Posted June 7, 201411 yr http://appletoncreative.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/tv-music-670x386.jpg Well, seeing as it is now the TV down season and I am an AVID FAN of both TV and TV music I felt now was the time for an informal thread of my providing some excellent examples of the ARTFORM. It's not going to be a countdown or a list with any numerical listings or anything like that as it's a bit too difficult to rank/compare, but expect a lot of STRINGS, dramatic 80's theme tunes and possibly multiple appearances from a certain franchise along the way. I hope I can remind some of you of some great music (and great shows) you already know and love or bring some to the attention of others too. I'm going to use the OP to link to all the shows I discuss throughout the thread, so for now it shall be blank, but soon it shall be a portal to untold musical joys.

Sadly very little of the music from the show has made it onto youtube thanks to there only being one Soundtrack released midway through S1, which itself was essentially just re-purposed music from the movie. The above, however, are both excellent examples of the type of music throughout the show. Dramatic. Sci-fi is a genre often associated with having excellent scores and musical direction and the various Stargate incarnations are no exception, more on the others later though. SG-1 did what Star Trek had done before and reused the beloved theme from the movie as the theme for the TV show. It's among my very favourite themes ever, it always conveys to me a sense of complete wonder and discovery, something which the show itself was about for much of the first few seasons. It's also just a damned great piece of music too, of course. The second video is from the penultimate season of the show and showcases the cliffhanger at the end of S9 and the heightened emotional stakes that went along with the season in general are conveyed very well by the final 30 seconds. The strong Ori motif used as they engage in battle is also one I'm very fond of, though sadly it was only ever played in the background so no better quality audio is available.
