wow that dotan song is no1 on NL iTunes yet only makes #30 in their chart ~ glimpse of the future for the uk singles chart???

Edited by ETH▲N

Our chart is combined with Airplay from 4 radio stations, some research on what people like and streaming

probably the dumbest and weirdest chart formule around, which is why I hardly ever pay attention tot ourr charts

Hoe are you gonna exclude sales completely because some Dutch artists buy their own songs on ITunes....

Those "artists" never made the chart anyway

(also they use data from 2 weeks for some reason)

no iTunes sales at all?

no iTunes sales at all?

Nope, they excluded that after a show revealing artists buying their own songs aired.

A terrible decision as those artists were already filtered out of the top 40

Hmm, expand a little on that? Are sales so low in The Netherlands that artists buying their own stuff matters?

And what's "research into what people like"?

because some Dutch artists buy their own songs on ITunes....

In my opinion it's miles better, than the combined shit of streaming / airplay / Youtube views.

Well as you said single sales are pretty low.

There's certain artists that rise on Itunes everytime at around the same time and then tumble down the Itunes chart again. When looking at kworb these artists (mostly Dutch artists that need to get bookings for festivals to come around) these artists rise and fall unnaturally.

The show I was talking about exposed these artists without name and shaming. They exposed they way it works, contacted someone specialised in buying these songs and he could tell them how much you needed to buy to reach #1 or #20 or whatever you needed in the single top 100.

Due to this the Dutch Top 40 head over heels decided to exclude Itunes from their formula as otherwise it would damage their (not too great) reputation.

They were always going to include streaming, but excluding Itunes was never part of the plan.

There's even an example of shameless selfbuying. There's a woman called BYentl, who is ignored by radio and literally gets 0 attention from the GP.

Yet somehow she somehow has numerous top 10 hits to her name.

And what's "research into what people like"?

I had to google this as I wasn't quite sure what it was either

The top 40 included Continu Muziek Onderzoek (CMO) aka the reasearch I was speaking off in 2008. This research is done by some company caled De Vos en Jansen and researches the musical taste of a "Muziekpanel" aka 500 human beings that change every week, representive of the Dutch people.

Happy to see 'Hideaway' taking off across the world now, for a time I did wonder if she would be a weird Alyssa Reid type of act who only ever impacted in the UK

Do you have the album chart, Thermo?

The top 100 can be found here. Lana is the highest new entry at #5. Jennifer Lopez is new at #39 (#ooops)

#5 for Lana is poor :( Born To Die was a #2 and the YE #33 in 2012, so this is already a comedown.

Official Dutch Top 40 28/06/2014

Hope I don't step on anyones toes doing this

- Ariana and Iggy reach a new peak a #8

- Tove Lo goes #1

- Pitbull and Friends is the biggest riser from 35 to 11

- Sam Smith rises to #16

- Jason Derülo rises to #14

Maps by Maroon 5 is this weeks "Alarmschijf and most likely the highest entry next week.

Other songs that are likely to enter: Fancy (despite the radio snub).

'Ta fete' has already peaked higher than it did in France (it reached #30 there). Don't really have any idea why that is but congrats to him, it annoys me how the era ground to a halt in France.

What's radio's problem with Iggy?

It's "too urban"

Radio usually ignores obvious "urban" hits for a while, until they start smashing by themselves.

Most recent examples are Lil' Waynes Mirrors and Nicki's Starships.

Both got minimal support from 1 or 2 radio stations, which made them rise up the Itunes chart. But once they went top 10/5 on Itunes all over sudden radio's started supporting them. While pop songs get support way easier if they smash in other countries

What's radio's problem with Iggy?

Not really sure but I'm not complaining (horrible, horrible song).

I think it's weird because radio is supposed to be a reflection of what's popular. And apparently 'Fancy' gets streamed a lot but radios are still refusing it.
