Chart review for 1st June

IDINA STORMS ANOTHER WEEKEND AT #1 IN ONE OF THE WEAKEST WEEKENDS THIS YEARS

TOP 5

It looked like this could finally be the weekend that Idina Menzel would finally start to fall with let it go but Jodi Bird's performance on BGT gave it a massive boost through midweek and the end of the week. (I know this sale will sound crazy but this is only the 5th song ever in my charts to sell anywhere near 3.5M). Let It Go passed 7M this weekend after a 170,000 weekend. Let the storm rage on.

Paloma Faith scored her sixth top 5 hit with Only Love Can Hurt Like This climbing 5 places to 2nd. One of the most consistent performers on this chart ever since stone cold sober hit #1, Paloma looks to be heading for another massive song.

Possibly the biggest slow burner ever, Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX climbed another place to reach a new peak of #3 with the song with the clueless themed video. After originally flopping on its debut, this has surprised and shocked in every way possible.

Lana Del Rey's massive hit West Coast slid two places to #4 this week with a million copies looking likely to happen in the next 2 to 3 weeks. Rita Ora's I Will Never Let You Down jumped up 1 to 5 this week and was the biggest climber on the YTD chart which will be revealed at the end of June.

HIGH CLIMBERS AND NEW ENTRIES

Many songs climbed this week with 1 even reaching a new peak. Kristen Bell kept going with for the first time in forever (up 3 to 6), Lily Allen also bounced back up (11 to 7) and Foxes reached a new peak of #8 with Holding Onto Heaven.

Despite there being 4 new entries and a Re-entry on this weeks chart, Janet Devlin's House Of Cards was the only one that managed a top 10 place. And it only just managed that but that is a good debut for a song that had no buzz last week. After failing to chart last week, Stay With Me by Sam Smith entered in 11 followed by little mix with Salute in #12. The latter song seems to be the only new entry not plummeting this weekend. Taylor Swift re-entered in #14 with smash hit and +2Million seller I Knew You Were Trouble after increased airplay. Katy Perry had another song flop with birthday opening in a poor #19. However this is better than dark horse (#21) but way off Roar (#2 but was still a poor performer for a Katy perry song).

BIG FALLERS

This week saw 3 big fallers for 2 eurovision songs and a former number 1. Molly tumbled a massive 10 places with children of the universe to #13 while the runner-up in the actual competition- The Common Linnets- fell 8 to 16. Lastly let me down gently which was a former number 1 for la roux just 2 weeks ago plummeted 15 places this week to 20.

NEXT WEEK

While this week might be one of the weakest charts of the month, next week could be one of the biggest in the last few years with 5 new entries sent to go top 10.

Leading the way is the early release for Ghost- Ella Henderson becoming the only the 2nd release of this year to get released properly at an earlier date. Expectations are massive and she seems to be heading for a massive first week of 230-250K. And this is with minimal airplay as it is not on spotify.

Kasabian's lead single from 48:13- ez-eeh- and Idina Menzel's you learn to live without are both on course for top 3 debuts. Idina will battle Ed Sheeran for 4th with Let It Go v Sing and shades of cool by Lana del Rey will hit the higher end of 6-10 at the moment.

A fantastic week up ahead
