Good Evening all,

With the success in waiting of songs such as Nobody To Love and Hideaway what are your suggestions for the most obvious UK #1 singles or songs that were in contention for number 1? these could be songs that did very well on pre order or songs that were "everywhere you go" or even songs that symbolise a certain period of your lives.

Discuss........

(and make this the most talked about topic on Buzzjack )

Avicii - Wake Me Up

Clean Bandit - Rather Be

Duke Dumont - I Got You

Route 94 - My Love

Calvin Harris - Under Control

I was gonna do all the ones from 2000 onwards when I started following the chart but then realised there'd be too many.

I'll do from 2010 onwards, these are the ones I saw as obvious #1s prior to release.

Iyaz - Replay

Diana Vickers - Once

B.O.B/Bruno Mars - Nothin' On You

Katy Perry - California Gurls

Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are

Cheryl Cole - Promise This

Matt Cardle - When We Collide

Bruno Mars - Grenade

Ke$ha - We R Who We R

Example - Changed The Way You Kiss Me

The Wanted - Glad You Came

Cher Lloyd - Swagger Jagger

Olly Murs - Heart Skips A Beat

Pixie Lott - All About Tonight

One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful

Rihanna - We Found Love

Tulisa - Young

Cheryl Cole - Call My Name

Rita Ora - How We Do (Party)

Little Mix - Wings

Olly Murs - Troublemaker

James Arthur - Impossible

I'm not doing 2013 onwards because with pre-orders it became a lot easier to predict 'obvious' #1s.

An interesting topic could be singles you were certain would be #1 but in the end didn't. For me One Direction's 'Live While We're Young' and Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' fall into that category (although I know the latter sold more than enough over a 7 day period to do so).

This applies to a large chunk of the ones you posted already. :P

these also seemed like obvious #1s to me as well:

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft. Wanz - Thrift Shop

Robin Thicke ft. T.I. & Pharrell - Blurred Lines

Katy Perry - Roar

Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball

Pitbull ft. Ke$ha - Timber

will.i.am ft. Eva Simons - This is Love

DJ Fresh ft. Sian Evans - Louder

Jason Derulo - Don't Wanna Go Home

JLS ft. Dev - She Makes Me Wanna

Taio Cruz - Dynamite

(+ pretty much everything silver rocket mentioned)

I mean since they started appearing in the main chart and we all monitored them more closely.

I don't think 'Troublemaker' was an obvious #1. Most people on here were predicting 'Something New' to get there instead. :P
I have to rely on Buzzjack/iTunes preorder levels these days, as I cannot judge the merits of new singles myself - or rather, I cannot tell which will appeal to the main singles-buying demographic (or indeed *why*).

I think we all know this tbh... ;) :P

I've no idea what makes a number one single these days. There are no obvious ones for me.

Girls Aloud - The Promise

The Saturdays - What About Us

Lady GaGa - Bad Romance

Lady GaGa f/Beyonce - Telephone

Maroon 5 - Payphone

Here are some oldies from me! I was sure these would all be No.1, and they were:

Kylie Minogue - Can't Get You Outta My Head

Liberty X - Just A Little

Usher - Yeah

Eternal - I Wanna Be The Only One

Sugababes - Hole In The Head

Sugababes - Push The Button

Holly Valance - Kiss Kiss

At the time I was praying they'd do it, but knew deep down they wouldn't.

Shakira - Whenever, Wherever (wait...oops stepped out the same week as the biggest seller of the century)
