i have literally not had a moment to vote let alone listen to over 50 songs would the mods have preferred i voted on the basis of who im friendly with here or even a random draw as that would have been how my votes would have been.

my not voting had no impact on things as it would have been both semis?!

how exactly do you punish an aq song? also i never asked to aq either?

Not exactly true. You could've changed who qualifies in either/both semis

I don't not have any sympathy for you when saying this, as I can imagine even if you did get the slightest bit of time, BJSC wouldn't be a priority. But, if you knew you wouldn't have much time beforehand (I do emphasise the 'if' as I obviously don't know the circumstances), then the counter-argument is that you probably shouldn't have entered.

I have no doubt you have feasible excuses, but it is in the rules that people who don't vote get deductions, so really, whatever the excuse is, the mods will have to punish you in some way, just for the sake of following rules and fairness.

for one rob, i am not looking for anyone's sympathy. nor pity or anything along those lines. secondly when i say i have had no time; i've had no time to listen to over 50 songs. it was very much an all or nothing situation no? i could hardly just vote in one semi. when i entered i wasn't expecting to have to listen to 50+ songs. should i enter on that assumption every month? do you? i had no option over whether to be in one semi or both.

and if the rules are the rules then why is my PUNISHMENT being discussed, if the rule stands then so surely should the punishment? or is it all being made up as it goes along. jakewild managed to use the flimsy excuse of having no computer and therefore scored no deduction when he failed to vote (how did he even enter in the first place / continue posting if this were the case?)

and pavel: would you have just preferred me to vote on the basis of names as opposed to songs because that way i would have no PUNISHMENT and everything would be fine. that's the only way things could have been easy.

This is partly my fault, another gooddelta hosting fail I'm afraid! :drama: I didn't PM Jake beforehand to ask if he wanted to autoqualify (sorry about that, I didn't realise that was in the rules - I thought that it was compulsory for the runner-up to AQ if there's an even number of entrants, short of forfeiting my own AQ, which I didn't want to do.)

For what it's worth going forward, perhaps in a situation with two AQ's, they could be assigned one semi each to vote in rather than having to vote in both. Personally I find it a perk rather than an issue to vote in both semis and help out my favourites from both but I can definitely see the counter argument. 50+ new songs is a lot to listen to in a few days if you don't have chance to listen to much music. I'm lucky that in my job I can listen to music all day when I'm not on the phone so it wasn't an issue for me.

(JakeWild did get a deduction that month to be fair, he just scored enough points to safely qualify anyway)
Wait, when did JakeyW not have a deduction for not voting? :o I was always sure that if the mods felt MERCIFUL they'd ignore the ban for the next contest rule but the 33% deduction would still be in place :o I mean it's the most logical and fair thing for the actual results as well.

Well, I guess it does change things really if Jake had no idea he was supposed to listening to two semis until the actual semi thread was opened. This is in no way me saying Rich is to blame for the record, but I was actually reading the rules after I saw Jake hadn't voted the other day to see what is written, and there isn't really anything to indicate to 'newbies' that they have to vote in both semis, nor would Jake have known he was going to AQ when he sent an entry, given he came in 2nd place. So it's not quite as black and white as 'no vote, deduction in place'.

I do see why the mods would want to try and stay consistent (maybe?) by inforcing a deduction, it is a difficult scenario to gauge.

Thinking about it, IN MY OPINION, even though there was a possibility of Jake's votes changing the outcome, there were no negative consequences of non voting. If he had a song in the semifinal then by all means but for an AQ it's a different story.

IN MY OPINION I'd rather mods SETTLED than took this bitch to court coz honourable judge LESSNER will be the judge, duh, and the jury will consist of iLoons~

Apols, I didn't realise the AQ thing had to be sorted via PM. I'd mentioned in one of the threads that it would be FSR Rontvia and FARC AQ'ing so I figured that would be enough.

Confirmation is closed. Greenfroze confirmed so we have 56 entries which will be split into two semis of 27 songs with AQ's for FSR Rontvia and FARC.

Granted Jake might not have seen those threads until the Semis opened though so I should have PM'd him to confirm after I wrote that post, my fault! Incidentally, what would have happened after Jake said no to the AQ, would it have been passed down to Syndare?

It seems like oh an internet music contest how fun lol but in reality... oops a load of rules, controversy, arguements, precedents that take place in... what... 7th year of the contest? :D

I agree with this, especially when it wasn't as if he voted in one semi and not in the other. I think if that situation had occured, something should happen but as he voted in neither and there are no negative consequences, I personally don't think anything should happen.

Yeah I think there is ambiguity in the rules regarding this so on this occasion I'd say no punishment. But prior to the next contest I think we need a couple of guidelines regarding what happens if the 2nd place doesn't want to automatically qualify and what happens if one of the automatically qualified countries do not vote in the semi-finals.

Thinking back I do remember PM'ing one of the mods to check if we both had to vote in both semis or were assigned to one each but obviously then I didn't pass on the answer to Jake so he wouldn't have known until the Semis opened.

I guess I'd just never heard of anyone turning down an AQ before but wasn't there a host that gave up their rights before thinking back, or was that in a spin-off?

Even in this seemingly dull and pedestrian gooddelta hosted contest we've had scandals with this AQ thing, Random.org's semi draws, the fact that I put the MP3 packs on Sendspace rather than Zippyshare, the lack of recaps and the tagging of the MP3's with the country names. Not to mention the 'Reservoir' and 'NDNTN' spelling mistakes!

'Spread online kindness' indeed :P I challenge anybody to host this contest and get through it completely unscathed!

Wait, when did JakeyW not have a deduction for not voting? :o

Never ~ (no one else has ever got away with it either AFAIA, but the situation with an autoqualifier not voting in the semi-final hasn't ever happened before so I can understand the mods not knowing what to do in this case). I mean the punishment for not voting in the semis is just a 33% deduction from the semi score of your song, absolutely nothing in the rules for what happens if an AQ doesn't vote and there's never needed to be a rule for that until now.

I think I did alright! Apart from Pavel being a moany bitch about the mp3 file names for reasons I still don't quite understand. And the Major Lazer thing (which was Yu's fault anyway)

I'll be flawless next time I host ^_^ Oh wait.

Yours was a joint effort though so you could share any criticism :o I've got my Pavel defence shield up at all times!

I guess it's part of the fun really! I think if I won, I'd pass the MP3 task onto someone else, as I wouldn't have the first idea how to set them up. I barely even use iTunes anymore, I just listen to Spotify and Youtube!
