BILLBOARD: EXO-K's 'Overdose' EP Enters Billboard 200

Billboard (May 15th 2014):

The boy band earns the highest-charting release for male Korean acts and is third K-pop act to hit the albums chart this year

"American fans were ready to "Overdose" on the two new EPs from K-pop boy band EXO. "The 2nd Mini Album 'Overdose'" was released in both a Korean and Chinese version by EXO subgroups EXO-K and EXO-M, respectively, and both proved addictive to U.S. audiences.

EXO-K's version of the five-track EP flies into the Billboard 200 at No. 129. The South Korea-focused outfit sold 3,000 copies of their all-Korean set, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The EP also debuts at No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart and No. 2 on the World Albums.

The China-focused subgroup EXO-M misses the Billboard 200, but the sextet's all-Mandarin rendition of the "Overdose" EP hits No. 8 on Billboard's Heatseekers Album chart and lands at No. 5 on the World Albums chart."

Well what a shame considering their lead single is nowhere near as good as their previous comeback attempt, AND the ongoing controversy with one of their members at the moment.

Expand on the controversy? :drama:

Never heard of these guys, so surprised to see them charting. And outcharting Girls' Generation if I remember correctly?

The controversy arouse in that one of the leader of half of the sub-units "EXO-M (Mandarin)" is filing a lawsuit to cancel the contract which binds him and the record company, SM Entertainment together. He citied the violation of human rights or something along the lines of that for the reason and the company is not prioritising its artist's health. It's not a shock considering in the past, two of the biggest K-Pop boy groups, TVXQ & Super Junior, also had the same controversy with 3 members leaving TVXQ forming their own group, JYJ, and Chinese member "Hangeng" of Super Junior leaving the group entirely.

SM Entertainment is the record company who has artists such as Girls' Generation, Super Junior, TVXQ, f(x) and EXO at present.

Not a surprise really.
