Posted March 13, 201411 yr So this was the lead single of the unreleased Original Doll album, back in 2005 I think. Do you think it would've been a hit back then? _2potf7rWjo It even made it's way onto national radio, which surprised me (#1 most requested too). It really was almost released. I absolutely love this song! Especially this version, the original demo version, rather than the other one. Her vocals are better, and also the lyrics are more exciting "don't have a breakdown, you'll hit the freakin' wall!" It's amazing how the finished version made her seem like she has a shitty voice. I love the religious part with the choir in the middle, it's almost Like A Prayer-ish. It's a really well produced song imo. Edited March 13, 201411 yr by Euphorique
March 13, 201411 yr I find this version more interesting: Would love to know the significance behind "she's been cloned"? I love this song, I really think it is the biggest pity of her career that Original Doll never came to fruition. I don't know how big it would have been sales-wise but the whole thing would have been a huge moment I am sure. It's a crime that we'll never hear anything from it again, but I really wish I knew Britney's thoughts about it at this stage in her life.
March 13, 201411 yr Author That's the finished version, I dont like it as much, for the reasons mentioned above. I love the conspiracy theories out there, that Britney was singing about the Illuminati on the album, and that's why Jive shelved the album  There are all sorts of loonies out there. To be honest, from the songs I've heard from OD the era, I only really like Mona Lisa, And Then We Kiss, Rebellion and Dramatic. But I'm not even 100% those are all from the album or leftovers from other albums. It's kinda sad how even bonus tracks dont get performed, considering some of them are her best work. I'm also inclined to agree that it would've been a hit, even if everyone was obsessed with R&B and singer songwriter stuff back then. It's just classic pop. Edited March 13, 201411 yr by Euphorique
March 13, 201411 yr The unreleased version is so superior to the final one. Mona Lisa and Chaotic bring back so many memories. I was only a fan since 'In the Zone' and 'The Original Doll' was the first Britney album I was "waiting for" and I remember having Mona Lisa on repeat for days and being really excited. Good times.
March 13, 201411 yr They wouldn't have been hit singles for 2 factors... 1) The public were sick of Britney during the Chaotic era... she literally was everywhere and hadn't stopped since the kiss in 2003. I remember reading an article titled "Go the f*** away Britney". 2) Even in 2006 when I first heard "Mona Lisa" there was NO way it was ever going to be a single. All that would have happened is, if she hadn't of got pregnant, she would have an unreleased album sitting in her catalogue until she compromised and recorded hit singles.
March 13, 201411 yr Author There's been articles like that since the early 2000s, hardly stopped Britney from still being huge and having hit singles ;) I think Mona Lisa had all the ingredients anyway. It's too bad it was shelved.
March 13, 201411 yr But it was really bad during '05. And then the events that followed people felt sorry for her. Aside from the fact she snuck into Ryan Seacrest's radio show that day because Jive would never release that song.
March 13, 201411 yr Author I think her pregnancy was the main reason the album was shelved. Back then promo was everything, and there's no way Brit would've been able to handle. Nowadays she can do whatever she wants and not give a rats ass if she performs and promotes, but back then that was not the case. There's no real reason for Jive to snub the song, apart from being darker than her usual stuff until then, it was a perfectly good pop song. Edited March 13, 201411 yr by Euphorique
March 14, 201411 yr MONA LISA IS AMAZING. It basically predicted everything that was about to happen. "They want her to break down and be the legend of the fall". It was basically her continuing to take full artistic control, and as a fan, I LOVED it. This "Chaotic" and "Someday" were all shaping up to be a fantastic record.
March 14, 201411 yr I'm always confused what is considered "The Original Doll" and what is considered "Blackout". I think these were TOD: Rebellion Chaotic Money, Love & Happiness Ouch Over To You Now Mona Lisa Look Whose Talking Now Peep Show
March 14, 201411 yr Author Actually never mind, Rebellion is most likely for Blackout because it premiered only in 2006. Shame it never leaked in full. Edited March 14, 201411 yr by Euphorique
March 14, 201411 yr I think it was tossed around both albums. It was up on her website with that lion thing. And when the clip of it was played in the car, the fans were in meltdown mode.
March 14, 201411 yr Author I still am lol. Rebellion sounded so badass in that clip, its also slightly different to the snippet that leaked. Of course Britney had to drive away once the song started  The Rebellion mystery continues to this day

March 16, 201411 yr Author Rumored video concepts: Another rumor said "It was shot inside a church. Britney was wearing a black dress, leading a bunch of nuns who all had black veils. Some were carrying candles, while Britney was carrying a rosary. They were walking slowly towards the altar, where a black coffin lies. In the end, the video's twist would shock everybody - Britney is inside the coffin while the other Britney looks through the coffin and tears run down her eyes. They say the video is guaranteed to be the greatest shocker. This is still an unconfirmed rumor. The album is tentatively due late August. The working title is "Your Original Doll." (Unconfirmed) (December 31, 2004) "Remember the rumor of the Mona Lisa video where Britney is inside a church and another Britney is inside the coffin. Apparently, the rumor is escalating and new details have been leaked. The video, according to the e-mail that is making rounds in e-group chains, starts with a close-up of a painting. The painting is a princess, with a crown, a scepter, and a beautiful gown. The princess in the painting, ironically, though, neither smiles nor frowns, just like the Mona Lisa painting. After which we realize that we are inside a castle, and then suddenly a door opens and that exact same princess in the painting is seen sitting on her bed crying. The weird thing is that the face of the princess is never shown. Suddenly, a man enters the room and that takes the princess by surprise. Then comes the "ladies and gentlemen, i've got a story to tell.." Britney is wearing a black gown. She is inside a forest looking through a muddy pond which then opens up and brings us back into the castle. A struggle happens inside the room. Suddenly we see the princess being chased by the man. The chase ends up inside the same forest where a girl falls into the muddy pond. A chariot stops in front of the girl. An old man steps down from the chariot and offers his hand to the girl. Then, out of nowhere, a bullet is shot, killing the girl. A hand is shown with the gun. On the last part, we see Britney inside a church with a bunch of nuns. They're walking slowly towards the altar where a coffin lies. Finally, Britney looks through the coffin, and we see the blond princess is actually Britney herself. But the twist is that Britney in the black dress is actually holding a gun as she sort of mourns in front of the coffin."(January 3, 2005)
March 17, 201411 yr I think the concept was definitely true. She tried to use a new version of the concept with the "Gimme More" video.
