Posted June 9, 201411 yr Thought I'd start a thread for this year as there was discussion in last year's about the French Open which finished yesterday (hopefully those posters aren't the only ones who care or that's all they have to say about it and this thread dies instantly !). Wimbledon's coming up anyway which should generate further interest ^_^. I was happy to see Sharapova win on Saturday. I've always been a fan since her incredible win over Serena at Wimbledon 2004 (I still can't get over how a 17 year old can win a Grand Slam but what's often overlooked is that Serena was only 22 at the time and was seen as a veteran already with six Grand Slams under her designer belt. Crazy!). Anyway, Halep played like a champ and was much more consistent than Sharapova so I really think the women's game could finally have a new star who could have sustained success with her (along with Bouchard ). Much as I like her, Sharapova was ridiculous with the amount of time she took between first and second serves - there really needs to be a rule brought in about that because it was unsporting at times. Great to see her finally win the same Slam for a second time nonetheless. The Men's was another great final. Nadal is just unstoppable on clay. Couldn't believe some of the defensive shots he was managing to turn into winners. I like him so I was happy to see him get a ninth French victory - I hope he manages to beat Federer's total Slam count of 17 (+) one day. Overall, would have preferred Djokovic to have won for the first time in Paris though. Looking forward to Wimbledon and hope Andy can do it again.
June 9, 201411 yr Both James Ward and Dan Evans (plaster nipples) have made it through the first round at Queens.
June 10, 201411 yr Different contrast today for James Ward and Dan Evans they both lost in straight sets in the second round at Queen's.
June 10, 201411 yr Heather Watson also lost in the first round of the Aegon Classic, but Johanna Konta is through to the next round.
June 10, 201411 yr I am so sick of Nadal's overachieving :drama: Imo he didn't even play particularly well in the final on Sunday -- Djokovic would've won if he'd played as well as he did to beat Nadal twice earlier this year, but he seems to have become a choker in big matches. I'm hoping Federer can win Wimbledon this year, since obviously window is close to shutting and this is probably the only Grand Slam where he still has a realistic chance.
