I'm running a new feature on PinkHistory and thought I would try it here too.

 

Pink History Spotlight!

In the spotlight this week is the Try This arena tour. In 2004 Pink took the Try This album on the road in arenas around Europe and Australia. For the next week we will focus on the Try This tour, share experiences, videos and photos!

The First Set

 

The Try This Tour was split into four different acts. The first act supported Pink’s first album Can’t Take Me Home.

 

Pink wore a massive pink mohawk to represent her pink-haired days in the Can’t Take Me Home era, and as the dancers pulled back the stage curtain, Pink entered the stage lowered down inside a giant bird cage, while singing Can’t Take Me Home.

 

 

The next song to be performed was There You Go and there was a big ‘WANTED’ poster with Pink’s face in the background of the stage. After the song, there was a western style performance from Pink & the dancers.

 

 

During the Split Personality performance, Pink and the dancers performed with mirrors.

 

 

“Manchester!!!!! Wooo! Holy shit! Hi! Welcome! Thank you guys so much for coming. Tonight is kind of an evolution of music from beginning to now. And you’re all famous! Yeah you. So you guys ready to have a good f***ing time tonight?”

 

 

The next performance was Most Girls, which was followed by Lady Marmalade, where PInk and her dancers performed with blow up dolls representing each artist from the Lady Marmalade single (Pink, Christina Aguilera, Mya and Lil Kim). During the performance Pink stops the band and dancers, “Stop! Stop! time out, time out, sorry. They hate being interrupted, but, I want you guys to see this face” She then shows the crowd the Christina doll and sings a few lines from Aguilera’s song, Beautiful (which is censored on the DVD).

For the second act, Pink ditched the pink Mohawk for a long blonde wig to represent the days of Missundaztood.

She entered the stage singing a cover of Twisted Sister’s I Wanna Rock, and then performing the second single from Missundaztood, Don’t Let Me Get Me.





The third song of the set was 18 Wheeler, followed by Family Portrait, which showed pictures from Pink’s childhood in the background.





Pink performed the album’s third single, Just Like a Pill which was clearly a crowd favourite, and then performed the last song of the set, Respect.



An audience member was picked from the crowd earlier in the show to be up on stage with Pink and the dancers during Respect.

From the DVD:
Pink“Ok, I havent danced in a while. I believe an audience member was picked earlier, yes? Will y’all go get him for me pretty please? Seen as this song is called respect right, once a night we get to smack the shit out of somebody! All in the name of repect! Hi. Whats your name?”
Mark: “Mark”
P: “Mark, do we like Mark?
M: *blows kiss*
P: “Aw sit his ass down and strap him up. This is one of my favourite parts”
*takes photo*
P: “You can show your mom. Are you nervous? No hes definitely not nervous, I can tell that this is his show right now. Go ahead baby. Aw.”

For the third set Pink entered the stage still wearing the long blonde wig (now tied back) and wearing a long burnt style American flag dress. The lights went down and Pink stood at the mic stand and performed a medley of My Vietnam, Misery (which she sang Steven Tyler’s part) and Eventually.







The stage curtain was then closed and Pink talked to the crowd as the acoustic set was being set up. Pink and Rafael sat on chairs in front of the curtain and Pink talks about a woman who inspires her, besides Linda Perry. “When everyone else tells you you’re not gonna be shit, somebody else tells you you can do whatever the hell you want. And Janis Joplin was that woman for me.” She then introduces Rafael and begins to sing a medley of Janis Joplin songs – Summertime, Me & Bobby McGee and Piece of my Heart.

In the forth set of the Try This tour Pink ditches the wigs and wears a rock chic style outfit to support her current album Try This. The stage curtain re-opens and Pink comes on to the stage performing Feel Good Time and God is a DJ.





Pink then performs Oh My God, there is pole dancing and the dancers strip, Pink describes it as “another day at the office”. She then performs Trouble acoustic with no band playing before asking “everyone ok after that one?”





The next song up on the forth set is Last To Know, which was Pink’s new single around the time she was in Europe. She introduces her drummer, Mylious, who does a drum solo.



“Who thought that was a good drum solo? Hes the second best. Second best drummer in the world. Whos the first? ME! I’ve been trying to get mylious to admit this the whole tour, we’ve done about 18/19 shows so far and he still doesn’t believe it. We all have to convince him that I am, ok?”

Pink then performs Try Too Hard before introducing her band.



“I wanna introduce you guys to my band, the incredibly talented people up here, on the stage, they’re an inspiration to me every night. You’ve met Heffa. Please give it up for Adriana on keys and singing her ass off. That drummer… mylious…yeah, moving on. I love mylious hes so much better than me, I just have this fantasy. Jason back there on keys and singing his ass off. Miss Leah on base, hott mama she is. And the always beautiful ray-ray singing her but-tocks off. I’m Pink”

Pink plays the tambourine while performing Unwind, and that is the forth set completed, Pink thanks the crowd and goes off stage.

This is all making me wanna watch the tour :wub:

 

i've been watching it non stop for the last two weeks lol, possibly my favourite tour by our Pink :wub:

It's quite different from all her other arena tours. It's much rougher, raw and in your face. LOVE it!

i've really enjoyed doing this :D its been good, for me anyway :lol: to look back at this tour and remember how awesome it was :D

#PinkHistorySpotlight – Try This Arena Tour – Encore

The band start playing Guns ‘n’ Roses song Welcome to the Jungle, while Pink walks through the crowd from the back of the arena, she goes along the front row before getting back on stage and finishing off the song.

“You know where you are? You’re in the jungle baby, and you’re gonna die”



For the final song of the song, Pink performs Get The Party Started. She and the dancers use the silks.



“Thank you guys so much for all your support. I’ll see you next time. Thank you!”

On The Road With Pink

23 countries – millions of fans – 62 cities – 5months – 45 crew members – 72 shows

Pinks not afraid of her songs being taken off the radio right now. Although her next single is still being chosen shes plunging for her next release a live DVD.

“Life on the road can be tedious, boring, it can be exciting, new, it can suck really bad or it can be a hell of a lot of fun”

“Fans in America are always very very cool, its fun though when you go over to Europe because theres so many different languages, and the language barrier is so intense sometimes they have to use their emotions to make you understand how they feel and it can be pretty intense, it can be scary sometimes but altogether its pretty awesome. Total music lovers, some of the places we went, like Serbia, I remember somebody telling me that it was the first concert that a lot of these people had ever been to in their life because a lot of artists book shows over there and then cancel. We showed up and we played a good show and everyone was freaking out and we’re excited and it always makes the show better when the fans are that into it.”

“And what do YOU want”

“This time I have my own bus I’ve moved up in the world”

“We’re all definitely a big family, a big dysfunctional family on the road”

Adriana: “She is who she is on stage and off stage, its cool, I respect that”

Jason: “Shes a really down to earth person and I like that about her”

Rafael: “I like that she cares for everybody else you know, not only for herself”

“I’ve always said to everybody that I do what I do and you do what you do and we all have a great time. Be careful, be smart, have fun.”

“I like to keep it fun, I want everybody to have a good time, I don’t want it to ever feel like a job because when it starts feeling like a job for them, it’ll be a job for me”

“I’m not quite sure what I look like, cuz when I see myself in pictures, I don’t look like me, but I don’t really know what I look like. Sometimes I’m like ‘oh my god’, and other times I’m like ‘couple more sit ups tomorrow Pink’. its really weird, but my thoughts automatically go to my stomach. Go like that and suck it in, try to see the shadow. I’m pretty goofy. Sometimes when my hair is in my face I’m like ‘yeah I like that’.”

“Its so much easier to be hard on yourself, it takes work to be good to yourself, so I’m trying to put the work in. when I say ‘I wish I didn’t have those dots all over my face’, I’ll say ‘hmm but they’re really unique and special’. ‘I wish I didn’t feel fat today’ – ‘hmm but you’re really strong’. ‘I wish my legs weren’t so muscular’ – ‘hmm but when you’re older they’re gonna carry you around’. things like that. Be thankful”

“One night after a concert in germany I ran backstage and I had a piercer ready to go in my dressing room and he pierced my other nipple and my mom sitting there, it was pretty wild. The first one I wasn’t really myself, so it was interesting to have my mom sitting in the dressing room watching me get my nipple pierced. I tried to get her to do it. Right after the concert because your adrenaline is so up, it was then or never.”

Workout: one hour cardio – one hour yoga – 6 pack of beer – finish with a 2 hour show

“I like to be the best at everything, and I very rarely am but I do my personal best”

“Most of the time I feel absolutely blessed and lucky to be travelling the world and have this opportunity to play music and be heard and make points and piss people off and have fun and make people laugh. And have these bonds with all these people, that I work with and that I sing for and travel with and all the people you meet, its awesome. And then theres other times where you’re kinda like ‘whos idea was this? Why am I here? This sucks’. so yeah theres a balance to everything, no its never poor me poor me but I’m troubled, psychoed like everybody else.”

“Me and my moms relationship has improved she comes out to support me and its really nice you know, you think you want to be as far away from your family as possible, when you’re on the other side of the world, its really comforting to have your mommy around. The whole excitement of what I do has not rubbed off on my mom and her enthusiasm and that shes finally proud of me, it rubs off on me and keeps me going sometimes. Shes always been used to my wildness and that’s pretty much why she kicked me outta the house but she never gets tired of it, she keeps on taking it. I believe that human beings have emotions and needs and people get lonely. The road can be really lonely and I don’t expect people to be happy all the time or put on a front for me because I don’t need that, I need authenticity around me and all these people are just that you know, we’re family”
