March 24, 201411 yr That doesn't sound fair in any account. Why would Australia only use jury votes? Certainly if they went ahead with it they'd have to let their 5am viewers vote. And votes cast from the public at the semis? The semis are broadcast at the same hour as the final so I really can't see your point there. I rather have Australia as we have them now: enthusiasts. It shows you don't need to have a song in the contest to enjoy it. A few European countries should learn from them... *cof* Turkey *cof* Slovakia *cof* Czech Republic *cof* Luxembourg *cof* Well as far as I remember it isn't broadcast live in Australia ? They have it over 3 day period and they do their own vote after the live contest and compare their result to actually won. So if the 2 semis are shown on fri/sat in Australia and they vote - the highest votes are tallied for 12-1 to be used as Australia's votes in the final which is shown in Europe on Saturday and then broadcast in Australia on Sunday. It's just an idea :P Re your comment about the Mediterranean countries being allowed to take part because they are part of the broadcasting area... Yep I get that and understand that's why they're allowed to participate but it is just as stupid as letting Australia take part in a show called eurovision... At least Australia is culturally and mostly ethnically of European decent rather than just being close to Europe and being able to pick up a signal.... Edited March 24, 201411 yr by Jack89

At least Australia is culturally and mostly ethnically of European decent rather than just being close to Europe and being able to pick up a signal.... So if Australia takes part then how do they vote in the Semi-Finals? Do they host a poll a week before the show so they decide their Semi-Final votes as well? They do broadcast the show with a delay but this is against the rules if you take part in the contest. They'd have to show it LIVE and have the vote procedure at the same time. Letting them bend the rules for one country is silly. Why don't they allow the same for Azerbaijan then since the show goes live late in the night there? It's called Eurovision primarily because it's a contest by and for the European Broadcasting Union, not necessarily because it's only for Europe. As for cultures and ethnicities, surely the Ottoman Empire counted for something. A lot of the Portuguese and Spanish cultures, especially in the southern regions of these countries, were influenced by all those arabs. Also, Europe itself is a sea of cultures so shunning countries out purely because they have totally different customs in this day and age is an incredibly silly thing to suggest.

Technically they could all be broadcast live and then repeated with An Australian approach for viewership. It wouldn't be impossible or ideal but they could make it work with a few well thought out ideas.. I get all your points and they're totally valid but I think basing the contest on where a signal can reach is rather ridiculous... But we will just have to agree to disagree ;p

It's of little importance what a casual viewer thinks about it. It's still the EBU contest. It's a bit like our Buzzjack Song Contest here. Every poster in the Buzzjack forum (metaphor for the European Broadcasting Area) can create a country and take part, not just those who post in the Pop Forum (metaphor for geopolitical Europe). If Morocco is part of this community why wouldn't they be able to participate in the contest if they so wish to? Because they're not inside the European borders? This contest has no borders.
March 25, 201411 yr The Mediterranean nations are allowed to participate because they are part of the European Broadcasting Area. I though it had to do with being in the same continent, but then we have israel which is in middle east. If Australia will join in how about Brazil, or Canada? they are closer and have a lot of european heritage too, I would love to see Cape Verde on it they have plenty of music to offer. March 25, 201411 yr Why don't they allow the same for Azerbaijan then since the show goes live late in the night there? tbh it only starts at midnight there (at 11pm here as well and no one is complaining (ALWAYS found it RIDIQ that people in the GMT+0 zone FUCKING FALL ASLEEP in the middle of the show. WHO THE FUCK GOES TO SLEEP AT 10PM (Mikey aside~))), which is so much better than the situation in East Russia and Australia and such, so it's not that bad. Australia love Eurovision. That sets them apart from Canada And Brazil despite European heritage and shit. There.
March 25, 201411 yr I wouldn't have an issue with Australia competing, the only thing I'd wonder is how long then until the USA wanted to enter, or New Zealand, or Japan? I suppose given Australia's relationship with the contest, a special permission could be given. As for the time difference, couldn't they show the second rehearsals and let the Australian public vote on it a day (or even hours) before the actual live show. It's not impossible to deal with if the desire is there.
March 25, 201411 yr I hope Malta will still qualify despite being chosen to go first, I think they will be fine! Well some people have it down as a potential winner, so if a contender becomes one of just FIVE countries to miss out purely because they were chosen to perform first out of 15. Honestly people, Armenia are at no risk either. Neither even needs considering!
March 25, 201411 yr I though it had to do with being in the same continent, but then we have israel which is in middle east. Well you thought wrong. A little research goes a long way you know?

I don't think it's feasible for Australia to join in, no matter how many rules you try to bend.
