Which do you think was the best slasher movie, was it the original "Psycho" or maybe Halloween, and don't forget Childs play ,Saw ,Friday the 13th etc etc.

Well which one was your favourite?

I still like psycho and the original Halloween, even if they are a little dated, but both were well made.

The first "slasher" film (but of course it wasnt actually called this) was "Peeping Tom", a film about a deranged cameraman who speared his female victims with a bizarre camera tripod spear set-up, this was made in 1959, which puts it before "Psycho". But of course it was banned in the UK for ages, so we didn't get to actually see it until after "Psycho"....

Some of my faves -

Peeping Tom

Psycho

Blood and Black Lace

Deep Red

Halloween

Bird With The Crystal Plumage

What Have You Done To Solange

Don't Torture a Duckling

The Cat's Victims

Check out some of the Italian slasher films of the 70s, they are just fukkin' NUTS most of them....

halloween is my fav, but you have forgotten scream and nightmare on elm street, or does they not count as slashers, i suppose they would do, a seriel killer killing people, that's the idea isn't it

I had a look on wikipedia. It mentioned Scream being a slasher movie, but I haven't really seen that so I don't know.

Nightmare on Elm Street is.

Also I Know What You Did Last Summer would be too.

it's really good, it's not scary but it has a fantastic plot and actors, courtney cox, david arquette and neve campbelll are in it

Saw is best

Saw is not a "slasher" film as such, as the 'killer' does not actually do away his victims himself. "Saw" is a film more in the vein of "Seven" or "Silence of the Lambs", it's more of a "serial killer" film, and yes, there IS a subtle difference between the two...

"Scream" is a 'post-modern' "Slasher" film, because it is self-reflexive in a way that other films of that genre are not. To be honest, I believe that this 'knowingness' and the 'nudge, wink' factor actually takes away quite a lot from the actual scares. If you're too busy laughing at all the references and being impressed with the 'clever, clever' aspects, then you're not really being scared, which is surely the point of a 'horror' film after all....

I think I've seen number 2. The murderer wears the ghost mask and black cloak thing yeah?

You know in Scary Movie, doesn't the killer have the same mask?

I get confused with both these films.

Yeah...

And "Scary Movie" acually found itself in the rather bizarre position of being a Parody of something that was already something of a Parody itself.....

I don't really like the Scary Movie films from what I've seen, they're not that good. I'd rather watch a proper horror film.

Well, 3 and especially 4 are actually pretty damn funny, mainly because they're written and directed by the team behind the quite fantastic "Airplane" and "Naked Gun" films, they're done in a similar vein of humour, they emphasise jokes and visual gags rather than trying to be scary

"Severance", the new Brit horror flick is as good a Horror with humour as you're ever going to see, very good stuff, and the humour comes naturally through good characterisation rather than being forced as happens in most of these "Po-Mo" horror flicks such as "Scream"....

Yeah I'm going to try and see Severance. I'm a fan of Shaun Of The Dead and it seems to be compared to that.

And everyone else, stop putting Saw as a slasher. It's not.

Err, I wouldn't really go to see "Severance" expecting it to be another "Shaun of the Dead", it's quite a different film to SotD, it's just film critics talking bollox really, about the only thing that these two films have in common are the fact that they're both British, are scary and have a thread of black humour in them as well.... You'd might as well compare "Scream" to "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" because they're American, scary and have a thread of black humour running through them.....

And yes, I agree, this whole insistence people seem to have for Saw being a slasher film is getting a tad annoying, I've already told them it's a "Serial Killer" film....

Lol yeah ok. I saw the trailer, doesn't look a bad film.

I don't think some people know the difference between horror and slasher.

That much is rather obvious.... and the amount of people who seem to really rate rubbish like the "House of Wax" remake is unbelievably depressing....
