My usual moan: it's an hour too long, all that incessant teen on-off love ya-can't deal-with-ya-being-a-superhero turns it all a bit dreary at times, though fans of Twilight might like it. Edit severely and it would be a decent romp. The problem Ive always had with Spiderman is he's so whiney, "oh poor me being a superhero and having no personal life what with being mega-powered and having to do the right thing" and the ongoing media-onslaught as if he's a vigilante when he's clearly a hero is annoying, not at all logical (if logic is appropriate for super-heroes). Take a hanky, though. 5/10

Avengers, now that's how to do superheroes!

I wouldn't say it was too long, and CERTAINLY not an hour too long. It clocked in at just over 2 hours which is pretty standard for most films these days, especially of this genre. It was oddly paced though which probably made it feel longer than it was. The first hour wasn't a problem for me at all, it felt like a fairly natural build up, it just took too long and then they spent the next half hour introducing all the threats and then 20 minutes or so dispatching them all.

The problem was it was overstuffed really, too many villains which is obviously because they are building up to a Sinister Six spin-off next year, but it was very much to the detriment of this film in terms of being cohesive and having a natural beginning, middle and end. That's not to say I didn't really enjoy it, it got the wise cracking Spidey humour down so much better than the first one where it was just utterly cringey. I think that is largely down to Andrew being much more comfortable in the role this time round too (but still looking bloody gorgeous). Dane Dehaan was just excellent as Harry, nicely menacing yet utterly charming, much better fit for who he became than James Franco's portrayal of him. I think most people already knew this BIG TWIST in the clocktower, but I liked the way they handled it, almost making it seem like it wouldn't happen the way we expected, but then it did anyway.

Also, loved the music too. Very dark and dramatic and especially the electronic stuff used for Electro was really well suited to what he was doing. Even the weird screamy rock shit when he was having his breakdown wasn't awful.

Avenger's might be the gold standard of Superhero films (and I agree that it is!) but in the last year we've had Captain America 2 and Thor 2 which both come very, very close.

yes it just seemed an hour too long  Agree about Thor Capn America & co and a lot of what you say, especially the odd pacing. The plot I suppose is in keeping with the comics and I liked the cast too, the actors were good, though I could go either way on the cartoon nazi scientist B-)

I mean, yeah, if we were doing a SUPERHERO FILM RANK it wouldn't be in my top 5 (Avengers, Thor, Thor 2, Captain America 2, Amazing Spiderman*), but it's still damn good entertainment.

* if I include X-men then they basically would have First Class and X2 in there instead of Thor and Amazing Spiderman

I think someone needs to do a super-hero film rank, cos there's also Batman, first Spiderman's, Wolverine, Green lantern, Hancock(well, I liked 'em if no one else did  )

Less mentionable, Superman, Supergirl, Catwoman, Fantastic Four, Hulk, though the animated Justice League's, Batman's, Superman's are fabbbouless B-)

Well if we're going that far then the original 2 Batman films are near unbeatable, not to mention Superman being pretty great too. Obv both went a little poor for #3 and then totally off the ball for #4. Though Superman MOVING THE MOON is rather amazing in its ridiculousness.

Superhero film rate - The Dark Knight = better than all the others put together.

On topic though.

Amazing Spiderman 2 was utterly underwhelming. More dreary will they, won't they, actually who cares nonsense. A hideously contrived hopeful ending tacked on after the film had run its natural course and Electro and the Goblin being both painfully underused.

Jamie Foxx though was good, so too Sally Field, as was the soundtrack. Nothing else to recommend it for.

Thoughts about ASM2 -

Ooh, a former Unknown Pleasures Entry was used in the soundtracks (Song For Zula by Phosphorescent)

Peter Parker seemed to have a decent music taste, given that he had posters for both DIIV and the xx in his bedroom. He also had a poster for The Ramones, but I doubt he could name more than 3 songs by them. (Yes I do realise that I just watched a film about a man who gets bitten by a radioactive spider and somehow gains the supernatural abilities of said arachnid, who fights a villain who can manipulate and merge with electricity after being continuously bitten by electric eels, and the one thing that I accept is the main character's taste in music).

Andrew Garfield seems too thin to be Spider-Man.

I didn't find it as good as the first movie, the main villain of the piece was Electro, with the Green Goblin getting less time on the big screen, I wish it was just The Green Goblin. Oh well that's 2 movies down 3 more to go apparently.

Looking forward to the new X Men movie that looks so good.

I watched this movie three days ago!! I was so enthusiastic at the end of it. I watched the first part two years ago and I really liked it but I think that “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” was much better than the first one. The production cost a whole fortune ($200.000.000). Marc Webb did an amazing job. He directed “(500) Days of Summer” too (One of my favourite movies ever!). He made an action movie with many romantic moments without insulting the personality of the superhero. The screenplay was very interesting and we realised that Peter Parker was mature in this film. The writers wanted to show us a human side of him in this part. The visual effects were fantastic! The sound editing was also great! The soundtrack has many good songs. When I listened to the beginning (instrumental) of “It's on Again” in the last scene, the movie became even more epic!! It had many action scenes and suspense!! The movie had many funny moments but I didn't like the end :( Andrew Garfield was suitable for the role and I feel that he is better than Tobey Maguire. Emma Roberts was likeable as Gwen Stacy and I prefer her than Kirsten Dunst. The latter seemed to be such a snob in some parts (Her facial expressions). At least, Emma Robers is a sweetie. It was one of the best adaptations of Spider-Man and it's my favourite superhero film in the last two years!! I'm looking forward to the next film and I hope it will be so great as this part. I highly recommend it.

Definitely preferred it over the first film but not in love with that ending at all!

Oh wow, this was SO much stronger than the first ASM, the first one was just half a re-used storyline about the origin of Spider-man and the second half was as at least a new villain but it didn't excite me massively really.

This cut out the origin stuff we'd seen before a couple times already, the numerous villains were interesting and Dane DeHaan put in a very good performance of the Green Goblin to make him exciting again even though we've seen him a lot of times before. The Gwen

death scene

was actually emotional, I think it's just because she was so likeable and I just wished her the best with Oxford and that so I felt bad for her more than I did Peter

Shame we won't see Andrew (and Emma) in their roles again but I'm excited to see what Marvel have up their sleeve, hopefully they introduce him as soon as possible after Civil War (unless he's in that too?). It's a shame we won't get sequels to this too because it'd be nice to see more of Dane's portrayal of Green Goblin and even Rhino if he popped up again.
