Ending up at #35 is the movie about an orphaned cat, Oliver & Company. The movie was based on the Chalres Dickens book Oliver Twist. In this movie, Oliver is no human, but a cat and the so called gang are dogs.

 

Oliver is an orphaned cat. His owner tried to sell him and some other cats on the streets of New York. Oliver is the only cat that is not sold and his owners leave him on the street. He then meets a stray dog, who lives on a boat with some other stray dogs. Oliver joins their gang and finds out their main goal is getting money for their “owner” Fagin, who is in debt.

 

Oliver however is taken by a little girl called Jenny, while on a hunt with his gang. His friends think he’s been kidnapped by the girl and try to rescue him. Fagin however finds out he’s with a very rich family and decides to ask for money, if they want Oliver back. But Fagin isn’t as bad as he thought and he returns Oliver to the little girl.

 

But yet another twist is coming up. Sykes, the man Fagin owns money to, kidnaps Jenny, which means the dogs have to go and save Jenny. During this “save” Sykes dies and Jenny is free and returned to her mother and father.

 

I personally adored this movie when I was younger, but I kinda forgot about it, until recently.

At #34 it’s the sequel to the much praised and yet to come Lion King. This time it’s not Simba in the headlines but his daughter Kiara. One of my favourite movies ever and a great addition to the The Lion King series. Sequels of Disney movies are hardly ever as good as this and it is absolutely heartbreaking to see so many of you not rating it or rating it so low.

 

In the movie Kiara, daughter of Nala and Simba, is constantly being watched by her babysitters Timon and Pumbaa. Kiara is a little bit of a brat and refuses to listen to what her father says. She goes into the Outlands and meets another lion cub, son of Zira and adopted son of Scar, Kovu. Both Simba and Zira hate each other and Simba forbids Kiara to ever talk to Kovu again.

 

Years later, she grew up nicely, Kiara is ready for her first hunt, without her usual babysitters Timon and Pumbaa. Zira has set up a plan to trap Kiara in fire and have Kovu save her, so he can claim a place in Simba’s pride and ultimately kill Simba. This plan seems to work out, until it is safe to say Kovu isn’t going to kill Simba, wants a life with Kiara and abandons his family.

 

Zira is mad and she brings the Outlanders to the Pridelands to attack Simba. Simba however believes it was Kovu’s plan to kill him and exiles him from the Pridelands. He rans away and Kiara follows him in tears. They re-unite and notice the Pridelanders and the Outlanders fight. Kovu wants to run away but Kiara wants to solve this once and for all. She uses the phrase her father taught her, We Are One. Simba realizes that all lions are the same and stops the fight. Zira however is not amused and wants to kill Simba, only for Kiara to step in and fight her by herself. Zira dies when she falls off a cliff into the river and the rest of the lion unite at Pride Rock and live happily ever after.

At the fabulous placing of #33 is one of the more recent Disney movies, Bolt. It never really struck me as that great, but it’s a decent movie regardless. Nothing special when it comes to Disney tho so it deserves its place in the lower region of the rate.

 

The film's plot centers on a small white dog named Bolt who, having spent his entire life on the set of a television series, thinks that he has super powers. When he believes that his human, Penny, has been kidnapped, he sets out on a cross-country journey to "rescue" her.

At #32 is a Disney-translation of a classic tale, The Princess and The Frog.

the film tells the story of a hardworking waitress named Tiana who dreams of owning her own restaurant. After kissing a prince who has been turned into a frog by an evil witch doctor, Tiana becomes a frog herself, and must find a way to turn back into a human before it is too late. Tiana is the only African-American princess to ever star in a Disney movie.

 

I haven’t seen this movie so I can’t comment on it. It is on my “yet-to-see-list”.

Just missing out on a top 30 placing is The Emperor’s New Groove. The movie follows the emperor of the Incan Empire, Kuzco. He’s a very selfish young man and everybody has to go if they don’t agree with him. His actions lead to someone trying to poison him and turning him into a llama. While being a llama he crossed paths with various dangerous situation that make him change his attitude. He finds the lab of Yzma, so he can change him back to human. He admits that his attitude and behavior was wrong.

 

I’ve never really loved the movie but I don’t hate it either. It’s decent and has some great parts in it, but it’s nowhere near Disney’s top 20 so I’m glad it missed out on a top 30 placing. It did however get a sequel and a series based upon the movie.

Opening our top 30 is a movie about The Rescua Aid Society name The Rescuers. It follows an international mouse organization headquartered in New York and shadowing the The United Nations, dedicated to helping abduction victims around the world at large. Two of these mice, jittery janitor Bernard and his co-agent, the elegant Miss Bianca, set out to rescue Penny, an orphan girl being held prisoner in the Devil's Bayou by treasure huntress Madame Medusa.

 

The movie is based on a series of books by Margery Sharp and was followed by the sequel, The Rescuers Down Under.

Joining us at #29 is the Rapunzel based movie Tangled. The film tells the story of a lost princess with long magical hair who yearns to leave her secluded tower. Against her mother's wishes, she accepts the aid of a handsome intruder to take her out into the world which she has never seen.

 

I was never massive on this movie, but that’s mainly because I never liked the story to begin with.

At #28 with a score of 139.8 is Disney’s biggest flop to date, Fantasia. The film consists of eight animated segments set to pieces of classical music conducted by Leopold Stokowski. It was unable to gross it’s costs as World War II had cut of the profitable European market. However, when you take inflation into account, it is the 22nd most grossing movie in the US.

I really don’t know this movie and it doesn’t seem appealing to me at all. Wreck-It Ralph ends up at #27.

The film tells the story of the eponymous computer game villain who rebels against his role and dreams of becoming a hero. He travels between games in the arcade, and ultimately must eliminate a dire threat that could affect the entire arcade, and one that Ralph himself inadvertently started.

Ending just outside the top 25 at #26 is The Sword In The Stone, based on the novel with the same name.

 

The movie is about Arthur, a 12-year old orphan, who is in training to be a squire. Arthur meets Merlin, who becomes his tutor and helps him become King of England. Merlin teaches Arthur about the word by transforming him into a fish, a squirrel and a sparrow.

 

They then travel to London where Arthur pulls the sword out of the stone and he is crowned king.

Smashing its way to #25 is ape-man Tarzan, who lost his parents when he was a child, but was saved by a gorilla troop, who consider him one of their own. All is well, until a team of human explorers arrives, consisting of Professor Porter, Jane and Clayton.

 

A little while later Jane is attacked by a bunch of baboons and Tarzan saves her. This is the start of a romantic love story as both begin to fall in love. They convince Tarzan to lead him to the gorilla pack. Porter and Jane are excited to mingle with the gorillas but it is Clayton who is the bad guy. He captures the gorillas with some help from pirates.

 

Porter and Jane eventually stay with Tarzan in the jungle, leaving their happy life in England behind.

At #24 we’ve got the Greek mythology based movie Hercules. Based on Greek stories about Heracles (Hercules in Latin), son of Zeus and Hera.

 

Zeus’ brother Hades wants to overthrow Zeus as king of the Gods and sends his minions to dispose of Hercules. The two kidnap him, send him to earth and make him mortal, while failing to take his superhuman strength.

 

Hercules finds out that he has to become a hero in order to regain his godhood. He goes to Phil, who trains him to become one. When arriving in Thebes, Hercules saves 2 boys from a gorge, while also fighting a hydra. Hercules turns to Meg, who is falling in love with him. Hades learns of this and on the eve of his takeover, offers a deal that Hercules give up his powers for twenty-four hours on the condition that Meg will be unharmed. Hercules accepts, losing his strength, and is heartbroken when Hades reveals that Meg is working for him.

 

Hades unleashes the Titans to attack Zeus and the other gods. While Hercules wants to help them, Meg is crushed under a pillar and when he returns she has already died. Hercules breaks into The Underworld, willing to sacrifice his own life to save Meg. This makes him into a real hero and Hades is tricked into accepting the deal, ending up with both alive and well.

Ending the rate at #22 is one of Disney’s darker movies The Hunchback Of The Notre Dame. The movie follows Quasimodo, a deformed young man, who dreams about a life outside the Bell Tower. But scared of what people would say about him and his looks, he decides to stay inside the tower.

 

Some day he decides to leave the tower, but is ridiculed on the streets and is saved by gypsy woman Esmeralda. Esmeralda however is accused of being a witch and is locked up in Notre Dame. Quasimodo helps her escape, which leads to a city-wide manhunt. She is arrested and is doomed to be burned at the stake. Quasimodo however saves her and kills the guy that arrested her and all the other gypsies. He is then hailed as the hero of Paris.

Mulan is a girl, the only child of her honored family. When the Huns invade China, one man from every family is called to arms. Mulan's father, who has an old wound and cannot walk properly, decides to fight for his country and the honor of his family though it is clear that he will not survive an enemy encounter. Mulan, who just got rejected by the matchmaker because she had set her on fire, decides to prove that she is worth something and steals away to fit her father's place in the Chinese army. She prays to her family's ancestors for protection and luck before leaving as a man in her father's armor with her family's horse. The ancestors awake and decide to send Mushu, a little dishonored dragon to aid Mulan in her quest. Weeks later, Mulan and the other troopers have survived the training camp and are on the way north to stop the huns. After being spotted and pursued by the enemies, an impass situation in the mountains forces Mulan to come up with an idea. But then, her real gender will no longer be a secret. She decides to risk everything in order to save China.
