"Married with Children" – 3:12 Yes it's another Brit Pop album but I thought with the re-release of the album looking like it could re-enter the Top 5 and the recent flurry of reunion rumours on Twitter, it was a good time to reassess this album. I had a listen to this in the car this morning and I was blown away by how good most of it still sounds. I must admit to not listening to it for quite a while, but Rock 'n Roll Star still blasts its way out of the speakers and basically sets out the stall for the whole of their career. This album must be ingrained in my marrow because I knew just about all the lyrics and was heartily singing along all the way to work. All the hits were soon speeding by and I was loving the album tracks just as much. Highlights today were Columbia, Cloudburst (I have the Japanese version) and Bring It On Down. The JP version also has Sad Song on it as well. So did this album ever do it for you or were they just the most boorish representation of the Loaded generation. Rex2pChXRck
May 20, 201411 yr Too young to remember it when it was new, grew up only being vaguely aware of the singles despite Morning Glory (which I still consider the better album, even though it doesn't have the same initial impact) being inescapable in our house when I was little. Got into the whole album not long after Stop the Clocks came out (one of my favourite GH sets) and it still blew me away. Rock 'n' Roll Star is the perfect introduction, Supersonic has the perfect riff and Live Forever is just perfect.
May 21, 201411 yr I really liked it when it came out - I was 17 and had been seduced good and proper by what was not necessarily any different from the likes of Teenage Fanclub and other Creation acts, but was more immediate and had real characters at the fore. It seemed to be around forever though, as more and more people picked up on them...even when 'Whatever' and 'Some Might Say' were riding high in the charts and, by the time, the second album had plodded in, the magic was somewhat gone and we had another year of latecomers playing them incessantly. By the time the third LP came out, they were completely uninteresting. I'd still listen to most of it...the ones that are pure wall of sound - Rock 'n' Roll Star, Supersonic, Shakermaker, Columbia, Bring it on Down - especially but I wouldn't thank anyone playing Digsy's Dinner, Live Forever or Married with Children.
May 21, 201411 yr I think the first time I heard Oasis was when they played Supersonic on The Word. They seemed alright but I wasn't blown away. Shakermaker came next and I thought it was a pretty obvious rip off of I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing and I thought they were overrated. Live Forever pricked my interest as it was their first really decent single and then you couldn't escape them. But it was Rock N Roll Star and the T.Rex stealing Cigarettes And Alcohol that finally won me over. There was a surge of energy in both those tracks that just grabbed you when they came on. They've never been my favourite band and I still think they were always overrated but DM is a great album in all. Sadly it was downhill all the way and by 2000 they were painful to listen to.
