March 30, 201411 yr Author Definitely it's top 3 (or top 2, if both versions of your previous # 1 were combined). Even # 1 wouldn't a surprise. :) :o Higher #300  happy to see it enter :P Some fab songs! Yes, it snuck in at the end there, great pop song!

Cher - Believe (N/A - 1998) Kicking off my top 50 of all time is Cher's incredible 1998 single Believe, which practically reshaped pop music single-handedly for a few years after. This is essentially the song that got me interested in the charts, I was forever intrigued to follow her progress.  #49 and I'm sure I'll get ribbed, is DJ Kent and The Arrows with Spin My World. A resounding BJSC failure, I'm forever unsure as to what went wrong, an absolutely beautiful piano house track with gorgeous vocals, a simple but incredibly effective melody and a stunning video, I'm still certain that this would be a huge UK #1 if it was to ever get a push here, especially in the summer. It fits the current chart trend 'sound' so well. At #48 is Tove Styrke's sublime Scandielectropop hit White Light Moment, which pretty much MADE late 2010 for me, along with Rihanna's career highlight What's My Name at #42. That bassline *.* The Drake verse *.* Everything about it! That said, she came incredibly close to matching it with 2011's dance anthem We Found Love with Calvin Harris, which ends up at #45 - the X Factor performance of said track raised it from a 10/10 to an 11/10 in my eyes, it looked like so much fun. Also in this section are a smattering of early 00s classics. Delerium and Sarah McLachlan's 2000 top 3 trance hit Silence at #43, Fragma and Maria Rubia's top 3 2001 top 3 smash Everytime You Need Me at #47, Shakira's wonderful English debut single and statement Whenever, Wherever and the house throwback 2004 UK No.1 Lola's Theme by Shapeshifters at #41!  The remaining unmentioned song is Delta Goodrem's Hunters And The Wolves at #44 aka the track on the album that was better than all of the singles but never got released as one, as every good Delta (:magic:) album has. The Tori Amos-esque stunner is the best song she's put her name to since 2007. Tove Styrke - White Light Moment 6KmG3SSqJsQ DJ Kent feat The Arrows - Spin My World HalIB5ReAwI

I just find it hypnotic to listen to almost, I love the beautifully minimalist production.

Maria Haukaas Storeng - Hold On Be Strong (2008 - #1) This section, a love letter to the 21st century, kicks off at #40 with Norway's classy and brilliant 2008 Eurovision entry Hold On Be Strong by Maria Haukaas Storeng singing about how love can catch you off guard like bad crimes. The title track of Delta's second album, the sonic predecessor to Hunters And The Wolves, the dramatic pop of Mistaken Identity is at #39 while unknown Brit Kim Lukas' top five Canadian and Danish superb dance-pop smash All I Really Want is at #38! I first heard the song while holidaying in Tenerife and ordered the single from eBay, my first ever purchase on that famous website! Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown's classic 2008 duet No Air makes it to #37, and is my favourite song to ever come out of an American Idol, beating even Kelly and Carrie's best efforts! The song that kicked off Delta's career and my love affair with her, the majestic global smash Born To Try is at #36, while a more recent hit from Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen is at #35, the hugely uplifting summer pop of Good Time! Sarah McLachlan is back again at #34 with her UK #72 triumph World On Fire, which has for my money one of the most effective and thought-provoking videos I've seen. It helps that the song is hugely gorgeous as well. Only three years old but just outside the top 30 at #33, it's the huge RedOne moment that is On The Floor by J.Lo and Pitbull. Now that's what I call a comeback *.*  Australian singer Missy Higgins may only be famous in her own country (save for a bit of US buzz for Where I Stood) but I loved her and her debut album The Sound Of White remains one of my all time favourites. The stunning ballad Ten Days is the highlight of that collection and is at #32 here. And over to BJSC for #31 and the tacky brilliance of Finnish popstrel Anna Abreu with the breathtakingly infectious Music Everywhere, one of my many great entries that succumbed to Numayania!  Anna Abreu - Music Everywhere VsMSCuymkpE Sarah McLachlan - World On Fire FDmPcSWE0WU Kim Lukas - All I Really Want aElEcg9Z_S0
March 31, 201411 yr Author Better late, than never. :)  Part 1 :  B*Witched - C'est La Vie : 1 week on the top in 1999*.  Andrea Bocelli & Sarah Brightman - Time to Say Goodbye : 1 week on the top in 1997*. She is great opera singer, who could predict her classic fame after disco tune "I Lost My Heart To a Starship Trooper" from 1978. Timoteij - Kom : Nice sample of girly pop, but "This Is My Life" was deserved MF winner. Madonna - Cherish : Classic. My # 2 from 1989 yearly chart (behind "Dear Jessie") Kim Lukas - Let It Be The Night : Good song. She and Rollergirl  were and still my 2 favourite dance pop singers. Deuce - I Need You : AMAZING !!!! Maybe it's my "song of the year" from 1995, but I must finish the retrospective for that year. This song should won Eurovision 1995 (not "Nocturne"), but British choose awful "Love City Groove". "I Need You" was fresh and catchy pop, especially in comparing with the most boring ESC songs in 90s decade. Maybe it was the safe bet for the win.  * - in my personal weekly charts. Thankts Alex! This Is My Life was lovely but only my third favourite of that year. Finally, someone else has heard of Kim Lukas :cheer: Rollergirl wasn't far outside of my chart, Dear Jessie was a #1 for me in 2000. I Need You is so much better than Love City Groove, I wish it had been picked.

Ed Sheeran - The A Team (2011 - #1) Into the all-important top 30 and the brilliant Ed Sheeran kicks it off with The A Team, an incredibly powerful and affecting song lyrically for a million seller. What a (mainstream) debut single it was! One of the comebacks of the noughties at #29, Swedish ex teen-popstar and general legend Robyn fired back into the charts emphatically with the absolutely glorious With Every Heartbeat, surely one of the most unexpected and cherised UK chart toppers of all time.  The best song that the UK have ever sent to the Eurovision, a global smash hit single, karaoke classic and one of the biggest selling and most well-loved hits of the 90s. And it finished 8th, whaaaaaat??? Gina G would have landslided to victory in the dance-friendly download era with the brilliant Ooh Aah...Just A Little Bit, my 28th favourite song of all time. Keeping it Australian, Vanessa Amorosi's UK debut/only single Absolutely Everybody was launched in September 2000 and despite no airplay it got heavy TV support and became a well-deserved top ten smash, and obviously a #1 for me, what a stunning party anthem! And now THE comeback kids of the 00s, it's of course Take That who took 10 years out, changed their sound and somehow returned bigger than they'd been before! The story was complete when Robbie returned to the band in 2010 and The Flood was created, a dramatic power-pop song that accompanied me through many a snowy drive through Wales, the X Factor favourite sadly only peaked at No.2 in the UK, but it went one better for me with seven weeks on top! Following Set You Free 2001 wouldn't be an easy task but Kelly Llorenna used it as an opportunity to launch a relatively successful solo career, and the reactivated 2001 single True Love Never Dies, essentially Flip & Fill's vocal take on Rank 1's Airwave sent them all to the top of my chart for 10 weeks, and into the UK top ten. CHOON alert at #25! And having already appeared five times, it's fair to say that I've always had a soft spot for Kylie. But it was 2010's All The Lovers, the lead single from Aphrodite, that finally provided me with the ultimate 'moment' that I'd been anticipating, the 13/10 if you will, and #24 here. The pure euphoria of All The Lovers rightly gave her a (probably final) UK top 3 smash hit and of course topped my chart for weeks on end.  1998 and the year that my love affair with The Corrs properly kicked in, along with most other people's after the famous Royal Albert Hall show moved their career up a gear. Their final single of the year, the bright and breezy pop fun of So Young, #23 here, took them to #6 in the UK and instantly became a favourite of mine. Who can resist the longing for the lust of youth and the gorgeous violin solo? And a year later and summer 1999 the UK was treated to a huge #1 hit courtesy of ATB with the bendy synth magic of 9PM (Till I Come), the first dance song I ever bought and the one that kick-started my love affair with the genre at the age of 12. Much love at #22 to a song that never gets old. And just missing out on a top 20 place at #21, it's my much ridiculed end of year #1 from last year, We Write The Story by Avicii, Benny & Bjorn from ABBA and a choir. I'd heard that they were all collaborating to produce a Eurovision anthem but I didn't realise quite how much I'd love it. Perhaps it was getting caught up in the atmosphere that did it but when I was watching the show live in Malmo and this glorious dance meets choral anthem got going, it felt like a real magic moment. To have the iconic Natalie Horler and Bonnie Tyler strutting along a bridge above your head while this stunning piece of music played was quite amazing. Six and a half minutes of absolute beauty for me, and utter indifference to everybody else, but such was the general story of all of my favourite songs of 2013! Avicii & B & B And Choir - We Write The Story D4t580Gyzcg Flip & Fill feat Kelly Llorenna - True Love Never Dies lnSdFU5pCiY Vanessa Amorosi - Absolutely Everybody LN6Fv5I9Lz0 Â

March 31, 201411 yr Author 'Hold On Be Strong' is utterly wonderful, I'm so pleased it went top 5 on the night. It was such a pleasant surprise, seeing as Eastern Europe COMPLETELY dominated that top ten otherwise. Maria bought the style and class and bagged herself a very deserved smash.

Shakira - Underneath Your Clothes (2002 - #1) Shakira kicks off the top 20 with the beautiful ballad Underneath Your Clothes, from Laundry Service. An instant highlight from the moment I got the album, the 1-2 punch of this and Whenever, Wherever told me that she was a force to be reckoned with.  At #19 is British soul and gospel unknown Caroldene with Time Is A Healer. I first discovered this song from a Peoplesound.com free CD and became rather enamoured with it, the gorgeous verses and uplifting chorus took it to the top of my chart for 8 weeks in 2001. Fun fact - the song appears extensively in the background of crap film The Martins! Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera's record shattering UK #2 smash pops up at No.18. I was never much of a Maroon 5 fan prior to this song but Christina has always been a favourite of mine. Moves Like Jagger is so incredibly infectious that it's hard not to be taken by it, almost certainly one of the catchiest songs of the past five years. Still never gets old for me, despite the overplay. #17 and it's the first of two songs by reformed boyband Take That in my top 20. The Mark Owen-led Shine was my favourite on Beautiful World from my first play through the album, it just stood out so much as something special. Obviously it's been whored around the supermarket adverts and god knows where else since then but it's still a high quality ELO-inspired modern pop classic, and one of their noughties holy trinity.  Lady Gaga's Bad Romance, which finishes at #16 here, seemed like something potentially special from the day the demo leaked. But as soon as the studio version of the lead single from The Fame Monster (the best deluxe addition to any album ever) emerged, it was clear that special was an understatement. With only a couple of months to spare until the end of the noughties, Gaga delivered an incredible contender for pop song of the decade, she's never bettered it but when you set the bar this high for yourself, how exactly DO you better it? Eurovision 2010 now at #15 and the long suffering Germany hadn't won in almost 30 years. But Stefan Raab's Unser Star Fur Oslo process worked wonders and found the cute and charming Lena Meyer-Landrut. The Kate Nash inspired Satellite was chosen and soared to a convincing victory despite many naysayers assuming that she had no chance. The painted toe-naits won out in the end and Lena grabbed herself a European smash! And again to Take That at #14. For the film Stardust Take That put together a simply phenomenal string-drenched power ballad called Rule The World, to complete their trio of new classics that they'd put out between 2006 and 2007 (lets ignore I'd Wait For Life). Sadly it was not to be a chart topper as they decided to put it out on the same week as Leona Lewis' Bleeding Love (one of those rare weeks when two future all-time classics arrive on the chart together). This #2 peak was mirrored on my chart where it stalled behind Delta Goodrem's epic Believe Again. 2007 truly was sensational for quality.  Over to Melodifestivalen for #13 and Alcazar! The colourful Swedish pop band had already been responsible for the brilliant entries Alcastar and Not A Sinner, Nor A Saint but Stay The Night lifted everything up ten notches. A perfectly constructed disco-pop song with incredible production, a stunning melody and great trade-off lyrics between the iconic girls and Andreas. And then the dance break lifts everything into a euphoric key change. Seeing this performed live MADE my life, there IS no happier band than Alcazar, and if they'd sent this to Eurovision, the already incredible 2009 would have been ten times better yet.  Back to Delta for #12. Having bought her album Innocent Eyes with my first ever pay cheque, I settled to listen to it and was absolutely blown away by the first track on the album to follow Born To Try. If anything, this was the song that turned her from someone who I loved to somebody who I would come to idolise. Like a young Tori Amos, she bashed out this confident and gutsy dramatic pop anthem and I was stunned. How it was only a flash in the pan top ten curiosity in the UK I really don't understand, but at least it sold the album to almost a million people here so for that I can't complain! And #11, and out of the top ten for the first time ever due to Loreen, it's Dutch dance group Alice Deejay and their frankly stunning second single, 1999's Back In My Life. Following up Better Off Alone was hardly going to be easy but they very very nearly managed to equal it somehow with a song that sounded nothing like it. A much more mournful and emotional song with harder trance synths than its predecessor, it went to the top of my chart for a then record 11 weeks and was in the UK top ten across the turn of the millennium. It may not be as well remembered as Better Off Alone, in the UK at least, but it deserves to be.  Alice Deejay - Back In My Life ldgwAAwj9zs Alcazar - Stay The Night CLWeBohSlvA Caroldene - Time Is A Healer aXa9RFBAurs
April 2, 201411 yr Author 10. Sara Bareilles - Love Song (2007 - #1) qi7Yh16dA0w Kicking off my top ten of all time is Californian singer Sara Bareilles with Love Song. I first downloaded this song in Autumn 2007 in a demo form, from MySpace I believe. It was yet to take off anywhere at that point but I instantly loved it. The album version turned this like into love and it quickly topped my chart, becoming my Xmas #2 for 2007 behind Delta Goodrem's Believe Again. In early 2008 I sent it to BJSC, where it became my first winner and a few months later in May watched with pride as it climbed the UK charts into the top five. For me this song is the perfect example of piano pop - jaunty, catchy, an interesting subject matter, a talented singer and a brilliant little video. She's released two of my favourite albums of the past decade too and deserves to be a lot more than a one hit wonder, which will hopefully change in the coming weeks. 9. Delta Goodrem - Extraordinary Day (2004 - #1) Q7uZvWg7-_M Naturally the only artist with more than one top ten appearance, Delta's second album Mistaken Identity was surprisingly just as stunning as her debut and the sophomore slump only stretched as far as album sales because the quality of the music itself certainly didn't slide. Two songs stood right out for me on my first play after college one November afternoon. The title track and Extraordinary Day. Over the weeks it was the latter that would become my favourite, topping my chart for nine weeks and the second of her trio of Xmas #1's on my chart. A haunting tale about the day in July 2003 when Delta discovered that she had cancer, the lyrics are incredibly poignant and the melody and Delta's harrowing but beautiful vocal delivery is simply stunning. I officially CANNOT at people that call this an album filler. 8. The Corrs - Runaway (1995/1999 - N/A) y2zz0L8gAg4 The highest entry from the act with the most appearances in this top 300, Irish siblings The Corrs, is Runaway. From their debut album Forgiven Not Forgotten and originally released a number of times in the mid 90s, the single failed to catch fire despite being one of the greatest love songs ever written. It took their newfound success, a Talk On Corners album repackage (actually the first 'deluxe edition' I can actually recall seeing!) and a Tin Tin Out remix to push it into the hearts of the British public. Released on the same week as Britney's Baby One More Time, it obviously never stood a chance but it did manage to deservedly peak at No.2. I love both versions equally, the polish and radio-friendly aspects of the Tin Tin Out remix are brilliant but the rawness of the original still sound amazing. The violin key change towards the end is still one of my favourite parts of any song, ever. 7. Agnes - Release Me (2008 - #1) 0G7eDpMGe1k I'd vaguely followed Swedish Idol 2005 winner Agnes' career for a few years but she'd never really had a single that I LOVED. Even autumn 2008's On & On wasn't quite great enough for me. Roll on December and the second single from the iconic Dance Love Pop album surfaced and went straight to the top of my personal chart, becoming my 2008 Xmas No.1. A perfect fusion of Agnes' trademark vocals, an unforgettable melody and the greatest disco-strings I've heard since ABBA, I assumed that this would be the end of the story. Until somehow the greater good intervened and it got a UK push, from which it actually benefitted. It shot into the top three on release in May 2009 (two months after I saw her flop at Melodifestivalen!) and was basically the most unexpected hit I'd ever seen. I just don't expect to see amazing Scandipop songs do well in this country. Sadly it was her only major international hit but she's still huge in Sweden, and as good/stunning as ever. One thing I won't forgive however is AATW chopping out the fantastic instrumental breakdown in the UK radio edit, criminal! 6. DJ Sammy & Yanou feat Do - Heaven (2002 - #1) HlGEII0ejyA And just missing out on the top five is what I feel is the best cover version of all time. Bryan Adams' original version of Heaven is very nice MOR radio rock but Spanish producer DJ Sammy, his German friend Yanou (one third of Cascada) and Dutch singer Do transformed it into a trance-pop club anthem. I first became aware of the song in summer 2002 and got hold of the single on import for about £8. It stayed at the top of my personal chart for 12 weeks in a row during which time I sung its praises to anybody that would listen, even persuading somebody from my high school music class to sing it in a school show! Roll on October and the UK release arrived. Up against the comeback single from Craig David and Madonna's Bond theme nobody really thought that it stood a chance of #1 but I kept the faith and to the top it went, much to my eternal delight! Yanou's Candlelight Mix is also absolutely stunning and well worthy of a mention, still played a lot by Heart I believe!
April 3, 201411 yr Author 5. DJ Jurgen Presents Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone (1999 - #1) lHjNmyzrVvM Better Off Alone by Dutch DJ Jurgen and girl group Alice Deejay burst into the UK top five in July 1999 and achieved the rare feat of climbing the charts to its peak. The first time I heard this anthem was on Radio 1 during a drive up to Great Yarmouth on a family holiday. I quickly bought Now 43, the only way at the time of getting hold of the radio edit, seeing as the CD single bizarrely only featured club mixes. I became quickly obsessed with the gorgeous trance melody and Judith Pronk's short but effective vocal sections. If ATB's 9PM (Till I Come) was my introduction to dance music, this was the song that made me realise that it would quickly become my favourite genre. 4. Shakira feat Wyclef Jean - Hips Don't Lie (2006 - #1) DUT5rEU6pqM Already one of my favourite artists, the stunning Shakira returned in early 2006 with a reworking of Wyclef's earlier song Dance Like This. The pair made the song into an absolutely irresistible latin-flavoured collaboration which quickly won me over. It hung around my top 20 without leaving between March-June 2006 but it was then that the sun came out and it all just sounded more anthemic. After 5 weeks in a row locked at No.2 in my personal chart behind Lily Allen's Smile, Shakira and Wyclef finally ascended one place to spend a further 10 weeks on top! It didn't do too badly in the UK either becoming a mammoth #1 single, even in the low sales climate that was 2006. Truly the Colombian beauty's finest moment for me and without doubt her signature song. 3. Delta Goodrem - Believe Again (2007 - #1) Esq5mixg1wg And onto the greatest ballad ever written at No.3. When I first heard the opening strings and drama of Believe Again in October 2007 it was pretty clear that the song was going to be something special. Sounding like a lost epic movie soundtrack song, the stunning track combined beautiful production, a gorgeous melody and almost new-age influences with Delta's flawless vocals. And then THAT middle eight crashes in - 'I believe the impossible is possible to overcome' chant - before it all fades back out to a truly awesome soundscape. Six minutes of beauty, the song spent 12 consecutive weeks on top of my chart in late 2007 and kept heavyweights such as Bleeding Love, Rule The World, Call The Shots and About You Now to No.2 peaks! 2. Loreen - Euphoria (2012 - #1) bcnWysA9gxo Never did I think that a song would come anywhere close to Set You Free in terms of quality but almost two decades later, it very nearly happened (although clearly not QUITE). I'd always liked Loreen's output but found her slightly overhyped, with My Heart Is Refusing Me and Sober becoming top 15/top 10 hits for me but fading quickly. However, I was intrigued to hear just why she'd decided to return instantly to Melodifestivalen in 2012 and it all became quite clear the moment I heard Euphoria. Instantly BLOWN away, in a way that no song had blown me away for a good five years the incredible dance anthem crashed into my chart at No.1 and spent an incredible total of 17 weeks there!  Many of us on Buzzjack joked while it was still participating in MF that the song would landslide Eurovision and go top 3 in the UK, but I'm sure none of us expected it to actually happen. But yes, the sensational anthem rose all the way to #1 on iTunes the day after the contest but with nothing to prop it up sadly ended up at #3 (yet 3 months in the top 75 is pretty good for a Eurovision song with little to no airplay here!). Another *.* moment was it being such a big hit that it even ended up on the Now 82 compilation, the first Eurovision appearance on a Now album in 13 years! A truly iconic and memorable song that combined Loreen's unique vocal and performance style with a fascinating string heavy soundscape from Peter Bostrom and Thomas G:Son, it's without doubt the greatest Eurovision entry of all time. 1. N-Trance - Set You Free (1995/2001 - #1) 18W9WYw9HaA fPKi_iF0LI4 It says it all when ever Euphoria can't replace this song in my affections. Set You Free was quite easily my favourite song of the 90s, a perfect dance anthem with a powerhouse vocal from northern diva Kelly Llorenna. The rave breakdowns, the pure JOY of everything about the song, Kelly's dreads, it absolutely pains me that it wasn't a UK #1. It's surely not possible to make the perfect song better? Rob Searle disagreed and had a good go in 2001. He transformed it into a soaring, beautiful trance anthem. This song, even moreso than #2 DEFINES the feeling of Euphoria. An absolutely glorious new melody, the added minor chords completely transformed the song. The joy was still in place but with it a truckload of emotion and a sense of longing for youth and basically the sound of perfection. The remix spent 26 consecutive weeks inside my top five - still a record - and my favourite song of the 90s was also my favourite song of the 00s. The UK lapped it up all over again, sending it back into the top five, one of very few songs to go top five twice! Truly THE greatest song ever written.
