Posted April 24, 201411 yr It's been discussed here a fair bit but I wanted to know what the majority thought. Radio 1 rarely get back on board once they've snubbed a single of a certain artist - particularly with pop acts, which they all know they did with 'Not Giving Up'. But they've supported The Saturdays for 7 years now, through their highs and through some arguably dodgy singles. And still play 'Disco Love' and 'What About Us' on the regular. Yes or No, what do you think? (I don't know why it says I've already voted when I haven't yet) Edited April 24, 201411 yr by Joe‽assmore
April 24, 201411 yr I think they will - it's not the first time they've snubbed an artist's 5th single from one album, they snubbed P!nk's Are We All We Are? and I don't think they'll continue to snub her after that.
April 24, 201411 yr I'm very confident they won't snub them again. There could be any number of reasons as to why this particular single was snubbed. The album flopped, therefor the potential for the 5th single to flop was very high in which case it would make more sense to support and act that had the potential to do very well. They could have known about the promotion for this particular single which would have led them to believe that this single was gonna flop, therefor they would have supported another artist that could have done well with another single. and there could be other reasons but infant think of what they would be.
April 24, 201411 yr Maybe it's just wishful thinking but I think Radio 1 will playlist it. It'll depend on a lot of different factors. I think if the hype is there and the song is good then it can at least achieve B List.
April 25, 201411 yr I don't really know but I'm leaning towards 'no' now. Boybands and girlbands are not the types of artists for whom Radio 1 makes a u-turn. But it will depend on the song too, and we'll see.
April 25, 201411 yr Is it possible that radio Shy'd away from this in knowing that a Greatest hits was round the corner? maybe they didn't want NGU overshadowing the lead single from the GH!
April 25, 201411 yr ^ I don't think it is. Not even completely sure GH had been in the making before everyone realised NGU would flop.
April 25, 201411 yr I reckon it'd probably been on the cards since the end of Disco Love, shortly before Christmas?
April 25, 201411 yr I voted no due to Disco Love and Gentleman only going to the B-list and they snubbed JLS for their final ever single when they'd been pretty supportive of them in the past.
April 27, 201411 yr It's a tough one. Radio 1 are still playing 'Disco Love' and 'What About Us'. It's a great shame that 'Gentlemen' killed their airplay. I'm sure 'Disco Love' could have went top 3 had it been A-Listed. I remember had they released the previous week they would have been #01 on iTunes as there were no new releases.
April 30, 201411 yr I don't think they will, once Radio 1 snub a single it normally means that they've dumped the act completely and won't support them again (I've been following the playlist since 2001 and only seen a few flukes/exceptions to that rule). Stranger things have happened though...
May 1, 201411 yr Author If Radio 1 doesnt support them ever again does that mean they are screwed? The single won't sell and I don't think they would bother with another studio album. But I still think the Greatest Hits album will still sell okay, regardless, with some decent promo and an advert or two, though. Edited May 1, 201411 yr by Joe‽assmore
May 1, 201411 yr They could easily do well with just Capital support (and by that I mean heavy rotation on there) I believe but with Capital being so touch and go with them, Radio 1 support is crucial.
May 1, 201411 yr If Radio 1 doesnt support them ever again does that mean they are screwed? I think with this GH that's pretty much it for them now. Although if they got it right, the GH could be quite a reasonable seller for them but I imagine their label will just screw it up as usual and that'll be the last we hear of them. Hopefully they can get one more top 10 single at least though, even without Radio 1's support.
May 1, 201411 yr I voted yes but I think it will come down to the song and it will have to be in their top 5 songs yet to get the radio support they'll need. I also wonder if 3 girl groups is too much for Radio 1 now, have they supported Neon Jungles previous three singles?
May 1, 201411 yr if the new single is a cover (as part of this First Choice promo thing) it wont get played
