 18 (20) Vampire Weekend – Oxford Comma [4wks] (36-24-20-18) 19 (13) Panic At The Disco – That Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed) [7wks] (20-13-11-11-7-13-19) 20 (14) Taio Cruz feat. July 11, 200817 yr Author ||Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #216 – 13/07/2008|| Chart Commentary This week sees a change at the top Madonna finally edges up a place to No.1 with ‘Give It 2 Me’ while Ne-Yo falls down a place to No.2 with ‘Closer’. The Last Shadow Puppets ‘Standing Next To Me’ and Ladyhawke ‘Paris Is Burning’ remain firm for a second week at No.3 and No.4 respectably. And Katy Perry makes up the final addition in the top 5 with ‘I Kissed A Girl’. Oddball Brooklyn-based duo MGMT Consisting of singer/multi-instrumentalists Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden climb 6 places to No.7 with ‘Electric Feel’ or more accurately electric grope, taken from their debut album ’Oracular Spectacular’. This single marks MGMT down as supreme purveyors of day-glo 80s inspired synth pop. A translucent ode to love in the lower field, remember this tune when you’ve your mind in some far flung festival. This new single ‘Shut Up And Let Me Go’ from The Ting Tings is currently invading TV sets around the world, thanks to a new advert from Apple iPod, and currently sitting pretty at No.8 this week, taken from their debut album ‘We Started Nothing’. The most notable part of the song is the drumming, which really stands out, and it is the most essential part of the track. That drumming keeps the song together and gives it that nice stomping feeling. The star of the show, once again, is singer Katie White, who comes off like Debbie Harry with PMS, but in a good way, it is just a solid piece of electro pop that will get lodged in your brain. The highest new entry of 6 at No.20 comes from the delightful pint-sized Kylie Minogue who unleashes her new single ‘The One’ taken from her studio album ‘X’ another infectious tune that will have you toe tapping along continuing in the same vein of her last single ‘In My Arms’. Ida Maria, The Script, Dizzee Rascal feat. Calvin Harris & Chrome, Hot Chip and Velvet make up the reminder of the new entries in this week’s Top 40. Will Madonna sustain another week at the top or will The Last Shadow Puppets edge their way further up the chart, unless Katy Perry has something to shout about next week, tune back next week and find out. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELCDSMAD.JPG http://www.freewebs.com/juranamo/Small%20Covers/neyo.jpg http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/RUG301CD.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/MODCDS58.JPG http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/5822/katydp1.jpg 01 (02) Madonna – Give It 2 Me [/color][3wks] (2-2-1) 02 (01) Ne’Yo – Closer [5wks] (9-2-1-1-1-2) 03 (03) The Last Shadow Puppets – Standing Next To Me [4wks] (13-5-3-3) 04 (04) Ladyhawke – Paris Is Burning [4wks] (16-7-4-4) 05 (09) Katy Perry – I Kissed A Girl [3wks] (16-9-5) 06 (06) Coldplay – Viva La Vida [4wks] (25-9-6-6) 07 (11) MGMT – Electric Feel [6wks] (28-17-11-15-11-7) 08 (14) The Ting Tings – Shut Up And Let Me Go [2wk] (14-8) 09 (07) Duffy – Warwick Avenue [10wks] (18-4-1-1-1-1-2-6-7-9) 10 (05) Gabriella Cilmi – Sweet About Me [9wks] (30-21-14-12-7-5-3-5-10) http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k313/davidobowie/Single%20Covers%202008/Coldplay-VivaLaVida.png http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697326492.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697328481.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1766149.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1775699.JPG 11 (08) Sara Bareilles – Love Song [10wks] (26-15-13-8-6-9-12-8-8-11) 12 (25) Chris Brown – Forever [2wks] (25-12) 13 (15) Five O'Clock Heroes ft Agyness Dean – Who [3wks] (23-15-13) 14 (22) Cut Copy – Hearts On Fire [2wks] (22-14) 15 (10) Coldplay – Violet Hill [11wks] (38-25-10-8-18-27-24-4-4-10-15) 16 (12) Goldfrapp – Caravan Girl [4wks] (29-18-12-16) 17 (24) Ironik – Stay With Me [3wks] (39-24-17) 18 (23) The Kooks – Shine On [4wks] (37-29-23-18) 19 (13) Black Kids – Hurricane Jane [5wks] (22-10-10-13-19) 20 (**) Kylie Minogue – The One (Freemasons Mix) [1wk] (20) 21 (21) The Presets – This Boy’s In Love [3wks] (28-21-21) 22 (35) Sharleen Spiteri – All The Times I Cried [3wks) (35-28-22) 23 (29) Ava Leigh – Mad About The Boy [2wks] (29-23) 24 (18) Vampire Weekend – Oxford Comma [5wks] (36-24-20-18-24) 25 (16) Infadels - Free Things For Poor People [5wks] (27-15-11-16-25) 26 (30) Fall Out Boy feat. July 18, 200817 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #217 – 20/07/2008 Chart Commentary There is no change at the top this week, Madonna sticks around for a second week at No.1 with her infectious new single ‘Give It 2 Me’ taken from her studio album ‘Hard Candy’ while Last Puppet Shadows continue to creep slowly up the chart to No.2 with ‘Standing Next To Me’ taken from their debut album ‘The Age Of The Understatement’. Kylie Minogue transcends 12 places up the chart to No.8 with another infectious single with ‘The One’ the follow up single to ‘In Your Arms’ which has been given the Freemasons mix into the mix, also the single can be found on her tenth studio album ‘X’. Chris Brown emerges inside the top 10 at No.9 with ‘Forever’, at first it was a hate relationship with this track, but I grew to love it, it just reminds me of the HelloGoodbye track ‘Here (In My Arms), both tracks really sound the same in places, the track can also be found on his album ‘Exclusive’. The highest new entry of 6 comes from a long established group led by Richard Ashcroft, Simon Jones and John McCabe from Wigan, most anticipated 90s band The Verve coming hot at the heels of their Glastonbury and T in The Park performances, and back with a brand new storming track ‘Love Is Noise’ after a long break The track can also be found on their forthcoming fourth studio album entitled ‘Forth’. The single is not ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ or ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’ which are my two favourite tracks from the Verve collection, but ‘Love Is Noise’ is bit different and once it gets going it really have you hooked. I think my faith is finally restored for my own insanity, as The Verve are one of my favourite all time bands of the 90s, welcome back guys. Noah & The Whale, Chicane feat. Natasha Bedingfield, Linkin Park, Kid Rock and Adele make up the reminder of the new entries in this week’s Top 40. Will there be a new No.1 next week, its too close to call, as The Verve are literally knocking on Madonna’s front door, or will the Last Shadow Puppets edge a further place to earn themselves a second No.1 hit, tune in next week on the same channel, don’t go flipping channels, just be here in 7 days time. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELCDSMAD.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/RUG301CD.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/VERVE07.JPGhttp://www.freewebs.com/juranamo/Small%20Covers/neyo.jpghttp://img45.imageshack.us/img45/5822/katydp1.jpg 01 (01) Madonna – Give It 2 Me [4wks] (2-2-1-1) 02 (03) The Last Shadow Puppets – Standing Next To Me [5wks] (13-5-3-3-2) 03 (**) The Verve – Love Is Noise [1wk] (3) 04 (02) Ne’Yo – Closer [6wks] (9-2-1-1-1-2-4) 05 (05) Katy Perry – I Kissed A Girl [4wks] (16-9-5-5) 06 (04) Ladyhawke – Paris Is Burning [5wks] (16-7-4-4-6) 07 (08) The Ting Tings – Shut Up And Let Me Go [3wks] (14-8-7) 08 (20) Kylie Minogue – The One (Freemasons Mix) [2wks] (20-8) 09 (12) Chris Brown – Forever [3wks] (25-12-9) 10 (06) Coldplay – Viva La Vida [5wks] (25-9-6-6-10) http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/MODCDS58.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697328481.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELCDSMIN.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697330882.JPGhttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k313/davidobowie/Single%20Covers%202008/Coldplay-VivaLaVida.png 11 (14) Cut Copy – Hearts On Fire [3wks] (22-14-11) 12 (09) Duffy – Warwick Avenue [11wks] (18-4-1-1-1-1-2-6-7-9-12) 13 (18) The Kooks – Shine On [5wks] (37-29-23-18-13) 14 (07) MGMT – Electric Feel [7wks] (28-17-11-15-11-7-14) 15 (22) Sharleen Spiteri – All The Times I Cried [4wks) (35-28-22-15) 16 (10) Gabriella Cilmi – Sweet About Me [10wks] (30-21-14-12-7-5-3-5-10-16) 17 (11) Sara Bareilles – Love Song [11wks] (26-15-13-8-6-9-12-8-8-11-17) 18 (**) Noah & The Whale – 5 Years Time [1wk] (18) 19 (29) Ida Maria – I Like You So Much Better When You Are Naked [2wks] (29-19) 20 (23) Ava Leigh – Mad About The Boy [3wks] (29-23-20) 21 (26) Fall Out Boy feat. July 25, 200817 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #218 – 27/07/2008 Chart Commentary Its 5 years too late for the Verve, getting nipped to the final post by Noah & The Whale after just 2 weeks in the chart, ‘5 Years Time’ leaps up 17 places to No.1, I bet you never saw that coming, the single can also be found on their forthcoming debut studio album ‘Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down’. The Verve climb a place to No.2 with ‘Love Is Noise’, while The Last Shadow Puppets swap places with The verve at No.3 with ‘ Standing Next To Me’, Madonna slips down 3 to No.4 with ‘Give It 2 Me’ while Kylie Minogue climbs 3 places to No.5 with ‘The One’. The reminder of the top 10 remains pretty static with the exception of the Ting Tings climbing just a place to No.6 with ‘Shut Up And Let Me Go, taken from their acclaim debut studio album ‘We Started Nothing’. The highest new entry of 5 comes from the guitar-free, brass infused track ‘Mercury’ in at No.17 from Bloc Party is admirably different and up there with the band’s best. Kele’s voice sounds almost maniac at times and cut up “Mercury’s in retrograde” is repeated in an almost endless cycle at the onset, vocalist Kele Okereke's voice being echoed into a chopped and screwed pastiche that eventually culminates with a chugging, slowed down guttural growl that signals the advent of the track itself. While on the surface the band's shift into what can only be described as manic dance floor theatrics seems a far cry from any of the material on either of their previous albums, it's not so drastic as to be a complete head-cracker. But it does show the band working toward creating new angles that aid in the continued growth of their sound while still maintaining a foothold on their signature sound. The Futureheads, Usher, Pigeon Detectives and Cascada make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s top 40 Chart. Will the Verve edge another place next week, or will Noah & The Whale make it 2 weeks in a row at No.1. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1768177.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/VERVE002.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/RUG301CD.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELCDSMAD.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELCDSMIN.JPG 01 (18) Noah & The Whale – 5 Years Time [2wks] (18-1) 02 (03) The Verve – Love Is Noise [2wks] (3-2) 03 (02) The Last Shadow Puppets – Standing Next To Me [6wks] (13-5-3-3-2-3) 04 (01) Madonna – Give It 2 Me [5wks] (2-2-1-1-4) 05 (08) Kylie Minogue – The One (Freemasons Mix) [3wks] (20-8-5) 06 (07) The Ting Tings – Shut Up And Let Me Go [4wks] (14-8-7-6) 07 (04) Ne’Yo – Closer [7wks] (9-2-1-1-1-2-4-7) 08 (06) Ladyhawke – Paris Is Burning [6wks] (16-7-4-4-6-8) 09 (09) Chris Brown – Forever [4wks] (25-12-9-9) 10 (05) Katy Perry – I Kissed A Girl [5wks] (16-9-5-5-10) http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697328481.JPG http://www.freewebs.com/juranamo/Small%20Covers/neyo.jpg http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/MODCDS58.JPGhttp://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697330882.JPG http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/5822/katydp1.jpg 11 (11) Cut Copy – Hearts On Fire [4wks] (22-14-11-11) 12 (15) Sharleen Spiteri – All The Times I Cried [5wks) (35-28-22-15-12) 13 (19) Ida Maria – I Like You So Much Better When You Are Naked [3wks] (29-19-13) 14 (24) The Script – The Man Who Can’t Be Moved [5wks] (33-24-14) 15 (12) Duffy – Warwick Avenue [12wks] (18-4-1-1-1-1-2-6-7-9-12-15) 16 (10) Coldplay – Viva La Vida [6wks] (25-9-6-6-10-16) 17 (**) Bloc Party – Mercury [1wk] (17) 18 (20) Ava Leigh – Mad About The Boy [4wks] (29-23-20-18) 19 (14) MGMT – Electric Feel [8wks] (28-17-11-15-11-7-14-19) 20 (13) The Kooks – Shine On [6wks] (37-29-23-18-13-20) 21 (30) Chicane feat. August 1, 200816 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #219 – 03/08/2008 Chart Commentary After a week at the top Noah & The Whale fall to No.2 with ‘5 Years Time’, this weeks sees another new No.1 for the Verve with their brand new infectious release of ‘Love Is Noise’ taken from their fourth studio album ‘Forth’. The Ting Tings move a further 3 places to No.3 with ‘Shut Up And Let Me Go’ and Katy Perry finds herself going back up the chart at No.7 with ‘I Kissed A Girl’. Bloc Party climb 13 places to No.4 this week with their follow-up single to ‘The Flux’ with ‘Mercury’ bit different from their last release, but after awhile it has you hooked, its one of those tracks which you would give a second chance to listen to. This is more of a filler track between the second album and the impending third album, which is due out in the autumn. The highest new entry of 6 comes in at No.20 for Indie band Biffy Clyro with their new release of ‘Mountains’ this is a one-off single release, the follow-up album to ‘Puzzle’ is not released till 2009. The track is magnificently melodic, and has a crushingly addictive chorus everything about the song is fantastic, it’s all that you want in a good song. The verses a very similar to songs from ‘Puzzle’, but 'Mountain' is slightly more melodic than their previous offerings. The big piano chords gel well with the heavier guitars and you can't help but think that this may be the rock ballad the music industry has been calling out for. With the lead singer's distinctive Scottish accent and their already huge fan base, there can only be good things for Biffy Clyro in the future. The Automatic, Little Jackie, Gabriella Cilmi, The Fratellis and Glasvegas make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s top 40 Chart. August 8, 200816 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #220 – 10/08/2008 Chart Commentary No change at the top this week, The Verve maintain their lead at No.1 for a second week with ‘Love Is Noise’ taken from their fourth studio album ‘Forth’, while Noah & The Whale spend a second week at No.2 with ‘5 Years Time’ taken from their debut studio album ‘Peaceful The World Lays Me Down’. Bloc Party sneak up a place to No.3 with ‘Mercury’, meanwhile Katy Perry manoeuvres back up the chart at No.4 with ‘I Kissed A Girl’ while Kylie does not progress any further than No.5 with ‘The One’. Dublin based three-piece band The Script climb inside the top 10 this week at No.6 with ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’ taken from their debut self titled studio album ‘The Script’. The single features the undeniably perfect voice of Danny O’Donnoghue, lead singer of the band. The song features a melodramatic tune unlike their previous song “We Cry” which had an upbeat, RnB infusion that made the song a twist. The lyrics are absolutely amazing which makes it an epic ballad and very easy to listen to. Biffy Clyro are a Scottish rock group from Ayrshire whose members are Simon Neil (lead vocals, guitar), James Johnston (vocals bass guitar) and Ben Johnston(vocals drums). The band have had a dedicated following since the mid-1990s (producing an EP and four albums in total) and have expanded their following significantly in 2007 with their fourth album, ‘Puzzle’. Their new single ‘Mountains’ climbs up 12 places to No.8 with the most catchiest chorus to date, which takes the track to a new dimension and direction for the band. The highest new entry of 4 comes from Duffy with ‘Stepping Stone’ the follow up single to ‘Warwick Avenue; taken from the million selling album ‘Rockferry’. The album has spent 20 weeks plus in the top 5 since its first released and has not fallen out of the top 5 since. ‘Mercy’ remains the best selling single of the year so far, Duffy has made her mark in the music industry by storm this year, for me ‘Rockferry’ deserves all the accolades, as the most outstanding album of the year. Sandra Cretu, The Mystery Jets and Taio Cruz make up the rest of the new entires in this week’s top 40 chart. Will the Verve maintain the lead for a third week, or will Bloc Party edge their way further up the chart, unless Katy Perry puts a spanner in the works with her infectious track ‘I Kissed A Girl’, tune back in 7 days time and find out. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/VERVE002.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1768177.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/WEBB180SCD.JPG http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/5822/katydp1.jpg http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELCDSMIN.JPG 01 (01) The Verve – Love Is Noise [4wks] (3-2-1-1) 02 (02) Noah & The Whale – 5 Years Time [4wks] (18-1-2-2) 03 (04) Bloc Party – Mercury [3wks] (17-4-3) 04 (07) Katy Perry – I Kissed A Girl [7wks] (16-9-5-5-10-7-4) 05 (05) Kylie Minogue – The One (Freemasons Mix) [5wks] (20-8-5-5-5) 06 (11) The Script – The Man Who Can’t Be Moved [7wks] (33-24-14-11-6) 07 (03) The Ting Tings – Shut Up And Let Me Go [6wks] (14-8-7-6-3-7) 08 (20) Biffy Clyro – Mountains [2wks] (20-8) 09 (06) The Last Shadow Puppets – Standing Next To Me [8wks] (13-5-3-3-2-3-6-9) 10 (08) Madonna – Give It 2 Me [7wks] (2-2-1-1-4-8-10) http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697350612.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697328481.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/BBQCD2047.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/RUG301CD.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELCDSMAD.JPG 11 (21) The Automatic – Steve McQueen [2wks] (21-11) 12 (09) Ladyhawke – Paris Is Burning [8wks] (16-7-4-4-6-8-9-12) 13 (18) The Futureheads – Walking Backwards [3wks] (24-18-13) 14 (10) Ne’Yo – Closer [10wks] (9-2-1-1-1-2-4-7-10-14) 15 (19) Chicane feat. August 15, 200816 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #221 – 17/08/2008 Chart Commentary The top 4 singles are all non movers, The Verve hang on for a third week at No.1 with ‘Love Is Noise’ followed by Noah & The Whale ‘5 Years Time’ at No.2, Bloc Party ‘Mercury’ at No.3 and Katy Perry ‘I Kissed A Girl’ at No.4. Biffy Clyro just scrapes into the top 5 with ‘Mountains’ at No.5. Welsh quartet, The Automatic climb 4 places inside the top 10 at No.7 with their brand new release of ‘Steve McQueen’ very aptly named. Their debut album ‘Not Accepted Anywhere’ spawned the aptly named single "Monster" which reached number four on the U.K. singles chart, in June 2006. The follow-up album to ‘Not Accepted Anywhere’ with ‘This Is A Fix’ due for release, towards the end of this month. With a beefed-up arsenal of guitars and a snarling, infectious chorus, 'Steve McQueen' is a brilliant slice of old fashioned rawk. It's not clever, it's not original, but it sounds pretty terrific with the speakers turned up to the max. Duffy needs no special introduction on top of her best selling single ‘Mercy’ and a million debut selling album ‘Rockferry’ in the UK making her the year’s biggest selling artist to date. ‘Rockferry’ has sold in excess of 2.5 million copies worldwide, and is now certified gold in fifteen countries (including the U.S.). Stepping Stone’ is one of the many album highlights; it is a song about self-possession, strength and restraint. The music is dramatic, pulsating yet sparse, compelling the listener to focus on Duffy’s remarkable vocals and evocative lyrics, climbing 12 places up the chart at No.9. The highest new entry of 4 comes from Keane with ‘Spiralling’ in at No.10. Frontman Tom Chaplin said the track, recorded in Berlin, is “a train of thought about human endeavour, built on an outrageous groove”. The new single sounds like early Duran Duran track, with hooks from Keanes Somewhere Only We Know. And that is the problem with Keane, they have never come close to producing another track that comes near to Somewhere, and sadly never look like doing so. Their third studio album Perfect Symmetry will be released in October this year. Cyndi Lauper, Eric Prydz and Tail Cruz make up the reminder of the new entries in this week’s top 40 chart. Will the Verve manage another week at the top, or has their time finally ran out, as Katy Perry is just a few steps away from the elusive No.1 spot, unless Bloc Party edge themselves closer to the top of the pile, tune in next week and find out. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/VERVE002.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1774960.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/WEBB180SCD.JPG http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/5822/katydp1.jpg http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/BBQCD2047.JPG 01 (01) The Verve – Love Is Noise [4wks] (3-2-1-1-1) 02 (02) Noah & The Whale – 5 Years Time [4wks] (18-1-2-2-2) 03 (03) Bloc Party – Mercury [3wks] (17-4-3-3) 04 (04) Katy Perry – I Kissed A Girl [7wks] (16-9-5-5-10-7-4-4) 05 (08) Biffy Clyro – Mountains [3wks] (20-8-5) 06 (06) The Script – The Man Who Can’t Be Moved [6wks] (33-24-14-11-6-6) 07 (11) The Automatic – Steve McQueen [3wks] (21-11-7) 08 (05) Kylie Minogue – The One (Freemasons Mix) [6wks] (20-8-5-5-5-8) 09 (21) Duffy – Stepping Stone [2wks] (21-9) 10 (**) Keane – Spiralling [1wk] (10) http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697350612.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/BUN139CD.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELCDSMIN.JPG http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/9721/steppingstonebg4.png http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/KEANEPERFECTPRE.JPG 11 (09) The Last Shadow Puppets – Standing Next To Me [9wks] (13-5-3-3-2-3-6-9-11) 12 (10) Madonna – Give It 2 Me [8wks] (2-2-1-1-4-8-10-12) 13 (15) Chicane feat. August 22, 200816 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #222 – 24/08/2008 Chart Commentary I bet you never saw this coming the Script moves up 5 places to No.1 with ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’ taken from their excellent debut album ‘The Script’, its had an impressive chart run climbing up the chart slowly and a very impressive debut album, with some excellent tracks notably ‘Fall From Anything’, ‘Before The Worst’ and a few others, but on the whole, its new, fresh and easy to listen. The Verve slip down to No.2 with ‘Love Is Noise’ and Katy Perry edges her way up to the top very slowly taking a step at a time with ‘I Kissed A Girl’ at No.3. This week the chart sees some old tracks taking a U-turn back up the chart, for Scottish girl Sharleen Spiteri (formerly lead singer of Texas) at last peaks inside the top 10 at No.10 with her infectious ballad ‘All The Times I Cried’ taken from her debut studio album ‘Melody’. Other notable tracks making a U-turn come from Cut Copy and Coldplay. Glasgow based Glasvegas with their brand new calling card single ‘Daddy’s Gone’, climbing 14 places up the chart to No.9. It's essentially a ‘50s-tinged heartfelt ode to coping with the difficulty of the break-up of a family, which can also be found on their self-titled studio album ‘Glasvegas’. There are gorgeous "ay-ay-ay" harmonies, plenty of chest-beating vocal crescendos and it's all underpinned by a heart-wrenchingly earnest tale of absent fathers. Also big climbs for Cyndi Lauper ‘Into The Nightlife’ and Rihanna ‘Disturbia’ further down the chart. The highest new entry of 5 comes from Kings of Leon with ‘Sex On Fire’ in at No.11 taken from their up-coming new studio album ‘Only By The Night’. This has to be the best single they have ever created since their transformation, and makes it so radio friendly, its is a fully fledged song with a chorus and verses, rather than 'a groove'. Florence & The Machine, Vampire Weekend, The Presets, and Alicia Keys make up the reminder of the new entries in this week’s top 40 chart. Will Katy Perry ever get her No.1 hit or will she just move another notch to No.2 next week, each week she seems to be getting closer to the top, unless the Script hang on for another week, and not far behind Katy, Biffy Clyro are lurking in the shadows waiting to snatch a victory, with Duffy climbing up the chart very slowly, tune in 7 days time and find out. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697350612.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/VERVE002.JPG http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/5822/katydp1.jpg http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/46/mountainsvg9.png http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1774960.JPG 01 (06) The Script – The Man Who Can’t Be Moved [7wks] (33-24-14-11-6-6-1) 02 (01) The Verve – Love Is Noise [5wks] (3-2-1-1-1-2) 03 (04) Katy Perry – I Kissed A Girl [9wks] (16-9-5-5-10-7-4-4-3) 04 (05) Biffy Clyro – Mountains [4wks] (20-8-5-4) 05 (02) Noah & The Whale – 5 Years Time [6wks] (18-1-2-2-2-5) 06 (09) Duffy – Stepping Stone [3wks] (21-9-6) 07 (07) The Automatic – Steve McQueen [4wks] (21-11-7-7) 08 (03) Bloc Party – Mercury [4wks] (17-4-3-3-8) 09 (23) Glasvegas – Daddy’s Gone [4wks] (40-30-23-9) 10 (18) Sharleen Spiteri – All The Times I Cried [9wks) (35-28-22-15-12-17-20-18-10) http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/9721/steppingstonebg4.png http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/BUN139CD.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/WEBB180SCD.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/GOWOW007.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1769267.JPG 11 (**) Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire [1wk] (11) 12 (08) Kylie Minogue – The One (Freemasons Mix) [7wks] (20-8-5-5-5-8-12) 13 (15) Sandra Cretu – Hiroshima [3wks] (26-15-13) 14 (13) Chicane feat. August 29, 200816 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #223 – 31/08/2008 Chart Commentary Another change at the top this week, and its my 100th No.1 and it goes to Biffy Clyro ‘Mountains’ and Katy Perry has to settle for the runner up place of No.2 with ‘I Kissed A Girl’ which can also be found on her debut studio album ‘One Of The Boys’, while the Script ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’ falls down to No.3. Kings of Leon make a brave move up the chart at No.6 with ‘Sex On Fire’ taken from their forthcoming new studio album ‘Only By The Night’. This has to be the best single they have ever created since their transformation, and makes it so radio friendly to listen to. Rihanna makes a splash inside the top 10 at No.9 with ‘Disturbia’, what can I say, she already has had 7 hit singles from her best selling album of her career with ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ and spend 10 weeks at No.1 last year in the official chart with ‘Umbrella’. This girl can’t do anything wrong and accumulates another hit with ‘Disturbia’ which is more of a funkier R&B urban edge to it, with an infectious hook and a sexy video to boot. A little know fact the single ‘Disturbia’ was originally to be recorded by Rihanna’s boyfriend Chris Brown, however it was best suited for a female voice. Her career in the music business seems to be on a high at the moment selling out tours and records, hope she continue to dominate the charts for years to come. The highest new entry of 6 comes from the Gallagher Brothers (Noel & Liam), otherwise known as Oasis with their brand new single release ‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ at No.15, taken from their forthcoming new studio album ‘Dig Your Own Soul’. The single is an absolute class and Oasis at their best, I can’t really falter the single, it’s a gem, and probably become a classic in its own in years to come, like ‘Wonderwall’. Ladyhawke, Will Young, Friendly Fires, Portishead and We Are Scientists make up the reminder of this week’s new entries inside the top 40 chart. Will Biffy Clyro maintain their lead for a second week or will Katy Perry go one step further, unless Oasis put a spanner in the works and shoot right up to the top, tune in next week and find out. http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/46/mountainsvg9.png http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/5822/katydp1.jpg http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697350612.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/VERVE002.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697368907.JPG 01 (04) Biffy Clyro – Mountains [5wks] (20-8-5-4-1) 02 (03) Katy Perry – I Kissed A Girl [10wks] (16-9-5-5-10-7-4-4-3-2) 03 (01) The Script – The Man Who Can’t Be Moved [8wks] (33-24-14-11-6-6-1-3) 04 (02) The Verve – Love Is Noise [7wks] (3-2-1-1-1-2-4) 05 (11) Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire [2wks] (11-5) 06 (06) Duffy – Stepping Stone [4wks] (21-9-6-6) 07 (09) Glasvegas – Daddy’s Gone [5wks] (40-30-23-9-7) 08 (05) Noah & The Whale – 5 Years Time [7wks] (18-1-2-2-2-5-8) 09 (19) Rihanna – Disturbia [4wks] (38-31-19-9) 10 (07) The Automatic – Steve McQueen [5wks] (21-11-7-7-10) http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/9721/steppingstonebg4.png http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/GOWOW007.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1774960.JPG http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/8660/disturbiaxf3.png http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/BUN139CD.JPG 11 (17) Cyndi Lauper – Into The Nightlife [3wks] (28-17-11) 12 (08) Bloc Party – Mercury [5wks] (17-4-3-3-8-12) 13 (10) Sharleen Spiteri – All The Times I Cried [10wks) (35-28-22-15-12-17-20-18-10-13) 14 (15) The Last Shadow Puppets – Standing Next To Me [11wks] (13-5-3-3-2-3-6-9-11-15-14) 15 (**) Oasis - The Shock Of The Lightning [1wk] (15) 16 (13) Sandra Cretu – Hiroshima [4wks] (26-15-13-16) 17 (12) Kylie Minogue – The One (Freemasons Mix) [8wks] (20-8-5-5-5-8-12-17) 18 (22) Cut Copy – Hearts On Fire [9wks] (22-14-11-11-14-18-26-22-18) 19 (16) Madonna – Give It 2 Me [10wks] (2-2-1-1-4-8-10-12-16-19) 20 (18) Little Jackie – The World Should Revolve Around Me [5wks] (29-23-20-18-20) 21 (14) Chicane feat. September 5, 200816 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #224 – 07/09/2008 Chart Commentary Biffy Clyro hang on for a second week at No.1 with ‘Mountains’, while Katy Perry falls amazingly 6 places to No.8 with ‘I Kissed A Girl’, which gives the top 7 a fresh look. Firstly with Oasis up 13 places to No.2 with their lead single ‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ of their new studio album ‘Dig Your Own Soul’. Oasis seem to be back on form, and another classic single to remember in years to come, along with the likes of ‘Wonderwall’, ‘Live Forever’, ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ and many others. Kings Of Leon peaks at No.3 this week with ‘Sex On Fire’ a place lower Duffy continues to climb up the chart to No.4 with her brand new release ‘Stepping Stone’ taken from her debut studio album ‘Rockferry’ with sales over a million and also bags the best selling single of the year - ‘Mercy’. While Rihanna edges a couple of places up the chart to No.6 with ‘Disturbia’, the single can also be found on her studio album ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’. Rihanna just continues to churn hit after hit with infectious hooks and lyrics to her tracks each time. New Zealander born singer songwriter Pip Brown otherwise known as Ladyhawke climbs 17 places to No.7 with another infectious track to her debut single ‘Paris Is Burning’ with her infectious new track ‘Dusk Til’ Dawn’, taken from her debut studio album ‘Ladyhawke’. Ladyhawke was first attached to a four piece rock Wellington band ‘Two Lane Backtop’ in 2001 and disbanded 2 years later, her music influences are the likes of Stevie Nicks, Deep Purple and Joan Jett. Ladyhawke named herself after Rutger Hauer film ‘Ladyhawke’. The highest new entry of 4 at No.20 comes from the Black Kids who are an American indie pop band formed in Jacksonville, Florida, with their brand new track ‘Look At Me (When I Rock Wichoo)’ taken from their debut studio album ‘Partie Traumatic’ with producer Bernard Butler. The band consists of Reggie Youngblood on Guitar and vocals, Owen Holmes on bass guitar, Kevin Snow on drums, Dawn Watley on keyboards and vocals, and Reggie's sister Ali Youngblood also on keyboards and vocals. September 12, 200816 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #225 – 14/09/2008 Chart Commentary In just under 3 weeks in the chart Ladyhawke zooms up to the top spot from No.7 to No.1, with her infectious new track ‘Dusk Til Dawn’ taken from her debut album ‘Ladyhawke’. Oasis remain at No.2 for a second week with ‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ while last week’s No.1 from Biffy Clyro slips down to No.3 with ‘Mountains’. Swedish DJ Eric Prydz, not to be confused with the Swedish Chef from the Muppets climbs inside the top 10 to No.7 with his instrumental hit ‘Pjanno’. His last hit ‘Proper Education’ was a No.1 track in my personal chart at the beginning of 2007 for 2 weeks. ‘Call On Me’ was a wonderful pop moment with a lot of bums in your face, unfortunately there is no bare bums in the video for ‘Pjanno’. Will Young is back and graces the top 10 at No.8 with his new track ‘Changes’ taken from his forthcoming studio album ‘Let It Go’. Will puts in another faultless vocal on a track, which he co-wrote himself. It’s a kind of George Michael style sophistication with the London Studio Orchestra providing strings, while the melody is typically gentle but quietly effective. On this evidence Will Young is back on form and here to stay for good, while other Pop Idol wannabes are still lurking in the shadows. After so many months away the Kaiser Chiefs are back with their new track ‘Never Miss A Beat’ in at No.16, the highest new entry of 5, taken from their forthcoming third studio album ‘Off With Their Heads’. MGMT, Jason Mraz, Ne’Yo, Brandy and James Morrison make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s top 40 chart. Will Ladyhawke remain at No.1 for another week or more, as things stand in the top 10, Oasis are just knocking on her door, further down the top 10, Eric Prydz and Will Young are toe tapping slowly up the chart vying for the No.1 spot next week. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/MODCDS61.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PREOASISCDS.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697368907.JPG http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/46/mountainsvg9.png http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/8660/disturbiaxf3.png 01 (07) Ladyhawke – Dusk Til’ Dawn [3wks] (24-7-1) 02 (02) Oasis - The Shock Of The Lightning [3wks] (15-2-2) 03 (03) Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire [4wks] (11-5-3-3) 04 (01) Biffy Clyro – Mountains [7wks] (20-8-5-4-1-1-4) 05 (05) Rihanna – Disturbia [6wks] (38-31-19-9-5-5) 06 (04) Duffy – Stepping Stone [6wks] (21-9-6-6-4-6) 07 (12) Eric Prydz – Pjanno [4wks] (35-26-22-12-7) 08 (17) Will Young – Changes [3wks] (28-17-8) 09 (09) The Script – The Man Who Can’t Be Moved [10wks] (33-24-14-11-6-6-1-3-9-9) 10 (06) The Verve – Love Is Noise [9wks] (3-2-1-1-1-2-4-6-10) http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/9721/steppingstonebg4.png http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/DATA200CDS.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697344452.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697350612.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/VERVE002.JPG 11 (13) Noah & The Whale – 5 Years Time [9wks] (18-1-2-2-2-5-8-13-11) 12 (11) Cyndi Lauper – Into The Nightlife [5wks] (28-17-11-11-12) 13 (20) Black Kids – Look At Me (When I Rock Wichoo) [2wks] (20-13) 14 (10) Glasvegas – Daddy’s Gone [7wks] (40-30-23-9-7-10-14) 15 (08) Katy Perry – I Kissed A Girl [12wks] (16-9-5-5-10-7-4-4-3-2-8-15) 16 (**) Kaiser Chiefs – Never Miss A Beat [1wk] (16) 17 (15) Cut Copy – Hearts On Fire [11wks] (22-14-11-11-14-18-26-22-18-15-17) 18 (18) Bloc Party – Mercury [7wks] (17-4-3-3-8-12-18-18) 19 (25) Friendly Fires – Jump In The Pool [3wks] (35-25-19) 20 (16) Sharleen Spiteri – All The Times I Cried [12wks) (35-28-22-15-12-17-20-18-10-13-16-20) 21 (21) Vampire Weekend - Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa [4wks] (36-29-21-21) 22 (29) Imogen Heap – Not Now But Soon [2wks] (29-22) 23 (26) Chicane feat. September 19, 200816 yr Author Mart!ns Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #226 21/09/2008 Chart Commentary No shifting Pippa Brown this week, otherwise in the music industry she is better known as Ladyhawke spending a second week at No.1 with her infectious track Dusk Til Dawn which can also be found on her debut studio album Ladyhawke along with Paris Is Burning. Kings of Leon may be No.1 in the official chart with Sex On Fire unfortunately has to settle for a one-place climb to No.2 in my personal chart, while Oasis slip a place to No.3 with The Shock Of The Lightning. The reminder of the top 5 sees further climbers from Rihanna Disturbia and Will Young Changes. Cyndi Lauper Into The Nightlife peaks at No.8, gone are the days of a girl just want to have fun, this is a more serious side to Cyndi turning her music career to dance with her new studio album Bring Ya To The Brink, she is such a talented artist and a shame that she doesnt get the recognition she deserves in the UK. Cyndi is back on form much better than her previous album release of The Body Acoustic; surprisingly this is a very good album. Los Angeles based five-piece Iglu & Hartly release their debut single in the form of the catchy In This City, climbs 15 places to No.9. The band have finished recording their debut studio album, And Then Boom. And on the evidence of this single, it promises to drip killer pop hooks, mixed with their signature synths and raps. It takes a little getting used to, but once youve properly heard that killer chorus (which is designed for singing and “whoo-whooing” along to), its a cracking introduction to a band that we look set to hear a lot more from in the coming weeks. The highest new entry of 5 at No.16 comes from Sharleen Spiteri, with her follow up single to All Times I Cried with Stop I Dont Love You No More both tracks can be found on her first effort solo studio album Melody. Stop is a whip-cracking slice of bittersweet break-up pop in the classic Motown and Northern Soul tradition. Metallica, Sonny J and John Legend feat. Andre 3000 make up the reminder of this weeks top 40 new entries inside in the chart. September 26, 200816 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #227 – 28/09/2008 Chart Commentary The Kings of Leon are on fire this week and move a place to No.1 with ‘Sex On Fire’ it’s the lead single taken from their new album ‘Only By The Night’, while Ladyhawke drop a place to No.2 with ‘Dusk Til’ Dawn’. Oasis remain static at No.3 for a second week with The Shock And The Lightning, while Will Young ‘Changes’ and Iglu & Hartly ‘In This City’ make up the top 5. MGMT climb inside the top 10 at No.7 with their infectious new single ‘Kids’ taken from their debut studio album ‘Oracular Spectacular’ is another exceptional, melodic, hypnotic pop song. There are elements of electro pop and rock but most importantly the duo pay attention to hooks and clearly know what makes for sublime pop. MGMT are one of the best bands of the year to make an outstanding mark in the music industry for 2008. Kaiser Chiefs are back with a new track ‘Never Miss A Beat’ up to No.10, its the first track to be lifted off the band's third studio album 'Off With Their Heads' and sees a band emerging from the obvious 'pop' sensibility of their catalogue, 'Never Miss A Beat' enters the fray under a barrage of guitar squall backed with a keyboard led refrain coupled with a sound that veers away from previous outings. The track also features Lily Allen and New Young Pony on backing vocals. The highest new entry of 8 after a massive clearout of some deadwood comes from Fall Out Boy in at No.22, with their new single ‘I Don’t Care’, taken from their new studio album ‘Folie A Deux’. A relatively simple Gary Glitter-esque stomper with a delightfully snarky chorus ("I don't care what you think, as long as it's about me"), I Don't Care is the most straight-ahead rocker Fall Out Boy have ever done, and it's a clear indication that the band have abandoned their kitchen-sink approach to arrangements and are going for the jugular. Saint Etienne, White Lies, The Kooks, Client, Bassunter, Boyzone and The Flotbots make up the rest of the new entries in this week’s top 40 Chart. Seem Oasis have been stuck at No.2 and No.3 for the past 4 weeks, will the Gallagher Brothers notch up another No.1 hit next week under their belt, or will The Fall Out Boy make a huge dent inside the top 10 the track, or will Ther Killers have a high new entry next week with 'Human' the track has got No.1 hit written all over it, tune in 7 days time and find out. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697368907.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/MODCDS61.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PREOASISCDS.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697344452.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1778767.JPG 01 (02) Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire [6wks] (11-5-3-3-2-1) 02 (01) Ladyhawke – Dusk Til’ Dawn [5wks] (24-7-1-1-2) 03 (03) Oasis - The Shock Of The Lightning [5wks] (15-2-2-3-3) 04 (05) Will Young – Changes [5wks] (28-17-8-5-4) 05 (09) Iglu & Hartly – In This City [4wks] (33-24-9-5) 06 (04) Rihanna – Disturbia [8wks] (38-31-19-9-5-5-4-6) 07 (15) MGMT – Kids [3wks] (27-15-7) 08 (06) Biffy Clyro – Mountains [9wks] (20-8-5-4-1-1-4-6-8) 09 (08) Cyndi Lauper – Into The Nightlife [7wks] (28-17-11-11-12-8-9) 10 (11) Kaiser Chiefs – Never Miss A Beat [3wks] (16-11-10) http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/8660/disturbiaxf3.png http://s360.photobucket.com/albums/oo45/themagicposition85/th_kids.jpg http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/46/mountainsvg9.png http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697065922.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/BUN145CD.JPG 11 (16) Sharleen Spiteri – Stop I Don’t Love You No More [2wks] (16-11) 12 (20) Jason Mraz – I’m Yours [3wks] (34-20-12) 13 (19) Ne’Yo – Miss Independent [3wks] (32-19-13) 14 (07) Eric Prydz – Pjanno [7wks] (35-26-22-12-7-7-14) 15 (10) Duffy – Stepping Stone [8wks] (21-9-6-6-4-6-10-15) 16 (23) Brandy – Right Here (Departed) [3wks] (36-23-16) 17 (12) Glasvegas – Daddy’s Gone [9wks] (40-30-23-9-7-10-14-12-17) 18 (14) The Verve – Love Is Noise [11wks] (3-2-1-1-1-2-4-6-10-18) 19 (13) The Script – The Man Who Can’t Be Moved [12wks] (33-24-14-11-6-6-1-3-9-9-13-19) 20 (24) Metallica – The Day That Never Comes [2wks] (24-20) 21 (17) Noah & The Whale – 5 Years Time [11wks] (18-1-2-2-2-5-8-13-11-17-21) 22 (**) Fall Out Boy – I Don’t Care [1wk] (22) 23 (18) Katy Perry – I Kissed A Girl [14wks] (16-9-5-5-10-7-4-4-3-2-8-15-18-23) 24 (**) Saint Etienne – Burnt Out Car [1wk] (24) 25 (21) Bloc Party – Mercury [10wks] (17-4-3-3-8-12-18-18-21-25) 26 (32) James Morrison – You Make It Real [3wks] (39-32-26) 27 (27) Imogen Heap – Not Now But Soon [4wks] (29-22-27-27) 28 (38) John Legend feat. October 3, 200816 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #228 – 04/10/2008 Chart Commentary This week sees a change inside the top 10 with 2 new entries, with the first of the new entries at No.1 from Snow Patrol with their brand new release ‘Take Back The City’ taken from their soon to be released fifth studio album ‘A Hundred Million Suns’ following on from their multi million selling album ‘Eyes Open’, which sold 2.1 million copes in the UK and over 1 million in the USA. The album was recorded through the summer 2008 in Hansa Studios in Berlin (where Bowie recorded ‘Low, Heroes and Lodger’). Kings Of Leon slips down to No.2 with ‘Sex On Fire’ while at No.4 sees another new entry from the Killers, with their new single ‘Human’ taken from their third studio album ‘Day And Age’, have to admit its catchy and no doubt gonna be a huge hit. ‘Human’ is a brilliant tune, great lyrics, the words are pretty powerful and great production, Pet Shop Boys all over it! I love it! Pet Shop boys and Killers hurry and do a track together, for me this is the best track of the year. MGMT climb 3 places to No.4 with ‘Kids’ while Oasis drop 2 places to No.5 with their brand new release the ‘Shock Of The Lightning’. Jason Mraz climbs inside the top 10 at No.10 with ‘I’m Yours’ taken from his third studio album ‘We Steal, We Dance, We Steal Things’ it’s a clever catchy laid back track and moves nicely along, if you've never heard anything by Jason Mraz before - I suggest you start with 'I'm Yours' as it will win you over and you'll fall completely head over heals for his amazing voice. October 17, 200816 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #230 – 18/10/2008 Chart Commentary Snow Patrol holding firm to the No.1 spot for the third week with ‘Take Back The City’ the single can also be found on their new studio album ‘A Hundred Million Suns’ due for release next Monday while MGMT swap places with the Killers at No.2 with ‘Kids’ and the Killers slip a place to No.3 with ‘Human’ taken from their forthcoming studio album ‘Day and Age’. Keane move up 5 places to No.4 with ‘The Lovers Are Losing’ taken from their third studio album ‘Perfect Symmetry’ which hit the shops this week, much better than their previous album I must say, some good stand out tracks from ‘Again and Again’, ‘Perfect Symmetry’ and a few others, I truly recommend this album, it’s a perfect addition to a Keane collection, with a different stamp than their previous attempts, its not ‘Hopes and Fears’ or ‘Under The Iron Sea’ but easy on the ear to listen to. Kings of Leon make up the top 5 at No.5 with ‘Sex On Fire’. The new James Bond Movie ‘Quantum Of Solace’ hits the movie screens next month, the new James Bond them is written and performed by Jack White & Alicia Keys, on the aptly title track ‘Another Way To Die’ at No.6, its different from other Bond themes, you either like it or hate it, but it still has that Bond quirkiness to it. It is also the first Bond theme performed as a collaboration. The highest new entry of 6 comes from Bloc Party with their follow up single to ‘Mercury’ with ‘Talons’, in at No.16, taken from their third studio album ‘Intimacy’. Get ready for a wild ride; expect their new album to be better than ‘A Weekend In The City’, Bloc Party continue their flair for innovation as they strive to push boundaries, which should be applauded. It's definitely different from all their previous stuff, they are pioneers in what they do, some of the guitar rifts are amazing.... almost electronic? Dido, Girls Aloud, Noah & The Whale, Sash! And Laura Marling make up the reminder of the new entries inside this week’s top 40 chart, Will MGMT edge themselves a step further, or will the Killers do a rebound back up the chart next week, unless Keane pulls a spanner in the works, check back in 7 days time and find out. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1784828.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697387482.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/KILLERSDAY.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELKL.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697368907.JPG 01 (01) Snow Patrol – Take Back The City [3wks] (1-1-1) 02 (03) MGMT – Kids [6wks] (27-15-7-3-3-2) 03 (02) The Killers – Human [3wks] (4-2-3) 04 (09) Keane – The Lovers Are Losing [2wks] (9-4) 05 (04) Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire [9wks] (11-5-3-3-2-1-2-4-5) 06 (13) Jack White & Alicia Keys – Another Way To Die [3wks] (31-13-6) 07 (07) Kaiser Chiefs – Never Miss A Beat [6wks] (16-11-10-11-7-7) 08 (06) Iglu & Hartly – In This City [7wks] (33-24-9-5-7-6-8) 09 (05) Oasis - The Shock Of The Lightning [8wks] (15-2-2-3-3-5-5-9) 10 (08) Jason Mraz – I’m Yours [6wks] (34-20-12-10-8-10) http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/XLS007.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/BUN145CD.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1778767.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PREOASISCDS.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/AT0308CD.JPG 11 (21) The Last Shadow Puppets – My Mistakes Were Made For You [2wks] (21-11) 12 (16) Sugababes – Girls [3wks] (25-16-12) 13 (10) Ladyhawke – Dusk Til’ Dawn [8wks] (24-7-1-1-2-6-10-13) 14 (11) Fall Out Boy – I Don’t Care [4wks] (22-12-11-14) 15 (28) Ting Tings – Be The One [2wks] (28-15) 16 (**) Bloc Party – Talons [1wk] (16) 17 (14) Rihanna – Disturbia [11wks] (38-31-19-9-5-5-4-6-8-14-17) 18 (12) Sharleen Spiteri – Stop I Don’t Love You No More [5wks] (16-11-13-12-18) 19 (**) Dido – Don’t Believe In Love [1wk] (19) 20 (15) Will Young – Changes [8wks] (28-17-8-5-4-9-15-20) 21 (17) White Lies – Death [4wks] (29-20-17-21) 22 (18) Biffy Clyro – Mountains [12wks] (20-8-5-4-1-1-4-6-8-14-18-22) 23 (**) Girls Aloud – The Promise [1wk] (23) 24 (24) The Kooks – Sway [4wks] (30-27-24-24) 25 (20) Cyndi Lauper – Into The Nightlife [10wks] (28-17-11-11-12-8-9-15-20-25) 26 (19) Brandy – Right Here (Departed) [6wks] (36-23-16-16-19-26) 27 (35) Goldfrapp – Clowns [2wks] (35-27) 28 (23) Duffy – Stepping Stone [10wks] (21-9-6-6-4-6-10-15-18-23-28) 29 (31) Empire Of The Sun – Walking On A Dream [3wks] (39-31-29) 30 (**) Noah & The Whale – Shape Of My Heart [1wk] (30) 31 (22) Ne’Yo – Miss Independent [7wks] (32-19-13-17-22-31) 32 (25) The Verve – Love Is Noise [14wks] (3-2-1-1-1-2-4-6-10-18-21-25-32) 33 (38) Razorlight – Wire To Wire [2wks] (38-33) 34 (**) Sash! feat. October 24, 200816 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #231 – 26/10/2008 Chart Commentary The top 4 remains the same as last week, Snow Patrol are perched at the top with ‘Take Back The City’, MGMT with ‘Kids’ at No.2, The Killers with ‘Human at No.3 and finally Keane with ‘The Lovers Are Losing’ at No.4, while the Last Shadow Puppets make up the top 5 at No.5 with ‘My Mistakes Were Made For You’ taken from their debut album ‘The Age Of The Understatement’, one of the stand out albums of the year. Now, for a couple of climbers in the top 10, firstly from Bloc Party with their new single ‘Talons’ at No.7, the follow up single to ‘Mercury’ taken from their forthcoming new studio album ‘Intimacy’, pushing their boundaries for a harder edge with their new raw material, already hot tipped to be one of their finest albums to date, after their last studio album ‘A Weekend In The City’. Fall Out Boy resides inside the top 10, at No.8 with their new single ‘I Don’t Care’ taken from their new studio album ‘Folie A Deux’, following their previous attempt of ‘Infinity On High’. Their new sound finds Fall Out Boy ditching the dark, chaotic elements that were the bedrock of their early albums, they opt for a straight up, Bolan-aping glam rock stomp. Nadine, Cheryl, Sarah, Kimberley and Nicola are better know as Girls Aloud stomp up the charts to No.9 with their new single ‘The Promise’, not so catchy as ‘Call The Shots’ but still a memorable track from them, taken from their new studio album ‘Out Of Control’. I think Girls Aloud have made some catchy tunes in the past and they seem to be rock solid just as any other girl band out there at the moment, their main rivals in the music business seem to be The Sugababes, but both bands have stood the test of times, and seem to be rock solid as a group. The highest new entry of 4 comes from Guru Josh Project, with a re-working of ‘Infinity’ for 2008, the track was first released February 1990 and peaked at No.5, now its been given a new lease of life and still has the saxophone-infused, shimmering tune that it is well known for, it’s a total trance of brilliance and enters the chart at No.15, the hottest dance anthem of the year goes without saying and can be heard all over the airwaves and in nightclubs. The Verve, Leona Lewis and the Sterophonics make up the reminder of this week’s new releases in the top 40 chart and a re-entry for Keane with ‘Spiralling’ on the back of their new album ‘Perfect Symmetry’ which has been playing non-stop all week, an excellent addition to my Keane collection. As for next week, any of the top 4 could take the No.1 spot unless Snow Patrol remain for a fifth week as their new album gets its release as of Monday, tune in 7 days time and find out. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1784828.JPG http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/9978/thekillershumanofficialus1.jpg http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697387482.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELKL.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/3627190.JPG 01 (01) Snow Patrol – Take Back The City [4wks] (1-1-1-1) 02 (02) MGMT – Kids [7wks] (27-15-7-3-3-2-2) 03 (03) The Killers – Human [4wks] (4-2-3-3) 04 (04) Keane – The Lovers Are Losing [3wks] (9-4-4) 05 (11) The Last Shadow Puppets – My Mistakes Were Made For You [3wks] (21-11-5) 06 (06) Jack White & Alicia Keys – Another Way To Die [4wks] (31-13-6-6) 07 (16) Bloc Party – Talons [2wks] (16-7) 08 (14) Fall Out Boy – I Don’t Care [5wks] (22-12-11-14-8) 09 (23) Girls Aloud – The Promise [2wks] (23-9) 10 (05) Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire [10wks] (11-5-3-3-2-1-2-4-5-10) http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/XLS007.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/3627190.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1788723.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1788035.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697368907.JPG 11 (15) Ting Tings – Be The One [3wks] (28-15-11) 12 (19) Dido – Don’t Believe In Love [2wks] (19-12) 13 (08) Iglu & Hartly – In This City [8wks] (33-24-9-5-7-6-8-13) 14 (07) Kaiser Chiefs – Never Miss A Beat [7wks] (16-11-10-11-7-7-14) 15 (**) Guru Josh Project – Infinity 2008 [1wk] (15) 16 (10) Jason Mraz – I’m Yours [7wks] (34-20-12-10-8-10-16) 17 (09) Oasis - The Shock Of The Lightning [9wks] (15-2-2-3-3-5-5-9-17) 18 (12) Sugababes – Girls [4wks] (25-16-12-18) 19 (13) Ladyhawke – Dusk Til’ Dawn [9wks] (24-7-1-1-2-6-10-13-19) 20 (33) Razorlight – Wire To Wire [3wks] (38-33-20) 21 (17) Rihanna – Disturbia [12wks] (38-31-19-9-5-5-4-6-8-14-17-21) 22 (27) Goldfrapp – Clowns [3wks] (35-27-22) 23 (29) Empire Of The Sun – Walking On A Dream [4wks] (39-31-29-23) 24 (34) Sash! – Raindrops (Encore Une Fais) [2wks] (34-24) 25 (18) Sharleen Spiteri – Stop I Don’t Love You No More [6wks] (16-11-13-12-18-25) 26 (**) The Verve – Rather Be [1wk] (26) 27 (30) Noah & The Whale – Shape Of My Heart [2wks] (30-27) 28 (22) Biffy Clyro – Mountains [13wks] (20-8-5-4-1-1-4-6-8-14-18-22-28) 29 (20) Will Young – Changes [9wks] (28-17-8-5-4-9-15-20-29) 30 (24) The Kooks – Sway [5wks] (30-27-24-24-30) 31 (25) Cyndi Lauper – Into The Nightlife [11wks] (28-17-11-11-12-8-9-15-20-25-31) 32 (28) Duffy – Stepping Stone [12wks] (21-9-6-6-4-6-10-15-18-23-28-32) 33 (Re) Keane – Spiralling [11wks] (10-24-23-28-33-37-35-X-X-X-33) 34 (37) Laura Marling – Night Terror [2wks] (37-34) 35 (26) Brandy – Right Here (Departed) [7wks] (36-23-16-16-19-26-35) 36 (**) Leona Lewis – Forgive Me [1wk] (36) 37 (**) Stereophonics – You’re My Star [1wk] (37) 38 (32) The Verve – Love Is Noise [14wks] (3-2-1-1-1-2-4-6-10-18-21-25-32-38) 39 (21) White Lies – Death [5wks] (29-20-17-21-39) 40 (31) Ne’Yo – Miss Independent [7wks] (32-19-13-17-22-31-40) ===== DROPOUTS Client – Six In The Morning [4wks] (37-28-26)-35 Katy Perry – I Kissed A Girl [17wks] (16-9-5-5-10-7-4-4-3-2-8-15-18-23-29-36-36) Saint Etienne – Burnt Out Car [4wks] (24-22-29-38) Eric Prydz – Pjanno [10wks] (35-26-22-12-7-7-14-19-30-39) James Morrison – You Make It Real [6wks] (39-32-26-23-27-40) ===== TOP 40 CHART STATS New Entries: 4 Re Entry: 1 Climbers: 12 Fallers: 18 Non Movers: 5 Highest New Entry: The Verve – Rather Be (No.15) Highest Climber: Girls Aloud – The Promise (23->9) up 14 places Highest Faller: White Lies – Death (21->39) down 18 places Non Movers: Snow Patrol (1), MGMT (2), Killers (3), Keane (4), Jack White & Alicia Keys (6) Longest Chart Runner: The Verve – Love Is Noise (14wks) ===== FUTURE TRACKS Madonna – Miles Away Christina Aguilera – Keeps Getting Better The Script – Breakeven Duffy – Rain On Your Parade Katy Perry – Hot N Cold Coldplay – Lost Oasis – I’m Outta Time VV Brown – Crying Blood Kanye West – Love Lockdown Christian Falk feat. October 31, 200816 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #232 – 02/11/2008 Chart Commentary Snow Patrol cements their position at No.1 for a fifth week with ‘Take Back The City’ which earns the longest stay at No.1 for 2008, the track can also be found on their new studio album ‘A Hundred Million Suns’ following on their 2 million selling album ‘Eyes Open’. Their new album is a gem and there are some stand out tracks like ‘Engines’, ‘Set Down Your Glass’ and their next single to be ‘Crack The Shutters’, great album to add to any Snow Patrol collection. The Killers move back up the chart to No.2 with ‘Human’, MGMT at No.3 with ‘Kids’ and a non mover at No.4 for Keane with ‘The Lovers Are Losing, and Bloc Party make up the top 5 with ‘Talons’. Dido leaps inside the top 10 at No.8 with ‘Don’t Believe In Love’ taken from her long awaited new third studio album ‘Safe Trip Home’, the single marks a different direction for her, its like marmite, you either like it or hate it, but it grows on you after a few more listens. After 2 successful albums, ‘No Angel’ and ‘Life For Rent’, her new album might not appeal to her usual standard of the first 2, but hopefully I be proven wrong. Guru Josh climbs inside the top 10 at No.9 with a re-working of ‘Infinity’ for 2008, the track was first released February 1990 and peaked at No.5, now its been given a new lease of life and still has the saxophone-infused, shimmering tune that it is well known for, it’s a total trance of brilliance. The highest new entry of 5 is from Kanye West at No.15, with his new track ‘Love Lockdown’, this is a grower, at first I didn’t feel nothing for it, I never liked his previous material apart from ‘Diamonds’ which was a reworking of a Shirley Bassey hit, this seems to be one of his best hits to date for me as it sounds like a straight forward track with no gimmicks or hip hop ranting over it. The Script, Christian Falk feat. Robyn, Christina Aguilera, and VV Brown make up the reminder of the new entries in this week’s Top 40 Chart. Will Snow Patrol remain at No.1 for a sixth week or will the Killers edge closer to the No.1 spot with ‘Human’, unless Dido pulls a spanner out of the woodwork, tune in 7 days time and find out. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1784828.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1785120.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697387482.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PRERELKL.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/3627190.JPG 01 (01) Snow Patrol – Take Back The City [5wks] (1-1-1-1-1) 02 (03) The Killers – Human [5wks] (4-2-3-3-2) 03 (02) MGMT – Kids [8wks] (27-15-7-3-3-2-2-3) 04 (04) Keane – The Lovers Are Losing [3wks] (9-4-4) 05 (07) Bloc Party – Talons [3wks] (16-7-5) 06 (08) Fall Out Boy – I Don’t Care [6wks] (22-12-11-14-8-6) 07 (09) Girls Aloud – The Promise [3wks] (23-9-7) 08 (12) Dido – Don’t Believe In Love [3wks] (19-12-8) 09 (15) Guru Josh Project – Infinity 2008 [2wks] (15-9) 10 (05) The Last Shadow Puppets – My Mistakes Were Made For You [4wks] (21-11-5-10) http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1788723.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1788035.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697391362.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/MAELCD100.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/RUG309CD.JPG 11 (20) Razorlight – Wire To Wire [4wks] (38-33-20-11) 12 (26) The Verve – Rather Be [2wks] (26-12) 13 (06) Jack White & Alicia Keys – Another Way To Die [5wks] (31-13-6-6-13) 14 (10) Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire [11wks] (11-5-3-3-2-1-2-4-5-10-14) 15 (24) Sash! – Raindrops (Encore Une Fais) [3wks] (34-24-15) 16 (**) Kanye West – Love Lockdown [1wk] (16) 17 (13) Iglu & Hartly – In This City [9wks] (33-24-9-5-7-6-8-13-17) 18 (11) Ting Tings – Be The One [4wks] (28-15-11-18) 19 (22) Goldfrapp – Clowns [4wks] (35-27-22-19) 20 (**) The Script – Breakeven [1wk] (20) 21 (23) Empire Of The Sun – Walking On A Dream [5wks] (39-31-29-23-21) 22 (16) Jason Mraz – I’m Yours [8wks] (34-20-12-10-8-10-16-22) 23 (**) Christian Falk feat. November 7, 200816 yr Author Mart!n’s Top 40 Reload Chart Chart #233 – 09/11/2008 Chart Commentary It’s time for a change at the top the Killers finally peak at No.1 with 'Human' taken from their new studio album 'Day And Age', while Snow Patrol slip a place to No.2 with 'Take Back The City' while Guru Josh climbs a further 6 places up the chart with the new re-mastered version of 'Infinity' for 2008. Girls Aloud still continue to climb to No.4 with 'The Promise' and MGMT with 'Kids' make up the top 5. Robyn makes a return to the top 10 she is actually a featured artist on Christian Falk's track. Christian Falk is a Swedish producer who is about to release his second solo album “People Say” and it is first solo material since his debut in 1999. For the albums first single “Dream On” he has brought in the number Swedish songstress Robyn to provide the vocals. The song was slightly surprising as going into the track I had something completely different in mind. “Dream On” is a rather uplifting track with a superior vocal by Robyn. I have never heard her sound this good. A track that tries to tug at your emotions always has the chance of sounding a bit hooky, climbing 17 places to No.6. Razorlight climb a further 5 places to No.7 with 'Wire To Wire' taken from their new album 'Slipway Fires'. Typically dramatic and epic in its expressions, this release is slightly more bombastic than before, and incorporates a rawer, edgier rock dynamic in their direction. Kanye West makes an appearance in the top 10 at No.8 with 'Love Lockdown', makes a change for me to have a track in the top 10 by Kanye West, not really keen on the artist, but this track, has struck a chord with me, and really different from his previous material, no gimmicks, plain and simple and easy to listen on the ears without adding hip hop elements. The Verve return to the top 10 following on their previous hit 'Love Is Noise' with 'Rather Be' both tracks can be found on their fourth studio album aptly titled quite easily 'Forth'. Their album has not met their expectations of their past material, but still ranks as a good album in my eyes, but 'Urban Hymns' is exceptional. The highest new entry of 6 comes from the Welsh singer Duffy in at No.15 with her brand new track 'Rain On Your Parade' which is featured on a soon to be released deluxe version of 'Rockferry'. 'Rockferry’ has already amassed over 1 million sales this year and remains the best selling album of the year so far. Friendly Fires, Lisa Mitchell, Beyoncé, Katy Perry and Adele make up the reminders of this week's new entries in the top 40 chart. Will the Killers remain at No.1 for a second week or will Christian Falk feat.
